Lots of fresh produce and of course if you are looking for Latin foods, this is it. Plenty of room here. The isle aren't single shopping buggy wide. There is a panderia and a hot food bar. The canned goods definitely will have what you need if looking to make an authentic dish. The deli / cafeteria area is super handy. I have eaten here quite a bit and for a quick good bite, in this particular area, it cant be beat. The sweets here are insane. Bad news for diabetic me. Don't be intimidated to walk in and visit. Wow, why did it take me so long to stop in here?! Thank you to all the other stores closed on Christmas that allowed me to stop here for some fresh meats to put in our brand new dehydrator we received today for Christmas! Wow. I had no idea that this gem was here and I had no idea that it was so big! Walking in, I was immediately taken with the huge selection of fresh produce. They have a wide variety of everything you would want- and a large variety of peppers for all of your cooking needs. They have a fantastic bakery case full of Latin American goodies. One thing that stood out to me was stuffed cheese bread. Talk about a must have! I also liked that they had a wide selection of neat looking cookies and snacks that I had never heard of, but looked delicious. They had this one thing that was a cookie sandwich filled with strawberry marshmallow. Although I was tempted, I didn't cave in, but I might have to go back and pick these up. As others have said, the meat section is incredible. If you are a fan of beef tongue, they have a whole pile of it. Go nuts. haha. One section of this market that I will definitely be trying in the future is the cafeteria. Here you can get Latin American hot dishes of all types and there is a nice area where you can sit and eat. Everything seemed well priced and the tables looked nice and clean. While this market isn't as lush with goodies as Ideal, I would definitely say that it's worth checking out, if you're in the area. read more

Like everything else in my life, the timing of finding this awesome new business could not have been worse. Just started the induction phase of Atkins and no carbs, fruit etc for this fat man. But can't blame the store for that. It's all on me (I'm going to blame it on The Girly, though). Anyway, while running errands on this fine Sunday morning, we made a slight detour to finally check this market out. When it comes to ethnic markets, the first thing I usually say is to not let the first look turn you away. That is NOT the case with La Morenita. It's open and clean and smells wonderful. Cruising the isles, we noticed that the produce was fresh and well stocked. I found some chiles I'd not grown so we had to get them. I even got one of the few commercial hot sauces I liked and for less than 2 bucks! There is just about everything you would ever need to make true Latin foods all in one store. What got my attention and really impressed me was their meat counter. From fresh cut meats to lots of marinated and pre-spiced meats for all your needs. And it's not like something you would get from Wal-mart...this is authentic spices made for Latin tastes. No white-washing here. Oh! and they have 3 different types of chicharones. We got the small cubes (it's on the diet!) and they were delicious. Salty, but not too salty, and very flavorful. They have a large food court with plenty of items from all over Latin America, and all at decent prices. Again, everything was so clean and shiny. The only sad part of the experience was going down their bakery isle. So many beautiful deserts and breads and none for fat-man. *Sniffle* I hadn't any cravings so far on this diet until I went down that isle. Now I'd mug a nun for one of their cream filled bear-claws. The 3 reasons this doesn't get a 5 star rating right off the bat is that: 1) I hate giving 5 stars until I've been to a place 3 times. 2) we were not able to try their food court and get an opinion of the foods. 3) I'm a grumpy old fat-man. I hope to rectify that 2nd one in about 4 months. Until then, please go support the store. It's nice, clean, inexpensive and we need more stores of this quality in New Orleans. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. I am beyond upset with the customer service! Yesterday I bought a tres leches cake for my grandpa's going away party. After driving an hour from La morenita to the north shore I show up to the party with a ROTTEN CAKE. This is beyond embarrassing especially because I was in charge of bringing the cake only to find rotten peaches and a bitter sour cake that is supposed to be sweet. I did not bring the cake back because I did not want to leave the party to drive an hour only to have my car and clothes reek of SPOILED MILK. I called only to have a cashier catch an attitude. I went today and when I walked in no one came up to me to ask me if I needed any help or assistance. THEY REFUSED TO REFUND ME DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DID NOT BRING A ROTTEN CAKE BACK THE NEXT DAY. It is not about the money but the fact that they did NOT believe me and thought that I was lying about the cake. If you ever step foot in the place I suggest you turn right around and go to another Latino supermarket. RUDE WORKERS AND ROTTEN CAKES!!! Si pudiera darles estrellas negativas, lo haría. ¡Estoy más que molesto con el servicio al cliente! Ayer compré una torta de tres leches para la fiesta de despedida de mi abuelo. Después de conducir una hora de La morenita a la Northshore me presento a la fiesta con un PASTEL PODRIDO. Esto es más allá de lo embarazoso especialmente porque yo estaba a cargo de traer el pastel sólo para encontrar duraznos podridos y un pastel amargo que se supone que es dulce. No he traído la torta de vuelta porque no quería dejar la fiesta para conducir una hora sólo para que mi coche y ropa apesta de LECHE PODRIDO. Llamé para que un cajero se pusiera de actitud. Fui hoy y cuando entré nadie se acercó a mí para preguntarme si necesitaba ayuda. No se trata del dinero, sino del hecho de que NO me creyeron y pensaron que estaba mintiendo sobre el pastel. This is a review on the food court only. SO GOOD. I got a fajita steak taco and a carnitas taco. The meat was delicious and the tortilla was super good, too. There is a condiment bar where you can add cilantro, pico, and different salsas to your food. I like that. I also ordered the corn in a cup. It was ok. The elote is way better. I want to try a quesadilla and one of the soups next time. Go get you some tacos!!! read more
