Terrible car insurance company. Avoid at all cost. I was in a minor fender bender in May 2020. I was exiting my driveway at work and was at a stop when a vehicle that was parallel parked back into my right fender. The other party try to offer me $300 in cash and said he couldn't see my car behind his pickup truck mirror. I decided to go through insurance instead because I knew that amount wasn't going to be enough to cover the repair. Little had I know it was going to be complete headache when I was so 100% sure I wouldn't have been my fault. I didn't hear back from anyone and decided to check the status of my claim on and messaged MetLife on Twitter. In July 2020, I got a call and from Kennedy Brawner and they're finally working on the claim. It's now October 2020 and I received a letter from AAA (the other party's insurance) stating that they're insured is only partially at fault because they determined I exited while he was backing out which is completely untrue but it's his word against mine. I'm frustrated at MetLife and how they handled my claim. I can not get ahold of Kennedy through email or telephone. She has not reached out whatsoever. This is an absolute nightmare. At this rate I was better off taking the cash and paying the rest out of pocket so my insurance wouldn't go up. read more

I don't have issues with the customer service I've experienced. I've spoken to some polite and helpful folks with only one exception to that (my workplace randomly canceled payroll deduction and I received no warning from them or Metlife until my policy had effectively been canceled too. The customer service rep told me I should check to make sure I was receiving my mail instead of arguing for my policy back.) My issue is with the backward and inconvenient way their billing is set up. I only have Metlife Auto, but this will be my first and last year with them. Metlife told me they absolutely do not offer monthly billing unless it was autopay and paperless. I, of course, don't mind paperless - in fact, I prefer it! But autopay should never be a requirement to be billed monthly. They expected me to pay $600+ all at once vs. that amount over 8 months, but demanded I set up autopay or pay the $600 within two weeks. In 2019, manual monthly payments online should be the standard. After experiencing these things, I'm concerned about what would happen if I ever needed to actually use the insurance. read more

NOT a good company to have your home & auto with. My wife passed away in June and I canceled her auto insurance out, data enter screw up at the corporate office. They tried billing me for a additional three months. I refused to pay, my agent in Pawtucket fix the bill but Met went and turned me in to a Credit Collection agency in Norwood MA for $11.28. So now were going to canceling our home owners after over fifty years of insurance. My Mom and Dad used Metropolitan since the mid fifty's for insurance. It's called poor customer service. I called to cancel my auto insurance through MetLife and the rep said they will be refunding me my amount for the upcoming month since I cancelled on that day. A month go by and I got a mail that states I owe them 19 dollars. Then they sent it to the collection the month after. Would not recommend. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Initially they have attractive money-saving scheme for combining home and auto policies. After the house inspection (as far as I know no other company does it) they increase your premium. In our case they wanted us to change entire roof on the house. WHAT?! BTW roof is not perfect but has according to the expert another lifespan of at least 10 years. They cancelled our policy and we had to shop around again. I've made a complaint with Insurance Commissioner of MA and Attorney General. Now this so called "business" is sending me threats that I owe them money and they will send me to collections. Good luck with that! My subjective opinion is just put them on your "black list" without bothering - if it sounds to be too good it most likely is not true. The agent seemed to be in such a rush to sell it to me, he didn't give me time to read through any material and didn't even let me off the call till I got him a CTR document!! The customer service people are great and very nice but. I have now been in a number of accidents that aren't my fault at all. And rules 100% not my fault with video evidence too. My insurance company will not help me regain my the for filament of my luxury rent cost from the other fault party/insurer and will not help me collect the diminished value claim on my behalf. TERRIBLE customer service. I canceled my policy with them in May of 2015 when we bought a new car. Only to have them continue to charge me every month since, and automatically renew my policy without me agreeing to anything. I have not received anything via email or mail from them. Now when I have been trying to get my reimbursement check for over a month, they are making me run around in circles. 3 Times in the last month they told me it was canceled and my check would arrive within 5-10 business days. I call back after the 10 days, to be told it is still active and another payment has been taken from my account. please, do NOT choose metlife. they only care about taking your money, even if it is a car you do not own anymore. I fell victim to metlife as well. I had purchased homeowners insurance from them and in my policy it stated that if anything happened they would pay for me a place to stay while repairs are being made. On January 23rd there was an incident and my home was a total loss, as of today I have not been paid on my claim and I have been living out the truck of my car. I had to hire an attorney to help me, and the adjuster that was assigned my claim suddenly has amnesia and doesn't know anything about my claim. I have had a claim in as the contractor for several months. I have repeatedly called John White 401-428-5951 the adjuster and do not get a return call. The message on phone says it's John White and he will return call within 48 hours but has been more than 30 days since first call. Not sure I have correct number? I have been trying for 2 and a 1/2 months to get the back pay owed to me I have had to call and fight every step of the way to try and get something done. MetLife is now holding out on me over $25 charge to get my paperwork processed and sent back to them so I can get my money. I have been unable to make any payments I have had no money. Met Life cancelled our home owners policy after 3 claims. We have had the policy for 14 years. Two of the claims were claims that were out of our control, one was a windstorm that tore half of the roof off and the other was a robbery. The third was a claim for a hearing aid that was dropped in the toilet. The underwriter basically said "Sorry." Do not insure with Met Life for homeowners. Run away from this company! I have had to deal with them several times to cash in some life insurance policies, one to get my grandmother on Medicaid and then now for her funeral trust. This has been since June and I still haven't gotten everything worked out. I honestly don't think these people have a clue what is going on. I should not have to wait months just to get a check and get the funeral home paid! This is ridiculous! This is already a very rough time and having to go through this nonsense makes it that much worse. I never leave bad reviews but I hate seeing anyone else go through this. When it comes to billing, they're johnny on the spot. But when it comes to paying out....you can wait and jump through about a thousand hoops. I have had them for 6 years and in the last 4 years my insurance has went up ever year. My auto insurance went from 35.00 every 2 weeks out of my pay check and now it is 100.00 every 2 weeks. No accidents, violations or claims. Every time I call to talk to someone I get 5 different people on the phone and no answers, Today they switched my to 7 different people. I was rear-ended by someone that has MetLife auto trying to get my car fixed because of my work I can only drop it off on certain days but MetLife refuses to pay for a rental car so their customer service pretty much sucks and I'm not their customer, one of their customers rear ended me but I should be inconvenienced because of that and have to take off work because their customer who they take money from rear-ended me as far as I'm concerned if I could give them a negative star will be about five negative so if this is how they treat me I can't imagine their customers that they take money from is any different I would steer clear. WORST experience with an insurance company. Could never get ahold of my agent (Patrick Himes) when needed, and neither the website or app is user friendly. They tried to take double the amount of my quote on my first purchase, and it took a week for them to refund me. An agent I spoke with afterwards apologized, then offered my first month free. When I tried to pay my second month, another agent I spoke with would not accept my payment. Tried to pay online, and over the phone. My third month I tried to pay, they charged me for the first **free** month, the second month and the third month, AND raised my price. I highly recommend going with ANYONE other than this company. read more

I am taking care my my elderly mother and taking care if her finances. Her policy lapsed. I could not get a hold of any representative to help me, so I changed insurance companies. Metlife just sent me a bill, for coverage after the policy lapsed. I finally got a hold of someone who told me to send them a copy of the new policy, so the bill could be adjusted. The bill was never adjusted, and now my mother is still getting billed for services not rendered. I will be going to the Insurance commissioner over this. read more

I purchased Met Life PetFirst Insurance policy for my 2 dogs. I had just adopted my 5 month old puppy and he had some health issues, non of which were subsequently covered. 3 months later, today I received the final review letter telling me that not a single penny will be reimbursed. On July 3rd my puppy was horrifically killed by a neighbors kids setting off a rocket firework right at him. I reached out for the cost of emergency room visit and ultimately cremation to be covered. Death expenses were supposed to be covered. After torturous months of agonizing painful correspondences and endless requests for adoption papers, then prior medical records, then ...on and on and finally today they DENIED ALL CLAIMS. I called to get a FS-1 form sent to the DMV. I was told at first it would be there by 2:30, after that I spoke with a lady that stated she could expedite it. All the while my aunt is standing in the DMV waiting on it . I then call back at 2:45 and they tell me that they sent it check now of course it still not there and then they say check now it says it was sent at 2:57 still not there I speak with another lady named Nell ID 4##SITEL^K and she states that it cant be faxed or emailed. I explained to her that no one informed me of that. So she then tells me to tell the DMV to check the data base it is now 3:32 as Im typing and it still has not been received. When I first got my quote I was very excited at the low rate. I had them for almost six months they canceled my insurance without notifying me via email mail Etc. come to find out I had no insurance for 2 and 1/2 half weeks even after I made my payment which was 3 days late and most insurances give you a grace period. If you live in the state of Maryland it's absolutely a headache because they send it to the DMV and it's $150 and $7 a day that you don't have insurance. Their website that you have to pay your bill on is always updating can you can't access it to your convenience. If you're a busy person and forget to pay some bills unless you get a notification I would not go with this insurance company. even after calling customer service to explain my issue and ask to speak to a supervisor they were not available but they said they would call me back but never did. read more

Nothing but problems since I moved. My address never got updated so the docs were constantly being sent to the old address. When I moved I added renter's insurance. My new address was on certain parts of the policy and my old address was on others. Got a new car in August. I called and asked my old car be removed and for them to add the new car. They sent me docs with the new car. I have been calling and requesting docs for the past month to no avail. I called last week and the rep, whom I can hardly understand, mentions the old car again. I would give 0 stars if I could. This company has continuously tried to screw me over after their insured hit my car while it was parked in my driveway. I've had to try to reach out to them. Jeff Ihrke told me last Monday (8/24/2020) that the guy who handles settlements was out for the week and couldn't give me info until this week. Come to find out they did the settlement the following Thursday (8/27/2020). No one told me until I called on Friday (8/28/2020) after I was advised to get a lawyer. The claims rep told me that they had in fact come up with a settlement and told me I was actually supposed to talk to a Sydnee Smith. I then got in touch with her and she said I would be getting a total loss package. That was supposed to come in yesterday (09/01/2020). It never came so I had to get in touch with her again and she said it was actually supposed to be today (09/02/2020). My neighbors who were also hit while their vehicle was parked, were told the reason it was taking so long was because they weren't sure the other party was at fault. WE WERE ALL PARKED. I even sent pictures of the skids from their insureds mustang. He hit their car so hard, it rebounded off the apartment building and it shook the whole building. Pieces of their porch came off and it's concrete. Anyway, so fedex said my package was delivered even though it had the wrong address the entire time and I never got the package. I gave my address multiple times. Sydnee said to get in touch with Fedex and I can't do anything about it because I'm not the sender and fedex needs an account number. I prefer to give them ZERO stars. They are literally THE WORST company ever. I tried for 4 days to add a car to my policy, and could not get an agent (on line chat feature) or any response period. I used the email feature online to never get a response. Every time I called Metlife, they told me they couldn't find my policy, and if I had a MyDirect policy, I had to do everything online. This would not have been that bad had the website ACTUALLY WORKED. This is the worst company. Get a policy elsewhere. Been a customer for 4 years now, apparently they don't trust consumers and will do anything to make sure your paying every penny they can squeeze out of you. My car was hit that my husband usually drives, not sure what happen, we are now in a long process of having to be asked the same interrogation multiple times, and record us a thousand times to hear a story. We have to pay $500 deductible either way, since nobody else is involved. My husband will probably work at his job which is why we choose this insurance because is comes out of his check directly for at least another 30 years. Just do the math MetLife, if you pay this claim and we switch are you still going to get paid? Or will another insurance company because of hassle. Full disclosure my other car had a tree fall on top of it, funny how they didn't question us the first time, the car was only 10 months old. I got met through my work and thought I was getting a discount. 11 months in they send me a letter stating they haven't been charging enough and start taking 10x more money from me which caused me to get behind on other bills. I called multiple times only to be lied to and still cheated out of my own money. I dont understand why talking to different people would matter but it did. The first lady I talked to said I would get a refund. The second lady said no I dont know why she would say that. I would not recommend using this company. read more

I was paying for Metlife through work because I got a 10% discount, but I switched to another company and saved 800/year (1 car, no hx of car accidents etc...). I switched and all of a sudden I started getting text after text saying I had a bill I needed to pay and I needed to register on the metlife website to view it this was after my payments have been autopaid for 2+ years. I tried avoiding registering on website because it made no sense to register for a company I'm no longer paying, but I had no luck getting in touch with a customer service rep to find out exactly what bill I needed to pay by phone---- multiple calls to robots who said "I'm sorry, I cannot help you. Let me transfer you to someone who can." This statement was followed by a long hold time, only to be disconnected every time. So then I was forced to waste my time register on the website- only, when I finally manage to sign in, it there is nothing there- no bill, no documents, nada. Then why do I have multiple text messages saying that I owe them money?! Okay, so there is a different customer service number listed on the signed-in page, so I call it and get in touch with someone, who also says he cannot help me. SO he transfers me. Now I am on hold with a wait time greater than 30 minutes. So friggin annoying. Maybe if they didn't have shitty customer service I would have gotten over the 800 dollar rip off and not had time to leave this bad review. read more
