There are so many restaurants clustered together on this car-free strip, you realize they can't all be superstars. Sadly, the pizzas here were just OK (hence the 3 star). However, location is great right near the gay bars with tons of people watching opportunity. Pizza Quattro Formaggi: So it was very cheesy, as advertised. It even appeared that they four types of cheeses were distinctly put on the pizza in different areas, rather than a tight blend. However, the limp and slightly soggy crust took away from the experience. Couldn't even hold a slice probably since it would flop. Pizza Salsiccia: While I do enjoy the combination of sausage and potatoes on a pizza, this didn't quite hit right. The potatoes were in large unwieldy wedges, whereas thin slices are usually better. What did I expect coming to an Italian place in Amsterdam? Well at least a decent meal maybe? This was far off from that! Red flag number one, the man working in the front was trying to lure people in from the streets passing by! Red flag number two, the man didn't write down our order (which is totally fine) but he took one table before us and then ours and then came back 5 minutes later asking to repeat our whole order! Then when our main dishes came out my friend who ordered the prawn and asparagus risotto was served pasta with shrimp! When we finally did get the risotto it was barely cooked but the asparagus was mushy. My Penne All'Arrabbiata wasn't spicy and the pasta was barely cooked (not even al dente) but more hard. We also started with mozzarella in Carrazzo and it was awful. It was basically a grilled cheese with no flavor and cold sauce poured on the top. Not enough sauce for the whole thing so it was really not great. Please don't stop here no matter how much the man convinces you on the street. Please. read more

I know, I know, having Italian in the Dutch country wasn't an ideal. It was pretty late and most restaurants in that area were closed, so we took our chance with this place. We started with an appetizer which was Vitello Tonnato. It was my first time having this dish, and I was loving it. Their daily specials looked very good as well, so we ordered Linguine with Scallops and Papadelle with Wild Boar. Those two dishes were spot on. So now you know, if you were too high and forgot to eat dinner, you can always come to this place! read more

We had looked at several menus and found this place to try. Atmosphere - We got there a little early so we had the pick of tables. We sat at the window and watched the world. Food Drink - I went with the classic, Heineken the large size. It went down with ease after a long day of walking. Dinner - I was the only one at the table that went with pizza. Piccante / Salami pizza for less than ten Euros which was a good price. The pizza had some good heat to it, not too hot but enough to let you know it was there. I enjoyed every bit of it. Dessert - The four us split the tiramisu. I enjoyed it. Service - Since we were early I think we ended up with a team of waiters. All were great to deal with. Future - Sure. read more

Il Primo certainly isn't my favorite restaurant when it comes to interior design. The dark tiled floor gives the room a cool character but the tables, chairs and decoration blend well with it. However, what I give my four stars for is the food and the service. We were at Il Primo for lunch and the waiter was very friendly and attentive yet unobtrusive. And that was necessary. We were a group of 4 women and it took us some time chatting before we were ready to order. As a starter one of my friends had the carpaccio di polpo which was served with a thin spread of olive oil, seasoned with fresh white pepper and decorated with rucola, a very tasty combination. We all ordered variants of tagliatelle as main courses. They arrived directly from the pan of the chef, still steaming and tasted delicious. You could tell that the pasta were home made. One friend ordered desert but the waiter surprised us with a plate to share. Overall, Il Primo is a nice experience of good italian food and hospitality. read more

Great starter soup, fresh and favorable. Very good thin crust pizza. If you're an American and order more than two toppings, ask them to mix it up. Otherwise comes out one topping per quadrant. Service was efficient and friendly. Food took a bit longer than expected but overall a good place. Name on the door now says Pasta Primo. Waiter said the go by a lot of xx primo monikers. Aside from the extremely friendly but slow service, this is fantastic. Large menu and generous portions of excellent Italian food. Some of the best sangria we've had perfectly compliments that array of salads and entrees. The seafood dishes were superb as were the pastas, including the truffle Parmesan tagliatelle. Large salads expertly dressed and they have gluten-free pasta. Our table of four enjoyed this meal. read more

I came here with 5 friends tonight and was very disappointed considering the high prices: - service took very long, from walking into the place until we got the main dish, more than 1 hour had passed - the white wine from the wine card was warm, maybe 20°C instead of 12-14°C: not worth 27-28€ - we had antipasti for an appetizer but we got only served very little bread for 6 people; when we ordered more, we got 4 pieces - for 6 people?! - the waiter eavesdropped and commented on what we were saying - they didn't serve tap water but only expensive San Pellegrino The lasagna was quite good but some dishes (especially pasta) were served almost cold. Almost all dishes were missing spices and something special to it. The white wine sauce of one pasta was non-existent. In conclusion: very sorry, but next time we visit Amsterdam this restaurant will be at the very bottom of our choices. read more

Small but very cute place. The waitress welcomes you in both languages English and Italien, which makes you feel like you are in Italy. The portions are just right for one person. Very delicious lasagna and I like the homemade red wine. It's also a lot to choose from a menu. Just one thing I didn't like that we had to wait a little longer as usual. I found this place to be a total tourist trap. We waited for over an hour and 20 Minutes for a simple pasta and pizza. The waiters didn't seem to care a bit. After we complained about the wait we were told the pizza would be taken off our check but it never was. Overall, would not recommend. read more

This restaurant received a 9- out of 10 from a famous food critic. I am afraid something changed since then.... Let me start off with the positives: nice, cozy atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. The food was kinda confusing though. The four of us ordered different dishes, all of varying quality. From an amazing soup to a tasteless truffle pasta with over cooked meat. 4 star (or 9-) dishes are still present, but so are 2 stars. DO NOT GO HERE! I have never felt such a need to flag others out of this place. We ordered pastas and an eggplant parmesian. It took a solid hour with only a few other small tables and us.
