We went to Pizzeria and Ristorante Da Franco with a friend who lives in Ascea. The restaurant is at the far end of Corso from the town center and they have a reasonable €15 menu del giorno (tourist menu; primo, secondo, contorno, coperto, servizio) for dinner. It is quite big inside, but being a nice evening we sat on the small terrace in front on the street. The service was very attentive and good. I went with the menu del giorno and a primo of penne boscaiola (meat, mushrooms, and peas) with scallopina ai funghi (meat scallops in mushroom sauce) as my secondo and patatine (french fries) for a contorno. The boscaiola was creamy, earthy and robust, the scallopine light and savory, and the fries crispy and hot. An excellent meal at just €15. My wife and her friend had pizza which was as good as expected in Southern Italy, particularly anywhere within 100 miles of Naples. The crusts thin, yet sturdy enough to hold the toppings without getting soggy with just the right amount of tomato and other ingredients, not too many and not too few. Da Franco was quite a good value in a beach town with remarkably few options, particularly for those on a budget and is recommended when visiting Ascea. My daughter had a "complaint" in that she wanted to see the fish head of our flounder... I told her that they cleaned the fish for us, but somehow, the papa heard her in a way that only a papa would & appeared with the fish head on a plate for her to see... she couldn't get over it! Absolutely delightful experience…read more I discovered this place because it was on the list of restaurants recommended by our hotel (Hilton Sorrento Palace) and it offered free travel to and from the restaurant (which was great because we hadn't rented a car). So we got a reservation and went for dinner. The interior is charming and warm with an old-school vibe and it offers a great view of Ischia Island during the day. Fantastic wine list and excellent pasta. After dinner, our waiter who was attentive and friendly came by with a tiered dessert cart and serves the dessert right off the tray. Our only complaint was that a couple a few tables away were Facetiming with someone on their phone for half an hour. None of us wanted to listen to their conversation. That has nothing to do with the restaurant-- I just wanted to point out that it's rude to talk on speaker phone when other people are trying to enjoy a nice, quiet dinner in an upscale environment. I heard a rumor it might close down as the owner is retiring, but I hope that rumor wasn't true. I'd definitely like to go back next time I'm in Sorrento.

They do some traditional cuisine with a modern twist for some surprisingly tasty food, like for example macaroni pasta with tuna, an outstanding one. We did a couple of white wine glasses from the region, very reasonable in terms of price and balance. All in all an experience to repeat at least another time.

A great little pub with one of the best selection of beers in the Cilento region…read more It's marketed as an Irish pub, however most Brits will realise it looks just like a typical, traditional pub with nothing particularly Irish about it. I'm never really sure why pubs abroad feel they need to market themselves as Irish, anyway, I'll just put that down to one of life's little mysteries ;) The beer menus are pretty vast and expect to find an excellent selection of Italian artisan / craft beers and fantastic trappist beers from Belgium and Holland. Price wise, the beer's not cheap and the service can be a bit slow. However, the food is good and the beer is mighty fine and cold. Music can also be a bit lame, with generic music television channels blaring out the latest naff pop hits. Apart from the bad music, Molly's is a great place to quench your thirst and hang out for the night!
