    Power outage!
    Deb C.

Came here for a cooking class and unfortunately, the power went out just a few minutes in! Sylvia and the rest of the staff handled it so graciously though, giving everyone food to take home. We had drinks while we waited (delicious mango Italian soda for me and my friend; wine for others). We ate a delicious sample of mango chicken salad because that didn't require cooking, and then the next day, our fees were promptly refunded in full. So all in all, a lovely place to be when the power is on! Pro tip: if you've come with someone else, get there early so you can sit together!

One marvellous warehouse! One of the best places to shop for a variety of ingredients. This place carries a lot of artisan ingredients and local BC products. Warehouse shelves are organized in themes so that it's easy to find ingredients, tools & gadgets in making certain dishes nearby. They also keep a regular stock of certain lines of pots and pans including Le Creuset.

We shopped at the Gourmet Warehouse on Hastings, Vancouver last week in mid January 2025. The shop has a lot of merchandise indeei. Many specialized items together with prices to match. Among the many things we bought, the chocolate from Cachet, hazelnut milk chocolate from Belgium was a disappointment as it shows the bar of chocolate were full of hazelnut when in fact we can hardly find many. I have included photos to illustrate my point. Normally when I got similar hazelnut chocolate from regular supermarkets, London Drugs etc, I don't expect much. But to be listed in a specialist shop, one would expect a higher standard. This is not the case and specially at a higher price ! Absolutely disappointed.

Just before Mother's Day, I went to The Gourmet Warehouse to pick up some squid ink pasta for the dinner I was going to make. I thought they had excellent social distancing measures in place (markers on the ground--which people were abiding by--sanitizing carts, and having an employee at the door managing the number of customers entering the store at all times). However, if you're still uncomfortable with in-person shopping, you can order online and opt for curbside pickup. Since I only had one item on my list, I meant to be in and out of the store quickly...but it was my first time visiting and there was such a great selection of both local and specialty products! I couldn't resist browsing. I felt like a kid in a candy store! I thought the prices were affordable, but I can only really vouch for the package of pasta that I bought. It was $5 for 500 g, which made 3 healthy-sized portions of pasta for my Mother's Day meal, and there's still some leftover. All in all, I was very happy with my experience at The Gourmet Warehouse.

I got my mom and I the Pacific Plate: West Coast Seafood Mastery class for Christmas and it was a lovely experience for both of us! It wasn't a hands on cooking class but more of a demonstration. We had the freshest seafood from Skipper Otto and the experience was amazing!! We had crab salad and 2 full meals each of fresh seafood and they were very generous with their wine pours as well! I believe all of the different classes would be amazing to try and a super fun/different gift idea! Chef Deniz Tarakcioglu was great! We will be back again

Mini hot sauce. I want to try all.

Once I stepped into here, I totally forgot what I needed to buy. So many new things that I have never seen before. So fun and love it! I'm not meat lover but their hot sauce selection makes me cook those over summer time. Their cocktail and baking selection are awesome too.

We learned how to make paella and it was scrumptious!

This place is absolutely incredible! My team and I just hosted a cooking class for our clients at gourmet warehouse and we couldn't have asked for better service or food. We all loved the experience so much! Alan, Deniz, Esmeralda and Judy - THANK YOU!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE coming here. My daughter and I can set up camp here!! They have an amazing selection of different hot sauces from mild to Defcon 1!! If you are looking for something that is hard to find, chances are good you'll find it here OR they might be able to order it for you. The prices are not too competitive, so do your homework and check prices. Some things they carry are available elsewhere for much cheaper. On the flip side though, some things they carry that are available elsewhere are better priced here ... hahaha ... did that come out right? Either way ... this is a paradise for people who love to cook!!

From a consumer's point of view, it's kinda of hard to gauge pricing; though Rob was helpful, when you're talking about tens of thousands of dollars, it's best to shop around. For instance, I saw my dream machine, a commerical milkshake mixer to make 3 at a time---guess we're talking about a drive-thru style a la United States --- for $995. One note is the warranty is VOIDED if you use it for residential use; guess asking for the GST # or restaurant name would clear that up in a jiffy lol. Besides, one would want this as a write off but I digress. Walking in from 7th Ave. (there's also the Manitoba entrance) the non-equipment goodies will be on your right: dishware, uniforms, pots/pans, etc. To me, there are other places that are bigger and more selection than here. Either way, they're geared towards restaurants/bakeries.

If you are into kitchenware, cooking and baking, entertaining, or serviceware, or if you are in need of a hostess or housewarming gift, be forewarned. You will find what you need (or want) here, and you will probably pay top dollar for it. And you will do so gladly. They have mainstream kitchen gadgets along with very precise and specific baking and cooking tools, along with fabulous Asian ceramic bowls and dishes and chopsticks and more. Ramekins in every color? Check. Contemporary placemats? Check. Pots and cutlery and kitchen scales and kitchen gadgets that I don't even know what they do but they look cool so I feel is definitely should get them? Check, check and CHECK! They carry a lot of OXO merchandise (I always liked the ergonomic nature of this brand's products, and they last a long time), and yes, some of these items are available at HomeSense at half the price. But they also have here obscure kitchen tools you can't find elsewhere. If you are seriously into cooking or baking, I'm sure you'd find what you need here. Some items are overpriced. I purchased two Swedish dishcloths here for $5.95 each. (They come in a ton of patterns and colors here, which is fun!). But I know these are inexpensive, and on my last trip to Bellingham, I got a set of three of them for $8. So they are quite pricey at this store. And I've seen some of their more common items for sale elsewhere at half the price they were selling for here. However, there were quite a few deals to be found at this store, too. They have lots of high quality tapered candles in different colors, only 99 cents each here. And they've lots of white ceramic dishware and serving pieces at extremely reasonable prices. If you search this store, you will find bargains. I have to add that the young ladies who work here are all super friendly and helpful, too.

After all, the showroom was large, clean and beautiful, with so many display rooms showcasing so many appliances, so one can actually see how they would look in a real-life kitchen or bathroom or laundry room setting. And they have SO many makes and models of appliances, in many price points. And the staff seemed so knowledgeable and helpful - at least, our sales rep Ken was. So our experience here was pretty stellar at first. Unfortunately, my impression of the company went downhill pretty fast after the initial store visit. Here's the backstory: woke up yesterday to a dead microwave. (I don't know about you, but I can't live without a microwave!). My kid and I immediately went to Trail, on the recommendation of some neighbors. (Our condo has very precise specs for the mw built-in, as most condos do). Once at the store, initially, no-one was around to help us, and the sales rep folks were all chatting among themselves or sitting at desks with their computers in one area of the store. My kid and I beelined to the mw area and started looking at all the models, not sure which ones would work in our space. Surprisingly, even after 5-10 minutes, no-one came to help us out, so I wandered over to the sales rep area and asked for assistance. Soon after, Ken came to us and helped us out. He really was great. We found what we wanted, Ken said it was in stock, and we paid for it. Easy peasy, right? (Note: it was a super nice Panasonic model, midrange, and it cost approx. $500 with taxes and all. So...not for nothing). That's when the issues began. I found out that when Ken said "it's in stock", he didn't mean in stock in the store, but in stock in their warehouse in Surrey. Argh. So we could go and get it then or get it delivered in 5-6 days for an extra $45 or so. Ken said if we go to the warehouse, he'd call or email them first to ensure it would be waiting for us. Ok, we decided to go and get it. After the 40 minute drive (traffic wasn't great), found the warehouse, found the customer pick-up area, go inside, show ID, and the lady says, oh, your salesperson didn't check off something in the paperwork, have a seat, she'll contact the stockroom and figure it out. My kid avails herself to the free coffee there for customers (she said it was quite good. At least there's that!). After about 15 minutes, the woman says to us, again, there's a problem it's our sales rep's fault, something to do with the "allocation" (with?), and she asked if we could reach Ken as he's not answering her phone. (WTH?). I call Ken and pass the phone to this woman. They talk for a minute, then I talk to Ken and he says it's all a minor paperwork issue, there's no problem. Then the woman tells me that there are 7 of my mw's in stock but 6 are accounted for and she's hoping they can get me that one available mw, that there's an issue with "allocation", and again, it's "all your sales rep's fault" for not doing something or other. She was unsure if we'd even get the mw I ordered and purchased. She again advised us to take a seat. I asked how long would it take before she hopefully got the mw. She had no idea. I asked, well, are we talking another 10 minutes, or like, a hour, or more? (I did NOT want to hit rush hour traffic back to Van). She had no idea. ARGH. Here's when my blood started to boil and my stock in Trail Appliances started to tank. I whispered to my kid, this is clearly a company that does NOT care about its customers. It's incredibly poor form, IMO, to speak ill of your colleagues in front of clients and blame them for issues, and it's so unprofessional to tell people to just "wait" for something that may not even be available, indefinitely, with no idea of wait time. My kid and I just sat there, waiting, for about 45 minutes, all the while thinking, how much time before we leave, furious at this huge waste of time and effort. Heck, had I know it'd be like this, if I knew the mw wasn't in stock in the showroom, even, I'm not sure I'd have gone through with the purchase. I don't like surprises. Eventually, the woman said that the mw was there and they'd bring it out to our car. We got it and drove home and, yes, we are happy with the actual item purchased. But this whole experience took the better part of a whole day, and the warehouse experience was so unprofessional. It left a very bad taste in my mouth. I'd never go back to Trail as a result, regardless how great my new mw is.
