We went their on a Friday evening and although everything was booked (except for the fine dining area upstairs) we got a spot at the bar. Although fully packed the place isn't packed and the noise level is such that you can easily have a conversation without getting hoarse. The food, i.e. tapas were delicious, fresh and not the typical too much oil/ garlic mash of bad tapas places - even the Chorizo didn't put you in a fat induced coma. Best thing we ordered was the traditional tortilla (omlette) just perfect, made to order. My personal highlight although was that didn't feel rushed. We came to this spanish tapa bar and ended up having what one of my friends described as "the best dinner I have ever had in London!!!" We ordered about 15 of the dishes. Asparagus toast was amazing. Calamari was unique and my favorite was the sliders. We ordered some smoking whiskey drink. We forego are table and at the bar because "Nacho" the bartender was incredible! Enjoy!!! read more

I've tried almost everything on the tapas menu (haven't had the paella) taken together from all the times I've been here because the location is convenient for work/work dinners. The food is delicious and they have an extensive wine/drinks menu. I would say it's pretty traditional tapas; and while all the food is really good - I don't think there's a huge wow-factor that sets it apart from other great tapas restaurants in London. read more

Great Spanish food and nice décor. A great place for some special occasions!

For a city that sets a low bar for restaurant service, this restaurant might possibly strike a new, appalling, level. While the food is not bad, after all it's quite hard to make a mess of tapas, the wait-staff are universally incompetent. Add in the basic poor cleanliness (bathrooms, plates, cutlery etc) and it's surely on a fast track to closure. Try any pub in London and you'll have a much better time, for a lot less money. read more

I loved the atmosphere and design of this Spanish tapas restaurant. The food and wine, especially the Tempranillo and Iberica ham and octopus, was delicious. it js a perfect spot for a fun group dinner as you can share everything and try multiple dishes! Atmosphere is ideal for a Spanish tapas experience. I brought a friend here to experience the Jamón Ibérica. We ordered the triple platter accompanied with tomato bread and found both excellent. Also excellent was the black rice with prawns and cuddle fish. This was so well executed I requested the recipe and our server brought us a printout. In all we ordered a very nice bottle of red wine and six menu items including a dessert for around 90£. The service was adequate and friendly but not stellar therefore I dropped a star. I was really looking forward to trying this place out after reading all the good reviews,managed to get an early evening table for Tapas on saturday for 6 of us. The place looks great and a big thumbs up goes to the spanish staff here - they were so helpful and most polite,even though rushed off their feet.Great wine list,and the spanish red we chose went well with the array of tapas plates ordered. The Rice dish was good as was the cheese platter,but the spanish omlette was very runny not nice atall,the cheese croquettes were also a let down with pureed blue cheese.Monkfish platter was too tiny to have much effect.Rabbit was too salty,patatas bravas had an odd sauce. Icecream and sorbet were nice but coffee - don't bother. We were on benches,which after a while got very uncomfortable along with it being so hot in there.Do not wear a thick jumper,you will boil! For over £200,very pricey for what we had and i guess i was expecting it to be close to the taste i have had in Barcelona after all the rave reviews - but the taste and price did not wow me....having said that i would go again to have a glass of wine and cheese at the bar as i loved the staff and the atmosphere. read more

Yes....nice. I passed it on Monday afternoon on the way to meet a mate for a sly pint. We popped in. A bright two tier place where we sat at the bar and had a glass of red. The chorizo lollipops in light batter with a tasty dip, and yours sincerely even had a go on the cod fritters (I am not a fish person)...damned good fun even though it was a quiet afternoon. In fairness, Iberica probably deserves 3.5 stars. Food is good, wine is good but service is AWFUL. Perhaps us Americans have a different set of standards in what we expect from service staff because we tip ours for great service, but the two gentleman working the main dining room during our visit were laughably slow and less than competent. Best Spanish I've had in London! I'm especially enamored with Iberica's "Expressions (http://londonist.com/2009/09/spanish_lunch_tasting_menu_review_e.php) " menu. Spanish restaurant and cultural centre, Iberica (195 Great Portland Street, W1W 5PS), has recently launched a new mini desgustacion menu available Monday through Saturday from noon to 3pm. Served only at the bar (and a long, lovely bar at that), this mini desgustacion menu is an attractive arrangement of hot and cold (and deliciously innovative) tapas served with a crisp cold glass of Tio Pepe. At £16 and promised to be under your chin within 10 to 15 minutes of ordering, it's the best culinary representation in London of what's gorgeous and current (without being all molecular and chi-chi) about modern Spanish cooking. I can only imagine the rest of the menu is awesome here as well. I am dying to go back and to share this marvel with my foodie friends. Just wonderful. Why aren't I there right now? read more

Solid food and wine. I really enjoyed most everything I had, but found the staff could have been a little warmer. Sometimes it was just a little harder than I'd like to get the waitstaff's attention, which I'd expect to be not the case at a higher end establishment. Went here for my birthday. Best tapas this side of Spain. Brought complimentary champagne for the table, which was kind of them. Things that were really good: their cured meats, chorizo lollipops (no kidding!), chickpea pureé (can you say "hummus"!?), black rice with cuttlefish, serrano ham croquettes, patatas bravas. Reservation was needed. Seated promptly, servers were very nice, but also very busy. Our table of two was passed over a lot, as the bigger parties near us got more attention. Drinks were delicious, and ambiance was lovely. Paella was really great, but almost too salty (and I love salt). The squid ink rice was not my cup of tea. We called same day to inquire about the paella and make a reservation. Online it said they needed a 12 hour in advance notice in order to prepare it on a weekday, but over the phone the staff said that they could do it no problem. The only thing was that they couldn't offer us the seafood & chicken paella but instead said they could offer seafood paella and a separate order of the slow stewed chicken and rice. We thought this was somewhat odd, but decided to schedule the reservation anyways. Once we arrived, we were informed at the door that we were only able to sit at our table for 2 hours. This also sounded somewhat odd and also slightly rude, but at this point we were already there, meeting a friend, and had placed our order for paella and the chicken and rice, so we stayed. :: Onto the food & drinks :: Tapas: Best thing here and honestly very good. We had the fried chorizo lollipops which were pretty delicious. As well, we ordered the Corn torto fritter with Cabrales cheese egg scramble. It was also surprisingly good. Sangria: Over the course of the evening we ordered both the red and white sangria. They were both tasty but mediocre at best. Paella: This is where the low rating comes in. The Seafood paella was made up of only prawns and very small diced up squid (which several of us had originally mistaken for corn). It was pretty pathetic. Not a single clam, mussel, lobster, etc. It was honestly just prawn paella and it was pretty bland. The dish was also a little too moist. Chicken & Rice: This was the worst thing we had. The rice was super moist and the flavor was overall gross. Very overpowered with saffron and it was just a goop of brown rice and a chicken thigh (which also made it ridiculous to share). Finally, as we finished up the second pitcher of sangria, we were reminded that our time was up and that it was time for us to leave. This felt pretty rude to be rushed out of a restaurant and it would've been nice if they mentioned this when taking our reservation. In addition, we had ordered an entire pitcher no more that 15-20 minutes before this, but I think it was clear that we were unhappy with the main entrees. All in all, if you want tasty tapas and have no intention of spending time chatting with friends and family then this place is alright. Made reservations for 6pm on a Saturday. Hostess was less than welcoming. It seemed we were a nuisance to her for desiring to dine here. Her greeting was a frown and to advise us we must vacate our table before 8pm. The food was okay. Croquettes were the tastiest. We were served a dish we didn't order. Attempted to correct with server but insistent it was ours. Eventually he returned to let us know that it was not our dish.... Would not go back. So many other better restaurants in London to enjoy. We went there recently for a work-related dinner with a very diverse group of people. The great thing about tapas is that there is something in it for everyone. I like it because it's a very social way of eating and sharing food, and that also worked out at our dinner. The food at Iberica was delicious and the service excellent. Since we were a larger group, we had made a reservation in advance and settled on one of the menus. That was a good choice, and we were not disappointed by the never-ending stream of dishes that arrrived at our table. My personal favourites were the potato omelette ("Spanish Omelette with onions") and the tuna-pepper cakes ("Roasted Piquillos with bonito tuna and caramelized onions"), but others obviously had a different taste. I was not so much convinced by the desserts (almond sponge with chocolate mousse and berries, caramelized spanish rice pudding), but again, that will be very much up to your own taste and expectations. Given the central location, it is definitely a bit more on the pricey side. However, we had a great evening and would certainly come again. read more

This is a nice restaurant, food is always well-prepared and delicious, staff are polite and friendly. What makes the atmosphere at Iberica is the decoration. It's cosy and has enough space. If you are looking for a good, not for amazing Spanish restaurant, you should try this place I'm sure you'll like it. nom nom nom croquettas. Tasty food, jaunty staff, and if you sit upstairs you get plenty of space which I've found is not the case at other tapas joints. I thought it was better than Brindisa, although maybe less of an event than eating at Barrafina without the queue. We had a lovely dinner in the upstairs seating area. Each appetizer or tapa we ordered was excellent. What prevents this from being a 5-star review was the first waiter. As in many restaurants, waiters share tables, so this is not a criticism of all, just the first waiter who took our order. He kept steering us to the most expensive items whether they met our preferences or not. Also, I'm pretty sure he heard us order tap water, but brought bottled still water and proceeded to open it before we could object. It was stressful to deal with him. The meal improved when he no longer waited on us. The other waiters were polite and efficient. read more

Great place for a relaxed but classy Spanish tapas. The best dishes are the chorizo lollipops and pan con tomate. Big shame they took their secreto pork loin off the menu a while back, that was fantastic. Great decor, some lovely table spots upstairs - v private and intimate. Generally good service. Am often going back. Can avoid spending too much if in budget mode without losing quality. read more
