Frey (sp?) cut my hair. I'm a fussy guy but he did it exactly the way I like it. I called the day before and was fortunate to have gotten squeezed in for next day. When we arrived we received friendly greetings from Peter and the staff. The shop was attractive well lit and clean . My girlfriend was with me and she also got a trim too. We're heading out of the country very soon so we're happy to get this done and pleased to look so well groomed, too. They'll be my regular stylist as long as I'm in the area. We got wash and blowouts so we could feel human again. I remember I came here last year and Fallon did a great job with my hair. Same now and equally as great. Marie and Alyse were our super friendly stylists and did a fantastic job! We have thick heads of hair which isn't easy to tame, but they knocked it out of the park and we left very happy campers. The vibe is very relaxed and down to earth which we love. A great big thank you to Marie, Alyse, Nate at the front desk and Pete the owner I believe, who were all awesome. Ok, no frills salon. Service was quick (I am used to close to an hour for women's cuts but this was maybe half an hour). Everything just was ok- super quick cut and style, probably won't go back since there are many options in Rhinebeck but on the other hand, this one is the most affordable for a women's cut. The cut was fine but I just get my hair cut so rarely I would I like it to be a little nicer experience. read more

This is a great little salon nestled at the main intersection in town. I just moved to town in August 2018, and was on the hunt for a good stylist. My stylist, Frey, does wonders for my thick, wavy, unruly hair, that I usually throw up in a bun. He uses all organic products and ensures you're happy before you walk out the door. I recently moved to Rhinebeck from Long Island. I have worn my hair short for over 20 years and the same person had been cutting my hair for the last 12 years. I had 1 not so great haircut at another salon that was recommended to me. I saw a picture of a short haircut similar to how I wear my hair on Iconic's Facebook page that was credited to Marie. Great experience both times with Chivonne at Iconic. Came here looking for a better alternative to Allure which I had been to twice. Allure, overpriced & not worth it - though they think they are. Too many self important women, hairdressers and customers alike. Hair is tricky and I, like many others, bought into the idea that more $$ means better service, better quality. So glad that Iconic proves this wrong! Got a fabulous cut, 1 hr, for $35 (without tip) with Chivonne. Comparison with Allure? $65 for 20 mins and waited for 40 mins. Went in the middle of the day, and got immediate service from very professional yet laid-back staff. My stylist gave me one of the best cuts I've had in a few years, and we enjoyed a pleasant on and off conversation during the cut. Very strange and uncomfortable experience at Iconic Hair. We recently moved to the area and were in search of a new hair salon. The reviews seemed great for this place so we decided to try it out. Upon calling to make the appointment I told the woman on the phone that my boyfriend has long hair that is curly/wavy and he would prefer someone who has experience with long cuts and styles. The woman on the phone basically did not care to hear me out and kept talking over me stating available times. When we finally agreed on a time, I asked her which hair dresser would be cutting his hair and the response I got was "who ever's available when your boyfriend walks in". I should have known then that they weren't caring to respond to our needs or build a customer relationship. When we walked in the gentleman my boyfriend was told to go to was surprisingly old for a hair dresser, which typically wouldn't bother us only once he started speaking we knew right away he hadn't been educated in the practice for a veryyyyy long time. He refused to wash my boyfriends hair prior to cutting, just roughly dry cut a few inches off of the perimeter. Didn't ask where he parts it, no layering, no styling, no breakage trimmed out of the inside. I even had to convince him to use both shampoo AND conditioner when washing. Again, he has LONG curly hair!!! Why would you not condition that !?!? But that wasn't even the worst part. What made us the most uneasy was the woman on the phone hysterically screaming and crying in the back room about her personal life throughout the entire haircut. We can definitely say that we won't be revisiting iconic hair. read more

I went here to have my hair colored before my friend's wedding and the results were horrible. I've been coming here a long time to have my hair cut, which I've never had an issue with, but after my experience with their coloring I will not be back. DO NOT go here if you want balayage/ombré/natural hair coloring done. I called ahead and explained what I wanted done on the phone, then explained it to the colorist at the appointment, and was assured both times it was something they could handle. In the end I spent $200 to have my hair badly botched 24hrs before my friend's wedding. My hair literally looked like it had zebra stripes (they gave me stark blonde foil hi-lights on my medium brown hair that weren't blended at all when I had asked for very natural ombré balayage hi-lights). The execution was so bad you could see the choppy foil lines all over my head. I came back the next day (the morning of the wedding) desperately hoping they could do something to fix it and the only way they knew how to do so was to bleach out almost my entire head blonde. Now my hair is horribly damaged, and I'm going to have to wait a long time for it to grow out so I can fix it. read more

I really like the folks at Iconic. I've been here six times and had four different hairstylists. They aren't chatty or intrusive but they are pleasant and they always do a very careful job. They listen to my requests and ask questions to make sure they get what I'm saying. I always walk away with that "I wish I had a big night planned 'cause I'm looking' way better than usual" feeling. Most recently Mustafa cut my hair and I thought he did a great job. Nice guy. Clearly a perfectionist. Which is what you want when someone's cutting your hair, am I right? Cost for ladies is $30 which ain't bad around here. Edit: As of 2017, the price went up to $45. Really, a 50% increase? I'm disappointed. read more

I went for the first time to get my hair cut. A women cut my hair. She had very long nails. At first I thought it was a good hair cut because she dried it well and it was fluffed up. When I got home and looked at it, it was clearly longer on one side and kind of chopped on the other side. My husband even noticed it. So I had to end up going somewhere else a week later to get fixed. I had paid forty bucks there and another $23 bucks somewhere else to get it fixed. So needless to say, I'm never going back to Iconic and quite frankly, getting tired of paying high prices for haircuts that are not worth it. read more

Marie is AMAZING! She bleached/dyed my hair from dark blonde to silver-lavender and I'm thrilled by how it looks. It's even better than I could have imagined. I cannot say enough good things about this salon. It's like they took all the best parts of a barbershop and regular salon and made Iconic. It's more laidback than an upscale place, and less talkative, akin to most barbers, but they welcome *everybody* and the work these folks do with cut and color is phenomenal. Sophia is my stylist. She's professional and comfortable with chatting about interesting topics or just allowing you to sit in silence if you don't feel like chatting. As far as the quality of the service, she is as good as anyone in a $65+ salon. She is careful and precise (I have short hair and am super anal about my neckline being clean and she does it perfectly) yet fast. I don't understand how she can be so efficient with time and yet not rush at all. Overall, I'd give her and Iconic 5 stars, separately and together. It's such a good value for the price that it will keep you coming back for regular maintenance, aka looking your best all the time. read more

Went to Iconic Hair on a whim to get a trim. I have short hair and having seen the stylist just finish a haircut for a woman with short hair I expected a good cut. Unfortunately the salon needs a new paint job, was not clean, and was not that good. The stylist that worked on my hair did not put a lot of time or effort into my cut and it took her 15 min at best. Honestly I expected a better cut for what they charged me. The employees are friendly but I would say it's meant more for men. The stylist just aren't good with female hair styling. Go to xanadu instead if you can. Iconic is not the place to be. read more

I came to Iconic hair with the hope for a trim. I have been going to the same Salon for 10+ years and was leery to get my hair cut elsewhere. I have thick, choppy short hair that I style a bit wildly. I read rave reviews of Iconic hair and expected it to at least work out alright. First off, I called the day before and made an appointment for the next day (specifically requesting not to have a barber cut my hair). When I showed up, they didn't have record of my appointment and only offered me their barber. They didn't apologize and made it seem as though I never called. I made the mistake of agreeing to get my hair cut. I asked for about a quarter off of the top of my hair and half off of the sides while keeping with the same cut. As the cut got shorter and shorter, it was evident that there was no turning back. I offered a photo at that point and received something totally opposite. It is likely the worst cut I've ever received. Now, I am writing this review as someone who always gets scissor cuts and never a buzz. My review is more indicative of the salon not listening to me and making me feel uncomfortable. read more

I live in Rhinebeck and I am a woman. I have medium short hair which I do not set or blow-dry. I simply wash it and wear it. Simple, right? All I wanted was a light trim. I went to Iconic and saw the sign: Men shampoo, cut and style $25. Women shampoo, cut and style $40 +. I am living on a very limited income and so I asked if I could have a simple trim, just like a man, for $25. They looked at me and then away and then ignored me. They did not say yes, or no. They simply did not acknowledge me. I found myself rather perplexed at the difference between the prices, but even more perplexed at their nastiness. Eventually one of the stylists turned to me and said I should , "go to the mall." The receptionist was a nice young man with long, thick hair down past his shoulders. I asked him why it should be twice the amount to cut my hair? No answer. Too bad. I would have been a steady, local customer, with many friends as I live and work in Rhinebeck. read more

I am only writing this post as a warning to others... If you are looking for a good haircut from a stylist that knows how to cut hair, DO NOT GO TO ICONIC HAIR! I went in to get a haircut because they were the only salon open in Rhinebeck (it was the day before memorial day), and it was a terrible mistake. The gentleman that cut my hair was an older man, and I would not recommend his services to anyone. The experience of going to their salon was like being on a bad date, you know? I walked in and had a bad feeling, and then I sat down and as this guy started to cut my hair, I wanted to leave immediately. His station was filthy (something I didn't notice until I was sitting in his chair), his tools were scattered about, and he was very ambivalent about cutting my hair. I could tell immediately he didn't have any skill in cutting hair outside of a 'military boot camp' hairstyle capacity . Unfortunately for me, I was too polite to just pay him and leave right away (which I should have done). Instead, I got a terrible haircut. And, to be honest, I am just writing this review now because I assumed that after a couple weeks my hair would look 'ok', but I was wrong. I am not sure what he did, but my hair seems to be growing in a way that I have never seen before, and it still looks terrible (about a month later). So, as I said before, this is just a warning to people who are looking for a nice haircut in Rhinebeck, do not go here! read more
