Food was great! Carbonara and charcuterie -excellent. The server was a bit grumpy/annoyed with us when we weren't super fast at ordering.

Wonderful gem nearby the Colosseum. We chose it for lunch and each had a different dish. We were all pleased Carbonara, Ravioli and Lamb. We were quite pleased.

Great service and excellent recommendations! The pasta dishes were very tasty! One of the better meals we have had in Rome. The atmosphere is relaxing and the music is great.

Stopped by for a quick bite. We really just wanted some meats/cheeses and a bottle of wine until it stopped raining. The wine was good (as the rest of Italys wine) and the meat/cheese board was great as well.

    Rib-eye. 300gm.

As an American it is hard to judge food from other countries. The bread was phenomenal. Crust on the outside and plush inside. We requested olive oil as it seemed perfect for dipping. We ordered an appetizer of focaccia and prosciutto. Can't go wrong. I was feeling protein starved after a few days of pasta, pizza and gelato to ordered the rib-eye. At 8E/hg it was a good deal. 300grams. Somewhat thin slice. Came with herb butter that could have been more herby. Vegetable and potato side was nice. Steak was medium in some places medium well in others. I'd give it a 3/5. One guest ordered the duck ragu. Other than finding it very salty she thought it was one of the better dishes of our vacation. Other guest ordered ravioli and thought it was fine. Service was great. Interior was warm so we sat outside. Music would have been nice. This restaurant is in sea of restaurants a few blocks from the colosseum. So many choices. Prices were great as it was two blocks away. Also made for a much quieter meal undisturbed by motor vehicle and foot traffic. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel for Romanesque food. Given our overall experience with food on the 3-4 scale I'd say this was par for the neighborhood. Immediate, attentive service and location make it a winner.

Seriously, the BEST meal we had in Rome. I only wish we could've gone back the next day, because we would've been there! Great service and wine recommendations. We started off with some apps that were fried but in the best way. Fried meatballs and this mozzarella rice stick thingie, omg to die for. We weren't too hungry so we shared an entree to get actually be able to try desserts. We had a guinea fowl ravioli in a wine sauce that was incredible. I wanted that dish to last forever. Until dessert arrived. A panna cotta that was out of this world and this magical roasted pear crumble with a creamed ricotta. Yeas. Smooth perfectly creamed ricotta. We stayed a bit longer and finished our wine only wishing we had found this restaurant a day or two sooner in our trip.

First lunch after arriving from the airport and train to Rome Terminii station. Took an Uber Black to this place since it's close by to the Colisseum. Restaurant was packed at 2pm but we only waited 15 minutes. Service was excellent but the food was much to be desired. Ordered a 15 Euro pork medallion dish and 10 Euro Amatricani pasta which were both undercooked. Pork was raw inside and the pasta was tough to chew. My GF had a belly and diarrhea from the food. Not a good way to spend time in Rome! Go somewhere else.

Il Bocconcino is just a few minutes away from the Colosseum and a perfect spot to stop after sight-seeing all day. As with most quality restaurants in Italy, Il Bocconcino closes between lunch and dinner so keep that in mind when planning your trip. The décor is very farmhouse chic and adds to the relaxed atmosphere. We arrived about an hour before closing which was plenty of time but I did feel a little rushed after the kitchen had to remake my dish. I don't remember much else from my meal other than the bucatini and wine. The bucatini was delicious and probably the best red sauce I had while in Italy. The wine, which was local to the area, was terrible (very sulfuric). Overall, the service was friendly, the food was good, and the restaurant was pretty easy to find. I'd recommend stopping by before/after your Colosseum tour out of convenience but it certainly is not worth making a special trip for.

Food was decent, but a bit too salty. Various types of pasta you don't see often. Service was ordinary, quite slow.

Went here for the music, was completely blown away by everything this place had to offer…read more For starts the sushi was easily some of the best sushi I have ever had, it was simple but every ingredient was fresh and thought through. The edamame we had was soft and boiled/spiced to perfection. Originally we were just going to get a roll and a bowl but after trying the food we immediately got another roll. The staff was a whole new level of mind blowing. To start the waiter made us feel exactly where we belonged (even though we were a little underdressed for a classier restaurant). You could've just sat there and watched the bar tender all night, she looked like she was a professional I wouldn't want anyone else making me drinks. The atmosphere of the whole bar embodied a classic American jazz bar, even the other people and tables we were by were friendly and really added to the whole experience. Was very well worth the price and couldn't recommend any other restaurant.

A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.
