After a 15 hour trip and a +9 hour time change ... all we wanted to do it sleep. Somehow we mustered the courage to resist and find a place for dinner. We asked the staff at the hotel but they only wanted to recommend their restaurant. We almost gave in until we finally go a recommendation from the bartender. You know they always know what's up! After a short walk from our hotel we spotted That's Amore! A cute, quaint restaurant conveniently located! I wasn't expecting much as I know they say there are a lot of "tourist traps." I was socially so pleasantly surprised! I didn't want to write this review until I tried a few other pasta spots and I can confidently say this is one of the better ones...much better! I tried the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e funghi porcini( €13) as it was one of the few pastas that came with handmade noodles. And truffles?! A no brainer. The fettuccine came out perfectly al dente and don't even get me started on the sauce... DROOL! My dad liked it so much we signed up for their cooking class for tomorrow. The food was amazing. The service was amazing and the restaurant was very cute. It was by far the best service that we have had since we've been in Italy, but I believe that's up to the server themselves. We were jetlagged so we didn't eat all of our food and our server seemed concerned, but he boxed it up for us wonderfully. I ordered the lasagna and it had a layer of oil on top but honestly, you couldn't even tell. I was definitely hesitant at first, but it was amazing. My new husband () ordered the daily risotto, which was also good, but definitely not as good as my lasagna we got the bruschetta as well and it did not disappoint. This was our first meal in Rome, very close to the hotel and main areas to see. I had a bit of high hopes for this restaurant based on reviews (not just from Yelp but also Google). We were very hungry as we had just landed from our flight (hence the three plates of food). Upon arrival, they asked if we had reservations, which we did not, but that was not a problem! We were immediately seated, but I will say it was a little cramped. They gave us a corner table right next to the door and nook area. The servers seemed nice as well, very welcoming. The pizza was great; the dough was crispy and soft at the same time. The Fettuccine al tartufo e porcini was delicious. I loved all the mushrooms in there. Needless to say, the first two dishes were top tier. Unfortunately, the carbonara was not the best. It had a very porky taste that was overpowering everything else. It was also very, very yellow. Funny enough, a friend who had gone months prior got the carbonara from here too, and it was not as yellow. I was a little nervous to try carbonara at any other restaurant due to this experience... Only DOWNSIDE was, staff weren't accommodating, at least for us. With so many restaurants serving good Italian food, it's so hard to decide on where to go eat sometimes. After narrowing down a few places, we decided on checking out That's Amore. When we arrived, we waited to be seated as we had no reservations but it didn't take too long. A couple in front of us sat at the bar so that is an option for those who don't want to wait or like dining at the bar. We did get seated only a minute or two after them so we got lucky with a table. Customer service was quick and they all speak English from what we observed. We took a look at the menu and decided to get the same thing. This was a first all trip. We ordered the Spaghetti ai frutti di mare. I didn't think I was going to be full so I also ordered a Prosciutto e Bufala. It didn't take long for our drinks and the Prosciutto e Bufala to arrive. After I finished the Antipasti, they quickly took away our plates and a few minutes later, our pasta arrived. It looked and smelled great! Mink's plate looked a lot better than mine so they definitely need to work on consistency. I also got a lot of shells with no seafood inside. Highly recommend visiting this place when in Italy! My friend found it as highly recommended on Google and it was right near the Travi Fountain. We found their original location but they were completely booked. Lucky for us, a waitress told us there was a 2nd location near this original location. She actually went out of her way to walk us to the other location. Ended up getting the Lasagna di mia Nonna. The lasagna is already cooked (mushy). I highly recommend getting this dish. I was recommended by a colleague of mine to come to this place when I am in Rome. It did not disappoint. I went to the one location, but there was a long line to get in. I asked the hostess how long the wait is and she said at least one hour. She then offered to take us to their other location, which is a two minute walk away. She even escorted us over there to make sure we did not get lost. We just walked right in to their second location and seated right away. Was craving pizza and decided to give this place to try because of the much rave reviews on TripAdvisor. Is is a good walk from the fountain Trevi, but well worth it. I had the fried calamari for my appetizer, which was nice and lightly crisp with marinara sauce. For pizza I ordered the margarita pizza which came in this cute heart shaped. The first time I went, the waitress was a little rude but she took care of our table of six. Intro: When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's amore! I couldn't help it. After walking for hours upon hours in the heat of the summer in Rome (98 degrees), I was looking for a spot for dinner on a Friday night that was close by. Despite having an English name (which made me skeptical that it's a tourist trap), the restaurant has good reviews and it's one of the most reviewed restaurants in Rome so I got over my initial hesitation. Service (3.5/5): I will say that I judge service with an American lens. Service at restaurants in Europe tends to be slower, less friendly, and less efficient than service in the states. While this restaurant fit the bill in terms of speed and efficiency, the staff was a little more friendly than average. They also have free WiFi which is clutch for international travelers. Ambiance (4/5): Like most restaurants in Rome, they have al fresco dining but this Italian restaurant also has a large interior by Italian standards. I was seated at the bar. There are six or so seats at the bar which is also a plus as most restaurants in Rome don't have bar seating. Drinks (4/5): I didn't drink alcohol on this visit though I always recommend going with red or white house wine, Italian beer, or an Aperol Spritz while in Italy. Instead, I went with an Italian soda (I forget the exact name but it starts with a "C") and a pear juice. Food (3/5): I started off with the suppli al telefono appetizer. This was my first time trying this Roman classic. Think of it as similar to a croquette. The one I ordered was fried and stuffed with tomatoes and cheese. You only get one but it was "delicioso." From there, I went with the spaghetti carbonara, another Roman classic. One of my favorite pasta dishes, this was a generous portion by Italian standards. They also bring you fresh parmesan which is always a nice touch. Unfortunately, the sauce was too salt heavy. As a result, it didn't stack up with other carbonaras I've had elsewhere. Overall: A charming restaurant with a large menu. But one that was average in my book. read more

The mussels in the seafood pasta were not fresh at all, and the pizza tasted exactly like those cheap frozen ones you get in supermarkets. But what really shocked me was the service. The food took forever to come out, and while we were still eating--just because we glanced at our phones for a bit--a waiter actually came over and snapped at us, asking aggressively, "Are you guys working on food?" I was stunned. And to top it off, I ordered tiramisu but it never came. They didn't remind me or apologize, and the receipt had no itemized prices--just one total amount. Loved the experience and food at this restaurant. My wife and I went with our two year old son. It is one of the few places that had high chairs or booster seats. I wouldn't say it is a kid friendly spot necessarily, because it is very small and close quarters inside. Luckily ours was having a good day. For my meals, I went with the fettuccine al pesto alla genovese. You could definitely tell the pasta was homemade. The pesto sauce that topped it was so flavorful! This place we found on our first night in Rome. Yes, it has an English name and is somewhat close to the touristy spots, but in passing the food looked good and the reviews were good. We had a great time - our waiter seemed more interested in the tables with the ladies but we were at the bar and our bartenders killed it for service. Our dishes came out fast and were super tasty. We split some suppli and fried zucchini flowers. The flowers were stuffed with cheese and anchovies which made for quite the flavor combo. Tangy and yet smooth. The sauce, the pasta, the octopus, the guanciale were 10/10. The Polpo with Marinara also delicious. Not most photogenic but still drooling over both dishes. The food, service, and ambiance....everything was divine! Walking the streets of Rome on our first night, we came across That's Amore. There was a line. First sign, this place is legit. Service from the get go was amazing! The manager greeted us to get our name for a table. Before you know it, we were seated. Authentic and freshly made Italian food. We were in heaven. Glancing at our fellow foodies, every dish looked delicious. We were waited on right away. I kick myself because we ate here twice during our 4 night stay and had the same waiter and for the life of me, I can't remember his name. He was the best! We ordered a house red wine to pair with our pizza and lasagna dishes. Can I just tell you, this was the best lasagna I have ever had. As cliche as that sounds, it's the truth. It was excellent. The diabalo pizza, just as good. On our last night in Rome, we felt it was fit to leave Rome on a high note, and eat one last meal with That's Amore. This time my husband had the spaghetti bolognese and I had the fettuccine. Drool city!!!!!!!! Spectacular fettuccine!!!! I wanted a second plate, as piggy as that sounds, that's how good it was. My husband was moaning while eating his dish, which signifies it was damn good. Chef's kiss! This time, on our last night, we sat outdoors. The weather was permitting and it was a lovely way to end our trip and enjoy our last night. We will be chasing this taste for the rest of our lives or at least until we return to.... That's Amore.
