    Arrosto de seitan
    Molly F.

The seitan roast "arrosto de seitan" was one of the best vegan dishes I've ever had. So much flavor, hearty and so comforting. A nice break from the pasta and soup that make up the only vegan options elsewhere. Also had some fruit crumble pie that was excellent. Adorable atmosphere with a magical outdoor garden. Wonderful service, employees give helpful recommendations for the all-Italian menu. This is a MUST for any vegans or vegetarians visiting Florence -- even your carnivore friends will be very very pleased here.

Totally awesome vegetarian place. Loved the couscous dish. It was great to go to a 100% vegetarian place! The place is nice and cosy too.

Prices are good and so is the food. Has a sort of home-style charm, both in the seating and the food. I would definitely return.

Panini Toscani sits right near the Duomo, making it one of the most conveniently located (and…read morepopular) quick bites in Florence. The exterior is small and charming, with a line spilling out the door, while the interior is cozy and bustling with limited seating. The vibe is lively, welcoming, and very interactive, with opportunities to taste their various meats and cheeses. There's Italian and English menus to peruse before you create your customizable sandwich; the amount of options is almost overwhelming, though sampling can help alleviate this "problem." We arrived at around noon on a Wednesday, and waited around fifteen minutes; the line moves fast, despite being out the door! You select from a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, and four additional toppings; they will then lightly toast your sandwich, and you pay at the front counter. I opted for their Ciabatta Toscana with Porchetta (roast pork), Stracciatella (a shredded creamy cheese similar to burrata), rucola (arugula), pepperoni sotto aceto (peppers in vinegar), pepperoni grigliati (grilled peppers), and melanzane (eggplant). My panini was a wonderful blend of textures and flavors; the bread had a crisp exterior and a pillowy-soft interior, the roast pork was succulent and well-seasoned with an herby crust, the straciatella added a creamy richness, and the various vegetables packed an acidic punch. The sandwich was also quite a generous portion, leaving me full for hours. In terms of price point, I believe I ended up paying around €12, which was quite affordable, especially given the central location, interactive experience, and generous portions: excellent value for a high-quality quick meal.

You walk into this tiny little sandwich shop and you better be ready to order immediately. First came the bread selection, then the meat, then the cheese. Pointing at things seemed to work best for me. I managed to say "Italian bread" while pointing to the top shelf, and when I pointed at the meat I asked, "That's pork, okay?" Deep breath... good start. Then they asked me about cheese. Hold on now, I'm still mentally processing my bread choices -- I'm not prepared for this speed-ordering competition. I finally said, "Whatever your best seller is," and they slapped on some kind of white cheese that I still cannot identify. Last step: toppings. The lady behind the counter pointed at something green and said, "This goes well with pork." I said, "Hit it." Finally, ordering complete. I grabbed my drink, paid the old man at the door who was running the whole operation with grace and happiness, and found the only outside seat available. Good timing too, because halfway through my panini the line was 10+ deep. That first bite was fantastic. The crunch and crumble of the bread somehow lasted all the way to the final bite. I added tomatoes, and the green stuff had this sweet flavor with a hint of dill. Whatever it was... it worked. This panini absolutely lived up to the Yelp hype. And to the old man running the place -- you do good work. Don't overwork yourself.

From the outside, it looks like a grand, iron-and-glass structure typical of European markets; inside, it opens into a bustling, multi-level space filled with food vendors, communal tables, and constant movement. The vibe is energetic, social, and slightly chaotic in a fun way - perfect for grazing, group dining, or trying multiple cuisines in one visit (from Italian to American to Mexican!). We stopped in for a quick lunch at around 2pm on a Wednesday; there was plenty of seating at high-top tables, and QR codes on paper menus make it easy to explore all the different food vendor options. It's also a fun activity to peruse the market, taking in different sights, smells, and flavors. All of us ended up opting for Schiacciatas (large Italian sandwiches that are a staple in Florence) from Massimiliano Parri, which all ended up ranging from €10-12, depending on toppings - yes, it's more expensive than what you'd get from a traditional schiacciateria, but you're also paying for the market's location and convenience. We appreciated the fact that they shave the meat right in front of you! My schiacciata came with freshly shaved ham atop crusty white bread, slathered with burrata cheese, and sprinkled with arugula and figs (I opted for no additional olive oil, since I found the ham quite rich already). I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, though I will say that the bread ended up cutting the roof of my mouth! All in all, Mercato Centrale is a bit touristy, but still miles better (and cheaper) than most "Italian" sandwich places you'd find in the US (pro tip: save your receipt for free use of their bathrooms). The variety can't be beaten, prices are reasonable for a central market, and it's steps from some of Florence's most iconic spots.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.
