Hooray!! Thanks to MaZi, I've lost 17 lbs so far :p…read more I started going to MaZi Dance in April this year, so it's been almost 3 months... from two-three classes a week till six classes a week, you can tell how much I love this place. Having a wedding coming up (oh well... still 8 months to go), I decided to lose all the weight I gained during dating my fiancé ;) I started working out in Feb this year and originally just played with elliptical in my building - since I am paying assessment, why should I pay extra for gym? Of course, I got bored... at the same time, a friend of mine started going to MaZi, and that's when I fell in love with this place. Most importantly, Z-Cardio instructors - Karen, Nickie, Siobhan and others are all super energetic and enthusiastic! As each class approaching its end, I become all sweaty and start to wear the "you-owe-me-a-million-dollar" face, but the instructors are still smiling and cheering people up! Guess that's why I can never be a good instructor lol About a month ago, I started their Ballet classes :) Experience with Liz and Marisol has been perfect as well. Why I don't go to other BBB classes? Because I don't own a mat XD but I'm thinking about getting one.

As a dance noob, I thought that I'd try to dive head first into a dance fitness class. I had heard…read moremany good things about MaZi from some friends and thought I'd buy a 5-class Groupon to test it out (at a $20 value, it's a steal!). I loved it! The dance instructor that taught the noon class I took (Alex) was incredibly welcoming to people with a variety of dance experience (in my case, none LOL). I had struggled at first to get the hang of the moves, but eventually I was able to keep up to some extent and get a nice sweat going! I would highly recommend trying MaZi Dance if you are looking for a very fun and active way to exercise :)

This review is for the Adult classes, specifically the ballet class. When I first started going it…read morewas a monthly fee for 2 classes of your choice. It then moved to 1 class for the monthly fee. This is a little pricey considering the fees for the other studios in the area that offer adult classes. If you took ballet as a child and want to get back into it and grow, I would not recommend this studio. The training of the teachers they select for this class is wishy washy. Sometimes they have teachers that are professionals or former professional dancers, which is great. Sometimes they have teachers that trained as a dancer so they took ballet classes, but ballet isn't their thing, or in the case of 1 person they would use to sub doesn't even like ballet. I signed up for ballet. I don't want a hip hop fusion or jazz, but ballet. There doesn't seem to be any mentoring of the younger teachers so they can grow and develop. I don't see the younger students exhibiting studio etiquette. Also not sure if it's even taught to them. When I was a young student, when the class ended, you needed to gather your things and leave and the class helpers made sure you were with your parent/guardian. There's a lot of lingering so the next class starts very late, but still ends on time, so we are cheated out of time and money. They also need to be more transparent on their money practices. They would sometimes randomly cancel class or breaks in the middle of the month, with no mention of giving a credit unless you specifically call or email to inquire. If you don't inquire, they have no intentions on offering a remedy.

Good dance studio. Good teachers. Very sympathetic to adult dancers by making accomodations for…read moreany physical issues. Problems with the studio - no locker rooms, they turned them into storage it looks like, very small waiting areas/hallways with kids' bookbags everywhere, you have to bring your coat/belongings into the dance studio because no lockers and hang your stuff on the bar because ants will crawl into it. It takes 30 extra days after you cancel your membership so they can charge you one more time.

What a gem of a ballet school!…read more The three reasons we have loved this school for our daughter: (1) The faculty has some serious ballet expertise and passion (numerous alumni have become professional ballet dancers) but they're also incredibly good with teaching kids. Our daughter is always excited to go and see her teachers & classmates. (2) All students from 3yos in Creative Movement to the pre-professional dancers in the studio company are cast in their annual Nutcracker performances. Not only is it a cool experience for her perform on stage in real performing arts venues like the Harris Theater, but it's taught her a lot that goes beyond dance. Performing on stage in front of over a thousand people without stage fright, showing up for her classmates for multiple shows each season are good life skills. (3) While ballet isn't the most historically diverse place, Ballet Chicago's school directors make a conscious effort to be inclusive (different backgrounds, body types, etc.) You can tell they're committed to making ballet a positive experience for their dancers and it extends across the school. There's a real community feel. Oh! and I should mention that the studio and classes are also well-equipped: live piano accompaniment during classes, Marley sprung floors, nice natural light.

Both my son and daughter enjoyed performing in the annual nutcracker performance and it was great as a parent to watch the esprit de corp develop among the young dancers of all ages.
