2019-08-04. Willow Beach Park. Georgina, ON. Large Park area with picnic tables and trees.

2019-08-04. Willow Beach Park. Georgina. We actually planned on going to Sibbald Point but at 11:00, the line up to give them $20 for parking was back up to Hwy 48. Can you believe that, people lining up in their cars to give the Province money! I had a mind to start my own line to collect, but I didn't have any parking spaces to sell. So they probably would have lynched me. Onto plan B, Willow Beach park. Located north and west of Sibbald Point, Willow Beach is right off the shores of Lake Simcoe. The bad news is, it's not much of a Beach. There is a large park, with a kids playground. There are two parking lots that flank the park. Parking is limited and paid by the hour, and is more expensive than Sibbald Point at $7/hr with a daily max of $35. You have to cross the street to get to the beach, and it's more of a pebble beach than a sand beach. The lake is still relatively clean despite allowing motorized vehicles, and you can still see the bottom clearly. The beach area is quite short, and even shorter when the water levels are high. Today, as much as 30 feet separated the bank from the waters in some spots. The pebbly beach did not deter many today. Being a long weekend for Canadians as well as over 30C (86F), many came flocking to the shores of Lake Simcoe seeking some respite from the heat. BBQ's were everywhere, and the smells filled your imagination as they tested your olfactory palette. Lamb, Beef, Chicken, and Pork were all in the air, spices of cumin and sweet marinades enough to make any mouth water and belly grumble. As with most of our beach outings, we skewer exclusively. Today, we had beef, pork, and chicken wings. Veggies included grilled zucchini and bell peppers. Salad was apple kale with a homemade vinaigrette. Fruits were watermelon, cantaloupe, red grapes, and sweet cherries. There are advantages to skewering, the main one being everything is cooked super fast. Less mess, no need for utensils, and easy clean up with minimal garbage are some others. The downfall to skewering is the amount of preparation required. Meats need to be marinated and cut into thin strips. Then there's the skewering itself; while not difficult, it's quite time consuming in preparing it the night before. The nice thing about this beach is that there are large shallow areas that are completely surrounded by large rocks creating a safe habitat for the really young ones. Right off grassy or sandy areas where you can set up camp! The water is only a bout a foot or so, so even those that can't walk yet can cool off. NEVER LEAVE BABIES ALONE UNATTENDED IN WATER REGARDLESS OF DEPTH! (Sorry, had to get that public message in). All in all it was a fantastic afternoon, good weather, good friends, good food, and a clean lake to play in. What a great way to spend a day. By beach standards, this place would really be 2 stars for me, but considering how clean the water is and the natural layout of the place, Mother Nature got it right, and for that I'm bumping them up to 3. The park portion is large with mature trees offering plenty of shade. Plenty of trash bins are scattered throughout, and there are even charcoalcoal disposal bins for your convenience to keep you responsible and everyone safe. 3 stars. If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

In June the water is cold but your body will adapt quickly on a warm day. Power boats aren't allowed in the roped off swimming area. There are picnic tables and a general store that sells fast food and souvenirs. The bathrooms are fairly clean with flush toilets, sinks and mirrors. The park also has change rooms. They offer educational sessions for children at certain times. The only thing keeping me from giving this provincial park 5 stars is the reservation process. Once you reserve a day pass, you can't get a refund if the weather forecast changes to cold or rainy and you can't even move your reservation to another date. So your money is lost. But if you don't reserve in advance for a Saturday or Sunday in the summer, there's a chance they will be full. The website doesn't give a price for seniors. There is a discount but it's well hidden.
