We moved out of the area a while ago and but still drive the distance to continue at this studio. My son (14) and daughter (9) will not even consider going anywhere else. They love it here. The new owner is one of the kindest people I have met. All the teachers have a true love for dance, and it shows in their teaching. This studio focuses on proper technique to avoid injury and create beautiful dancers. The spring recital is the cherry on top. Instead of watching a million individual dances by class level, NWBA puts on an actual ballet. The costumes, sets and lighting is top notch. My kids love feeling part of a show and dancing with other levels. They get a taste of what a professional ballet dancer gets to do. For family and friends in the audience following a ballet story is way more enjoyable than a traditional recital.

NWBA is a family run, caring studio where teachers and students support and encourage thoughtful development and solid ballet technique. My family has been dancing with NWBA since the doors opened in 1985 when I started my ballet journey, I've recommended friends, and now my daughter studies at NWBA from an early age. Of course their children/young adult programs are great, but they also have fantastic Adult Ballet classes where the teachers will actually teach and support you at whatever level you desire. I highly recommend this 5+ star dance studio!

With about six months to go until my wedding, one of the biggest things I was worried about was the…read morefirst dance. I not only had no clue how to dance, I am a pretty big klutz! My wife-to-be had little experience with formal dancing as well, so I knew we needed some teaching. I looked around the Internet with the desire to have more personal lessons versus a studio setting. We were so glad to find Michael. We took five lessons with him in preparation of our first dance. He put us at ease, was clear in what he was teaching, honest with criticisms (but nice about it!), and when we weren't dancing just a really down-to-earth, funny guy. We always looked forward to our lessons. He was also so easy to communicate with about setting times for our lessons. I got them as a gift for Valentine's Day and he even created custom 'coupons' I could give to my wife. When the big day came, we were confident and ready for our dance. We got a lot of compliments on our skills (all my family and friends who know me well were pretty surprised). We learned so much! Now whenever we're out at a bar or something we get on the dance floor and actually seem to know what we're doing. What a change! Thank you Michael.

My now husband and I were looking for help with our first dance and wanted to feel confident on our wedding day. Michael made us feel comfortable for the big day and taught us steps that would work for any slow dance. My dad even came to a lesson and Michael helped us with our father daughter dance! Michael was very patient, knowledgeable about his craft, and down to earth. On our wedding day both dances were beautiful:) We truly enjoyed our lessons with Michael before our big day and would highly recommend him!

I initially wanted to sign up for an aerial yoga class, but was prompted to take a "beginner" pole…read moreclass instead because it started sooner. It turned out the class was a Beginner II rather than an intro, and the instructor was more of a demonstrator than a teacher. Despite struggling, I still enjoyed the class enough to sign up for a second session. That session was oversold, as the only pole available had a huge floor flaw that was TAPED over. Over the course of the class, the tape and adhesive became tackier and eventually ruined the shoes I was wearing for the first time. This resulted in my shoes literally sticking to the floor, so I couldn't complete a move and ended up painfully smashing my knees against the edge of the pole base, resulting in bruises on both. Despite being oversold and unsafe, the studio refuses to refund my session fee. I had two credits from signing up for the first session, and I asked for a refund after the 2nd class of the 2nd session. I should have my entire fee refunded, but they took two weeks to write me back and let me know that because the semi-present instructor didn't know I was in pain, they are going to KEEP MY MONEY?!?! The instructor saw me trying to remove the tape and goo from my shoes, but they are literally going to try to weasel out of being accountable with this. They should refund me for my session, replace my shoes, and acknowledge that their studio is UNSAFE, their classes are oversold, and their practices are shady. Really disgusted by the entire experience, it's a shameful way to run a business, and the lack of concern and support is negligent and irresponsible.

I went to watch Les Miserables by Schaumburg On Stage as I'd recently missed the national tour in…read moredowntown Chicago. Realizing that Drury Lane and Paramount had done their version a few years back and Marriott Theatre had done it a bit before that, I wanted to watch a live version in case I can't make the next big stop in Milwaukee. I watch quite a bit of theatre, both professional and amateur. Not sure why, but until this show -- I wasn't aware of Schaumburg on Stage which has been around since 2016. To my surprise, the quality of the production was similar in quality to other highly acclaimed groups like the District 214 all-district group (which recently did The Wedding Singer). Here were my thoughts on various aspects of the show: Staging: It really surprised me how many sets were used in the show and how they were fully functional. They were designed and painted well and items were hardly reused. They also did a very good job of quickly changing sets to make sure the showtime was kept to a reasonable length. Vocals: Two things I like about this. One is how they kept the complex harmonies -- which worked great in group songs. The overall balance lacked baritone and bass voices, but that's expected with younger actors. I also liked how they did not shy away from the challenge of the very high notes for male or female leads. They could have easily changed the key, but it's great to see them embrace the challenge. Orchestra: A bit smaller, not sure if it's due to space limitations or that's the way the school version is written. A bit more reliant on piano and common woodwind/string instruments than the full version. I did like how they played at a level not to overpower the vocals. Lighting and fog: I liked all the varieties of lights used. Not just in general stage lighting from the top, but also from lights on the side and spotlights. There were quite a bit of variations on lighting, which helped to tell the story. I did not like the excessive use of stage fog though, which tended to linger for more than a single scene. Overall, a great group to watch a show from. It's much better than the typical amateur group and prices are very reasonable. It's also great how they incorporate actors and actresses from all different ages and help them to build interest in theatre. Based on the quality of this performance, I can't wait to watch another show when they get a new digital microphone system.

The quaint theater doesn't really have a "bad" seat in the house! They have programming that spans improv, musicals, classic plays, children's theatre, educational concerts, a capella, etc. They also have a performing arts school in which my daughter has taken classes and summer camps at. One star off because I wish they would do more accessible tickets e.g. rush tickets or lotteries. One of shows of the children from the school of the performing arts was, like, $20/person. Also, the Play that Goes Wrong was $50. I can see a Broadway in Chicago show for that price if you go about it utilizing the proper channels. I do not utilize the bar during shows, but they sell snacks, which are not allowed in the theater, and drinks, which are allowed in the theater.

Parking was in an issue the place is small their stairs but there's also an elevator which I like the fact that it is small because it's more intimate that way and the comedian can actually interact with the audience. We didn't really try the food but there is a two drink minimum or an order of food so we just did two drinks it's a bit pricey so just need to expect that. The service was great the our server was always there checking up on us and asking what we needed so that's also a good thing. Will definitely come back and see more shows here. Happy watching!
