This is intended to be a do-it-yourself experience. If you know how to ice fish I am sure you'll have a great time. If you don't know how, you may still have a good time depending on your attitude towards not catching any fish. I had an interesting afternoon trying something I had never done before. The staff where friendly enough and as helpful as they could be expected to be, in the middle of a frozen lake. WORST ice fishing experience i've ever had. Go to Lucky Sons next time. Their employees don't care and it was so unorganized. We e-mailed them many times because we had a Groupon with them, no answer. We finally reached them by phone and booked an evening because mornings were not available. We got there at 5 and they didn't have any rods left... 2 of our 4 person party brought their own. No rods, for ice fishing.... seriously? They set us up in teepees, NOT the cabins on website they promised. We paid online through groupon, but guess what, we were charged $25 as an extra sir-charge for no reason the second we got there... They also didn't let us know we needed chairs, so they supplied us with tiny three seaters that are a foot off the ground. Terribly uncomfortable, they couldn't even give us a lawn chair. They said we got lucky, once the chairs were gone, no more chairs. WHAT? So far there was NO MORE rods and a limited number of chairs too. Sounds organized. They promised us to re-open the iced holes and spoon out the ice. OOOPs no more spoons, and no one came for open the holes. We used the wood we HAD TO BUY to smash open the holes and our hands to fish out the ice. We froze because there was no strings to close the teepee tent and it was -17c out. We left the second their employee snowmobiled by at 6:30 and threw, yes THREW, lights threw our tee pee door and drove off without asking us how our horrible evening went. This experience was not as advertised. These guys are just out to make a quick buck. They are not cabins (which is what I thought I paid for as advertised), they are plastic tents. They ask for an additional $10 for propane heater, and do not provide wood stoves as advertised. FYI: there are no wood stoves for 2015 like you see in the pictures on Yelp. You have to pay to park as well. The weekend we went there were no bathrooms, claiming that the city locked the bathrooms at the park. Not great for girls or young kids that need to pee! Claimed that they ordered a port o potty ... for the next weekend. Young men driving around the ice in a pick up truck, more annoying then helpful. The "benches" promised in the huts were wood logs. The "rods" promised, were line and stick no rods at all. No bait or BBQ which we paid for via paypal prior to, but nothing there when we showed up. We made the best of the situation but will never go again. This is the most disorganized business ever. Several times this place was called, no answer machine, no answer, no response to e-mails. The previous reviewer is right about the Tarp and 4X4 because of the fact that if you go on their facebook page, you will see it instead of the promise cabins with woodstoves. If a company cannot respond to inquiries or provide any assistance, how are you assured that the ice you are fishing on is not going to crack and cause you to drown? I am also sure that they will make you sign a waiver as well. Do not be fooled with this company. It also has several names such as BlueMountain Activities, Ride on Rentals, Ice Fish Simcoe. If you are looking on who owns this business, his name is Shaun Talbot. I spent quite some time looking for information to have someone call me back, two photos numbers, no response. We had a large party coming and I had to make a last decision to cancel. I wish I can give a positive respond from this 'experience' so that the validity of post would be taken for granted. OK if you want to try ice fishing but don't expect too much. Huts were not available even if you come early. Be careful of the chimney from the wood stove. It's hot. My gloves got burned. Me and my wife's jacket got burned. I doubt if anybody caught any fish that day. read more

Don't waste your money. I'm fucking pissed. I bought a groupon for my dad for xmass. For a cabin rental for 12 people $25 for unlimited fire wood and bait. Rods included. It was a tarp held up by 4 4x4's. A square hole cut in the side to get in and out. No way to close it. It was only -6 and we were freezing. We had the take the youngest home after the first hour. We had four adults and 3 kids. Barely enough room to walk around. I was so embarrassed and my poor dad was so embarrassed. He tried to pay me back cause he felt so bad. I'm so glad some of my party canceled. We waited an hour for someone to come with firewood. He gave us a fire starter log and a handful of hardwood floor boards and base boards with paint on them. We asked for more and the next guy said there might not be more. Towards the end we got a few more small pieces. There were 3 buckets to sit on that we had to take turns. Asked three times for rods. Never got them. Had to walk back to the beach and down the next street to a store to buy bait. Store keeper chuckled when I told him what I was up to. But towards the end 3 different guys showed up to try and collect money for the firewood. 2 of them came at the same time and were right outside out shanty swearing like crack head truckers. We had 3 young kids in there. My brother in law had to go tell them to shut up.. I should have known when I looked at the website after I booked the groupon. The groupon said $89 for a $300 value. On the website it said $159.00. That was the only option. I called and asked what was so different about the ($300) package I bought and the package on your website. My friends and I booked a snowmobiling trip and we waited for almost 2 hours in the cold before finally someone showed up to tell us it will be another hour before the tour will start. We had other plans and the person there said they are not authorized to do a refund but somebody will contact us the next day. This never happened and I called them a number of times and emailed them and I still didn't get the refund. Just opened a complaint at the consumer protection of Ontario. read more

First of all swearing on a review shows the ignorance level of some people and lack of respect for a group of guys trying to make a living. I recently went with some friend on our first Ice fishing trip. Total was 4 guys. To have a good time, I would not recommend any more than 6 grown men. No kids unless there rough and tough kids who like to play in puddles. No Princesses only outdoor friendly ladies. Not sure if the other reviewer realized this, BUT IT'S WINTER......AND IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. For the rest of you that use common sense, dress warm as you are on a open frozen lake. This equals cold feet and lots of wind. I read some of the reviews and as a result we brought our own chairs, wood and minnows. One of the guys had their own rods. We got 3 other rods that were in rental condition(rough but working). We ended catching 2 white fish. They had an older Gentleman that was doing most of the organization in the parking lot. We had a 5pm to 9pm reserved and we arrived at 4pm. The older Gentleman was extreamly friendly and he got us in early. We joked around for a bit and he showed us a lake trout caught earlier that day that someone didn't want. The deal is that everyone is coming in at 4:30, so it can get chaotic around that time so pack some patience. It's about 500 ft from the parking lot to the huts. This is enough for four guys that are barely in shape to walk. One of the Workers that were running the sled pulled all of our gear to the hut. We blocked up the entrance of the hut with a chair and got the wood stove going. It was warm enough to take your winter jacket off. It turned into a blizzard outside, but it was great inside. Wet floors, so don't were boots that are not waterproof. The staff came by twice to see if we were okay. We were prepared and had enough to go a couple extra hours. Later in the evening as we lost sunlight and the staff came by with a light. Overall, everyone had a great time. There is LOTS OF ROOM FOR IMPROVMENT. As a suggestion, put the stove on a skid or a platform so that it is not sitting on the ice as someone is going to slip on that ice and really hurt themselves. Spend $20 on some wood and build some benches for each hut, you guys are making money at this thing, treat it with some respect. Lastly, most people are respectful to clean up for themselves, but it would be nice to have garbage cans around. People don't forget that you paid around $70/Flat and you get what you pay for. If you went with a different group you were going to pay $45 to $50 per person. To the Staff, job well done. I enjoyed myself and I can't wait to come back next year. read more

This is HUT rental, not cabin rental (unlike what the LivingSocial Coupon was saying). The huts are in tarp. Impossible to close the tarp door, so it's very cold inside. In many huts, the ''walls'' are not sealed to the ice, so again, the wind can come through and it's freezing. And all the tarp ''walls'' and door flap in the wind, so it's pretty noisy. There's nothing on the floor, so you're right on the ice. Again, freezing cold. There is a wood stove in the middle of the hut, but it's not enough to keep you warm. As it is directly put on the ice, the ice around it melts. So the floor in some huts is not flat (sinking in direction of the stove in the middle). You keep slipping. And it gets very messy and dirty with the melted ice, ashes, etc. Most huts have NO BENCH. So you end up trying to seat on a mini plastic Dollarama 3-foot-stool (provided). Very uncomfortable and unstable. Some huts have ONE bench (3 wood planks). So 4 of you can seat on it, while the others are on the stools ! And as the holes are at the perimeter of the hut, you're all back to back, facing your hole and the tarp ''wall'' of the hut. Not very convivial and friendly...!!! One third of the holes were closed. And no tool to reopen them. Most of the huts were dirty and messy. The guys in charge are students, not very helpful. You have to walk to their hut on the lake, then if you haven't stopped at the corner store on the way to the Minet's Point Park, you have to walk all the way back there to get your minnow's (bait). They don't explain you anything (gladly it wasn't our first ice fishing trip). Also there is NO washroom hut. So if you need to go, you have to walk all the way to the shore and to the park, where there are very dirty portable toilets. Very disappointed by the experience. Visited March 2014 read more

Agree with the other posters on this business - best to avoid! We booked a 1 hour snowmobile ride one Saturday afternoon at noon. We had also booked massages for after our snowmobile ride. They kept delaying the start time of the ride, first saying it would be 12:45, then 1pm, then 1:15pm, etc. We said we wouldn't be able to go if it was after 1:30pm. Well, by 1:30pm our noon ride hadn't left yet so we asked for a refund. They took down our information, but we didn't see the refund applied. We've called and sent emails but no one is getting back to us. They were not helpful on the day of the tour and certainly not helpful afterwards. Avoid avoid avoid! read more

This was advertised on Groupon so I decided to try it out. The Groupon ad advertised: In a Nutshell - Deluxe ice-fishing cabin comes equipped with fishing poles, pre-drilled holes, and a wood-burning stove. As seen in the other reviews, this was not an ice cabin. It was a stick shelter. We received a metal paddle with fishing line wrapped around it, not fishing poles, and the wood-burning stove was actually a propane heater. There was no floor which you would expect in a 'deluxe ice-fishing cabin' so the uneven ice caused our door to not shut. When an employee came around to check on everyone he tried to close it and gave up within seconds telling us we will need to shut it from the inside. Unfortunately being a deal on Groupon with an expiry date, we had to take a chance on the weather and reserve our spot in advance. We were there on a -29 day and the 'cabin' couldn't get warm with the door open, so our propane heater didn't do much for us. This heater was also another $20 on top of the price. Their website showed a picture of an actual shack on the ice, not a tent, along with a spot to buy wood for the stove. Clearly this is outdated. If you're wanting to book here I suggest you call and get some questions answered before booking online as this was definitely misleading. read more

This was a disaster. Purchased through a Groupon coupon they neglected to tell us that you pay extra for bait, parking and propane. There is limited parking and it is Pay & Display - which we did not know since the 1 sign was conveniently hidden at the back of the lot behind cars and snowbanks - we ended up getting a $20 parking ticket because of this. The staff was very unhelpful, gave little or no information both when I phoned and when we found the kiosk, didn't tell us how to ignite the propane heater, actually forgot to tell us we need a lighter, so we had to walk back to borrow one. Then the propane ran out halfway through our "trip". At this point we just packed up in disgust and left early. Hut #2 had so much standing water on the uneven ice, when we went to check the heater, my husband slipped and fell, knocking over the hot heater, which hit and burned my hand. The cold piece of metal with some line wound around it looked nothing like the tip-its in the photo - If I'd know they didn't really supply proper gear I'd had brought some. Then there is the issue of restroom facilities. Minets Point expects you to pay for parking but their public washroom is non-operational. The Port-a-Pottie (not sure who was responsible for this debacle) was filthy, overflowing, frozen and disgusting in every way. I don't have a problem with portable toilets but this was overused and not maintained - but what choice do you have - there is nothing else around. The people at the bait store make a killing on the minnows -sold by the bag, then because the fishing was lousy (non-existent actually - not even a bite) I had a full bag minus 2 minnows which I took back. No refund. Now they can turn around and sell it again! I purchased this as a gift for my hubby and it was an embarrassment. I would go so far as calling it false advertising due to the many omissions of information. Waste of money, time, energy . No stars today boys! read more

Ice Fish Simcoe had vouchers available for purchase annually. I bought mine in December 2011 for an ice fishing cabin hut rental for 12 people. DO NOT BUY THIS WAY! DO NOT BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT ONLINE OR BY PHONE! Every time I booked an appointment, this company would call to cancel and/or reschedule due to weather (which I understood in the beginning). for the next 2 years, I can't get an appointment due to weather. In 2014, I booked an appointment via email 3 months before the appointment date. They called me the night before to cancel like in the past. My voucher expired but was still valuable to them. I waited for a new appointment date for one week; nobody called or emailed until I left a few nasty voice mails, emails and text messages. Eric phone me back. He was on the phone with me for 15 minutes and wrote down my information. He said my appointment is booked for next week Sunday at 1:00 pm and that I will receive an email confirmation. I waited 5 days for an email but nothing. Sunday was approaching, and I did not want to travel that far to find out there's no appointment for that day or no hut available at that time. I phoned them for the next three days (voice mail box full, no reply by email, and no reply to texts). Shaun answers one day and asks me to phone Eric tomorrow. After many phone calls, Eric answers and does not remember booking my appointment last week. He said he cannot keep track of all of the notes he has been taking as his company received thousands of emails and phone calls daily! (How is that my problem? Why did he say I'm booked in?) He said he will tell Shaun to e-mail me the confirmation because my appointment is in 4 days. He wrote down my e-mail and repeated it to me so I know he wrote it down correctly.
