Look, shopping for pet insurance is never easy. Everything is more expensive than you want, and doesn't cover as much as you'd like. I researched many different companies for pet insurance, and ended up going with Prudent Pet mostly for the option to add on wellness coverage. So far I've made good use of the wellness coverage, and haven't had any issues making claims. Claims are processed quickly, and I haven't felt the need for any disputes. I've also claimed some emergency fees, but haven't reached the deductible yet (perfectly reasonable) so I'll have to update the review when I run into a situation like that--fingers crossed that it isn't for a while!! I went with four stars because it isn't the cheapest option out there, but so far I've been satisfied with the value. We'll see if that changes if/when I run into a true emergency situation that requires a larger payout. read more

I just got Prudent Pet insurance for my 11 1/2 year old Labrador retriever he was running 2 miles a day I took him to our Veterinary for a healthy wellness check up everything was good on him no concerns. Two day later my lab ears were light yellow he was hospitalized and sent home with his medication for Liver disease Prudent pet paid for everything I was thankful that I didn't have to worry about how I was going to keep his treatment going and the medication. "Caveat Emptor"-Buyer Beware! In my opinion and experience, ALL pet insurance companies are. "sketchy" at best! We have Trupanion illness and accident coverage for our healthy 4 year old STD Schnauzer from adoption. Every year premiums raised so Decided to find accident/ injury only policy and "Pawlicy" pet insurance on-line advice services, recommended Prudent Pet. I purchased policy 2 days ago. Today an email sent to me stated that I needed to forward all of our pets vet records to them! NEVER divulged to me by Stephanie the salesperson! So it's clear underwiring dep't will scrutinize our dogs records to see what they can EXCLUDE! She haa no chronic illnesses, had food related diarrhea that long since fully resolved, had one episode of pink eye from dirt in eye from dog park play and a "sprained" paw also from playtime that completely resolved, never xray by Vet for lack of clinical need and 5 days of oral NSAID. I demanded that customer care obtain our Vet records and get back to me with what record their reviewer will designate as pre-existing and NOT COVERED! This is injury/accident policy only! Car/dog attack/snakebite/ dog park injury/ poison substance injestion, etc.,.... These have ZERO to do with her all resolved one time Vet prior encounters! Its a SLEAZY business But has its benefits I wouldnt have been as angered by the record request had I been informed by sales staff!! I am a retired human surgeon in So. Calif. We've been looking for new pet insurance for our pets since relocating to a new state. PPI was my first choice initially, but I was a little shocked at the customer service. When I mentioned that I was considering canceling my new plan due hidden fees on an already very over-priced pet insurance. It was strongly insinuated that if money was the issue, check back when I could afford them. Easy decision: cancel. To be clear, I happily signed my very healthy, somewhat young cat up for the "Ultimate" plan (about $100/month). I canceled when I found out this "ultimate" coverage does not cover basic visits, labs, and vaccines/boosters. That plan is an additional $50/month. They should be ashamed of themselves for their customer service. Also, they customers cannot adjust billing information online -- you must call. They said they are looking into making things more online. This made claims and paperwork with them sound like a nightmare. Went to Pumpkin instead. Also well regarded on Trust Pilot, fully online, and a third of the cost. read more

They have jacked up rates, charge undisclosed fees, and I have been gaslit by their customer service agents and hung up on multiple times when trying to get a simple answer. This is the first time I've ever had pet insurance. Prudent Pet has been easy and good to work with. We got it when our puppy was 9 weeks old and new to our family. They've covered well checks, vaccinations and the 24/7 vet tech chat has helped us out a couple of times when it was an evening or weekend that our regular vet wasn't available. (Both times were non-emergency but needed to know what to do and they gave us great direction each incident.) I like that the cost is reasonable and that we were able to cover as much or as little as we wanted to. Just like every other insurance, we have to meet our deductible so it didn't offset costs for the one major dental surgery our pup needed for teeth extractions but it would have been at least partially reimbursed if we had met the deductible by that time. I don't mind paying monthly premiums knowing that we will be okay in the event of an actual emergency. read more

I shopped around a lot for different pet insurance providers and it's really hard to figure out what's covered and what's not (usually in the fine print). While Prudent Pet isn't the cheapest, they're the best. They cover just about everything except pre-existing conditions (but no pet insurance provider covers pre-existing conditions). They have a lot of options, I purchased the $10,000 limit with a $500 deductible and 90% reimbursement - but you can customize it to whatever you're comfortable with financially. Bottom line - top notch service/super-friendly staff. My claims were processed super-fast and my kitties are covered in case anything unexpected happens to them. I wish I knew about them before my sweet cat passed away in 2019. I would have saved a ton of money after everything we did for him. Great solid company - I would highly recommend them! read more

My dog got extremely sick (ended up being an Addusonian crisis). She was released from the vet on Wednesday. By the following Tuesday, my claim was settled and I had the check in hand. The process was extremely smooth. I was able to call with my questions and submit the additional documentation that was needed. My claim settlement also included a detailed document on how the amount of reimbursement was reached and what was excluded. Very, very happy and thankful for Prudent Pet.
