The other party try to offer me $300 in cash and said he couldn't see my car behind his pickup truck mirror. I decided to go through insurance instead because I knew that amount wasn't going to be enough to cover the repair. Little had I know it was going to be complete headache when I was so 100% sure I wouldn't have been my fault. I didn't hear back from anyone and decided to check the status of my claim on and messaged MetLife on Twitter. In July 2020, I got a call and from Kennedy Brawner and they're finally working on the claim. It's now October 2020 and I received a letter from AAA (the other party's insurance) stating that they're insured is only partially at fault because they determined I exited while he was backing out which is completely untrue but it's his word against mine. I'm frustrated at MetLife and how they handled my claim. I can not get ahold of Kennedy through email or telephone. She has not reached out whatsoever. This is an absolute nightmare. At this rate I was better off taking the cash and paying the rest out of pocket so my insurance wouldn't go up.

It was installed in her 2001 Cadillac. At the time, my mother was 81 years old and on oxygen. She never drove it alone, but my sisters and I would sometimes take her shopping in it. She kept the car insured and registered primarily as a back-up in case one of her children's cars needed to be serviced. My mother died on July 14, 2017. I needed to have repairs done on my car the following week and, unfortunately, the battery on the Cadillac was dead. I called AAA to have it jumped, using my own membership. The man on the repair truck jumped the battery but stated that he did not think it would work for long; he believed there was a problem with the battery itself. He also stated that without the receipt, and if my mother did not have a current membership, AAA would not honor the 3 year warranty. I was able to produce the original receipt, but my mother had not renewed her AAA membership in October 2016 because she was no longer driving. About a week later, I tried to move the car and the battery was dead again. I called AAA headquarters and spoke to a very nice man in customer service. I explained the situation and was told that AAA would indeed honor the warranty. I am both the administrator of my mother's estate and have her power of attorney; I also reside at the same address that she did. Several days later, I called AAA to have the battery replaced. The dispatcher said they would not do it because it was in my mother's name, not mine. I asked to speak with her supervisor---a very rude and condescending young man who was infuriating. I asked him to tell me where I could find the policy on the receipt my mother signed, and he told me it wasn't there, but I could find the policy on their website. (I guess he thinks that my 80+ year old mother would have the computer skills to do that kind of research!). He tried to refer me to their customer service headquarters which, of course, was closed at the time. I tried to tell him that customer service had already told me they would honor the warranty so I did not see the point. Both my mother and I have been AAA members for 20 years (card copies enclosed); in fact, my mother frequently purchased and gave AAA memberships to her children and grandchildren as gifts. I think she would be horrified to know that the company lacks integrity. On Friday, as a result of one of my complaints, I received a call from a woman named Laurie from AAA headquarters. As an act of "good faith" she offered to mail me a check for half the price of the battery; I declined her offer. In addition to the loss of the money, I do not have the time or the energy to arrange for purchasing another battery and then trying to find someone else to come install it and dispose of the bad one. My brother died 11 days after my mother and I am struggling under the weight of settling both of their affairs, as well as maintaining my own. I also work full-time. Apparently, AAA does not care about their members, especially the dead ones. They stand to lose at least 8 memberships in my immediate family if they don't step up and do the right thing. I am enormously disappointed in them. Moral of this story: please tell your elderly relatives NOT to buy car batteries from AAA or you may find yourself in the mess I am in.
