We weren't entirely used to high church liturgy but found that though the liturgy is high, the people are incredibly kind and down to earth. There is a genuine sense that the clergy truly care for everyone who walks through those doors and the community around them. A huge plus for us is the children's ministry. Our daughter has grown so much in the knowledge of God and is building a little community of her own with the other kids. We are so grateful for that. We were desperately looking for a community that wasn't just "church on Sunday and then go home." We wanted to build friendships and "do life" together with people who love God. Every seat is the best seat in the house, as the acoustics are extremely well-designed. 2 weeks ago I attended a service that changed the way I view women - Ed Harrell gave a sermon that describes Christianity in terms both the church and "world" can understand - as men and women completing the image of who "He" is. So to the extent that many women feel objectified - it is somewhat unfounded since they help us men reduce blind spots, and in the Old Testament (Deborah in the book of Judges) use their powers to judge, prophetize, and lead. Ed doesn't leave biblical references out and also helps regular people grasp how God's limitless giving works through women throughout the Bible and in our lives. I believe that women that attended that service were enabled to feel freedom to use the talents God gives them as well as reduce feelings of bondage in a world dominated by men, such as in other religions. So as to answer my confusion - "Who's the leader of the Christian household?" Ed left us with this: Ask ourselves these questions "how can we better encourage women to use their gift. Who is responsible to make sure they can speak out and not feel limited?" I risk sounding cliche, but when you leave with more questions than answers to an ongoing debate of mens' role in relationships you know you've been in the dark :) Hope to see more Yelpers here in the future.

As soon as we were settled down, we look for a Catholic Church where we would feel welcomed and peaceful. We searched, and finally, our daughter took me to St Catherine of Siena and we are so grateful to God and to her. We love it. In Houston, we were parishioners at Saint Mathew The Evangelist Catholic Church located in Hollister Road, for many, many years and, needles to say, we were very happy there. St Catherine of Siena is so beautiful, but the thing that we like the most, is Rev. Patrick Coakley's sermons. They are straight to the point and he tells it like it is. On our adult life, we have never, ever, as a couple, enjoyed and touched by other homilies, as we are now. He talks about current events and how we are behaving as human beings. He teaches us the gospel values and emphasizes that is never to late to straighten our lives. Little by little, we are becoming more involved in St Catherine of Siena's community outreach and mission. Deacon Jesse Casares was so helpful when he provided me with the application to become parishioners. I will never forget his welcoming smile and his joy. Gracias!! The choir is splendid and we enjoy the music, the lyrics and their voices. I thank God for leading us to our new catholic church in this beautiful Austin.

One of the things we missed the most when we moved. In all the churches we have been since, none can compare to St. Catherine's. Something just so magical about it. The wife and I recently attended a mass since we were in the area. It is still the same. The christmas decorations were just right. We were excited to now see a school on site and the expansion of the hall. The saddest part of the visit was not seeing Father Oliver. He is now in heaven. So many fond memories of him as well.

This is not a Roman Catholic Church The crucifix is almost…read morepaganistic. It offends me to my core. It depicts Jesus resurrecting from the cross which is completely false Jesus' body was taken off the cross and placed in a tomb where he resurrected three days later. For the size of the church I would expect a choir instead of a soloist. A big waste of a large space. The two priests offer one on one meetings, though when I made a request by email, it was completely ignored. Even a message back with an "I'm sorry, can it wait a few days?" Instead, no response at all. The other priest is just going through the motions. So, a narcissist and a clueless running a huge space in a non Catholic "Mass" This was all a turn off. We will not be back

The pastoral team? Incredible. Thomas is an amazing speaker and motivator. He's just a hoot and will make you both laugh and cry from the pulpit. Jill brings deep warmth and clarity. She is honestly the reason I joined the church. She helped me through a tough patch 11 or so years ago and I just adore her. Ben's passion and humor is contagious. And then there's Allen Hilton, who leads our "Courageous Conversations"--deep dives into the hard stuff that most churches avoid. I lovingly call him our resident pot-stirrer (and I mean that with the highest respect). He challenges us to think, listen, and grow. Covenant is a place where questions are welcomed, differences are embraced, and faith is lived out with joy and intention. Our youth program is phenomenal...the kind of place where kids are known, valued, and genuinely excited to show up. We have three Sunday services, and the church is alive all week long with vibrant small groups for every age and stage. Seriously, if you're breathing, there's a group for you. What's especially beautiful is how diverse we are in age and background. Many of our members didn't grow up Presbyterian, but felt deeply called to be part of what's happening here, both in Austin and globally. Our missions and outreach director, Whitney seriously ROCKS. She's always coming up with amazing ways we can better serve. This isn't about checking boxes. It's about belonging, growing, and serving together. Covenant is a church that meets people where they are and walks with them toward something greater. At first glance, this church might seem like the typical yuppie infested Sunday refuge, because a…read morelot of folks are dressed up and milling about with their families on the patio between services. The first few times I went to traditional services there, I confess that's what I thought. I liked the teaching, and people seemed friendly enough, though, so I stuck around long enough to really check it out. Here are some things that surprised me: 1) A contemporary service, ten45, meets in the modern building straight ahead, at guess what time? This service is worshipful and uplifting, with a relaxed and sincere vibe, modern style worship (rock band, video shorts, lyrics on screens, worship leader), and a fun kids' mini-lesson before the sermon. The senior pastor preaches the same sermon there as the traditional services, hopping around between them. He has a great sense of humor, while not straying from intelligent teaching. People tend to dress more casually at this service. It's my favorite. 2) The youth groups have a lot of kids and do a lot of stuff. If you have kids, they will probably like it. There's even an indoor gym. 3) The church is really involved in missions, in Austin and internationally. I don't just mean that they donate money. The members actually go places like downtown Austin to work with homeless kids, and churches and communities in Cuba and Africa. Church members have actually sponsored an entire community in Senegal through World Vision. 4) There are a lot of classes and groups that are open to anyone who wants to come, and people are nicer and more open than they seem at first, while wearing their Sunday best. 5) This church is huge. Four services on a Sunday kind of says it all.
