Sandwich counter, sushi counter, sandwich counter, sushi counter... this is the what you'll usually be bombarded with in your average Sydney food court, but wait...Iku wholefood counter? I must learn more. It's fair to say there isn't ONE single conventional thing on this menu, a very refreshing and slightly disconcerting fact (I used to think I was quite a foodie). It's as though I'm looking at the results of Heston Blumenthal having been trapped in a farm, there are no additives, preservatives, meats or unimaginative products in this smorgasboard of dishes. Unsure whether I wanted everything or nothing (I mean...rice balls? Dull.com) I decided to get one of their little selection packs. Inside were 6 snakc-sized pieces of healthy goodness. I wasn't even sure what I was eating, there was definitely rice paper rolls with satay tofu and vermicelli noodles inside, a sort of square of sweetcorn, some fried and nutty rice and a lots of pickled cabbage salad. I'm doing it a disservice not being able to name every ingredient as it was absolutely delicious! Each piece was incredibly well-herbed and every taste on your palate is tickled and the best bit is, coming away feeling like you've just kicked unhealthiness up the arse!
Quite pricey, but a great deal of thought and care has gone into these dishes, so well worth it. read more
