Excellent example of the Ikea brand, store is usually packed on weekends so weekdays would a good time to come if your not into crowds. They show a good attitude towards cleanliness and usually have staff around to help. This locations' restaurant has good decently priced delectables and grocery foodstuffs to take home. I personally don't buy anything major aside from a tv stand but their prices are steep for furniture and the like, but that's my opinion. My delivery service was shocking and disappointing. I ordered a sofa bed online . I was very happy to know it was in stock and it was ready to be delivered in just a few days. Delivery was arranged. There were 2 large heavy boxes and several smaller ones. I was shocked when delivery stopped outside the front door. The delivery people refused to bring the boxes in. There furniture is good but its a cumbersome process to put it all together. Once you are in, you have to finish pretty much the entire store to get out. Make sure to write the numbers of the things you liked as you will have to pick them up in the end. The delivery is quite expensive so you are better off picking your larger item yourself unless you are buying alot. The restaurant on site is quite good and reasonably priced. I missed the breakfast by 5 mins but there lunch wasn't bad. I have fish and chips and it was decent. The are also famous for they $1 yogurt which is located at the store near the exit... its very good. This past weekend, I came here twice in search for a particular bed. First time I was browsing and noticed a bed on sale. NO ONE was in that particular section and I had to hunt them down. Second time I came in with the purpose of purchasing the bed, but again NO ONE was in the section. I had to go to a neighbouring dept., stand in front of a couple workers who were chatting, wait for them to finish their conversation, and then they acknowledged me. The girl who was supposed to be in the bed dept. was in the wardrobe dept. I asked if she had a measuring tape - not that cheapie paper measuring tape - and she did not have one. Fine. Then she asked if she needed to go into the bed dept with me, in which she just ended up using a computer nearby to look up inventory. In the self-serve dept. the bed was NOT located in the right area as per the tag on the item in the showroom. Again, I had to find an associate who was talking - fine, they were talking about work - wait for them to finish their thing, then I was acknowledged. I asked where a particular item was and the told me and just pointed. Ultimately, the particular bed in the colour I wanted was NOT where associate said it was. Another colour was there, but not the one I wanted. I left empty-handed - partially because I was turned off about my whole experience at this store. I realise that they're not commission based, but why do I, as a customer, have to wait until workers finish their social conversation before I can ask my question? Do associates no longer show you where things are - as opposed to just pointing or following you to the dept. where assistance is required? Am I just asking too much?? read more

Like all the other poor ratings, this review is based on their customer service. The only way IKEA is enjoyable is if you go in, do your thing and self checkout. That's it. Once you start interacting with the people that work there, your visit is no longer pleasant. The second star is only because I actually enjoy IKEA products. On one occasion we asked one of the associates at the children's play area if she could open the door for us so we could get to the front faster. We saw a women open the door to come through, so we figured an associate could just open the door for us. On our side of the door it said emergency exit only and that the alarm would sound. So obviously we didn't want that to happen. When we asked the associate, she was already in a bad mood and answered "i could but...." and her voice trailed off as she was walking away. At that point we didn't care anymore and just walked away. It shouldn't be that difficult. It's a yes or no and it was clearly going to be a no. A few days later I returned to purchase a dresser. This time I was on my own. I was able to load this huge 2 piece dresser onto my cart myself. I should have self checkout but I wanted to make sure I got the "member price" as I had signed up the night before. The associate cashing me out was miserable and the store had only been open for an hour. I asked her if I could get the member pricing and she asked if I had my family card. I explained that I just signed up last night. She said that she needed the card. This is maybe not her fault and maybe IKEA as a whole, but what the heck is the point of signing up online when I still need to wait for a card?! Shouldn't you be able to look in the system and see that I am a member?! Anyways, I asked her if there was someone that could help me load the items in my car and she said they would be outside. I went outside, no one was around. So I went back in and asked the first associate I saw if she could call someone. They came within 3 minutes, but the person they called was 2 times smaller than me! I'm pretty small. I'm not trying to be mean and this judgement would have changed if he handled everything on his own but I ended up helping him! I initially knew I should have done it on my own. When he went to pick up the first larger piece it looked like he was struggling. So I asked if he needed help and he asked me to grab the other end. He didn't even try to get the second piece or offer. I already had my momentum going so I just managed to lift it and load it myself. Then he was all "you good?". Ugh. Thank god I work out because I probably would have had to wait for a second person to show up and help. Honestly, IKEA Etobicoke, your customer service sucks. IKEA is awesome. I like to come here to daydream about my future living space. I like how the furniture here is affordable and suitable for all sorts of living space whether your home is spacious or the size of someone's closet. They have lots of designs to help you plan your space so that even if you have a 400 square ft condo, somehow you can arrange a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen AND a laundry room into that space. Anyways, this location is right off hwy 427 and also beside Gardiner Expressway so super convenient. Cheap affordable food in case you get hungry while shopping. Such as the infamous $1 IKEA breakfast which they serve from 9:30-11 am and includes home fries, 2 sausages, and scrambled eggs. Add pancake for $1 and bottomless coffee for $1. Great lunch offerings too such as 10 Swedish meatballs with sides for $5.99. And while this is not a usual place where people go to study, I found it to be a great place to study on the weekday. Natural sunlight, plenty of seating, fairly quiet (especially before 12pm), and bottomless coffee! :) Speaking of bottomless coffee......... They just started the IKEA FAMILY card program which you can sign up for free at the kiosk by the cafeteria. It's like a loyalty card that you give for the cashier to scan when you buy things there. Some perks include: free coffee or tea when you visit Mon to Fri in the cafeteria, special discounts, entry for a $100 gift card every time you scan the card in the store, etc. read more

Chaos, pure chaos. C & I had such sensory overload here that we really didn't enjoy our experience. One of my most frustrating points was at the 20 person deep check out lines that gridlocked all of the Christmas trinkets. I wish they'd had this stuff far from the check out area, because there was no easy way to browse it, and people didn't want to let you through with their carts full of heavy crap. Meh. We decided to skip the showroom and went straight to the marketplace. Found a few good things. They have these little red paring knives that are SUPER sharp and I am obsessed with them. They're like $2 per knife and they cut through anything. The first time I used one, It was so sharp that it not only sliced through my tomato, but also the cutting board I was using. So I got one of those, and a few other things. Since we arrived hangry, we ate at the restaurant which is upstairs. Honestly, it wasn't good, though the lingonberry juice was. Once you master the short cuts and dizzying signs showing where to go, Ikea is really not as bad as everyone seems to think. They have free daycare for the kiddies, good and cheap food in the cafeteria along with beer to ease that Ikea stress. And hot dogs and ice cream at the checkout, all help to make a trip to Ikea more tolerable. But knowing the tricks like going back thru the checkout and into the warehouse to buy an item really make the place better. I did exactly that when I wanted another rail for a wardrobe. We visited Ikea this afternoon to have some cheap yummy food and to get ideas on how we would like our future place to look like. Okay, the trip was more to have some Ikea food lol. It was quite busy and chaotic with all the kids running around in the kids section right by the cafe. They had several food options to choose from but Ikea is known for their Swedish meatballs so I ordered that. He got the roasted chicken and salad. The meatballs and the side of mashed potatoes were delicious! The roasted chicken was moist and better than the dry piece of chicken at Swiss Chalet. Many tables were dirty and utensils were missing or lacking. It didn't seem like there were many employees in the cafe cleaning up the area. My boyfriend had to wipe down our table before we sat down. After eating we began our way through Ikea looking at the various showrooms. It's not as chaotic as it is downstairs. The lines to get checked out were quite long so we decided to self-checkout. The self-checkout lines moved much faster but they don't accept cash. The restaursnt: The food here was mostly very good. Mostly because it was either very good, or cardboard. That said all of it was very well priced. The chilli was beyond great, fries were good, salmon was very tasty BUT the salmon balls were made from the cardboard that the salmon was shipped in. The Mac and Cheese was good but cold. And I mean it has not seen heat all day kind of cold. The fish and chips were good but people were complaining that the prepackaged tartar sauce was bad. To me it tasted mediocre. So they still had pick-up for on line orders. No problem! Placed the order. Receipt said I could pick up the next morning. Drove to the store only to find out that you MUST have an email saying it is ready. WHY DIDNT THEY SAY THAT WHEN I PLACED MY ORDER??? Geeze! There's 90 minutes I'll never get back. So I waited almost a week only to learn via a robocall that they were shutting down the pickup. WHAT??? OK. So now what? After phoning, emailing, and getting absolutely ZERO meaningful information, I finally happened upon a rep who seemed to know their stuff, combined my order, offered free delivery, just "click the link". Sweet. Except they didn't transfer all the items I had on order. I added them... placed the "new" old combined order, GOT CHARGED FOR DELIVERY, and the receipt said it would be delivered in two days. Excellent... Except it didn't come. Ug. NO update on line. No email letting me know what's happening. Nothing. Terrible communication. They have my money. We had came to ikea to return some lamps my fiancé had bought that we had fully assembled and used! I packed them up nicely and put them back into the box and headed down to ikea! We waited about 10 min in line to see the cashier and he did not even open the box to check if we had used the lamps! WOW 5 star service! WE GOT FULL REFUND! So we headed into the shopping market to find some plants and photo frames. To my surprise they had everything we were looking for in the photo section! So many awesome frames to choose from with a wide price range! The plant section was very small with minimal to choose. A lot was sold! The racks were cleared out! We came here for some curtains and ended up eating dinner at their cafeteria. To my surprise, the food was actually pretty decent and cheap! We ordered the salmon with rice and the Swedish meatballs which came with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce. I've had the best and most expensive meatballs in Sweden and I must admit, this is up there for 1/4 of the price. The mashed potato were equally impressive made with real potatoes as opposed to the ones wiped out of a box. The rice that accompanied the Salmon was cooked with zucchini, squash and carrots! Talking about a balanced diet. Lastly, the ambience, we came here on a weeknight and it was heavenly quiet. Complete opposite of the weekend crowd with screaming kids. I'm not a fan of the IKEA brand products. I mainly just go there for the 15 or 20 piece meatball dinner. It's cafeteria food so it's fast and cheap, since it's close to my office I don't mind going there. In my experience on the weekdays I don't have to wait very long in line but on weekends it's really busy with a number of kids in the "kids zone" of the cafeteria. The only complaint I have is I don't know how healthy IKEA food is for the wasteline. read more

Better than the North York store. There's a shuttle bus to pick up customers from Kipling station just as there's a shuttle bus from Leslie to the North York store. I went to this store because they had more stock on hand; I was looking for two lamps and Etobicoke carried a higher inventory of both. The Etobicoke Ikea carries more stock than North York (check the Ikea website) and the store was cleaner. I was really impressed with the staff who were knowledgeable and very helpful. There were a fair number of customers (this was during a weekday late afternoon) but it wasn't as crowded as the North York store and the lineups at the cash moved quickly. All in all, a very good customer experience and I did buy my two lamps that I went for. read more

Decided to give IKEA a try for breakfast. The usual scrambled eggs, bacon or chicken sausage, toast and a slice of tomato was on the menu. I believe the eggs were powdered, but the rest was real (I think) mostly it was good deal and convenient since I was to get some stuff for the house. Not the kind of place you'd go for a large or great breakfast but it does the job in a pinch. I have placed 2 orders online for delivery. In the ordering process, I selected a delivery date for each order. No problem there. Only AFTER I have paid and the order is confirmed am I advised that the MINIMUM delivery time is 6 weeks. This is ridiculous. Customers should be advised before final purchase that their order is going to take a whole lot longer to get there. Orders cannot be cancelled, or amended online - the so-called 'chat box' doesn't exist. I have ordered, I have paid. I am then told that what I have ordered is not going to get to me any time soon, and there is now way to contact them. Chat is not available, calling is not available, email is not available, they do not respond to FB messenger either. Yes similar to your cell phone provider, I too have realized that getting others to deal with your headache for small fee, may just be the way of the future. Four or more items: I'll bring the shovel, you tell me where the body is stashed... don't ask don't tell right?! I bought the world's ugliest bookshelf here last summer. She was a limited edition massive Billy Bookcase that was clearly conceived in a haze of acid and once too many meatball servings. It's white with odd scribbles and stamp doodles in various colours. At first I thought it was a bookcase travesty and than it grew on me (or more like the 14.99$ price tag for a $99 bookshelf swayed me). Fast forward almost a year later and that thing was still sitting in the corner of my apartment un-opened and waiting for a drunken assembling team. I called a few co-workers over to assist (AKA do all the work while I mix cocktails). Upon opening the flat cardboard box, we discovered I had none of the required hardware... no dowels, screws, nails, not ever a stupid allen key for pete's sake! I re-grouped and consulted my many Ikea connoisseur friends who told me I could buy a kit to assemble my bookshelf... so much for $14.99. The best part is that this must be purchased at the dreaded Return Counter. I've heard stories of friends going in for a missing piece and going missing themselves... doomed to be ground up into Lack table dust none the less... I showed up at 10:34am on a bright Wednesday morning to said location. I had on my Yelp sweat bands and was ready for the long wait and series of stupid customer service questions. To my surprise the whole ordeal went quite smoothly. After fiddling with the automated ticket machine, I received my number and was called up to the desk within 10 mins. I explained that I wanted to buy a kit for my Billy bookcase which came with no hardware (and since it was a year old I did not have the receipt). Turns out they don't sell these kits or at least they didn't have any. I made a frowny face and prepared to admit defeat when the service lady said she would do the impossible... she would manually assemble a kit for me of the 5693 pieces needed to put my bookshelf together. If it weren't for her ugly Blue and Yellow uniform I might have thrown myself over the counter and kissed her (but I have standards and kept composure). This woman was my knight and shining armour as she swooped from bin to bin comparing 'thing-a-ma-doo-hickies' to 'whatcha-ma-call-its' bitting her lip in frustration and using her bullshit assembly manual to select the right quantities. She pushes the hair from her face and wipes the sweat from her brow, hands me my bag of Ikea bling and wishes me a good day. Yes indeed that was a good day!! read more

But that's the nature of the beast - we only go to IKEA because there's no other option for decent, affordable apartment furnishings. You may suck, but you've got the market cornered. Here are a few things you could work on in the future if you'd like to mend this relationship: 1. When I rent a Zipcar to come for a visit, please have what I'm looking for in stock. 2. Please don't mis-shelve similar-looking items in your warehouse. 3. Please don't make me line up four times in order to a) buy stuff, b) return the stuff I just bought because it was shelved in the home of what I actually wanted to buy, c) buy the stuff I wanted in the first place and d) get a hot dog. 4. Worst Ikea ever! Overstaffed in the most useless departments and extremely understaffed in the self-serve furniture department. They do this so that they can charge you an extra $40 to have someone help grab your items. I needed my furniture delivered and assembled, and the girl quoted that although the furniture can be delivered in two days, no one was able to assemble it until ELEVEN days later. Then when I got home I called the store, and the guy said that someone could come in three days to assemble my furniture. However, to arrange this service, I was told I would have to haul my ass all the way back to their extremely inconveniently located Ikea store as they do not accept payment through the phone or online for the service. How inconvenient and archaic is that? Also for some reason, even if you buy over $2k worth of things and pay for delivery, they absolutely refuse to deliver anything other than large furniture for you. What's the point of paying for delivery when in the end I have to bring most of what you deem "small" items home by myself anyway? If you have absolutely no intention or means to bring all your furniture home with you and assemble it yourself, I would suggest looking into hiring external companies to do the job. I was doing some shopping at Ikea on Saturday with a friend and decided to stop into the restaurant to grab a quick bite to eat. Their pricing is really reasonable and the services is really quick. I had the famous meatballs with mash potatoes and cranberry sauce. As you would expect they were decent, but a little over cooked, but when you cover them in gravy they were really good. The food helped me get enough energy to walk through the whole store and grab everything that I needed to get. read more

Though not the landmark first Ikea that opened in Toronto, and not the first to challenge 416-Area Code furniture shoppers to assemble their purchases armed with a Phillips head screwdriver and an Allen Key (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/ikea-canada-north-york), this still is the better of the pair of stores in Toronto. And truly, both are great places to find furnishings, but this has the advantage of being the newer kid on the block. Handy to get to right off the Gardiner Expressway, there's an added bonus of going here. Parking is blissfully abundant. The typical walk through the merchandise that is enforced by Idea's room-by-room hospital line is actually well organized, amply displayed, and available for sitting on, lying down, and trying out. The only thing missing is functioning toilets and a working stove so that you can see what making meatloaf would be like in new digs. Why a '5' rating? Again, the parking is ample even on a Saturday, the day when it's busiest and most relationships crack from the stress. Also, the staff have always been helpful, and at this location, I've never had to bust out the old joke, "Ikea: Swedish for 'Out of Stock'". This is one of the few "We're shopping here this weekend" places that don't make me want to hide. read more

Pre-pandemic this place was great. Now it gets harder and harder to be satisfied with their service. Online ordering is awful with an extra service fee even when you are the one picking up your item. In-store don't accept cash which is an inconvenience for certain groups of people and strange to have considering other businesses smaller than IKEA has long moved away from this implementation. So because it's Ikea I feel that it isn't really fair to rate the store overall since it's corporately mandated how it is set up and everything is cookie-cutter. The staff however are fair game. Sometimes the staff here are really great and other times I'm left wondering why some of them work in retail if they hate their jobs so much. On my recent trip the other day I went with a co-worker as we both needed some furniture and had a rental van to get it to our houses. She was buying a couch. We sent to the department and started looking at the options. The store wasn't busy as it was a Tuesday afternoon and the two employees in the department didn't seem to be up to much. We had some questions but the staff didn't really seem to care. We had to point at things from across the department as the staff member helping us just wouldn't leave her little station. By the end of the ordeal we just figured it out for ourselves. Very frustrating. The cashier wasn't very helpful either. My coworker and I had everything on one cart, but it was organized to make it easy when we went through the check-out. I pointed out what was for my order and paid. When the cashier was scanning my coworker's items I pointed out that she had scanned one twice. She firmly denied it and finished up the order. Sure enough when she hit total, the bill was too much. She looked at the receipt and recognized that she had indeed scanned the coffee table twice. One of the items my co-worker bought had to be picked up from the full-serve area. We asked the cashier what the process was but was very unhelpful. We went over to the full service desk and waited, not realizing that we had to actually go up to the desk and show them the receipt before the order would be processed. So not only is this a cashier fail on her part not giving us the correct information, this is also a failure on Ikea's part for not providing clear signage or notification on the receipt that you need to place your order after you've paid. This is the worst IKEA. We spent almost $3000 on their wardrobes and had the worst experience. We payed extra to have the wardrobes assembled. After they assembled one we were told the other two for the kids room couldn't be done because there were baseboards. What home doesn't have baseboards? Then we were told we had to either take off the baseboards or put 2x4s on the wall to make sure the wardrobes were secure. However they wouldn't finish the assembly. And they would charge us another $89 to reschedule. Maybe, having installed in many homes IKEA should have given us a heads up that "if your home has baseboards this is what you should do" before the delivery. Cash grab. After spending more money than we wanted to. I didn't even want them to come back. Decided to deal with the rest of the assembly without them. I would suggest going to another location in Toronto if you want stuff delivered. The delivery service is kind of terrible. They did not deliver the goods at the time it was scheduled. and the next day they were unaware where the shipment was at that point. On top of that, they were unwilling to make a new shipment to ensure a delivery could be made as soon as possible. All of this is especially annoying as I just moved to the city and don't have any furniture what so ever. read more

Ordered 800$ worth of stuff in early April. I understand I have to wait 6 weeks due to covid. However during the delivery date, I received someone else's order with someone else's name + address sent to my house. Have not received any items of my order. Heard they're doing curb side pick up but they charged me 60$ for delivering nothing. And now stores are back open but I still have not received my order. i just tried to make a return and buy a gift from ikea. What a shit show. Drove to the underground because I know that's near their return desk and found it under repair and poorly signed. the entrance elevators were out of service, and the door to get in was hidden around the corner with no signage. I ended up finding myself walking into a construction site! When I got in with two heavy boxes of goods to return, I walked straight past a woman who didn't bother to let me know that there was a two hour wait. After I finally realize that's who I should be talking to, She tells me it's a two hour wait!! I said that felt unacceptable. She was not apologetic and gave me a smug look and said yes, we have to serve all these people. I said, do you have not have enough staff? And she just shrugged.
