With the constantly changing status of the health insurance market and the inevitable rise of costs, deciding which health insurance plan to purchase each year has become one of my least favorite activities. So, as per my usual health insurance routine, I was online browsing through my options at 1 am, feeling slightly uncertain about the decision I was about to make when I came across ilhealthagents.com as I was doing some research on a specific question. They had some great answers to my questions on their website and then all of the sudden *poof* the chat window pops up in the bottom right corner. I was skeptical, as I always am with chat room bubbles that promise to solve all of my problems but it was 1am and I figured "What the heck, why not?" First, I wondered what this would cost me. Fully expecting to chat with a robot or someone in a foreign country across the globe and be asked for my payment information, I asked that as my first question. Turns out it was free for the consumer (I believe the health insurance companies pay for their services). My next question was a very specific question about vision insurance since I have an eye issue that requires lots of maintenance. The agent I was speaking to didn't know the answer so he asked me to hold for a few minutes and literally went and *woke up* fellow agent and health insurance guru Ryan Kennelly at around 1am. This is how I knew for certain that the people I was talking to were, in fact, real. Ryan was fantastic: thorough and knowledgable. I had several very specific questions and he was able to answer all of them and also give me specific feedback in the context of each plan I was considering. He even made a few recommendations of his own. After I made my decision, we ended up talking briefly about how the folks at Illinois Health Agents were on call during the open enrollment period to ensure that all customers got the support they needed when selecting the best plan for their needs and budgets. We chatted a bit about life and our work too. On top of all of the good professional things, Ryan seems to also be a great guy. By the end I felt that I had all of the information that I needed and was able to make an informed decision on the health insurance plan that is best for my needs (it's working quite well in practice, too!) and I was able to rest easy knowing I got a plan that would fit all of my needs. If you need help at the darkest hour, Illinois Health Agents and specifically, Ryan Kennelly, will have your back. I'm glad I found them and will be going through them to purchase health insurance in the future. read more

We were trying to get new insurance in Illinois after moving from a different state. The initial phone call/set up was rather easy, but from there on out it was a total joke. We applied over two weeks before the 1st of the month, and still the insurance company didn't receive our application. This led to us making many calls to Illinois Health Agents, BCBS, and Healthcare.gov. Still waiting on confirmation of coverage... We paid $200 for their services, which we thought was free of charge. (On their website it literally says, "It's free! There is no cost of using our services. Insurance companies pay us a commission for each policy we sell.") That is a lot of money to be paid, and in return I expect them to figure out the problems that THEY caused and provide us with the correct information. Why should we be frantically calling multiple different places on the last day of the month trying to track down our application? Isn't this your job? Extremely disappointed, and quite annoyed. I have been a customer with Illinois Health Agents for several years now and couldn't be happier with the product and service. Ryan has been responsive when I had questions or concerns and, more importantly, he's always been honest with me. When I first bought my health coverage, he explained all the possible options, reviewed my general medical history and financial situation, and advised which options would best serve my needs. He actually highlighted a couple options that I had thought necessary, but that might not be cost-effective in my circumstances. He gave me all the information I needed to make informed decisions for myself. He was also very helpful with my questions covering the ACA changes over the past year and how they would affect me personally. Now, I'm getting married at the end of the month and will be transitioning to my fiance's work's coverage. Obviously, this is not ideal for their business, but I got straight answers and felt no pressure regarding the steps I need to take to make the transition. I have been thoroughly satisfied with my insurance coverage, its cost, and the personal customer care that I have received over the past few years. If the need ever arises, I will reach out to Ryan and Illinois Health Agents first. I would encourage anyone to do the same. read more

This is the second year I have used Ryan at Illinois Health Agents to help me to navigate Medicare, including my supplement plan and Part D. Before getting in touch with him, I was trying to figure it out on my own. Oh my! Not only is there a lot to wade through, confusion is ongoing. Ryan helped me to cut through all of that. He has access to all plans and does the research for you. As I write this, he is looking over my current coverage and comparing it to what is available to see if improvements in cost can be made. Before doing so, he asked me point-on questions: was there anything I was unhappy with with my current plan; what would I like to change or see improved? He can see my previous plan and drugs so that he can ensure that any recommendations he makes are appropriate for me. The changes he made last year were extremely helpful and I saved his information to call him during this Open Enrollment period. Thank heavens for Ryan! When my former medical coverage got even more insanely expensive, I sought an agent who could help me find something more reasonable. For one dependent, based on the excellent Yelp reviews, I decided to try Illinois Health Agents. Spoke to Cody Michael, and subsequently to Greg Gibbons, who quickly provided an application form and link to coverage options. I completed the application and sent it, but it seemed to require a physical signature. Greg told me not to worry, it would be electronically signed and sent on to the insurance company. Comes January 1, the old coverage has ended, and there's nothing from the insurance company. I called Greg a couple times, left messages, no response. Tried another number listed for the agency, left a message with a live person, but again got no callback. Meanwhile, the insurance company has sent letters: "Your application is incomplete" with no statement of what needs to be completed. No need to go into the insurance company's inability to explain the situation. Finally, I discovered that I knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who worked for the insurance company and might be able to straighten things out. After several phone calls and emails, that was done. Then I got a message from Cody, claiming credit for getting this set up. I don't think so. One more thing: When it came time to actually use the policy, the coverage turned out not to be as broad as Greg had represented it to be. I should have undertaken a more detailed investigation myself, but the reason people use brokers is so that they can get clear information without having to research everything. I was going to give only one star, but I decided on two stars since our political overlords have made medical insurance so complicated that even an unhelpful agent should not take the entire blame. read more

I have never utilized an insurance agent before. Recently I switched professions, and needed to purchase my own health coverage. I almost purchased new coverage on my own, when I saw Ryan Kennelly's name and office number listed on the side of the page. Seriously can't be thankful enough I called him. He found me a solid plan, with an affordable premium. Had I not called, I would be paying a premium close to three times the amount I am now. And then the unimaginable happened...after my application was submitted and approved, there was an error on the Blue Cross Blue Shield end, and my application was terminated shortly after it was approved and paid for. After literally HOURS on the phone with BCBSIL, I contacted Ryan and told him my dilemma (I'm stubborn and like to handle things myself). He reassured me that this would be reconciled. After numerous calls, and lengthy wait times, he got BCBSIL to fix their mistake, and followed through on his promise. Had I not gone through Ryan, this situation would have been an absolute nightmare, that would have cost me all arms and legs. He is a rock star, and I'm sure that the other agents in his group are just as awesome. Thank you Ryan. And anyone considering utilizing an agent, seriously go through these guys. They truly have your best interests at heart. read more

This company is beyond incompetent. I enrolled in a BCBS Medicare supplemental and Part D policies with "Ryan" of Illinois Health Agents. I needed to change the enrollment date from November 2018 to December 2018 when my employer asked that I stay on for an additional month during which I had employer based coverage. I filed the change of effective date form with Ryan and asked multiple times to be given access to the application but he made excuses; did not facilitate the access. According to BCBS, the original application had an effective date of January 1, 2019 (apparently Ryan's error). Without disclosing this error to me, Ryan submitted a corrected application with the November 1st date. When I requested the change to December 1st, BCBS determined that I had "changed the date too many times" and therefore required a premium payment for November (a month where I had employer coverage). In an email, Ryan promised to "personally reimburse you for the 1 month of overpayment". He then crafted a story that I had asked for multiple change dates (untrue, I asked for one change date). In subsequent emails he said "the check was in the mail" and later indicated that the reimbursement was BCBS's responsibility. The Part D application was rejected because I "was applying outside an applicable window" which is not true. Although I asked Ryan to clarify with the company, once again, he did not follow through. Beware. The service is highly unreliable. read more
