Tuesday at 1130am was a great time to shop at IKEA. The parking lot was relatively empty. I think there are way too many eco car spaces. There were only two cars in the entire lot. I don't mind that everything is on one floor, in fact I really do like that. The show room was interesting but it is a bunch of confusing layouts. Very high probability of getting lost or going the wrong way and having to turn around. I did appreciate the Maps hanging from the ceiling. They were helpful. There are a couple spots where you can cut through to the register instead of going around the whole store. That was clearly marked as well. we spent three hours there, including lunch and loading the car. I found everything I needed (a 12x16 black frame) and a lot of stuff that was so reasonable, I couldn't say no. I spent $125 and got a nice storage unit with drawers, Queen duvet set, welcome mat, silicone hot pads, gf almond cake, hardware kit, drawer liners, kitty tunnel, two large wall shelves, glass baking dish, etc. Pretty random stuff. But for the price it was a great bargain. There is also an As Is area in self serve which contains discounted open box items. I didn't find anything in that area. The cashier was really nice. The most inefficient and frustrating thing is trying to get someone to help you load large and heavy pieces into your car. There is no real clear instruction on how or where to do that. The cashier told me to go around the corner and there was the exchange desk and the furniture pick up desk. No indication of who lm to speak to to get help. A nice lady at the furniture pick up desk said I do not see anyone so I will help you. She walked outside with us and found someone that could help us. I guess he nodded his head and proceeded to grab cards from the parking lot and bring them inside. I had to ask him if he was able to help and he said in a minute. I stood in my car for about 10 minutes and waited for him. He finally came and loaded the car which was helpful. But it shouldn't have been that difficult to set up. IKEA came through the next day and solved the problem with missing inventory. Looking for shoe racks and found one I liked after going to many sites for "In Store Stocked Items". Checked IKEA's inventory and was listed as 115 units in stock. Made the 30 mile one way trip on 1/20/20 to the Oak Creek store and found an empty bin, called for an associate and was told "none in the store". Went to customer service and asked in lieu of mistake on the site would you please give a voucher for free shipping since I made the special trip for this particular item, the answer was an immediate " No, I can't do that" from the supervisor. I left my contact info and order number and got a call back the next day, the representative immediately gave me free shipping on the 4 items that I went to get in store. 4 stars to the rep that solved this problem on the spot. Interacting with Staff = 5 Stars: All of the staff members I interacted with were very helpful. Bonus, they will offer to show you shortcuts to the warehouse if you're done shopping! Staffing = 3 Stars: Most of their staff are in the display areas, while that makes sense for crowd control/directing people/answering questions/etc, it also means they are understaffed in the checkout area. During the week when I was there, about half of the 15 checkout lanes were open with long waits. The cashiers are fast, they just have a lot to get through. Layout = 2 Stars: I hate the one level layout. Knowing how to get out of somewhere quickly is important to me. While I don't have severe claustrophobia, it makes me uneasy when I don't really know where I am in a building. They have maps hanging from the ceiling but they didn't help me as much as I expected. Thankfully, it's fairly easy to spot cut-throughs if you look to the sides a bit and using those, rather than following the arrows, will save a lot of time. I also hate how narrow the pathway is. People tend to walk very slowly, stop to stare at items, randomly stop, etc. and it gets extremely annoying if you want to get to another section of the store. My past Ikea experience was at their Schaumburg location and much prefer having the store spread over various levels. Check Before You Go (If you know what you want.): I highly recommend checking the inventory status if you want to buy a specific item. I wanted an eight cube Kallax shelf, but found when I got there they sold out. If the website lists less than about five, good luck (the day I went, "3" were in stock, but zero on the shelf). They restock fairly quickly but given how many people shop there, save yourself some time by checking on items in advance. Parking = 4 Stars: Not a bit issue on the weekdays but be aware, there are generally several hundred people there even now. I want nothing to do with this store on the weekends for about two years. Food = 4 Stars: The food is surprisingly good for being a cafeteria in a furniture store. The line looks long but they move you through quickly. I got the Swedish meatballs w/ mashed potatoes and veggies which were good. The person I was with got the vegetable balls w/ quinoa, vegetables, and a veggie sauce that was fantastic! The salmon burger also looked good, as did the desserts. The flavored sparkling waters were good but be aware that the drink machine over fizzes the soda so you'll get about 50/50 liquid and foam. It's not fantastic food but it's good, extremely reasonably priced, fast, and necessary for a store you'll spend several hours in. Overall: If you don't mind crowds, walking around in a maze, and want something to do, this store is great. If you're there for a specific item, hate tons of people walking slowly, and/or don't particularly want to look at a billion furniture displays, wait a few months or drive to IL. read more

Not my best IKEA trip- management is disorganized and unwilling to find solutions to very simple problems. Treated us very poorly, especially considering how much money we were spending. I've never gotten claustrophobic in a store before. What a terrible layout. When there's a lot of people in there, it's awful. It is just one tiny room into the next with no clear way out. The signage is very bad. They're not orientated correctly, so you can't tell by reading them which direction to go. I literally had to get help to get out of the store. Unless you have been living under a rock (or in Oak Creek) your whole life, you should know what that means: Ready-to-assemble furniture suited for college dorms or your first #adulting apartment; funky, artistically created interior decor made mostly out of cheap materials that look good out of the box, but don't always hold up over time; $1.99 Swedish Meatball dinners; and in general, a one-of-a kind shopping experience that you will not find anywhere other than an IKEA.Shopping here can be a lot of fun, just stay away during back-to-school time and any weekend day. There's always lots of new seasonal stock being rotated so there is potential for surprises. We have been going to the Schaumburg IKEA for years now, and I prefer that layout to the Oak Creek store. You always know where you are at that store and you don't have to walk 2.3 miles to get from one end of it to the other. Sure, there are shortcuts at the OC store, but you have to be either an employee or a cartographer to understand how to navigate them. To say that I am a fan of IKEA is a huge understatement. Back when I used to have to drive forever to Schaumburg to visit this place, I loved it. I have been spreading the gospel of well-designed Swedish goods for years. The rumors about RTA (ready-to-assemble) furniture being terrible are unfounded if you are buying from IKEA. My Malm bedroom set was purchased at least 14 years ago, and despite 6 moves (where we had to take apart the bed and put it back together), it is still going strong. Unlike other reviewers, I am used to some facts about IKEA: 1) It is nearly always busy. Expect a wait at the checkouts. Part of this issue is that they don't give you bags to put stuff in, and newbies don't know this, and feel they have to discuss it at length with the checkout person. This adds minutes to each transaction. Since people are bringing unwieldy boxes through, it takes more time to scan those orders than it would take to scan cans of soup at a grocery store or something. 2) This place is about price, not service. They do whatever they can to keep prices down. That includes not being able to provide a ton of floor workers or people to answer the phone quickly. It's just part of the deal here. 3) Prices are low, so go in there with a list. Check out the catalog first (you can get a copy in the store or view online). Otherwise, you will find yourself buying a TON of stuff you really don't need. 4) Bring a bag, cause they won't give you one. Plan ahead if you are buying large items, and bring away to secure those things if they won't fit in your car. 5) If you buy something big, you can walk it over to the curbside and drive your car up there. Don't try to load stuff in the parking lot. The small curbside areas are made for loading your large purchases. I love this store because of the price and selection, and because the design quality of many items is so high. I have been a customer for 15 years, and I know I will be back visiting the Oak Creek location. Some things need improvement there: the cafe and restaurant (get the Swedish meatballs!) need more and better staffing. For instance, during my visit to the restaurant last night, there were no coffee cups. Since I am an IKEA Family member and get free coffee, I was disappointed at the lack of cups. I think this is a staffing issue. The other issue was that the small grab and go area at the front of the store has a little seating area that is always filthy. Again,better or more staff needed here. But my other experiences at this store have always been good. read more

TLDR: We had a wretched customer service experience here. Avoid IKEA Oak Creek, at least until they've had a chance to get their bearings (they opened in May 2018, roughly 4 months ago). The IKEA main call center, and Twin Cities and Schaumberg locations provide VASTLY superior service. Details: Our Click & Collect order was not available at the scheduled time. We were directed to come back in a few hours or the next day, and the staff implied that Click & Collect crew was mismanaged by a difficult personality. Pro-tip 1: Many customers aren't able to accommodate the extra travel time. Don't assume they can return later. Pro-tip 2: Don't smack talk your coworkers to customers. That is never okay. After politely insisting that we could not return and offering potential solutions to the Customer Service rep (they were trying to send us away), they agreed to ship the missing items to our home. We happily set a delivery date. Our item didn't arrive. Huh. After 10 business days, I called the main customer service line and talked to some lovely, helpful folks who spent all afternoon trying to get answers out of the Oak Creek store. Turns out that Oak Creek *cancelled our order without notifying us* because our order was incorrectly logged as unpaid. This is all communicated clearly and professionally by the IKEA main CS staff. They even escalated our order to their manager to get it resolved more quickly. The manager called within 15 minutes and connected me to Oak Creek for resolution. This Oak Creek staff member was also unhelpful. They didn't ask me any questions to clarify what was needed, just relied on ME attempting to figure out what info they needed. Once we were on the same page, they promised to call me back. Oak Creek never called me back. I had to call the main line AGAIN to be connected to Oak Creek, and talk to someone else to set a new delivery date, and repeatedly asked them to wait (not hang up) and PLEASE provide my new order number. Our item arrived in the end, but every interaction with Oak Creek was like pulling teeth. I feel bad for the staff who work there and think the staff needs training on basic problem-solving strategies and how to communicate effectively. The main IKEA customer service line has excellent, professional staff, as do the other locations in the Midwest. I hope things improve for Oak Creek, but I'm going to another location in the future. read more

Let me start by saying I do love Ikea, just not this one. I've frequented Ikeas in Brooklyn, San Diego and Chicago - this one is just not up to par. The layout is super odd and the staff is so-so, at best. We went in for kitchen cabinets three times. The first experience was OK- not amazing but we figured out what we wanted and started planning our kitchen. The next time we went back it turned out there was a kitchen sale - we went about 2.5 hours before they closed on a Friday, thinking that a friday night would be a bit quieter... it was but they were woefully understaffed. 2 people for the whole department. We signed in and waited and were finally helped about 2 hours later We were basically told that we couldn't be helped because they were closing in a half hour, despite waiting for 2 hours for help. That should have been the sign to give up. Well.... we were optimistic and came back Sunday morning and were literally the first people to sign in - again they were woefully understaffed. Despite signing in, multiple people were helped in front of us, 1 had an appointment (which is totally fine for them to be helped first) the next several didn't, they were just louder or angrier or were "there for something quick (ie 45 minutes). All in all it took about 2.5/3 hours to get helped again and once we were finally helped it was another 2 is hours. We got there before 10am and weren't out of there until 2pm. What a horrible experience. We really wanted those cabinets though.. Long story short, some pieces were back ordered so we had to go back. That was another hour + experience. Now today is really the icing on the cake. They have a rule that if you order something you have to check that everything has arrived and that you've checked it for damage within 48 hours. You literally have to sign off on it. That's totally fine. What I didn't expect was that 3 of 3 items shipped would be damaged and that I CAN'T GET THROUGH TO IKEA. I've called nearly 30 times now and you get either "circuits busy" or a message saying that they're experiencing high call volumes and that calling Tuesday - Thursday is a better time - before it hangs up on you. Well if I wait until Tuesday that's wayyyy past the 48 hours that I agreed to. I tried emailing but didn't get any confirmation or copy of that email so I basically have no proof of trying to contact them within 48 hours outside of all of the outbound calls on my phone log. Granted this is the corporate number but now i'm trying to call the store and their number is the exact same number as corporate. I wish I'd have known what a nightmare dealing with them would have been. I wont ever buy anything from them that I can't walk out with, ever again. This is a different type of big box store. Prices are very reasonable. Not sure I 100% liked having to go through several show rooms to shop. Than going to one area to find all the items i saw in the show room. Did not like that I needed to purchase my own bags or buy one of theirs. Lines were very long on a Sunday late morning with only 3 cashiers and no one called for back up. Ill be back but it has to be when i have more time to shop as you can not just go to the isle you need and go to the check out you must go though the show rooms to get to what u need and through the full store to check out. read more

Ordered a "coffee" for $1 from the to-go food area (not cafeteria)... and had to use a machine that online had latte, espresso, hot water, cappuccino, and americano. The americano apparently is like regular coffee and it was fine but just seemed ridiculous just they don't have plain old coffee. Employees are always willing to help though. Online shopping hasn't been the best with IKEA since Covid started, so we waited until we could shop in person to get the matching footstool for the chair that took more than a month to arrive from the online order. We went Friday afternoon and it seemed okay, size of crowd wise, so we ventured in. A nice masked lady required all to stop and use hand sanitizer and take a (required) disposable mask, if needed. So far so good. But that's where the COVID-19 safety ends. *Many* people were shopping with masks either under their noses or pulled completely down. It was very upsetting that no employees were appointed to maintain shopping safety once past the entrance to this enormous space. We got into verbal altercations with two separate individuals over this. We attempted to enlist the help of store staff but got basically a shrug of indifference, even from a manager. We got our footstool and left, after standing in a very long winding checkout line with many people not socially distancing nor wearing masks properly or at all. It was extremely stressful. We will not be back until they have posted people to monitor this noncompliance throughout the store. I predict there will be many fights if many refuse to be responsible for blocking the spread of COVID-19 and IKEA does nothing. Disappointed. I have been wanting to make my way to this Ikea and I finnaly did. This is a new store that recently opened up. Upon arrival I noticed that this is a one level store. Yes, 1 level but the place is huge. When entering the carts are hard to find, is almost like they are hiding. Had such a bad experience at the fast food kiosk section where you buy hot dogs and frozen yoghurt. The line was super busy so we stood in line for about 10-15 minutes since there was just one open register. When it was FINALLY our turn to order, another IKEA EMPLOYEE cut right in front of us and told the cashier she just wanted a vanilla cone, dismissing the long line behind her!! (Side note, all I ordered was also just a vanilla cone!) And because she tried paying with her phone app, it ended up causing the card machine to hang, making us all wait several more minutes! Eventually the cashier guy told her he'd just pay for it so he can service the rest of us customers!! DO IKEA EMPLOYEES GET PRIORITY EVEN IF US CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN WAITING IN LINE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME? This was definitely the most frustrating ikea experience we've ever had! Good first experience at this location. Matt was ultra helpful and even came back around a couple of times to check on us. He helped us with looking for specific items and let us know the best way to get them. It was frustrating that 2 of the items we were looking for were unavailable even though they were "in the warehouse" on site. I was told I have to come back tomorrow. I was super excited for this IKEA to open, was pretty disappointed. I don't like the layout compared to others I've been to. The cafeteria here was also a big disappointment. The food we had was good, but there wasn't any selection, everything was gone other than soup and veggie medallions, both of which were good but some selection would be nice. Here is the biggest problem, we were waiting in line to check out around 3:15, there was only one lane open and no other cashiers in sight. The check out line was long and people were getting annoyed, finally another lane opened and the guy kept complaining that he was the only manager on the floor and didn't have time to be checking people out. After a long wait, several cashiers appeared and opened a couple more lanes, apparently they were all at a mandatory huddle. I guess I won't ever try to check between 3:00 and 3:45. read more

First and last time shopping at this location. Click and collect is a disaster here. We received the email that the order was ready before going to the store. We pulled into a parking spot and followed instructions -- send a text, then click link in text to sign up online, enter order details and wait. And wait. And wait. First the website said we were first in line. But after 20 minutes, the website said there was a 3 hour wait. At that point we went inside to the pickup area. An employee checked the computer and said, "Oh you're in parking spot x. I'll bring it out." By the time he brought our order, all others spots were full and cars were backing up waiting for spots. In total this took 30 minutes. We'd probably still be there if we hadn't gone inside. read more

I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of this place! I am not a shopper- at all, but somehow I got sucked into this place. (Thanks to my wife). It is a fascinating place and you'll discover a thousand things you never knew you needed. I would have never imagined having lunch at a furniture store. Their "famous" Swedish meatballs were actually awesome, although I'm not on board with the lingonberry jelly with them. It's inexpensive, and the food quality was Surprisingly good. I had the kids plate which included a small portion of meatballs- 5 I think, with mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as mixed vegetables. I also had a cup of soup which wasn't great though. My whole meals including a drink was under $6! The wait in the queue to get the food and check out (it's cafeteria style) was painful though. Everyone there, through the whole store was extremely friendly and helpful. If you go, look for "Samir", he was awesome! We were trapped in this crazy time paradox and spent three hours looking around. That is WAY beyond my normal shopping threshold of 15 minutes. They really fit all of the merchandise in a pretty condensed space. It's overwhelming to go through and I usually find IKEA calming. On a busy day, for example, a 90 degree Saturday, we knew going in we would be met with a crowd, there were no parking spots, people were parking in grass, and even behind the building. It's possible I would enjoy this particular store in the off season. It was really so packed you could not hear yourself think. I was introduced to IKEA about 20 years ago in California! I didn't care for it then but it was time to give them a second chance. I'll give credit where credit is due and IKEA has definitely improved the quality of their offerings. Personally, I still won't buy anything there I want to see last for a long time. I picked up a few small kitchen items I expect to replace in just a few months. I did make one large purchase I hope I won't regret later! I needed an inexpensive bed I can use for a brief period then hand over to overnight visitors. I got the basic set and may pay for improvement later on. The store is still the way I remembered, sprawling and disorganized. You have to run from one place to another and back to assemble the necessities for one purchase. Then they let you loose in the warehouse to scout through the shelves and bins, without assistance, to find what you need. Associates are lacking and the few you can find know nothing about the layout of the store, the products they sell and act inconvenienced by the simplest inquiries. I guess they spend more time at "hug-sessions" than product knowledge classes! I'm not planning to subject myself to this trauma again for at least another 20 years! read more

It's all fun and games until you actually buy something. Listen. I was as dazzled as all y'all when this place first opened. So pretty. Such low prices. And those meatballs, are you kidding me? Delicious! So enchanted was I that against my better judgment, I purchased a sofa. 'Never mind all those bad Yelp reviews' I said to myself 'my experience will be great. This store is fan-freaking-tastic.' On the day of my scheduled delivery, no sofa. No call, no show. After a couple of hours on hold, I was able to reschedule the delivery for a few days later. No apology or explanation for the no show, and the lady on the phone was very rude to me. (In retrospect I'd imagine that she gets yelled at all day by IKEA customers who have been swindled out of their money). On the next scheduled delivery day guess what? No call, no show. A couple more hours on hold, and I'm told that the sofa that I paid for has been discontinued, and I can't have it. The lady on the phone told me that the legs for the sofa were available, and asked me if I still wanted them. Um....no? I was told that I would not receive a refund, only a store credit. At this point, I started crying. Then and only then I was offered a full refund. Four days pass. My card had not been refunded. Two more hours on hold and I'm told that a customer resolutions specialist from the Oak Creek store (name withheld because I'm going to be the bigger person) will call me right back to take care of me. Four hours later, I happened to be in the area, (I was actually purchasing a sofa at Biltrite. It's a BEAUTY!) so I walked into IKEA. By my first stroke of luck with this place, was able to speak directly to the person who was supposed to have called me back and taken care of me. She gave me some B.S. story about losing my information. By now, I know that this type of behavior is to be expected. Anyway, when no one was able to put me on hold, because I was physically there, I finally got my refund. Why was I allowed to buy an item in the first place if it was discontinued? Why was my delivery re-scheduled when they were never going to deliver my sofa anyway? Why did I have to miss two days of work for nothing, and spend 6+ hours on hold, for nothing? BECAUSE IKEA DOESN'T CARE. The Three Stooges could do a better job with customer service than IKEA could. This company has a culture of cruelty towards their customers, instead basic human decency. There is no nicer or more logical way to say it. IKEA will not receive one more penny from me. read more

Worst IKEA ever!! Impossible to navigate this store. Arrows on the floor don't help, signage isn't clear, staff is perplexed. When asked how do we exit they roll their eyes. We asked 5 people!! How can Oak Creek permit it? It's a FIRE hazard!! Stay away. Don't risk your sanity. read more

I love IKEA. This one is a huge disappointment. Out of 2 basic pieces of furniture. They were in the stacks but staff said they couldn't get them down. Lines were long. THEY HAD NO SWEDISH MEATBALLS TO SELL! Layout was exhausting and confusing. Restaurant very nice and staff were friendly. It's 45 minutes farther to Schaumburg. I'll just go there. read more
