It was nothing short of a F****** disaster from the get go, we moved in and found cat litter in bedded into the carpets the carpets were not cleaned like they claimed they did every time somebody moved out. Our cable never worked we paid for multiple things we never utilized we went without washers and dryers for weeks on end they'd come fix it and it wouldn't be fixed and wed have to wait more weeks and constantly pester for help, which resulted in nothing but disrespect and aggression from their maintenance clown. Our AC broke in August and it took two weeks to fix the issue and the cooler they used let off more heat than cold air so they moved it to the back door while we were at work and left our back door open all day with nobody home. Another instance our toilet in the main bathroom would constantly leak and we said multiple times how it needed to be replaced and the guys argued with us over and over again until one morning we woke up walking on water literally, our whole downstairs was flooded with toilet water, we called the emergency number and got no response (not surprised) so had to clean up and run out for supplies. when i called in the morning i was told they would get there when they could so I waited all day in a apartment that smelt like mildew, for them to say no one could come out until the following afternoon to clean and sanitize the place so they pulled the carpet up a little and put fans there which just made the smell worse. the next day i went to work and came home the bathroom had flooded again and they had used decorative brand new towels and my clothes from the laundry room which were in the washer!!!!! The point is unless you want to be treated with contempt never be be heard pay out the ass don't go here!!! save yourself the hassle and time. a month before moving out our 3 month old puppy was attacked while my husband held her by an aggressive Pitbull the complex couldn't care less. then six months after leaving they claim we never paid a security deposit and they cant find it when i have the paperwork. ABSLOUTE CROOKS!! they pay people do false reviews for incentives don't be fooled and don't waste your time paying to live here. They do nothing to update apartments or appliances and at this point they need it. they should fire the fake maintenance men and find someone actually capable of performing simple handy man tasks. you pay for pool and gym amenities the pool is closed 60% of summer because they cant balance it and they cant keep it clean and don't enforce even basic rules. AVOID AT ALL COSTS…read more Quick version: Building was not "renovated" but only given a bad face lift. Maintenance is extremely understaffed and underpowered to fix your problems. You will pay ~$400 for "utilities" since they push the event space electricity bill on to the tenants (along with the other 12 line items charged as utilities). Long version: The building: the lobby and event spaces look great but as soon as you leave those public spaces things go down hill fast. You will find peeling paint, ripped flooring, hundreds of scuffs/dents, stained carpet and more through out the tenant's shared spaces. The apartments themselves are a mixed bag. My unit had a sewer gas leak coming from the kitchen sink I noticed in the first week that they would not fix, resorting to "its a 100 year old building" as their excuse after a full year of complaints. Later that same sink overflowed with other unit's sewer water (yes as bad as it sounds) leaving a half inch of standing "water" in my kitchen and living room. This happened at 1am and tried calling the emergency maintenance for over an hour with no response. The next morning, maintenance dragged their feet so it overflowed 2 more time before they showed up. No one seemed to care it had soaked through my floor and through the ceiling of their ballroom entrance. The building has so many hole in it that in the fall you will see tens of thousands of dead box elder beetles inside the building and twice that outside. No attempts to clean them up was made. There are piles of stuff everywhere from old projects. From kitchen equipment and construction material to straight up trash. No attempt to clean or even organize the mess in these areas. Utilities breakdown constantly. No AC for a few days happened multiple times, no hot water 3 days, no water at all for 2 days, washer/dryers staying down for months, tenant door access removals, elevators breaking down, ect. ect. ect. There was always something else down affecting the tenants. The price: My rent was ~$1300 for a 2bdrm but was always paying more than $1700 and sometimes more than $1800 per month. This is because they had literally 13 line items as utility charges. City sewer gas trash and water, in house trash service, common area cleaning, internet + cable (cannot get just one), property tax, parking, PDLW and service f (still don't know what those last 2 were). My electric bill was between $125 and $175 a month as a single occupant working full time. There is no meter for electricity water or gas so there is no way to monitor what goes into your bill. The management: the property manager (M.B.) always takes an adversarial approach adamantly arguing for the cheapest solution for the company. Often resorting to no solution and hiding behind vague wording in their 63 page leasing contract. Even when they are health code violations. No customer service at all, no wiggle room, and no escalation path given if asking for action above her pay grade. She did give out her supervisor's contact when pestered about it but it took 2 days of calling to finally get a response from that person. After the flooding it took 2 days of complaing to get any movement from them. Which would have been a room change to a smaller unit with no help in moving and the option of a prorated last month. Don't even consider breaking your lease as that's a $5k charge. Been a renter for 15 years and this is the absolute worst run building. Such a shame for this beautiful historic building.

They will do their best to make sure you know that this is not your home. You are there solely so they can take as much of your money as they can. Altair uses extremely predatory practices. Expect hidden fees. Expect rules to change on a whim. The lease agreement is chock-full of questionable at BEST clauses and provisions. Don't pay the non-refundable fee to see the lease. They will take as much money as they can from you, and the carefully worded, predatory lease agreement will enable them to do so without any repercussion "as per the lease agreement". You'll come to realize that the difference between a reasonable clause in the lease and a predatory one is often one word or sentence slapped on at the end of a long definition, or at the end of a section. Stay away. In our lovely modern era, the only consumer "protection" we as normal people seem to have is to warn others in reviews like this one, hoping those who come later don't get as screwed over as us. We have had nothing but grief at this place. Save your money, save your sanity. Just so you know before you waste your time; pet fees are ~100$ a month per pet, trash and other "shared" utilities come out to about 70$ a month- it fluctuates. The non-optional "internet package" is $150 a month. You cannot store anything on your balcony PERIOD. They do not give you alternative storage solutions either unless you want to buy a 100$ a month garage with a typically long waiting list. In the lease agreement, they can enter your home for any reason at any time, with or without your consent or knowledge before or after the fact. They will take as much of your security deposit as possible "as per the lease agreement", even if you do everything to the best of your ability.

Starting off strong with 2 days after moving in, my washer flooded the apartment. they were quick to replace it- management was great! And then they changed management, which seems like a usual thing for this complex. the new management is beyond terrible. I had a court case with a sex offender living in the apartments and being around my child. i brought my concerns to the apartment complex as it is against their lease for a sex offender to live there. i brought to their attention that their address was listed on the sex offender registry to prove he lived here with messages from him stating that as well. The lady in the office basically gave me a " what do you want me to do about it " response. After several times of going back and forth on this matter i asked who she reported too, to talk to someone higher than her about the issue- to which she refused and said " she didn't know who was above her and if anyone had a complaint about her, she handles it " The people the sex offender was residing with are still in the apartments as well and when i said hey he's still living here, they said they needed proof and the registry was not " proving anything " i said you have cameras, or i can take videos when i see him? and she responded with unless she physically sees him then they won't do anything- which is beyond absurd that you take no precautions or this issue seriously when it's stating in your lease that they cannot live here. Secondly, after that- apartment management has been repeatedly harassing with threatening to tow visitors cars specifically for my apartment on several occasion- stating they cannot park in my spot i've paid for but when they park in guest parking they tow their vehicles for not having a parking permit or registered to the apartment. The trash valet that i pay monthly for since this incident has happened, has picked and chosen when to take mine out- when i called the office about this issue as i had ring video footage of, she responded with " they didn't come that day " but i can see them grab my neighbors trash... I've called about my water heater being out and it took them 2 days to respond to come and fix it, 2 days of which i was without hot water. They also discuss leasing and tenant information with people/ family members who are not on the lease. The way this company has executed and handled this situation is digusting. Good place to live if you don't have kids to worry about, and don't have people who come visit you at your home. Another thing to add about them towing cars and not having an issue with towing my vehicles, or visitors vehicles. I went to the office about someone repeatedly parking in my paid parking spot. to which she did not call the tow company, but simply called the other tenant to move their vehicle. i solely believe this is in retaliation to me fighting with them about allowing a sex offender to stay here while it's against their leasing terms. not to mention if you would like to get ahold of the office during office hours, they pick and choose when to be there, and when to answer the phone. Right before this has happened i waited in the office for several hours during business hours to give them my rent check, and no one was there for the remaining of business hours. they tried to give me a late fee to which i said i had documented i had been there during open hours and no one was there to give it too, only then did they not press the issue for an added additional fee. your lights in your house will turn on and off, and when you bring this issue to their attention they do not respond

It's also next to literally everything you would need. Like great clips, message, cafe Rio and pizza! The lay out is perfect and the closests are huge. Also they are new so everything feels new especially the appliances! The staff has done great adjusting with the covid restrictions so even though they are a bit under staffed for how big a place this is they some how still pull all the necessities off. We've really enjoyed living here.
