The prices are very good, but be sure that you're handy with tools and reading "how to" instructions. If you're good with that, then this is the right place for you! Who doesn't love IKEA? This is an easy location to get to right off the highway. On a Friday morning, it was quite busy. As a recovering organizing containers hoarder, this is a 'bad' place for me, there are so many different ways to get organize for your home. I am so please that I did not buy any new containers to take home. Follow the arrows if you want to wander around, if you already know what you want, just cut to the downstairs warehouse and grab it. The cafeteria is great, lots of choices for vegetarians or meat eaters. Prices are insanely cheap. If you want to take them away, you have to bring in your own take out boxes as they do not have anything for you to pack the food home. read more

I sure hope IKEA reads these because trying to get in touch with their customer service is an almost impossible task. And how do they not have an e-mail address on their website? What kind of mickey mouse operation are they running? If I could leave less than one star I would. My issue is with their delivery service; they cannot seem to deliver an order AT ALL. Trying to get through to someone is even worse than that. I ordered a couple of products two weeks ago to be delivered last Sunday. I waited and waited and finally got an e-mail saying delivery had failed. No phone call. I contacted the customer service number and after being on hold for 20 mins or so finally got to speak to someone. Apparently my phone number was wrong. We got that corrected and re-scheduled for Tuesday morning delivery, for which I took the morning off from work to be at home to accept the delivery. Once again, the delivery window comes and goes without no delivery and no phone call. I check the "Track My Orders" page and it is listed as having been delivered on Sunday! It takes me almost an hour to get through to someone again, and finally the person I got through to is able to supposedly sort things out (after another hour of explaining the situation and her calling around to make the arrangements). We arrange for another re-delivery for Saturday. Guess what? Delivery window comes and goes and AGAIN no delivery, no phone call, no e-mail. And of course when I try to call, they are closed, so now I have to wait until tomorrow to try to get a hold of someone and find out what happened this time and then probably arrange for YET ANOTHER delivery time which they will probably screw up AGAIN. read more

FUN FUN FUN! Who does like IKEA? Large parking lot and used to be crazy full and busy but due to Covid it's alright, Mondays are the best (not much people, not crowded, and no lines). Friday's and weekends are the worst as expected. They are not the best quality and some are not extremely durable but most works fine and still gives you a lot of options in a budget. If people complain about IKEA being expensive (a little at times), then you haven't seen other furniture stores. Some of their materials and colours are a bit tacky or harsh but in general they do fine. A couple colour and designs that quite surprised me. I was impressed. Their mattress and sheet covers are usually something I don't necessarily recommend though. Sure if you are tight on money yes, but if you want to invest a bit better long term or have a bad back, their mattress is not a good choice, period. Their sheets and pillow covers are fine but be picky. Their comforter covers are mostly pretty ugly (the solid colours are acceptable I guess). It's quite hard finding a staff there at times though. Food there is meh except for their meatballs. Washroom are generally clean and things are usually organized. read more

Brought my relatives from SoCal here for some great grub! They were looking at me as if I was crazy when I told them we're heading to IKEA to eat HAHAHAHA! The US society (and ours to an extent) has tricked my relatives in thinking that you need to go somewhere fancy for food. Fick that Shut. I'm from Sweden and all we need for a great meal are our close ones and some food. The IKEA restaurant is located within the IKEA store. You don't need to go furniture shopping to eat here. If I lived near an IKEA, I would visit the restaurant regularly because the food is so yummy and I am addicted to the meatballs. The great thing about the restaurant is that the food is really good, the portion sizes are huge, and the prices are cheap. That right there is the food trifecta if I ever saw one! No, this is not a fancy joint; in fact, it is set up in a cafeteria style layout. You wait in line, pick what you want along the line, and pay for it, and then carry it to your table. They ask that you bus your table and stack your dirty items when you are done to help keep the costs down, though a lot of time staff will come by and pick things up, if they aren't busy. Now for the food! Of course the most popular meal is their Swedish Meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingon berries. This meal is $5.99. You get 15 delicious meatballs!!! They also have BBQ ribs, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and a bunch of other things depending on the day. I helped them break that mold of needing to go to some uptown restaurant for food. Seems likes a lot of people need to do the same nowadays... Hope some of you readers will try it out and enjoy it as much as I did! read more

Warning: count your balls!!! Decided to swing by the cafe for some meatballs and mashed taters. We ordered two plates of 15 meatballs each and the girl behind the counter started scooping meatballs. She did so vigorously and quickly. Anxious to dive into the Swedish delicacy, we rushed to the cashier to pay. The cashier looked at our tray and said one plate would be charged for 20 meatballs while the plate would be charged for 15. We were dumbfounded and explained we both ordered 15 meatballs. She then counted our balls *out loud* and stated one plate had 18 meatballs. She rudely dismissed our claims then insisted on charging one plate for 20 meatballs and told us to go back to the counter and get 2 more meatballs. WTF? ".... hmmm, how about you charge me for 15 (like I ordered) and I leave 3 meatballs on your counter?" The line behind us was growing and we decided there was no reasoning with the cashier, she was determined to overcharge us. We paid the extra $1 and declined to get out 2 meatballs due us (I mean, who needs more than 15 meatballs anyway?). On our way out, we stopped at the customer service kiosk and wrote a lengthy comment about our experience. I know it's petty to argue over such a small amount of money but it's the principle, folks. If it were self-serve, I could understand her point. But it's not. I didn't choose to have 18 meatballs on my plate. While I love IKEA for all of its storage solutions, I must ding it one star for this experience. Next time, I will be ball counting. read more

Unless you just arrived from North Korea, you probably don't need me to tell you about IKEA. I mean, they've got one in Riyadh now. There are TWO in the Dominican Republic. They're everywhere. So I will use this space instead to rant about the lack of public transit options to either of the IKEA stores in Metro Vancouver. In my opinion, this is both Translink's and IKEA's fault. I understand that IKEA needs a big space and therefore they often go for low-rent property on the outskirts of town, hence industrial Richmond and the no-man's-land between Coquitlam, New West, and the Fraser River. I also understand that most people who go to IKEA are probably leaving with big heavy boxes of Poängs, Lacks and Blergs, and are probably going to need a vehicle to cart their bounty of unassembled furniture back home. OK, I made up "Blerg" - but the other two are actual IKEA furniture names. HOWEVER. IKEA has a whole floor dedicated to small shopping basket items, like kitchenwares, candles, bedding, lamps, decoration, and lots of other things that could easily be carried in bags. Also, from my most recent visit, it seems like this area in the store is growing. And it would be really great if one could go visit IKEA to get some ideas and then come back later when ready to purchase. Better transportation would make this easier. The 177 bus used to stop right outside the Coquitlam store entrance, but for some reason Translink re-routed the bus and it no longer stops there. The 169 and a couple of other buses stop in front on Lougheed Highway Eastbound, but there is no Westbound stop within 200 meters of the store. I'm not lugging bags or maybe a small box uphill to Brunette so I can catch a bus that comes every 30 minutes. The 430 to the Richmond store leaves Bridgeport every 30 minutes, which means that a 1-hr trip can easily become a 1.5-hr trip if I miss the bus even by a couple of minutes. So here are some solutions I propose: IKEA Canada: lobby Translink to improve public transit options to your stores. You may have to provide a minor incentive, like paying for a bus shelter or something to that effect. I am sure that marketing studies will show that better transportation options will mean more customers. Also it will improve your green image, if that is a priority for you (and it should be). Translink: find a way to increase service to IKEA. How about a bus stop going Westbound on Lougheed Highway outside the Coquitlam store, for starters? Staggering bus schedules leaving Braid SkyTrain station would help too. In Richmond, could it be possible to have another bus swing by IKEA as part of its route, so as to double service in that area? Oh yeah and IKEA's great, they make cheap furniture that looks good and the cafeteria makes a decent cheap breakfast. read more

OK who isn't addicted to IKEA??? I know that I am. I come here for lunch and then a shop. You can get a decent sized lunch, which is also healthy, for a great price. Shopping here is an experience. You can't just go in and out, you MUST go from top to bottom and imagine what you can do to your house and how. Or at least that is how I shop at IKEA lol. It's not the best furniture but you just need to know what you are paying for. I recently purchased a couple of bookcases for $30 each. They look great but of course they aren't real wood. If I take great care of it they will last awhile and for $30, I am not going to be upset if they kick the bucket in a few years. More like a 3.5 star. Holy crap do I ever love this place, but it is a time sucker! I was there to buy a few necessities and a few hours later I was out of there ... of course that was after a meal in the IKEA "cafeteria" too - which was a GONG show ... one poor guy taking orders, one poor gal ringing orders through - during dinner time. I was at my wits end with some heavy stuff - barely getting them into the vehicle. It's like IKEA needs folks outside helping people to put the stuff in their cars. Although, I guess they figure you gotta get the stuff out of your car, so you gotta figure out how to get it IN your car too. A big plus that absolutely has no bearing on things is that the cafe has Mountain Dew! Got some severe attitude from a guy when asking casually about mattresses (not one for me - I personally would not buy an IKEA mattress - for whatever reason) - he talked to me like I was some moron who was bugging him while he as putting something together. It's an Ikea, and it's HUGE. I've never made it through the entire store. The cafeteria food here SUCKS. It saddens me to read reviews of people telling how good the food here is. It ISN'T good! But it's edible, and if you're in a hurry, and don't want to go down the block to get the super high quality stuff from Micky D's, then it'll have to do. Most of the stuff they sell is IMHO, overpriced and low quality. Too much particle board in almost everything they sell. They do have a few odds and ends that are pretty cool, but not much that is what I could call a good value for the money. If you're bored and have nothing better to do, drop in and spend an hour or a day here, buy a few things, and then move on to a place that majors on QUALITY instead of silly cheap (referring to the quality, not the price) stuff. read more

The boy and I decided to go on an Ikea adventure one day when I was in need of shelf pins for one of their book case (I ended up finding them in the "Spare Parts" vending machine down at returns, so neat!). We wandered around the whole store and got some ideas for decorating our new house. We even really liked a few couches, but as nice as they were I always remind myself how crappy Ikea furniture is. I always love going to ikea. It always seems like they are continuously trying to improve the layout of the store. It is always brightly lit and there is always so much to see and do. The price of the food at the food court has gone up though, which is a little disappointing as the quality and quantity has decreased a little, but I'm glad that the ice cream and the hotdogs downstairs is still the same. My wife and I bought a $1600 wardrobe at the Coquitlam IKEA. The product itself looked great and it was exactly what we were looking for. We picked up all of the pieces and payed for it at checkout... and this is where all of our excitement ended. We were overcharged by the cashier, who apparently double scanned an item on our cart. We then spent the next 15 minutes attempting to locate the mistake with the help of an employee. Once that was corrected, we walked over to the delivery service counter and provided our cart and receipt. That employee then determined that there was an item on our cart that wasn't scanned correctly. So again, we spent the next 30 minutes trying to find the mis-scanned item. In all, we wasted 45 minutes watching IKEA employees count, recount, and count again and again all of our 40+ items. There has to be a better way than to inconvenience the customer with incorrect scanning and repetitive counting. As frustrating as that was, the worst was yet to come. The delivery date was set. We were told that the delivery company (XPO logistics) would contact us with a delivery window on the day of delivery. They did not. Two XPO employees arrived at my house, walked around with wet and muddy shoes, delivered boxes that were soaking wet (pictures attached). I opened a few of the boxes and noticed that the water had soaked into the product and had warped sections of the fibreboard. When I informed the driver, he told us that we needed to take it up with IKEA if we weren't satisfied. So I took it up with IKEA. I explained the situation and the IKEA employee (unfortunately I can't remember her name, but she was awesome! She understood my frustration and was apologetic for the service we received) provided us with a complete product exchange, a delivery refund and offered us free assembly - which we accepted. However, once XPO logistics arrived to take away the water damaged product and assemble the wardrobe, more frustration ensued. The driver argued with me about taking opened product away (I opened the boxes to examine the product for water damage - which there was plenty of). The driver then informed me that he would not be assembling the wardrobe until I removed the crown moulding because he needed an extra 1.5 inches to account for levelling - which made absolutely no sense because the highest part of the wardrobe was 1.5cm lower than the crown moulding. The driver became argumentative, rude and disrespectful. So once again, I contacted IKEA to complain about this horrendous service. Their representative on the phone apologized and rescheduled a new crew from XPO to arrive two days later to install the wardrobe as promised. So again, I needed to spend a day waiting for installation. Thankfully, the second install crew was polite and respectful. They measured the space and immediately confirmed that the wardrobe would fit without any issues. They completed the assembly with great customer service. If XPO cannot provide consistently good service, then IKEA should not use them for their delivery/install provider. The way that they treat customers reflects directly on IKEA. One good experience out of three encounters with XPO employees is definitely not good enough. All in all, we wasted 3 days waiting for a product that should have been delivered correctly in one day. After this experience, I will not be purchasing anything from IKEA that will not fit in my car on the day of purchase. read more

Wednesday evening 23/8/12 - 6:30pm - Dinner time for many families visiting IKEA - No children's utensils - No lingonberry juice for children - Two large sections by windows blocked off and only tables that are available are dirty - No milk cartons in the cooler - Beer & other drink shelves empty(exc apple juice and sparkling cider) - 3 bottles of red wine remaining (lousy wine but that's another review for another day) - food (meatballs &fries) cold by the time we get plastic utensils for the kids - No diapers in family change room -we did bring our own, but empty dispenser just illustrates more of what was going on Manager was either absent or didn't care. Floors were dirty and the staff that was present was busy doing other things. The store itself was clean and organized and there were a lot of customers passing through. I was very disappointed over the cafeteria. This is not the first time this has been this way but strike three. read more

IKEA, it really is porn for yuppies isn't it? A specializer in selling "unique" cookie cutter furniture and accessories, i have completely decorated my flat with items purchased at Ikea. From my bed frame, to my entertainment center, to my decorative scented candles I am an Ikea addict and I'm not afraid to admit it. My excitement of the season is typically the catalogue, which I carefully review and plan my next improvement project. And at Ikea you always buy more than expected because they call these cool kitchy type stuff. One of the staff here assured us this is not the biggest Ikea ever, but for us it certainly looked that way. The store seemed to go on and on and on. We stopped here to eat in the cafeteria, which didn't disappoint. It is one of the cheapest places we ate in the Vancouver area, and tasted pretty good, considering it is a cafeteria. I got the veg quiche with vegetables on the side. It hit the spot. Then we had to go through the store oohing and ahing over all the gear we'd love to have, but don't have a place to put it. I worked right accross the street from Ikea Richmond for 5 years and I have to say that I prefer it to this one. Maybe it's because I knew the layout so well. Ikea Richmond is superior in the following ways: navigation- more shortcuts and access to elevators than Coquitlam, they really lock you into the cheese maze here. clearance centre- better deals in Richmond. They really know how to get rid of stuff, Coquitlam barely marks down a lot of product. staff- Some of the Coquitlam staff seem a little lazy and complacent, predomnantly those in the pick-up area-slooooooooow! read more

Today we went on the last day of their 99 cents meatball promotion. 99 cents... yes, i then proceeded to order a second plate. I like everything about IKEA 'cept one thing. If you're poor, broke, on a budget and need good looking furniture, IKEA is THE place to be. From $200 beds to $300 Sofas and $1.50 meals everything is budget priced. A lot of people have the misconception that IKEA furniture have poor quality, I beg to differ. Most of their products have gone through extensive stress/strain tests and have shown to last. However, what makes them fall apart is people's poor skills at assembly and disassembling the products. If you have never been to IKEA, it is one GIANT furniture showroom. Rooms with tiny square footage are carefully laid out to showcase their multipurpose furniture. It is perfect for the urban family to explore and gain inspiration. When you see something you like, simply write down the information down on the product tag and that will direct you to the warehouse where the item can be picked up. I sometimes just go there for the day with my camera and get inspired. Nothing is taboo. There are no signs that says "Please don't sleep on the beds" or "Please don't touch". Everything is meant to be touched, laid down on and tried. No staff will ever come bug you and ask "Do you need any help" unless you ask. The staff are easy to identify in their bright yellow polo. When you're hungry, grab a bite to eat at the Restaurant (yes, they have their own restaurant and child care centre). The food is super cheap and extremely filling. They even serve wine if you're so inclined. The food stations even have free baby bibs and microwaves to heat up formula. They have literally considered EVERYTHING. By the way, the restrooms have free diapers! Yea! I know! Furniture wise, grab one of their free catalogues. It will give you all the measurement and pricing information you need to plan out the space before you visit. Different IKEA locations some times have different promotions and pricing so if you're planning a big purchase it can be worth while to check out multiple stores. The getting it all home is my least favourite part as I do not have a vehicle. For small things I bring my reusable IKEA bag and that can be easily transported on transit. For large items if you have a truck or van it's usually not an issue. I've gotten most of my purchase home in a regular sedan. I was also able to get two Billy bookcases and a Besta shelf all home in a Smartcar. Because everything is flat packed it's perfectly manageable. However, if you're a dainty individual with no vehicle insight, they do offer delivery and will bring the items right to your suite. Same day delivery can be arranged for all items purchased by 3PM. Assembly, you will need basic tools. Phillips head screw driver will usually do it. To make numerous assemblies quicker, I highly recommend a electric/power screwdriver/drill. If any of the items require an Allen Key it is included. Read the instructions carefully and you should have no issues. I have to say, most IKEA furniture fall apart before their time because it wasn't assembled correctly the first time. Each part as been carefully designed/engineered to absorb and bear the weight. So if it wasn't assembled properly, it will fall apart without a doubt. Grab a handy friend to help you if needed. If you can't find exactly what you want, there are tons of resources out there to make IKEA stuff do what you want. Since their stuff is so modular you can essentially use them for parts. Speaking of parts, if you are missing parts to an old piece you can usually get it for free at Customer Service. So, overall, because I like in an expensive city with tiny condos I rate IKEA a 4. With the only reason for not getting a 5 being their locations are very remote for someone with no vehicle. Honestly it's not their fault, but it's just one of those things that makes me unhappy. read more

I love Ikea. There always seems to be a big sale on. Many things are already priced low. A lot of people complain that the furniture is cheap and of poor quality. I say that it depends on what you buy. When selecting dining room chairs there are some for $10 and others for $90. Don't be surprised if your $10 chair is durable. I tried the cafeteria for the first time, The chicken combo for $7.99 was a great deal. You get a large piece which is a breast, back and wing attached. It's fried in a thin batter. Nice and crispy. It comes with a choice of mashed potatoes or seasoned fries. I opted for the mashed with gravy which was a good thickness and tasted good. Also included in the combo is a side salad (only italian dressing available) and a drink which can be coffee, tea, or pop. read more

This place can get a little crazy at times. Check-out line ups can be a bit much too. We usually hit the AS IS section first just to check for the deals. Not that we are cheap, but at times there are great bargains to be had. The Food served there is excellent value, but I wish there was a bit more variety. The product mix speaks for itself. Normal IKEA stuff (inexpensive, good design, etc). Going during the week is definitely a much better experience than on a weekend/holiday. When I went, I saw...4 other customers. Their biggest downside: no-one actually works here. I saw 2 employees in the hour I was there; one on the floor (lighting department) and one at the checkout. This place was a ghost-town. If you've never tried their 99¢ dark chocolate bars, they're delicious. (nutritionally, they're slightly less good than Lindt, but just barely) This location seems to have more/consistent stock: the new IKEA in Richmond can have 10 units in stock one minute and none the next. If travelling via public transit, the bus back to the SkyTrain is across the street from the stop where you get dropped off (1000 Lougheed). If you're standing at the flag-polls, walk along the back of IKEA/Lougheed to the next traffic light. The stop is between it and the following traffic light (across the street from the PetSmart). Maybe it's just me, but it took me 3 trips to find it. read more

While this is not spectacularly well-built furniture, it sure does the trick at a fraction of the cost of most other fuplaces, and when in a pinch for a bookshelf, some extra dinner ware, or bedding (theirs is actually pretty decent), it always makes me glad that they opened one in Coquitlam. read more

iKea a place for quality inexpensive furniture. After visiting The Brick, United, Lazy Boy, Sandys, I decided on a memory foam Sultan Florenes from iKea, other memory foams were comparable at $3999.99, my memory foam including box was under $800. It sleeps so good, everyone at the crib is fighting to sleep on it! My only complaint is that I had to buy legs for the bed. I find that sometimes ESL is a factor when noting what comes in with the product. Short lines up for a Saturday evening, plus coffee refills. The price is right when it comes to SCANDINAVIAN designs on a budget. read more

As a transit traveling Vancouverite I find this Coquitlam location easier to travel to. As both ikeas go they do get stupid busy with aisle clogging crowds at peak times - that much is to be expected. However depending on why or what you seek it doesn't have to be too painful. Take the chaos out of your search - use their mobile version of their website in conjunction with their ios app. Their app and website don't work perfectly though so for some serious searching get yourself to a desktop computer like I did when identifying which bed frame, mattresses and linen were available. Of course the product specs were easier to read on the app and upon trying to locate a certain $4.99 fitted twin sheet I was easier able to show the ikea employee after running in circles unsuccessfully. Sadly if you forget their "loyalty card" you're hooped. I wish I remembered where I put mine. Since the mid-1990's I've purchased tall dressers, a large "Jerker" desk, secretary desk, glassware, coffee carafe, bathroom rug, big candles, floor lamps, wooden cutting boards, magnetic knife wall mount, pepper grinder, mirrors, throw rugs, plastic bag keepers, under the counter cupboard door mounted garbage, kitchen cooking utensils, fantastic glass containers for lunch transport, book cases, kitchen table, chairs, bed linen, and recently a daybed with new mattresses. And sometimes you can find secondhand off Craigslist what firsthand is still at Ikea - which is nice for too many reasons to name. read more
