Start with the mussels, steaming, garlicky, and swimming in a broth you'll want to drink. Tip the bowl and go for it. Or, ask for bread for the famous soak. Then comes the Cacio e Pepe. A Roman classic. So peppery and creamy. This is the best Cacio e Pepe I've ever had.

We explored the area more and found the highest rated restaurant in that area with 80k reviews! I bothered a couple eating there and they were not impressed with their dinner also. Then where do we get good authentic Italian food?? In our frustration I started asking any locals I can find. This young lady spoke enough English to let us know. She even had to call her friend for the location and name. It was not busy. The staff is older and looks like part of the good fellas cast. The decor looks like it too. Haha what an adventure. We were full from previous meal so only order two dish. Rigatoni democratic and seafood risotto . Omg this is it!! So delicious and tastes authentic . We took a picture with the owner I think and I told him he must be famoso! There were pics on the walls.

We split a salad that was big enough for a meal, my wife had the bolognese, and I had the steak. It was super rare, but as I cut into it, I would lay it onto the stone to allow it to cook a bit more. I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. I was going to tip a few euros because we enjoyed ourselves so much, but decided not to because of the way it was presented to the party before us.

We had a calzone and traditional spaghetti and both were delicious. I don't even know how to describe the calzone. It was unlike anything I've had before but SO good. I literally cleaned my plate with the last of the breading from it. The owner/chef was Luca. He was upset with the host because he had burned the plastic on the outdoor tent as he had placed a heater too close to it. To be honest, he seemed like a bit of a jerk, but his food was freaking delicious.

Without reservations we were warmly accepted and led to an upscale dining room decorated with photos of famous people holding up their hand. That was certainly something we could discuss while waiting for our food. Life also has outdoor seating but on this warm evening we were glad to sit inside. I knew this was going to be a first-class meal, and it was. Service was great, getting us started with water and soft drinks (with ice!!!) as we decided what to order. My wife selected one of their black truffle dishes, I had a large sample, and it was Wow. I had a bad experience with Spaghetti Carbonara a couple of days ago at a different restaurant and chose their Artisan Spaghetti Carbonara to try the dish again, and this one was delicious. The creaminess, with bits of salty meat, gave this meal spectacular flavor. To finish I had a glass of berries topped with salt and lemon juice. I love fresh berries and I loved this interesting ending to a memorable meal.

I can recommend everything that we had with truffles on it. The one thing that we wouldn't get again was the tempura battered squash flowers. The carbonara with truffles was great and we liked the ravioli with truffles.

The chef/owner runs a cooking class and has written a book or two so it's got that going for it. These side hustles are very well advertised and look like a fun time. Maybe a cooking class for a future visit? For dinner we shared a Margarita pizza and one of us had Cacio e Pepe. Along with pizza goes a beer, so I had a Moretti draft. The food was prepared very well and was delicious! We found later that they have a second location about 2 blocks away. We went by it later and saw it was much more crowded (closer to the Trevi Fountain!). Overall, it's a cute place with pretty good food. I recommend trying it.

We asked the staff at the hotel but they only wanted to recommend their restaurant. We almost gave in until we finally go a recommendation from the bartender. You know they always know what's up! After a short walk from our hotel we spotted That's Amore! A cute, quaint restaurant conveniently located! I wasn't expecting much as I know they say there are a lot of "tourist traps." I was socially so pleasantly surprised! I didn't want to write this review until I tried a few other pasta spots and I can confidently say this is one of the better ones...much better! I tried the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e funghi porcini( €13) as it was one of the few pastas that came with handmade noodles. And truffles?! A no brainer. The fettuccine came out perfectly al dente and don't even get me started on the sauce... DROOL! My dad liked it so much we signed up for their cooking class for tomorrow. I hope it's just as epic!
