To whom it may Concern, My name is Marc Wolf. Last Fall I…read morecontracted with Mike's Tile, alias MLL Tile and Stone Inc. to tile a new master bathroom for me. The contract was for estimating how much tile I needed for the job and labor only. Using MLL Tile's discount, I paid for all the materials personally at the point of purchase. The supplier of the materials was the Tile Shop in Brown Deer. When the job was appr oximately eighty percent finished, Mike decided that he could not afford to finish the job and packed up and never came back. At that point, I was forced to hire another tile contractor to finish the job. That added $750.00 to the job. When the new tile crew came to finish the job, they found that Mike's Tile had overestimated the amount of tile that would be needed. Luckily, The Tile Shop said they would take back any tile if the box was unopened. I had four boxes that were barely open and the Tile Shop said that they could not take that tile back, but that I had a $307.00 credit from the unopened boxes. I returned the unopened tile and was informed by the manager of The Tile Shop that the corporate office would send me a check. NOW HERE IS WHY I'M WRITING THIS LETTER The people at corporate for The Tile Shop explained that even though it was clear that I had paid for all the materials, they were forced to put the credit for $307.00 in an account for MLL Tile because I used his contractor discount. The rest of my story can be told by the letter that Mike's Tile wrote back as to why he is keeping the money. This letter is enclosed with this cover letter. Basically, he feels all the time he spent dodging this matter should be paid for with my credit. I'm writing this letter because I promised Mike of MLL that I would take the time to let everyone in the Milwaukee tile industry know. I've owned a small leather goods factory that I formed over fifty years ago. I'd like to think that honesty & integrity was part of why I am still in business today. I don't expect Mike to man up and make this matter right. I just wanted to let people know how I feel and also present Mike's side through his own words. Marc Wolf

Mike and his son came to my home to fill gaps in the grout on my tub/shower wall as well as replace…read morethe caulk around the tub. They did not come prepared with all the necessary materials and instead of replacing the white caulk, they convinced me to grout around the tub and seal it with silicone. After the work was done, I noticed that an area that needed to be grouted was missed. There was sloppy application and overuse of silicone. I spent the following day cleaning excessive grout haze and scratches from my tub as well as silicone from my faucet handles, bathroom walls and front door window. The silicone around the tub is now peeling off each time I clean the area. There was no consideration for keeping the work area or my home clean. I called Mike to explain my dissatisfaction with his work and that I need to have the job redone. I will not have Mike return to fix anything and I requested a partial refund of what I paid in order to compensate for the poor quality of his work and my additional expense to redo the job. Mike hung up on me. Very immature and unprofessional... true to the quality of work that was done. Very unprofessional experience overall.

We had used Mike for several small jobs before and that work was adequate - not award winning, but…read moreokay. This time we called him and told him we wanted a really nice job. He was supposed to tear out the old linoleum and then install the limestone over a heated floor mat. He said no problem and gave us quote, after first looking at the job. He assured us the work would be first rate. We specifically told him not to cut any of the tiles in the house, as we knew that would cause dust, from previous tile work we have had done. In fact, we said we did not want it cut even in the garage, as the dust would get on cars. We walked him through the job and how we wanted the moldings removed and then reinstalled back on top of the tiles once they were laid. He was surprised by that fact and said he usually did not do that. He usually just mortars up to the moldings while they are in place and leaves them half buried under the tile. We have seen that approach before and to our taste it does not look good. He eventually understood and agreed with us. We went back over how we wanted all of the linoleum removed as well. We wanted the new tiles bonded to concrete, not linoleum. This he wholeheartedly agreed with and said it was "no big deal, just a putty knife and a few minutes work." Mike then eventually reneged on installing the heated mat and said we needed to have that done by someone else. We grudgingly did so. Better to do it right than have someone reluctant do it, we thought. Mind you, he did not lower his price, but let that go. Next, I came home when they had half finished the work, only to be able to determine that they did not rip out all of the linoleum, as promised! Also, they had cut the tile inside the house and there was dust everywhere - including even inside the DVD drawers when you eject DVDs from the players! It was on everything! I called Mike and he gave a lame excuse about needing to cut the tiles inside because it had been raining outside and how he needed to leave the linoleum in place in order to taper the mortar over the heated mat. Something we discussed at the outset and said he could easily do - taper over the mat. He excuses were clearly lies. He said the tile on the linoleum would never come loose and we should not worry about it. He would warranty it for two years. Gee thanks! Mike then finished the rest of the job and the tiles are installed crooked, the mortar joints do not line up and the tiles are not level. It looks like a high school kid trying to do tile for the first time. However, that is not all! He threw away the moldings he removed and then had the audacity to say that not only he, but his employees heard us say that we wanted him to throw away the moldings, as we had selected, "fluted moldings and wanted to put those on ourselves." This really went above and beyond even his earlier lies about needing to leave the linoleum in place and cutting the tiles inside! For one thing, to this day, we do not even know what "fluted molding" is and we never considered replacing it. Mike then told us that if we order the correct tile for moldings he would install that at no charge and clean up the previous mess from cutting the tiles inside and would correct some of the crooked tiles and the off-center grout joints. We received the trim tiles and then tried calling Mike several times. He would not answer or return our calls. I would use other people's phones in order to get him to answer the calls. Eventually, he simply told us he would do nothing further and we woud have to do whatever we had to do. We have now had another tile guy look at it and he advises that we should not even consider taking out the old tiles now, as the whole job would basically have to be done over and it would be more work than it is worth. He said it is a shame that the work was done so shoddy. He will install the tile trim and we will have to live with it like that. My advice to you, do not even think of using this guy or this place! He also has been advertising under the services section of the local newspaper. He uses several telephone numbers and this one is his cell, he is also listed as Mike's tile and Stone. It is the same guy. Go anywhere else!

It is deeply troubling that this review was posted, given that Carpet Town has attempted to please…read moreMr. Mc Gee in multiple ways. A: If it was so "deeply troubling," perhaps your company should have done the job properly in the first place & not told half the story in your claims. My rebuttal includes the first sentence of most of her paragraphs. So in the words of Paul Harvey...I give you, "the rest of the story: CLAIM: He came in within a couple of weeks prior to his moving into his home... A: I was told this, "was not a problem," by the salesman, Tom, & install would be done on time. To save me money, Tom suggested he could have his "best guy in the city" do it for me; coincidentally one of CT's installers, or so I was told. CLAIM: His LVP was installed on September 25th 2019... A: And the carpeting on the 23rd. Darn right I called as the job wasn't finished! (See the picture with the carpeting laying over the LVP.) YOUR people did not complete the job when the LVP was installed. Further, YOUR guy did NOT come on Fri, Sept. 27th as you claim, he came on Monday, Sept. 30th & tried to fix it. I was told someone would come on Friday the 27th; they never showed, I called & was then told someone couldn't be there until AM of Mon, Sept. 30th. CT's rep didn't actually come until a week after she claims. When CT's rep's attempt to fix the floor didn't work he stated, " I don't know what the problem is." On Tue, Oct, 1st, he simply dropped off a cleaner outside our front door? Now they wanted ME to "fix" a bad product! That didn't work so I called the office again, the rep told me he would put in a claim which could take 4-6 weeks to square away. On Fri, Oct 4th, at 12:18pm I recd a call from the rep stating he may have found a remedy & asked if I'd be home. Later that day he came and finally fixed the LVP. I have a time-stamped picture taken! That is also when I asked him how the installers could leave as there was clearly something wrong. CT's rep said, "They don't really pay attention to that kind of thing. They simply come in and do the install." So...that will help in "clearing up" the actual timeline! CLAIM: Jonathan Werner, sales manager, called Mr. McGee on October 21st asking for the outstanding balance of $1,111.31 that he owed since the installation... A: Actually I called Mr. Werner who had to call ME back since he was not available. He was NOT calling to ask for the outstanding balance! Jonathan first offered to knock off the $111.31 to make it an even $1000. But as the job had not been completed on time, there are still outstanding issues (to this day,) & their screwing around required me to miss work days, a credit of just over $100 was a joke! Jonathan stated, "I will have to speak with the owner and get back to you." CLAIM: On October 30th, Wendy Werner, owner... (skip to last sentence) He agreed to call at 7am on Tuesday, November 5th. He never called... A: Actually, I did call at 7:32am on Nov 5th, and left a message on the voicemail. NO ONE ever got back to me. I was in a meeting all day in DeForest & for you intrepid readers, you'll find out in her next paragraph, I was involved in a car/ deer crash which totaled my truck. OH, and, Wendy, why are you suddenly referring to yourself in the third-person on your account? That's weird... CLAIM: ...On that day he mentioned for the first time that there might be a flaw in his carpeting.... A. This was NOT the first mention of issues with the carpet installation. I called & spoke with Tom on Mon, Sept. 23rd after the install as the seams in the carpeting were (and after 2 months, still are) very noticeable. In fact, Tom came out to look at the carpeting on the morning of Sept 24th! Wendy's facts are again, a bit lacking in accuracy. CLAIM: One week later, on November 18th, Wendy left a message... A: Actually Wendy called my wife at work & left a threatening message on her voice mail as well as mine. Despite her company still not standing behind their product/ installation, it wasn't worth taking CT to court over a few hundred dollars as they have already cost me more in wasted time. So they got their money! It is very sad when an owner of a company does not stand behind their service and their product, then only tells part of the story. Pictures: CLAIM: The LVP picture is before we made the effort of cleaning it. A: Yes...but like your business, you didn't complete the job; in this case, of looking at ALL of the pictures. See, I also posted a picture of the difference after the CT rep fixed a 4x4 section. But keep up the good work, Wendy... CLAIM: Carpeting picture shows some loose fibers. A: If Wendy would've sent someone out as Wendy said, Wendy would know that the "fibers" that are letting lose on one end. The other end is still attached to the base of the carpet meaning the carpeting is letting loose! Wendy just makes assumptions. Don't be a Wendy!

We just had vinyl take the place of the icky kitchen/ hallway carpet (who ever thought kitchen…read morecarpeting was an intelligent idea?!). We rent, and since we had the kitchen and hallway cleared for reorganizing and cleaning purposes we asked the landlord to have it replaced. We offered to check around for prices, making it easier on our very nice landlord and letting us find a pattern we liked at the same time. The salesman was helpful and gave a very close estimate to what the final cost actually ended up being. After the visit, they sent someone out to take the precise measurements so they could make the estimate. He was the silent "gets his work done and leaves" kind of guy. No complaints about him, just not very sociable. Today, two young men came to install the flooring. They were very polite and did a wonderful job with the installation. While working, they listened to their music with headphones instead of a blaring radio which was quite nice. They moved the refrigerator out of the way for us and put it back in place when they were done. It does cost $30 per appliance to have it moved, but the money is worth every penny; they ended up having to remove the handles as well as some of the door molding in order to get it through the door. Carpet Town does not charge for removal/ reinstallation of the shoe molding along the wall they have to take out during the installation. Some places do charge for this. Only one little complaint, not enough to knock off a star but worth mentioning: dudes, after all these generations of women NAGGING you to put the toilet seat down you have not figured out how to do this! I had to put it down... twice. Otherwise, very good service. They have done other work in this building over the years, and anyone who has lived here has loved the results... except for that icky kitchen carpet (but that's not Carpet Town's fault, that's just a bad idea on the buyer's end). Highly recommended.

Both installs went great too. The issue was that on our rental project, I received an email/text with a link for the remaining balance on the day project was completed. This was paid at time it was received. For our home, I did not receive this link (and was waiting). Project was completed on Thursday evening but on Monday received a phone call asking for payment and asked if they would send the invoice and I will pay it. Instead Debra Nowak sends a condescending email with a copy of the invoice and "according to the agreement that I agreed to pay at time of installation," and where to mail the check. I then called the store and asked for email/text to be sent with the link, which is was sent within 10 mins and paid in less than 2 minutes of it being received. It is not my fault that there is not a standard of procedure with Carpetland for collecting remaining balances and that apparently how you collect payment is different from project to project. It is not my fault that Debra apparently did not listen or understand when spoke on the phone asking for the link to be sent and then sent an unprofessional email. We had used Carpetland multiple times and had a good experience but this interaction with Debra really will make me rethink about returning to Carpetland in the future projects with our properties.

I called my contractor, who called carpet land.. he called me back saying they got behind on another job and would be here tomorrow ( this after taking a day off from work to be here for them), then at 7:30 that same night some guy is knocking at my door, says.. ' I'm here to put your floor in' .. I'm having dinner, with my girlfriend! I sent him away saying you're 12 hours late, come back tomorrow. the next day, two guys show up ( an hour late), neither can speak English, I let them in (had to take ANOTHER day off at work), they start installing, cutting and sawing and I'm like.. what the heck are they cutting with hack saws? I come to the kitchen to check on them and asked.. did you lay the vapor barrier? "no comprende senior" I'm like wow... I can't even communicate with these guys...after they left I inspected, as I walked across the floor I litterally bounced because of low spots. it sounded like I was walking on top of a drum. i inspected and found the ruined all the quarter round trim, cut with hack saws the bottom of to door frames free hand ( see pics) it looked like a 10 yr old did it. I called to complain and three days later they came back to re-install...I find out they hadn't prepped the conCrete floor under the new pvp floor (there where cracks and big low spots, diviots from pulling out concrete nails). they didn't cut angled pieces to fit up to the cabinets (tried to cover the joint with quarter round). the repeat install was a little better, but the damage was done on the door frames and quarter round. i wrote the owner, Dave Brown, to complain and don't even get a 'sorry about this, we'll fix it' reply.. no reply at all... obviously he doesn't give a crap. I wouldn't use this place again if they paid ME! Four vacation days, and a horrible install, results for a lot of money. Now, the whole thing needs to be done over by a company who cares about quality. check out the pics of what they did...then ask yourself.. do I want this in MY home, condo?
