    MA Graduates!
    April R.

DISCLAIMER- LENGTHY REVIEW LOL: I just recently graduated from the Medical Assisting program and it is bittersweet! I am super excited for my future but also super sad to be finished with school. The program was about 4.5 months and time went by so surprisingly quick but I have gained so much knowledge in that short period of time. From the beginning, I researched pretty extensively for esthetics schools around the area and came across ISBA. It seemed to be extremely detailed in what it had to offer so I scheduled an in-person interview with Dr. Doran. I brought my husband along with my two year old toddler and she was so welcoming and passionate in what she had to explain to me. I'm already a licensed cosmetologist so she took the time to ask me herself what my future endeavors are such as my goals, career, what I planned on getting out of the esthetics program. (I told her I enjoy doing hair, but skincare interests me and I might want to work in a medspa, etc later on) Instead of pushing me forward and just letting me apply/enroll in the program, she explained why it wouldn't benefit me as much considering that I was already licensed in cosmetology and if I still planned on staying in the hair industry. It would basically be like getting licensed for something I'm already qualified to do. She then explained about their MA program if medspa is what I'm leaning towards because being a certified MA would improve my current qualifications/resume whereas just being another licensed esthetician would be the same as I am now if that makes sense. The fact that she took the time to talk me out of their more expensive program and into another program to benefit me personally was enough for me to already want to enroll. It shows how much she cares for people individually and cares for everyone's success/future. Also, the fact that their class sizes are so small (my class only had 7 people) shows that she takes pride in who enrolls because she talks to them and makes sure the program is the correct fit for both the student and her. I truly appreciate and respect that. As for the MA program teacher, Ms. Helen; she is amazing. She is honest, fun & funny, caring and most importantly, patient. She teaches in the perfect pace where it isn't too slow nor too fast. If someone is having difficulty grasping a lesson/concept, she takes the time to pause and makes sure that student understands before moving forward without making it seem degrading or embarrassing. Our class asks ALOT of questions, most of the time confusing questions lol, and she makes sure she answers all of them til we understand and goes into depth with it. If she is unsure herself, she takes the time to research until there is a solid/clear answer. She provided us with her own handwritten flash cards & study games to help us prepare for our NHA exam. I had a little bit of prior education in the medical field from being in the military.. but there were a lot of topics where I was unable to retain the information after all these years. But going over those same topics with Ms. Helen, I am able to remember them and retain them easily because she teaches in a way where you're not just remembering terms/concepts, you're actually understanding why/what/etc. I am super appreciative of her and I'm so proud and glad I was apart of this program. I have a few friends/family who were apart of other MA programs that were a year long and after speaking with them, they didn't learn or go over a lot of the same material we had gone over nor had the same great learning experience. So I'm definitely pleased that I chose to go with this school because it was so worth it! Thank you ISBA!

I worked for Motorola as a Sr Quality Engineer for 17 years & recently moved on. In the…read moreQuality field, I wore many hats as I played many roles which included statistical analysis, writing training materials & technical manuals, process improvement, coordinating global teams & presenting to all levels of management. I already had multiple years of experience with front end tools to perform & communicate these functions. As I researched current positions related to my field, I saw a new trend emerging within the leading edge corporations who were seeking skilled technical help with a communications portfolio in Adobe Creative Suite tools, especially Photoshop, Dreamweaver & In Design. I researched all local schools who offered Adobe Web Design / Graphic Arts classes to choose an education program best suited for my next career step. I quickly eliminated the local Jr Colleges as the necessary Web Development enhancement to my career path, because their curriculum to achieve this goal took two to two & one half years along with the distraction of many other unnecessary classes. This is my 3rd time through school to upgrade my skill set. Meanwhile, I analyzed that Computer Training Source (CTS) would provide a comparable computer training education in one year. I am now in my ninth month at CTS and I am not disappointed with my choice. As an adult student, who knew virtually nothing concerning Adobe Creative Suite, Web Design & Electronic Graphic Arts & who is graphically challenged, I wake up excited to attend CTS classes and then in my commute home, I am amazed how much I learned in class that day as I know it will advance me to my career purpose and goal. I love CTS's accelerated Web Design education strategy as I am taking multiple classes in parallel to each other. This offers me the advantage of seeing & understanding how all the Creative Suite Tools work & fit together. I prefer this approach to the Jr College computer training path which moves the student sequentially through the CS tools semester after semester. In addition, CTS offers free retakes on all their classes which reinforces & solidifies the CS tools & techniques & concepts in my memory. Besides, the 2nd time around, I have a better instinct of what questions to ask to fill in the gaps in my thinking. The CTS instructors are passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable; who have many years of experience working in their specific fields of expertise. The teachers help fuel my interest to grow in my motivation to understand and build professional websites. When I need special attention, the staff are cooperative & flexible to work with me as they assist me to move forward in my career education path. I am absolutely satisfied that I chose CTS above all other Computer Training education options available to me. I hope to see you sitting beside me in a CTS class in the near future.

They send you a book for whichever class you are taking. You can even retake your classes. And depending on the teacher, the classes are recorded so you can re-watch them. I just wish it was not to the instructor's discretion to record. I wish all the classes could be recorded. However, most of my classes were able to be recorded. CTS is also WIOA verified, which helps with funding for classes if you are able to get unemployment insurance.

The gentleman in charge, Paul, is a very nice man and can help you put together a plan over the course of several months that will add some very helpful certifications/knowledge areas to your resume. He's also a great instructor. I had him for SQL, and he was awesome. Some of the instructors are absolutely fantastic. They have both the subject knowledge in addition to real life experience. Some other instructors...not so great. I was unfortunate enough to have a particular instructor for 2 classes. He was horrible. His English was really bad. For example, the word "glove" was written on his slide as "glows"...and he totally believed that was the correct word. He also taught the class from the perspective that we were all on the level of recent college grads, and knew nothing. He'd tell us how to dress for work, and show us videos on how you have to behave in an office. Looking around, I'd guess the average age of the class was around 45. If these people don't know how to dress or behave in an office, perhaps there's a good reason why they are unemployed. I, however, do know all of these things and don't need to have my time wasted with it. Another down side is that the class schedules do tend to fluctuate, probably to accommodate students and teachers alike. For most unemployed people it's not a big deal, but I am a caretaker and work part-time, so it was very hard for me to rearrange schedules at the last minute. Sometimes I simply could not attend class due to last minute changes.
