A solid ice cream spot, lots of flavors. The ice cream had just the right consistency, creamy and not too icy. Pretty standard in terms of service and atmosphere. I will say the ice cream did seem a bit pricey relative to the size of the scoops and the quality. This was a bit more of a grab and go spot, since there wasn't really seating available, which seemed a bit weird for an ice cream shop. 5 years ago I wrote a review for this place when it was Granny's and gave it 5 stars, raving about amazing it was. I moved away and just came back and went to stop in and get my favorite only 8 yogurt. I am honestly shocked at what a bad experience this was. I got a medium only8 chocolate frozen yogurt. I included the picture of what my ice cream looked like, it was soup, and didn't peak over the top of the cup. I even said to the girl who made my ice cream is this what it's supposed to look like and she said yes. I honestly asked again and she said yeah, this is the machine and what it is. The best part was when she told me it was $9.75 for this cup of soup with no toppings that didn't even swirl like normal ice cream. I actually said outloud omg are you sure that's the right price and she said yes and asked me if I was paying with a card. Really disappointing experience and I guess I'll have to find somewhere else to get my favorite yogurt. read more

Vegan desserts, especially ice cream, have come a LONG way over the past decade or so. That said, I'll always have a place in my heart for the Carvel cakes of my childhood, with those unspeakably delicious chocolate crunch snaking its way through the middle. It's seemingly impossible to find, but... Ice Cream Social does that for us! They also somehow replicate the flavor of Carvel vanilla which is hard to describe unless you've tasted it. My brother and sister in law surprised the fam with a vanilla chip cake yesterday for Father's Day and it's nothing short of extraordinary. My father, who loves Carvel and is most certainly NOT vegan, loved this cake. I am vegan for decades and wanted to marry this cake. It's so rich and decadent and the chocolate crispies are perfection. Even the whipped cream icing and sprinkles made me feel like I was a kid again (including that feeling that I wanted to beg for a second slice!) Cute ice cream parlor in Commack. It's in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The ice cream flavors were yummy and they had a lot of cool flavors. The ice cream was in general on the softer side though and it was pretty much on its way to melting by the time we stepped outside and hurriedly finished our ice cream in the parking lot. I did like the coffee cake - tasted just like coffee cake! Also I love cookies and cream and was very intrigued to see the base be chocolate ice cream (as opposed to vanilla) - this is the first time I've ever seen that for cookies and cream ice cream. I still liked it but would have preferred the vanilla. I also got the vanilla chip. My spouse said the chocolate chips tasted minty but honestly I couldn't really taste the mint much. The last time I went to an Ice Cream store that provides their own custom flavors was in Carey, North Carolina. This store is located in a small strip mall with ample parking. From what I read; Ice Cream Social has several flavors of ice cream along with vegan flavors. They do have traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and cookie dough, but they are constantly designing new flavors. I tried many flavors before choosing the pumpkin pie flavor ice cream. But I did also like the apple cider donut and Coco Almond Joy. Next time I will explore other interesting creations. The staff was kind enough to afford me the opportunity to taste many creative flavors. It was not easy to settle on just one flavor. I recall a family member explaining to me what it takes to create these interesting flavors, and he stated it is all in the Cream mix. You can't miss this place, there is a big Ice Cream cone sign by the door! Walking in, there are a few great choices. My choice is Rocky Road in a cone. I'm asked, One Scoop or Two? I need to cool off but I don't want to ruin dinner so its one scoop for me. The Rocky Road? Insane.. Lots of chunky funky things going on, Marshmallows, Chocolate Chunks and Creamy Chocolate Ice Cream. Did I just describe heaven? I was so impressed, I put a pin in it and went home and told Mrs S. We're driving to Nassau county this weekend. I told my wife lets be social and have some ice cream. She's down so I set the Nav to Ice Cream Social. We walk in and the line is out the door? I told her, lets not wait. We'll come back when we head back home. Sure enough, the line is low and we're ready to order. Yippy! My wife ordered "Coconut Almond Joy" and let me tell you, it was pure joy to enjoy this flavor. Creamy ice cream with tons of coconut and almonds. Usually, they have the chunks on top. This flavor had chunks in every single bite. Here's where the shenanigans start. We're asked "cup or cone"? Then, small or medium? My wife said, a small cup please. We see a small cup but then, two massive scoops are put into the cup. I'm like, dang! I changed it up, small please with a chocolate peanut butter base with chocolate cookies and cream?? *What should have been asked, would you like one scoop or two? Ice Cream Social has a mini, a one scoop cup. That would have been our preferred choice. I'll continue. My wife & are in bliss, I asked if I could use my debit card. Not a problem sir! I get home and check my bank app. Those two small ice cream cups were $14 dollars? What. The. F! Wait, did I ask for gold flakes on those cups? Listen Ice Cream Social. Now this was some delicious ice cream! Since trying to eat healthier, we still allow ourselves ice-cream on the weekend and today we took a little drive just to try Granny's... and we're glad we did. I had toasted coconut. I think it's one of the best cups of ice cream I've had. Very flavorful, filled with actual toasted coconut. Hubby had Coconut Almond Joy and raved about how good it was. While I will say from looks alone it was just a small ice cream shop, the flavors delivered, and there was a lot to choose from. They even had a whole section of vegan non-dairy flavors which was nice to see. Plus, they had some frozen ice cream sandwiches and bonnets to take to keep at home. Found out about Granny's via Facebook back in June/July! Was able to make it here today. The girls working behind the counter were super sweet! Very polite and nice. It appeared that they actually liked their job and they wanted to be there. When it was my turn to order I had asked if they still had the rainbow cookie sundae, as it was last month's sundae of the month. I did see that they had rainbow cookie ice cream...so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. The girl helping me was such a sweetheart. She checked to see if they still had the toppings to make the sundae for me. They had the rainbow cookie bites but not the raspberry syrup. She offered me chocolate syrup instead, but I decided on no syrup. The flavor of the ice cream was out-of-this-world delicious! Tasted just like a rainbow cookie. Flavors 100000% on point! I saw a write up in Newsday that this place was owned by a chef who was on Hells Kitchen so of course I had to check it out. Pulled up at 9 pm on a weeknight and there was a line outside, surely a good sign. All flavors are touted as being homemade and I have to say they did NOT disappoint. This ice cream is nothing like what you'd get in the supermarket. It's luxuriously creamy and imbued with flavor. So good that I in fact shamelessly had two different items and I ain't even made about it. Pistachio is my favorite flavor of all time so naturally I had to try it. Unlike some other places, Granny's has the ratio of nuts to ice cream perfectly proportioned. I went in for seconds with pumpkin pie ice cream topped with caramel and whipped cream in a waffle bowl. Basically Thanksgiving dessert in ice cream form. My only complaint is that they need more powerful spoons. My chintzy utensil was not able to effectively scoop the ice cream out of the bowl and into my mouth efficiently and I was concerned a number of times it would break. read more

Visit Date: March 12, 2021 I took my son to Smithaven mall and than found Granny's and we went there for ice cream after because we have adventures that involve doing something fun and getting ice cream after. He deserved ice cream because I've been hardcore obsessed with Tupac lately and took him to the mall for a Tupac hoodie. I got nutella flavored and pumpkin flavored ice cream with peanut butter sauce and hot fudge. It was a pretty good combo and pretty nice ice cream. I've been going to this spot for ice cream for years when it was originally called grannies and I have continued to get my ice cream here since it changed ownership. The service is good and sometimes terrific. The options available is amazing. All of the different types whether you're getting regular ice cream or soft serve or only eight or vegan plus their cakes and flying saucers, etc., is pretty terrific. My complaint is that every single time I buy the same cone in the same size with the same ice cream it's a different price. I've gotten a cone a few days ago. It was $10.80 two days later, it was $12 and change. I think that's an extreme amount of money also for an only eight with crunchies. Before that it was anywhere from seven or eight dollars, so I'm not sure why the price differential was so extreme. I will add that they also have candy which looks like it's homemade as well as chairs to sit outside and plenty of parking. read more

I've been wanting to go but during this crisis I took advantage of their curbside pick up. Olivia was the friendly young lady who answered the phone and the process was quick and easy. I took my daughter here to Granny's because I was very curious about the ice cream, homemade so of course we were full of expectations. The place was clean, marks on the floor to keep people 6 feet apart and staff were all wearing masks and were very nice which is all very much appreciated. There were so many flavors to pick from and we decided not to stick with our vegan diet for now. LOL. My daughter got peach and blueberry, I got toasted coconut and I think it was called chocolate crazy. The ice cream was so unbelievably rich that after a few bites we both couldn't really eat anymore, I finished 1/2 of mine and my daughter ate less than that. We got smalls but they were very big! I liked the coconut flavor but was not a fan of the chocolate. I'm a chocolate freak but this was just not doing it for me. The ice cream was rich and very sweet but lacking depth. My daughter had a similar impression. I'm still giving Granny's 4 stars because I'm not 100% sure that our lack of loving the ice cream was not due to the both of us being used to non dairy. Had a $10 gift certificate and was able to get a sundae with toppings for $10. It looked great, but I was expecting more, particularly since the store was so crowded. Going downhill rapidly. Used to have good counter service. Now, at least on weekends, the service is lazy and surly. And today hit the jackpot. First, no chocolate hard ice cream of any type. Keeping in mind that the two top flavors around here are vanilla and chocolate, that's not good. And in recent visits, most of multiple chocolate ice creams were peanut butter variations - something that many people are highly allergic to. But another big problem - most of the ice cream bin holders were empty, and supposedly, according to the surly woman with black hair at the counter, there was nothing in back even though the place would be open for several more hours. Add to this, when one of our party asked for a milk shake, same woman told us the machine was broken. One more thing; the sign with the current flavors suddenly went out of use in the last few weeks. We used to love this place. There would usually be a few flavors that we liked, and they would be very good. Sounds like the owners and chef have abandoned the place and left it in the hands of a few lazy kids. read more

Quality of the ice cream is still good as when it was Granny's. Not the potions you get pales in comparison to what it used to be. The mini cup used to pack and overflowing from the cup. How you barely get enough to fill the cup and they charge you $5 for it. As good as the ice cream is, it's not worth the price for what you get. read more

We got there and there was a long line which was a good sign. The pistachio and bites of pistachio, and they had my favorite pie flavor, key lime pie with bites of graham cracker crust and just the right amount of tart. Granny's is one of very few homemade ice cream places anywhere on Long Island, but my daughter is also currently keto slash not eating sugar for health reasons and has tried and hated Rebel Creamery, Halo Top. etc. In a desperate last-minute pre-doctor search, I found this on a map and saw in reviews there was keto-friendly ice cream. She grudgingly agreed to accompany me to get no sugar added or keto ice cream afterwards. Although I am a major ice cream aficionada (probably mentioned this before), my daughter is like a one-person Greek chorus and deems only a teensy tiny portion of all ice cream acceptable or even edible. I've gone to lengths to acquire scarce brands shipped (like Graeter's), she is 17 and unimpressed. This kid loves ice cream/froyo, but agrees to eat hardly any of it. One initial great thing is they have old-school, not overly fussy chocolates for sale, white and milk (and some confections). There are housemade chocolate turkeys for Thanksgiving (now a scarce find) and a bunch of other old-school ice cream parlor offerings. Flavors -- there is a fantastically diverse mix of ice cream parlor staples (vanilla/chocolate chip, cookie dough, etc), flavors you don't see all that often any more (chocolate cherry, blackberry chip, this reminds me I meant to look for rum raisin), and trend-focused stuff (peanut butter bacon IIRC, pumpkin donut, sweet potato with torched marshmallow). AND THEN I was super excited to find retro food flavors! Boo Berry! FUNNY BONES! I actually asked "is this funny bones like the cake?" and a lady ran over from the other side of the store and was like "oh my God! I love those! You have that?!" The only downside for us is that it's clear across the island from Babylon, but definitely worth the trip. We don't have a homemade ice cream place anywhere nearby off the top of my head - they all got edged out by Coldstones and Sweet Frogs that later closed. It is SO hard to find a place that has their OWN ice cream versus something made and shipped in, and there is SO much variety here! A guy who I think was the owner was there, and he was REALLY nice and didn't mind asking to try stuff but I committed to Boo Berry (after trying rainbow cookie and the bacon one) taste unseen because like all Gen Xers I will house a box of Frankenberry etc. Granny's is definitely a gem and part of a dying breed on Long Island of food places where stuff isn't pretentious or overpriced and is made by people with lots of experience. Back to my picky kid, who has tasted and tossed tons of premium ice cream, she *really* liked it, she had ZERO complaints. She noted that the texture is slightly different for keto or NSA flavors but that she didn't mind at all because it was extremely good. Even high-end keto ice cream you have to spend $100 online and it ALL crumbles and has terrible texture. Finding actually creamy keto options so relatively close was so cool, but I also see a lot of drives to Commack in our future. I wrote this lengthy review because whenever I visit a "been there forever" place, it drives home how us Long Islanders drove out shops run by experienced people, not twentysomethings, and now we're stuck with a ton of "style" over substance places where stuff is subpar and expensive. Other reviews didn't put me off but on that note, the place was clean (it's just not a mass-produced chain), I used the bathroom and it was also clean, the prices were reasonable, ALL the staples were there (dipped waffle bowls, BONGOS!, bonnet cones, flying saucers), the guy there was friendly and encouraged testing before committing, and so on. I honestly feel like these reviewers are used to trendy chains coming and going and forgot what a real pastel-tiled actually homemade mom and pop store is like. FOR SHAME, YOU GUYS. Great place, great ice cream! Owners are super nice and they have amazing classic and trendy flavors! They keep ahead of all the rest with original new flavors in their small batch choices. They also sell soft serve and are super clean, always see them cleaning the machines the way they are supposed to, a lot of places let that kinda stuff go and shows in the product. If you run an ice cream shop and want to do it right then come see their operation cause it's what it should be!
