My visit with Dr. Beiser was very unpleasant.. For some reason, he seemed to dislike me. He overmanipulated my foot which now hurts worse than it EVER has. I've been soaking my foot in Epsom Salts, something I've not done in years, but it doesn't help. Maybe he was having a bad day; nevertheless, I'm NEVER going back to him and I'm sure HE couldn't care less. The staff was very nice. If I were rating the support staff, I'd give them 5 stars. He gets "0" stars for his bad (condescending) attitude. EDIT: As days go by, my foot gets worse. I KNOW what he did, and I believe he did it intentionally. He knew exactly what he was doing. What was the point of the excessive foot manipulation? He just exacerbated the problem. He wanted to hurt me and he did! Now, instead of just TWO toes hurting, my WHOLE foot hurts. Rude @-#ole. I never thought I would find a foot surgeon based on Yelp reviews (I usually only use it for the best sushi in the area or something much less involved), but thanks to the kind words for Dr. Beiser on Yelp, I was sold and I feel its necessary to contribute to the positive reviews. I'm 26 years old and have dealt with weak ankles for as long as I can remember. I wear orthodics in my shoes and avoid high heels MOST of the time. As a result of the ankle issues, I always knew I would be a candidate for bunion surgery at some point in my life. As a woman with no kids and a recently retired mom, I decided now was as good a time as any, I just needed the right surgeon. Washingtonian TOP DOCTORS does not have a section for podiatrists. They should and Dr. Beiser would be at the top of that list. I had no trouble getting an appointment, he completely explained the procedure, recovery time etc to me, and told me he could have me walking again days after the surgery. I went in on a Wednesday morning, he was there, ready for me, and put all of my worries at ease. The surgery was simple, and he even used a "plastic surgery" type stitch to ensure I would have minimal scarring. I was back to work on Monday. His office is full of the latest technology, including instant x-rays where he was able to tell me DURING my initial consultation how much my foot was "off" and what the surgery would entail. I experience minimal wait time and late (430) appts, which I definitely appreciate. I am still in the recovery stages, sporting a very sexy surgical shoe, but I am confident I will be back to normal, 2 months after surgery (which essentially warrants breakings ones foot) thanks to Dr. Beiser. read more

Dr, Beiser is very professional and friendly. I was nervous to see a podiatrist as I knew it was time to finally get my ingrown toenail taken care of. Dr. Beiser did a great job of making me feel comfortable before, during, and after the procedure. It's been a little over two weeks since I had the ingrown removed and it's healing nicely and there is very little pain involved. I have a few "hammer toes" on both feet and will be making appointments with Dr. Beiser to have them taken care of. Highly recommend Dr. Beiser! There was an episode, awhile back, involving a heel spur. A heel spur hurts like hell! So, I was referred to Dr. Ian Beiser. Dr. Beiser is a wonderful podiatrist. He was professional who didn't waste your time by suggesting whatever products he could sell to you. He'll tell you exactly what you need and leave it up to you. Dr. Beiser doesn't sugarcoat. One time, I had to get a cortisone shot injected into the bottom of my foot. He warned me that it would hurt like hell but that I'd feel relief. And boy, it sure did hurt like hell! I wanted to scream "Mommy"! However, within seconds of the shot, I actually felt relief. But, that doesn't mean that I'd go through that again! I'd rather see a dentist than a podiatrist. Nonetheless, Dr. Beiser was wonderful with treating my heel spur and giving practical suggestions to maximize the treatment. read more

I've been patient of Dr. Beiser for about two decades and, over the years, have seen him four or five times, each visit dealing a different foot issue, which he corrected in one visit. Physicians recommend him, and his reputation with area doctors is outstanding. Also, unusual for a surgeon, Dr. Beiser always seeks the least invasive procedure, never recommending surgery unless there are no other options. And he patiently answers all questions! His staff is superb, as well: knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly patient-focused -- and gracious, always gracious. In addition, they're efficient. Let me preface this by saying Dr. Beiser himself was fantastic. Great doctor. I saw him, upon recommendation from my PCP, in September 14. He recommended a boot for my foot issues. All fine and dandy. I paid my $30 copay for the visit, asked if there was any charge for the boot, and they said they didn't think so - but if there was, they'd bill me. I finally got a bill in August 2015 (actually August 31, 2015 - almost September). At that point, I had long forgotten about it, and I couldn't use my FSA money for something that occurred in 2014. I called and was told there was nothing they could do. I don't mind paying for the boot. It costs what it costs. What I do mind is that it took them a year to bill me for it. By then, I'm long past my 2014 medical budget and I can't even dip into my 2015 FSA. So I basically had to pay a surpise out of pocket because they took a year to bill me for service. Dr. Beiser is great, but I won't come back. I still have the boot (I paid for it, after all....) and will just use that if the issue arises again. read more

Dr. Beiser is outstanding. I have high arches and some other minor foot issues and I have seen him multiple times. He is always friendly., explains things clearly, patiently answers questions (I tend to have a lot of questions), and he never upsells his services. He clearly makes decisions based on your health and not based on his billable time. For example, when my Achilles tendon was super irritated, he identified that the cause was a bone spur. That can be solved with a relatively minor surgery. However, he explained that the bone spur had probably been there for a long time and that this irritation might be a temporary issue. As I was getting new inserts for my shoes anyways, he suggested a wait and see approach. Two months later, my tendon was fine and I never had to get any surgery. In the future, I will feel very comfortable accepting his advice. read more

I had a minor complication from a procedure and when I called the office, they actually put me through directly to Dr. Beiser! Wow! That just doesn't happen in a DC doctor's office. Or maybe it does. I began experiencing heal pain in late December 2011, so when I saw my primary doctor for a physical a few months later, I mentioned the on and off pain, and she properly diagnosed it as plantar fasciitis and referred me to Dr. Beiser. I see he has many good reviews, but my experience just wasn't all that great. The first visit seemed very rushed. Nothing much was explained to me about this ailment, like what causes it and what I need to do to help it heal and how long it takes to heal. Nope. I had to go online AFTER The visit to look that information up, and any doctor leaving me feeling lost like that is not off to a good start. Also on the first visit, he taped my foot, not checking at all to see if my insurance covered that or not, and not explaining to me about the taping. It was just rush rush rush. See me back in a week. The tape felt weird and while it helped some, basically fell off the next day after a shower. So again, I went to my friend google and looked up videos on how to retape my foot myself, and the video also explained the purpose of doing it. Second visit, the doctor pretty much criticized how I taped my foot, and added a few more pieces and said to see him back in two weeks. Rush rush. That's was about it, and now hand over another copay! By the third visit, I told him that I pretty much gave up on the tape, as taping my foot every morning got to be a drag, and not to mention the tape was causing so much sticky residue on the bottom of my foot and my heels were starting to crack. So rush rush, he then asked if I wanted a cortisone shot. At that point, I was willing to try it, but again, nothing about it was explained to me and I had to ask things like, "How long will it last for?" I know patients need to be proactive these days, but isn't it the doctor's job to inform their patients about the very basics of ailments and treatments? So I got the shot and it hurt super bad. I wasn't even told how bad it would hurt, rush rush, but oh well, I got through it. On the way out to pay, it was only then that I was told that I owed a balance. I didn't understand since I had paid every copay. I called my insurance company and found out that the stupid taping he did wasn't covered and that I had to pay for it, and it wasn't cheap! We're talking a lot of money just to slap some tape on the bottom of the foot! It bothered me a great deal that I had to pay for that, when I should have been told up front more about it, if the insurance covered it or not, and the costs, because I would have refused it had I know more. I had googled how to tape my foot myself anyway! After I hobbled back to my office, I mentioned to another coworker that I had gotten the cortisone shot in my foot, and she mentioned having had the same foot problem. She told me to buy some Spenco orthotics (the hard ones) and to try those, and also to buy a women's loafer like shoe with a slight heal (Trotters "Jenn"). She even sent me a link to a good site to buy them from (Shoebuy.com). I took her advice and the new shoes and inserts have helped a ton. Meanwhile the doctor had only recommended the $300 custom made inserts, which my insurance would not cover, and never mentioned Spenco to try first (about $30). There was even a pharmacy in his office building lobby that sold those, yet he never said a word to me about them. How sad is it that you get more information about your ailment and cures from google and from a coworker than from your own doctor? It all just left a bad feeling in my gut about this doctor. The last appointment I went to this week was the last straw for me. I got to my appointment on time, but was left to wait in a patient room for a half an hour. Nobody told me why I was waiting so long or apologized or offered me any information as to how much longer I would be waiting, so I got up and said I was leaving, because I wasn't about to wait another half an hour, and wait for what... more rush rush treatment with lack of information? I was done. This doctor is not a nightmare or anything like that, but he just was not all that either, and not at all for me. I want a doctor who does their job and treats me like they care. If I have to do everything myself and am not even treated well, what the heck am I paying you for? read more

I had an 8:15am appointment this morning and arrived early only to find that the office was closed and no one was there. I called the main phone # and was redirected to an answering service which informed me that the office sometimes opens a bit later on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I waited around until 8:35 and no one showed so I left to go to work. Completely unprofessional (not even a call-back or anything) and inconsiderate. Now I have to stay late at work next week to make up the time I took off. 0 stars if I could give it. read more

My visit with Dr. Beiser was excellent. After bouncing around from my PCP to an orthopedist at George Washington who recommended surgery, I saw Dr. Beiser for a second opinion. I was able to get an appointment right away, and he is the only doctor who was able to clearly explain to me the issue with my foot. They staff has been good about calling me when the new ones have come in and I just show up and they squeeze me in without too much of a wait - vastly different from my first experience. The doc was great. I never had a foot problem before and was hesitant about going to the doctor, like a typical guy. I hurt my foot playing volleyball, but not bad enough to stay off the foot. What I liked about my first vist was that the doc wasn't quick to give a shot or put me crutches. He he padded my foot and gave me some recommendations on shoes, and things not to do. If I had stopped playing volleyball, it probably would have worked but being that I did not I had to go back to the do. What I liked about my second visit was that the doc gave me choice on my treatment. He let me decide how aggressive I wanted to be with the treatment. I had little wait time in the waiting room. The examination was quick without feeling rushed. Overall I was very happy and would recommend him to friends and family. read more

Dr. Beiser treated my Hallux rigidus, and I could not be happier with the outcome. At first I was deciding which of the two possible surgical options I wanted; the less aggressive Cheilectomy or the more aggressive fusion. Dr. Beiser took as much time as I needed to discuss the options and trade-offs, even answering some long emails on the topic. His demeanor and patience with my questions and concerns could not have been better. He was professional and friendly. In the end I went with the Cheilectomy, and I am ecstatic with how it worked out. I was able to walk out of the surgical center. I followed Dr. Beiser's directions (ice and elevation) to minimize post-surgical swelling, and never needed pain medication. By the time I went for my first post-op visit the foot was already healing well. The comparison of the before and after x-rays was amazing, going from a joint that looked like a mess to one that looked virtually perfect (at least to a layman). By the time the stitches came out the foot had only very minimal swelling and it was comfortable to walk. I believe Dr. Beiser uses some "plastic surgery-like" techniques to minimize the scarring. Although the incision is not yet completely healed, so far it does seem that it will be a very clean, straight, and minimal 2-1/2" scar. Overall I could not be more pleased with how this whole process went, and Dr. Beiser was great. read more

I have put off for years what I suspected were bunions, and got opinions on-line and from co-workers about what I could expect pain-wise. My physician referred me to Dr. Beiser, after having been treated by him. I got right in as soon as I called, got x-rays and he came right in. Took his time explaining the x-rays and procedures and that I could choose or not choose to do anything about it. Just had surgery last week and a post check up yesterday. All is well. And no pain, just a black and blue foot. I don't know what happened with the other two commenters who had poor experiences, but if you're looking for a foot doctor, go see Dr. Beiser! Dr. Beiser exceeded my expectations. I came to him after seeing 2 other podiatrists for my much needed bunion surgery, one of which was a cosmetic foot surgeon. I was thinking I might get the best results from someone who is supposed to make it look as close to perfect as possible. After hearing about pins sticking out of my foot, using crutches, bearing no weight on the foot at all for 6 weeks and an ugly scar on the top of my foot (all things I was hoping to avoid) I opted not to go with them. Then I found Dr. Beiser! He put me at ease and thoroughly explained the surgery and healing process. He also does a nice incision on the side of the foot. I'm one week post op and haven't had much pain at all! There was only one day I needed to take any pain meds. I've had questions after surgery and I love that Dr. Beiser returns calls himself to answer any questions. Not to mention, my x-rays look like I never even had surgery! I'm so pleased with the results and I can't wait to get my other foot done as soon as I'm all healed. read more

Dr. B and Dr. H are great but I have reservations about going back to this office because the office staff is sloppy. I needed an orthotic and the office manager needed to call my insurance to find out if the medical device was covered. She called me to say that the orthotic was covered and that she would order it. I waited a few days and heard nothing else so I followed but unfortunately was told that the office manager was off and that I should follow up later. The conversation was distracting because the office staff was busy having another conversation and laughing repeatedly. I continued to follow up and then finally spoke with Dr. H. She revealed to me that my insurance actually does not cover the medical device. Between March 30 - April 27 it took this long to determine coverage, clarify if an order was being placed, and finally revealed that the claim that I was covered and the order was placed had in fact never happened. My insurance ends April 30th. I had a sense of urgency but the staff clearly had other plans to move along without a sense of focus, and appropriate care and seriousness needed for a clinical environment. This is the worst experience I have ever had in a Doctor's office. read more

Dr. Beiser did one bunionectomy surgery for me last August and I am in the process of scheduling the one for my other foot. I am completely happy with the results: the process is straightforward, he explained it well beforehand, the surgery was a smooth process, the recovery easy and exactly as described. I experienced minimal pain when following the elevation/icing instructions. He was able to use a type of stitching that left minimal scarring- in fact, I can hardly see the scar AT ALL less than one year later. I was worried about the flexibility of the big toe at first, but through "wiggling" and exercising it properly, it came back 90% a few months later. Honestly, with a pain-free foot (which I notice, with the other foot, how much they both used to hurt), I don't need the other 10% for anything. I am able to wear all kinds of shoes now with no pain, even some heels. Looking forward to having the second one done and two improved feet! I also had a good experience with his office staff. It was a bit of work trying to figure out with the surgery center how much it would cost after my insurance coverage, but, that is not a reflection on Dr. Beiser's office. read more

Dr. Beiser does not have the bed side manner I always look for in a provider. I'd gone for a lump in my big toe that was extremely painful. He came in with a very "dry" greeting considering I was a new patient and told me I had two options which were Cortizone or Surgery. I asked is there no in between? He said, no. I was mortified!!!!! However, I was horribly deceived when I was reassured that my insurance plan would cover the expenses, and later slapped with a huge bill. Always check with your insurance company prior to the service rendered about coverage - don't believe what the doctor's office tells you! These people are liars and thieves. I went to Dr. Beiser about 8 years ago for a second opinion on some foot surgery I needed. He was so thorough and patient with explaining my ailment and corrective procedures, that of course, I went with him. Surgery was a success with very minimal pain afterwards. Fast forward to present day, I realized I couldn't remember this wonderful podiatrist's name and wound up going to another podiatrist in the same building thinking it was him. Arrived at the other podiatrist's office and realized immediately, that I was not in the same tranquil, updated space as I had been before. I saw this other podiatrist, but just wasn't comfortable with the outdated lobby and examine room, diagnosis and treatment. So I left the office, but not the building, and discovered Dr. Beiser's office on the second floor. I went in and explained my situation to the front desk staff, and on a whim, just asked if there happened to be an opening for him to see me that day. Sure enough, they fit me in and I was in the exam room 15 mins later. Dr. Beiser was just as I remembered him. Knowledgable, patient, and detailed. He answered every single question without seeming rushed or in haste. I am highly critical of doctors as I believe most don't give two cents about a patients health and are prescrip pushers. However, Dr. Beiser rates extremely high in my book, and is ever deserving of the high marks and reviews received. I strongly recommend him! read more

I went to Dr. Beiser for chronic plantar fasciitis, and he recommended surgery. He cut me up on October 30, 2013, and after six months I was still unable to walk without excruciating pain. After going back to him several times he treated me like a patient trying to scam him for pain meds and sent me to a pain specialist. I went to the pain specialists who informed me it was inappropriate for him to perform surgery on me and then send me to them for pain. After several scathing emails to him, he asked me to come back in and gave me more pain meds, but said there was nothing much more he could do for me. These doctors make their money on surgeries and then cut patients loose who do not get good results. It's a scam. I went to a lawyer to file a lawsuit, but they were reluctant to help me. The long and short of it is that I BOUGHT NEW SHOES! NEW BALANCE walking shoes made me much better. Why didn't he recommend that?...oh, he does not get paid money for that does he? This guy is a charlatan. Do not go to him, and do not let him cut on you! It's Feb 2015, and I still have severe foot pain no thanks to Dr. Ian Beiser! I have totally lost faith in medical practitioners due to people like Dr. Beiser. They are businessmen who care nothing for their patients. read more
