A great place for fresh seafood in Rome! When you walk in they basically have their own fish market just inside the door with freshly caught fish, shrimp, squid and mussels all on ice. They had amazing appetizers and the squid pasta was delicious. In addition the service was top notch. My wife forgot her purse and we didn't figure it out until the next day. We called and they kept it safe until we returned to pick up later that afternoon. read more

Definitely a locals place. Most of the people there were locals. The complementary foccaccio en a paper bag was amazing . We had the mixed fried seafood appetizer. Totally amazing. Seemed like most tables also ordered this app. Our two pasta dishes were excellent too. Pacherri with langostino and ravioli with shrimp. We added a green salad that was more than enough for two. It was mostly iceberg lettuce with arugula. Only dish we didn't care for was the cannolo scarosca. Service was good. Only weird thing was that they told us we had to finish in an hour or less. We agreed. The restaurant was empty when we got there at noon but started to fill up after 1230. The one star is because they are really good at making you understand you're not welcome! So, no hypocrisy at least. You better be a local, or show off your wealth, or you won't even be talked to. What a sad experience. I have no idea of how the food is, because I felt so unwelcome that I just walked out after waiting for a while sitting at my table. The waiter was welcoming literally everyone else, and taking orders from quite a bunch of tables that had arrived AFTER I did. I did wonder if it had to do with my looks. I read a very bad review before coming here, but I chose to blow it off when I saw their overall high rating. We walked in, they sat us immediately and offered water (which we accepted) and I noticed there were no other customers in the restaurant. My wife told me later that she heard one of the staff mention the word "Americans". Nonetheless, we sat at the table for 10 minutes and no one brought water or even bothered to come to our table for any reason. I'm sure they are great for customers they value, but they clearly don't like Americans. read more

La Pesceria sits on a quiet street away from the crowds, but it offers a menu of amazingly fresh seafood. To start, we had the Saute Misto, a mixture of huge mussels and clams in a light, salty, seafood broth; and the Insalata di Mare Vera, a mixture of chopped squid, octopus, celery, carrots, and arugula in a light oil-based dressing and topped with crushed pistachios. The fish of the day was the Pescatrice, or monkfish, wrapped in parchment paper with mussels, tomatoes, and potatoes and cooked to perfection. The fresh monkfish was taken directly from the ice boxes sitting at the front of the restaurant and was cut to order, and everything was fresh and delicious! My favorite dish (though not by far) was the Insalata di Mare Vera, and the broths of the other two dishes were perfect for dipping with the soft bread rolls that came on the side. read more

This is a small fabulous restaurant in the Via Veneto neighborhood. Reservations are definitely needed as it is a very small place. The fish is so fresh I am pretty sure it was flopping right before I enjoyed it! There is not a set menu; rather you check out the fresh fish selections in the front ( there were 5 varieties this evening as well as scallops). You select your fish, they weigh it and charge by the gram. For appetizer I had the 3-carpaccio daily selection which was fantastic. It was Beautifully plated with EVOO, chopped melon and pistachios. For entree I had the Italian version of Red Snapper and It arrived de-boned. Side dishes are ala carte - I had the sautéed chicory and patates al forno with rosemary and olive oil. Great seafood-centric restaurant in an off-the -beat path in Rome. We both had the tuna tartare to start. The tuna was melt in your mouth. The fun part is picking your fish from the iced fish display and then telling them how you want it prepared. I chose grilled with a side of grilled veggies. Fish comes cooked and fileted to your table. It's worth noting that my wife and I were the only non-Italians in the restaurant. I always take that as a good sign we're in a non-touristy authentic place. read more

This restaurant deserves a solid 3.75 stars. The vibe of this seafood Italian restaurant located near Piazza Barberini is coastal causal, despite being in the city. As soon as you make it through the sliding front door you'll encounter a cold seafood display in the front of the restaurant reminiscent of being at the market. There is seating inside with seats close together or on of the sidewalk outside. Once seated you'll be informed of the seafood choices and plates of the day. A variety of menu items, recommend 2 per person. The seafood was fresh, the dishes good however left something to be desired a bit. Alrighty Yelpers, this is it. In our week in Italy, this was definitely the best restaurant of the trip! In fact, my partner believes it's the best restaurant he has EVER had. We stumbled upon La Pesceria Barberini in an effort to find dinner in our first night in Rome. We walked in to the sliding doors and felt already the cozy vibe of the restaurant. We were excited to see the fresh fish on our right and to be immediately greeted by staff. There is one employee (Giulia I believe) who can speak English very well who was able to guide us through the menu and the process of the "fishes of the day" specials. She weighed various seafood for us to explain and give us a good idea of the pricing. It made so much sense and we loved hearing about her opinions of the different seafood. Then it was time to begin ordering. Started off with the oysters, since it's been a while since I've had them. These three oysters we got were very large, and some of the freshest I've ever tasted. The lemon was even of note, which was fragrant and added a nice zest to the oyster. Then we had cuttlefish and langoustine grilled. I've never had either but now I want more. Both were cooked perfectly and the natural flavor shined through. We then had two freshly grilled scallops from the display. Then we ordered the turbot special with thinly cut potatoes and zuchinni flowers, along with a full sole with lemon cream sauce. The turbot dish was unique and definitely something I never had before. The portion was definitely plenty, no need to worry about small sizes unless you ask for them! I was surprised that my partner enjoyed the lemon cream sauce because he doesn't usually order or like lemon-based things. But it tasted so good he gave an exception, and he finished the whole fish. Overall, everything was delicious, fresh, and cooked very well. Best part of all was we didn't break the bank for eating there and going "wild" ordering sporadically thinking we were spending hundreds of dollars. We came out of it very satisfied and wondering if we'll come back a second time during our trip. We're thankful they took us without a reservation, but know to get one the next time! The restaurant filled up super quickly while we were eating and we knew to do it for future visits. This surely was a memorable restaurant. We thank Giulia for her help in making it happen. Fresh seafood and welcoming environment. We tried the seafood salad, which had an abundance of squid, octopus, and cuttlefish and little of the veggies. It was marinated in a lemon vinaigrette, so perfect with the sweetness of the seafood. For our entrees, we had the squid salad with arugula, clam with spaghetti, pasta with shrimp, and grilled cuttlefish that I picked out at the front of the store. All were amazing. We didn't order fish but they appeared fresh. Must try when in Rome. Definitely have the grilled cuttlefish. read more

3.5 stars. We decided to dine here after receiving a recommendation from our hotel's receptionist. We were told the wait will be ten minutes, but we ended up waiting about 40 minutes for a table for two. While we were waiting they offered us two glasses of bubbles each to make up for the long wait. When we were seated, we decided to order two of their special oysters (5 euros each), the seafood cioppino, and the fish soup which serves two people. The oysters were buttery and sweet! Delicious! The cioppino was not bad, except the larger shrimps were not so fresh (the flesh was sticking onto the shell and the shrimps were pale and discolored. The tuna tartar was served with passion fruit, orange and pistachios. The fish soup is basically a large plate of mussels, clams, half a fish each, shrimps and squid, in red marinara sauce and served with bread. The shrimps' flesh again sticking onto its shell, so they did not taste too great. Overall, the hospitality there was great and I would come back again to try other items on their menu. read more

Food is fresh, service is friendly to non italian speakers. Fun quirks from what I am used to , warm bread in a brown paper bag. Asked for a green salad and grilled vegatables. The veggies were great: egg plant, zuccinni and bell peppers, but the salad was humorous just a bowl of chopped romaine and nothing else. A little oil salt and pepper made it nice, but the absence of tomato, onion or anything else made us all smile. Make sure your dish has pasta with it if you want pasta. The outside seating is very nice. Everything is clean. I would go again and recommend positively. read more

Overall, the food was ok. I had the Pacchero seafood pasta. The bread/cover fee was 2 Euro and the bread was dry, but it is Italian bread. The service was meh. Server did not seem to put a lot of attention to service, usually in Italy service is over the top. Not so much here. I ate outside and the flies were atrocious. Yes, I will take that as my fault for sitting outside but because I claim responsibility for that I am giving it a 4 instead of a 3 star review. read more

It had been raining hard all day and it literally dampened our spirits. Attempting to seek shelter at the Capuchin catacombs nearby I advised we grab some lunch here as it was packed. I was so glad i researched this place. Stepping in we felt like the fish beautifully displayed in ice..i.e cold and wet. The decor was amazing with ship parts and marine colours. Gladly we took a seat and browsed the menu. As to be expected it was all fish dishes..I asked for sea urchins for starters but they we sold out. Instead we went for the mains..i had the seafood pasta with courgette flowers and my mum clams in spaghetti.. Food did take awhile considering there were just two of us in the restaurant however I took this as a good sign. Eventually after sipping our white wine it arrived It was presented beautifully and the prawns were so big and sweet. My mums spaghetti tasted freshly made too with the biggest clams I'd seen in a while. The only negative was my pasta was a little under done and was a little chewy and some more seafood would have been nice but the flavours were incredible. We also shared a tasty tiramisu..well my mum gobbled most of it..anyway they did sneak €3 water on to the bill which i stated we had only the wine..she apologised and removed this and reduced our bill again to and even €40..beautiful food in a lovely setting. We walked in early at around 5:30 pm and the place was empty and the chefs are just cleaning the squids at their seafood stand. Because of the high reviews we've read about this place, we decided to stay and eat. To our surprise, their food was fantastic. We were recommended the Raw Fish appetizer plate and we were not disappointed. It was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted, and trust me, I am a very picky-eater because I cook a lot myself. We also ordered raw oysters on the half shell and the mixed sautéd clams and muscles ...OMG... superb sauce, fresh, and cooked to perfection. It comes with garlic toasts which were the best bread we've tasted in our 6 days of dining out in Italy from Florence, Siena, San Gimignano to Rome. Then our last dish was the Seafood Rice, large enough for 2 people. The manager paired a delicious glass of white wine that went well with all our dishes.
