They removed wall paper, they prepped walls, they did loads of repairs for imperfections. They gave the walls 2 coats and did all of the trim. They did the doors and even the ceilings. This was the opposite of "not my job" service. It was, "I know this wasn't part of the scope of work, but I think we can make the cabinets look nicer if we paint them inside." "Is it ok if we do this extra work if we still finish in time?" No up-charge/change order: just lovely owning making the whole house look beautiful. I would hire Sanderson back in a heart beat. Not only is he trustworthy, but also his work ethic is admirable. He finished earlier than promised and did more work than what was ordered. Our house clearance team was 2 days late and Teamwork came in before they were done to start patching. Teamwork was done ahead of schedule to help me make up for their delay. In March a good friend of mine called me up and said that he found a good painter for me for the…read moreright price. He also recommended that I would do it right away. I called Josh and talked to him about my house that is huge and old; as I told him, I needed to repair the windows before the paint job could be completed. Josh said that he knew a carpenter who could do the windows and would paint the house after the repairs were done. As it turned out, I needed to get 27 windows fixed. So I had a bargain, a good carpenter who was ready to go up three stories to get my windows on the top floor and a painter who was going to paint my three-decker. Eventually, J&J came after all the repairs were completed and painted my house in 10 days. They were extremely efficient, professional, and pleasant to deal with. They answered my concerns by scraping, sanding, and caulking all surfaces. They used primer and good paint. Some of my neighbors came over to Josh to ask him whether he could paint their houses too. There was no drama, no mess. They told me in advance to inform other residents not to use the common area for a day or two. I definitely hope to hire them for inside jobs and recommend them for outside painting.

I had a great experience having John Kearns and Countryside repaint the exterior of our Somerville…read morethree-story. The pricing was clear and they checked about any additions beforehand. They kept the yard clean, with no smoking/music, and thorough site protection from lead while scraping. John painted a number of samples of our red siding colors on the house so we could find the match we liked, and also took care of matching the cream and blue colors. He and the crew also made some recommendations (like painting the downspouts and adjusting the deck color to match the rest of the house better), but didn't press if I decided differently. They also identified areas that needed wood repair (fascia, siding, porch base) and did those very nicely, again with clear pricing ranges up front. The couple times I wasn't happy with something, they fixed it right away. There was a tricky spot to reach on a 3rd floor dormer, and when I called it out they went back and got it. And the crew scraped/prepped a railing that I had initially not asked to be repainted, but they just included it in the repainting without charging extra. They aren't cheap, but the quality of work and communication is excellent. I won't hesitate to contact John again.

I initially went with the company that I had first contact with and because their bid was much lower based on square footage, but they came over Friday night to get a paint sample then called Saturday morning (scheduled to start Sat noon) to say that after seeing the place in person their bid was actually going to be almost twice as much. And they'd need to use cheap paint to keep their bid that low. I called Noe in a panic because when he came out to quote the job I felt like he was a good person. And he came through. Noe managed to shuffle jobs (thank you, summer storms!) to reassign multiple guys to my job on a Sunday to make sure they'd be done before I got on a plane to return to CA on Tuesday. Guillermo and Ivan were super courteous and sweet, and they were later joined by another person as well to finish up that night by 7pm (we were bracing for 9pm), and were completely done by noon Monday. Although we are renting out our place, we are keeping it so that we'll have the option to live in it again at some point if that works out, so we don't want to have it be poorly maintained. Noe was clear that he only uses quality products and used all Benjamin Moore paint in our place. It looks really great! And get this - after going out to pick up tools to take off the old bathroom fixtures, Noe and Guillermo even came back later on Monday to help us out with our bathroom fixtures (we'd ordered new ones that didn't arrive until that afternoon) because we were only in town for one week and didn't have any real tools here. I can't tell you how many grey hairs they kept me from sprouting! We'll definitely call Noe for any other jobs we have in the future - he plans to expand into cleaning as well as painting, so it'll be a one stop shop for us!

This also included replacing about 20 percent of the shingle siding to match the good that remained, plus certain trim in need. España Painting with Erwin at the helm, is what other service businesses should be. Professional, excellent communcation, prompt and detailed estimates, flexible with pricing options, and straight up about costs. Erwin is always open to questions and kept us informed. Justifiably proud of the work they do. Pricing is fair and competitive, and the quality is outstanding. He wants his work to last. The prep work- it is all about the prep as anyone will tell you- was thorough, and nearly dust-free. Down to bare wood or solid old finish, sanded, primed, and two coats, well-applied. No one can do this level of work without hiring and retaining excellent people, and Erwin clearly has. Victor and David were on-time, respectful of neighbors, generous with automobile covers, and did outstanding work at all levels (and floors!) Not just the painting, but the carpentry. (I have renovated several houses over my lifetime and his crew, the same as were painting, were as good as any I hired in over 40 years.) The painting was crisp and immaculate, The site was cleaned up daily and the inevitable impacts on we the occupants, was held to the absolute minimum. Our house looks as good as new and coming home gives us a little bounce. We heard of España Painting from at least two neighbors, and seeing their work made the decision for us. Even though their pricing was at the high end of the estimates we received, i chose them because…read moreof: their great reviews here and elsewhere; affiliation with WBUR public radio and Historic New England; their estimate was extremely detailed; and they work on a lot of old houses. I expected their attention to detail and customer service to be just as detailed as their estimate but they fell far short of meeting our expectations. If it weren't for me directing the painters each day, we would've had a number of areas that were either not painted at all, not properly prepped, or painted the wrong color. I gave one star because their painters did an acceptable job...but only because I had to manage them by myself. They needed direction, which the project manager Pete did not provide. And when he was here he never gave me a heads up; if I happened to notice Pete was here he would disappear before I could get outside to look at things with him. At the end of the job, even on the last day, he did not meet with us when punch list items should have been reviewed. They also refused to do the last bit of work we planned on. It was estimated separately because they were still discussing with us which floor sealer to use and another contractor had to install the gutters first before they came back to paint them. Pete, backed up by Nigel (the owner) decided they didn't want to work with us anymore because they "did not meet our expectations." Normally if a business admits to not meeting the expectations of their customer, they try to correct the problem to make the customer happy. In this case, apparently because we complained about the above issues as well as some damage to our antique hardware and floor, they dumped us with 1-2 days work left to do. (They didn't have to honor the second estimate because we hadn't paid a deposit yet - they hadn't billed us yet, though we technically had a verbal and written agreement via email). Lesson learned, if you arrange work on a separate estimate, be sure to pay the deposit so they are locked into finishing your job! When invoiced, they tried to charge us for work not done (I knew this because I was here everyday managing the job) so i had to ask them to reduce the bill by that amount. When I received the adjusted invoice, I asked for a discount due to our dismal experience, the amount of personal time I had to spend managing this project, as well as the damage that they did not address. The owner responded by threatening to have his lawyer put a lien on our house instead of first trying to make this right, which is the number one tenet of customer service. Incredibly disappointing and confusingly awful customer service. DO NOT HIRE THEM.
