My dog got cancer and passed away in Feb 2024 but I used this pet insurance her whole life. They were excellent for years after my first review, took documents via their portal, paid within a week or shorter when claims were filed and this insurance sure paid off when Coco had to have a $9,000 splenectomy last December. They paid for all her surgeries (3 in total during her life) and paid for her many doctor visits after her spleen was removed. They even paid for the in home euthanasia. We had a policy that would cover $10,000 annually and we had a 20% copay after the deductible was met. It was affordable even though it went up every year as she aged but their customer service people were excellent and very kind when we lost her. read more

We adopted a dog from a rescue who uses 24PetWatch microchips, and when I went to register and swap his chip information I couldn't for the life of me see how to do that on their site without forking over money for a membership. All of the language on their website implies that you NEED a membership in order for them to maintain your pet's microchip registration. I wasn't expecting another $120 fee on top of everything else, but I wasn't going to leave him without that security blanket so I completed the membership and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward a few months and I'm noticing a consistent $19.95 that is being deducted by 24PetWatch every month, and I thought, "Wait, what? This was supposed to be $19.95/year!" Nope, this scammy, underhanded, unscrupulous company automatically subscribes you to "Pumpkin Wellness Club" after an initial free month. Is it my fault for not seeing that? Yes. However, that doesn't change the fact that this is such a cheap, smarmy huckster of a sales tactic that no reputable company would use it. No one is expecting some Russian nesting doll of a subscription - a subscription within a subscription. Get out of here with that garbage. So, when I went to find out what the charge was, that's when I also found out that the membership itself was wholly unnecessary. Over $200 later. I am giving one star because I can't give zero. I recently adopted 2 kittens from a local shelter and needed to change their micro chip into to my name and address. I tried doing it online, but was never able to get to the correct screen that I needed so I called the 866 number provided. At first, the rep was kind and helpful, however that changed after the info was updated. She then goes into this spiel about one year being $59.00, but the lifetime fee of $129.00 is once and done. Which one did I want? As I'm looking at a paper included in my adoption packet from my 24 pet watch stating the basic registration is free, I told her that is the one I wanted. Now she gets nasty immediately. Starts shaming my with questions like, "so if your pet escapes, you DON'T want us to call you? I sat in stunned silence for a moment, trying to think of the best way to get my point across. I said," this registration packet info is showing a free service. If my cat gets our, I will be the one calling you. I shouldn't have to pay for that. And since I have only $2.00 in my bank account, it's the picky one I can afford right now. SHE HANGS UP THE PHONE ON ME!!!!!! how incredibly rude and unprofessional. I immediately went to their website to place a review and what do you know? You can relive your story on how heroic they were, helping you get your pet back, but no area to voice any negativity. Rarely write reviews, but the call I had earlier with a customer service rep left such a bad taste in my mouth, I had to. I adopted a cat 2 weeks ago from the Humane Society. The cat was chipped & I was told the chip just needed to be registered through 24Pet Watch. The people at the Humane Society specifically told me I did not need to pay for any of the add ons they might try to sell me, and that the service was free. I have another pet microchipped & registered through 24Pet Watch, and was able to set up the account myself without paying for any unnecessary add ons. When I went to register my new cat, it said the microchip number was already registered & that I should call to fix the issue. The customer service rep I spoke to was initially friendly and helpful & transferred the chip to my account, but while she was "waiting for the accounts to merge," she gave me the pushiest, progressively more aggressive and nasty sales pitch I have ever received. After telling her multiple times that I did not wish to add on any of the services she was trying to sell me, she said "so you don't want us to notify you if your pet is lost," "you know, losing a pet is like losing your whole world," and "it's really very cheap." Even her tone was nasty. Avoid if you can. I called customer service for help and was greeted by someone who started out polite, but quickly turned pushy and passive-aggressive. Despite the fact that I registered my dogs microchip five years ago and even logged in to update my home address once before, she insisted I do it all over again. Fine, whatever. Then came the sales pitch--some membership bundle, "Pet Academy" add-ons, random coupons... none of which I asked for. I just wanted one thing: to make sure that if my dog ever got lost, his microchip would work and I'd be notified. Instead of answering that, she jumped straight to asking, "Mastercard or Visa?" Excuse me? I asked whether that basic service required payment, and she said yes--implying that if I didn't pay, my dog's microchip wouldn't be reactivated. She even said in a passive aggressive tone 'well I hope you get some protection for your dog' or something along those lines. Seriously? This wasn't about the money--I spend more on his food every month than I do on myself. This was about being pressured into paying for services I don't want or need. I hung up, tried to reset my password again and since she also helped me updated my email, I was able to log into my account, and--surprise! My dog's microchip was already active and had been the whole time. No payment required. She lied. For the record: my dog is microchipped, wears a GPS-enabled tag, and never goes outside unless he's with me on a leash. I just wanted that microchip as an extra layer of protection. After reading other reviews, I'm clearly not alone. Watch out for the upselling tactics. Don't fall for it--you don't need a membership to activate your pets microchip. Tell them, "I don't want any of your memberships. Your website says that 'All registered microchips include 24Petwatch Basic pet protection services' at no additional costs and that's all I want" If you want to know what this basic protection includes this is what it says word by word: "If your pet ever goes missing and is found, they can be scanned at a vet or animal shelter to identify their microchip number. When the chip number is shared with 24Petwatch, you'll be notified using the consent and information on file. This may include email, automated phone call and SMS. When I got a new dog, I attempted to transfer the chip to them. it sounded like a simple process but they managed to a) fail to register the new dog to me and b) managed to cut my access to the dog that was already registered. I then began trying to work with customer service. The people were nice enough but none of them helped me. I've been at it for over a month and still can't get resolution. On top of that, at a point when I thought someone was sincere about helping me, I agreed to buy their Lifetime Membership Plan which supposedly provides increased services if your pet is reported lost. I now believe I was scammed. Don't fall for these deceptive business practices. I also wanted to do a little more research on the company before giving them more information, especially financial. Literally impossible to get on the phone, when I call about an invoice, they just bounce me between two different departments back and forth, put me on hold for 10+ minutes, and when someone picks up, they refer me back to the department I just was bounced away from. We've had a great experience with 24PetWatch! Our dog came from a rescue with their Lifetime Protection Membership (microchip & reunion assistance if he's lost) and a complimentary year of pet insurance, which we decided to keep. We're so glad we did. He's the sweetest pup but has had more vet visits than we'd ever expected. He's only 4, but has had frequent ear infections and several minor injuries (he plays a bit too hard sometimes). I just checked and we've made 11 claims so far. Most recently, he was hospitalized for several days with pancreatitis, and having this insurance was a huge relief. The vet bill was thousands of dollars. We were reimbursed within days. It made a stressful situation much easier, just not having to worry about the vet cost. Highly recommend! read more

This company relies on false claims and deceptive messaging to con people into paying for extra services that they don't need, framing their "protection" membership as something you need to pay for in order to register or somehow activate your pet's microchip. It is 100% criminal behavior. If you aren't savvy about their manipulative wording (even when you call and speak with a human) you would never realize that all you need to do is register your contact information to the chip number, which is stored in a shared nationwide database, rather than paying for annual or lifetime subscription nonsense (this is true for all microchip types). I attempted to file a complaint on behalf of my sister, who doesn't work in the pet/veterinary industry and was so thoroughly swindled by 24PetWatch that she still doesn't understand what she could have done differently. Working in the veterinary field, I see this type of deceptive marketing and customer service/sales practices confuse and take advantage of people ALL the time, but never before for this amount of money. This complaint is in reference to 24PetWatch's pet microchip services, rather than the insurance arm of the company, which I would venture to guess is subpar. My sister's cat came from the previous owner with a 24PetWatch-brand microchip already implanted. This cat has become her emotional support animal (she suffers from multiple physical and mental health issues, which is enough for her to try and manage without companies like this swindling her out of money she doesn't have). She wanted to get the chip number re-registered with her own information, but couldn't find a way to do so online. Having poured over the website myself, it's nearly impossible to find the fine print that enables you to submit paperwork to do so without paying a fee. There is, in fact, no distinction made between the option of simply registering the microchip number to the owner, linking their contact information to that unique number in a shared national database, to the seemingly required act of purchasing a so-called "protection plan" membership, a "service" for which they charge you for either annually or as a lifetime amount (for a higher price). I called the company's customer service line myself, and it took persistent debunking of the representative's repeated misleading language and attempt to deviate from the topic to get the lady to admit that there is a way to re-register the number to a new owner without having to pay $100. Now, my sister is on food stamps, has no room left on credit cards and has to rely on my parents to help pay her rent. She does not need one more ultra-greedy company bleeding her of money she doesn't have. Of course, when I called to tell them I saw through this BS and asked whether they would refund my sister her money, the 24PetWatch rep told me that all "Protection" sales are final and nonrefundable. Utterly predictable. That'll be in the pages of small print that no customer ever reads because they're relying on the customer service people to truthfully represent what's on offer, which is not what's happening at this company. After a thorough grilling, the rep ultimately admitted that all the extra "protection" service (presented to customers as necessary) does is to have someone call you, rather than the system simply emailing you, when your pet is found. Because apparently having a person pick up the phone to call you these days is just too much effort, so it's all automated. The customer service reps' selective wording and the company's written messaging consists of fear tactics to con you into believing you won't be contacted about your found pet if you don't pay for the service (the shelter or vet's office they're turned in to would also call you after scanning the chip, BTW). And, these days, everyone is so accustomed to being charged for everything (particularly subscription fees) that we just pay up for fear of losing our furry family members forever. Horrible Experience. My cat had a bladder stone, so we submitted a claim for the vet bill and the cost of a diet we had to put her on. After telling us that we did not upload her full medical history, we searched for the documents we needed and uploaded them. For one reason or another, it was declined. After multiple tries to get them to re-open and take another look at the claim, they took another look and claimed that because about six years ago there was a note of similar symptoms to what my cat was experiencing now, they treated this as a pre-existing condition and couldn't reimburse us. I'm typically against microchipping pets since there are still some health risk/s to this process. But since I am going on vacation out of state for a considerable time, in worry that my pet might get lost while in the care of others I persuaded myself to have her microchipped (in addition to her having a collar with our numbers on it at all times). I got her microchipped at Vetco as my holistic vet does not microchip . They use 24PetWatch to register the chip; they do this automatically. It would not have been a problem if 24PetWatch does not keep trying to contact me. A few days later 2/9 (the chip was implanted 2/5), they contacted me (cell phone, work phone, email; they call, leave voicemail, text and email to get you to contact them) to say that my pet has been found. Huh? My pet is right here. I went to their website to update that my pet was never lost and closed the alert. Then today 2/12 they texted, called, left voicemail, and emailed again that my pet has been found. I went to the site and updated again that the pet was never lost and closed the alert. I then emailed them to tell them that I've closed this alert twice, pet is not missing, and they should stop contacting me and fix their system. However, in my research, reading all the reviews and feedbacks I suspect they are just trying to contact me to sell me plans. Pretty horrible behavior! Stay away from this company! I cannot remove the chip anymore obviously but I'll research on which provider I can transfer registry; I believe there are some that will register the chip even if does not come from them. read more

For example, if you die and your spouse was not listed on the initial registry, your spouse or progeny would have to PAY AGAIN! I looked at their website and there's NO fine print next to the advertised "LIFETIME" membership. THIS IS PERSONAL. My Dad who was the only family member listed, just died. It is with great dismay that I write this negative review for 24PetWatch insurance after using them to cover my 3 dogs for nearly 15 years. I strongly urge anyone who is considering pet insurance to choose another company based on my horrible reimbursement experience in the last 2 years. First, you should know that I have paid for the best coverage for all of my dogs and that I am proud to provide the best healthcare possible (and grateful to be able to afford to do so). Until recently, I had no problems with 24hour. I took my dogs to the vet, the vet submitted the claims, and I received reimbursement. About 18 months to 2 years ago, I started noticing that some claims were being denied allegedly because the vet was not submitting the proper paperwork or that it was not legible - so I requested the vet to resubmit and they did - over and over again. The person responsible for submitting the claims at the vet is very responsive and keeps all records of the submissions. Now, nearly every single claim is denied for some spurious reason that has no merit - requiring the vet to repeatedly submit the same paperwork, and ultimately the claim is paid on the exact same paperwork that was originally submitted. I now believe they are purposely making it time consuming and difficult for me and the vet because they do not want to pay the valid claims for senior dogs who go to the vet more often than young dogs. Probably some people give up or forget to follow up which is what happened to me because I own a business and get busy. One of my dogs passed away last year. His sister is now over 13 and has health issues that are covered but we constantly are required to jump through the same hoops every time. I am now at the point where I am going to see about filing complaints with the State of California and consider hiring a bad faith insurance attorney to look into this. I wouldn't be surprised if there are many others like me so that a class action may be an option too. I now have a new puppy and am getting pet insurance elsewhere. I am truly disgusted. Their employees have worked from home during the pandemic, but they refuse to acknowledge how the pandemic impacted consumers. We purchased their top Champion coverage level for our cat Solibelle. We could not get her spayed because veterinary services were limited because of the pandemic. Our regular vet and a local animal hospital were not even doing spaying. Our whole family had COVID. We also had an adult autistic son with behavioral problems who had to stay with us because his adult home was unsafe due to COVID. One day we noticed Solibelle bleeding from her rear. We took her to the Blue Pearl emergency animal hospital where we were given the option of paying $8,000 on the spot for the necessary surgery. The vet said Solibelle had a life-threatening condition. The surgery was successful and she is recovering fortunately. We filed a claim for $6,500, but 24HourPetWatch denied the entire claim -- offering us $0. They cited an exclusion in the insurance contract which said they would not pay for any treatment for medical conditions that would be preventable with sterilization. All their agent could offer was apologies. There was no understanding of how the pandemic had impacted our lives. Horrible absolutely TERRIBLE. We adopted an abandoned dog from our local shelter who paid to have him neutered at our local APL. The APL asked if I wanted to add on microchipping for $25 and I instantly agreed. Once we picked him up they gave us the instructions to register his chip. Once on the phone with him they WOULD NOT register his microchip with out a LIFETIME membership which was $200 So I had to pay $225 to microchip him and the only thing I get for $200 is constant bs emails that aren't worth $1. They are scammers and I wish the local APLS would STOP using them as our vet verified it is FREE to register your animals after microchipping. I was under the impression that registering or updating chip information was free but I couldn't get a straight answer on that from the young man on the phone who kept telling me I needed their lifetime coverage for $100 plus dollars. I'm pretty sure he also told me that they had acquired another company I mentioned that my other rescue has a chip through so I would be dealing with them in the future but they could give me a discount because he was a senior! His demeanor completely changed when I said I had to give the whole thing some thought. I called the other chip company who assured me they had not been acquired and they updated both dogs chips without a fuss. I made a one time payment of around $19 as one was a transfer. I would give zero stars if I could. This company has a huge flaw and could make you loose your pet forever... These chips are injected into your pets with a "unique" number which is supposed to help reunite you and your animal, but at ANY TIME, without any proof, any anyone can just call their customer service and transfer the chip number to their name. Sometimes this happens on purpose and sometimes someone just writes down the wrong number. This literally happened to me, someone transferred the chip number into their name out of no where, and I discovered it months later. So if my animal got out during the timeframe when the chip was registered to someone else, they would get a call, not me, and I would likely never recover my pet. I took my pet to the vet to verify that chip number as I was instructed by a customer service person at 24PetWatch and then called them back to get it sorted out. Then I was told that I needed to take a picture of the scanner with my pet in it to proof that was the chip number, otherwise they would not transfer the chip back to me. The only way to ensure that no one accidently transfer the chip out of your name, is to buy their protection. So you have to pay for the chip and buy the protection services...what a rip off. read more

And they send an email with a generic answer as to why the reject CSBUS #. This company is a complete SCAM!!!!! ZERO STARS!!! One year ago I adopted a dog from a rescue and signed up for the free trial insurance program because I wanted her to be protected. The time came when I took her to the vet for an ear infection. I submitted a claim online and included ALL of the medical paperwork including the adoption contract I had on her. My claim was denied. I called the claim line 7 TIMES to speak to a supervisor to resolve the issue, and every time there was either no supervisor available or they were too short staffed. I was always promised that they would escalate my case and call me back, but DAYS would go by without anyone calling. In the end, they claimed they needed ALL of my rescued pets medical history including the history that I did not have and the rescue didn't even have. How am I supposed to get that?? In total I have paid over $1000 in a year in monthly insurance fees for my pet to be covered, and all I was asking was for a measely $150-200 (not even the full total) back for the medication and follow-up vet bill for her ear infection. I don't think that is too much to ask and why would you need a complete medical history for an ear infection. read more

Avoid at all costs. If you have a choice of microchip for your pet go with another company. The business model at 24PetWatch is predatory, manipulative, and dishonest. They will con you into paying a fee for transferring info on (or registering) an existing microchip. Their website says this is free. But they will play on fears and convince you no one will get in touch if your pet is lost and scanned. This is FALSE. Chip-registration is free, so is transfer of ownership info for the chip. More than one agent flat out lied to me about this. Unless you grill them they will try to upsell you. They should be sued and run out of the business. read more

They bought FoundPets.org and now I can't update 2 of my dogs Microchips. I was told my old login would pull up on 24hr pet watch and it doesn't. I had to create a new account and it will only allow me to add 1 of my dogs these microchips are a vital part of my dogs care and they've made 2 of the chips useless. I tried to call couldn't get anyone and have sent 3 emails with NO response over a week. My 1 dog is a service dog and I can't access his microchip, this is beyond stressful experience. read more

I adopted a dog and signed up for the free trial of the insurance program. Unfortunately due to some serious health issues I had, we had to take the dog back. I promptly went online and cancelled the insurance plan. 2 months later I began being charged monthly. I spoke on the phone with a 24petwatch representative who brought in a supervisor. They figured out that the dog had been adopted by another family and had taken over the account but it still somehow had my billing info. They assured me this would be cancelled, fixed, and I would be refunded promptly. The support people were extremely nice. Thankfully, I asked for an email to confirm the conversation. A month went by, I didn't hear anything but was billed again. I replied to the email with no response. 2 weeks later I sent another email asking for the status and didn't get a reply Another month went by, I was billed again. I finally just had to issue a dispute with my credit card company, and a stop payment order with them. Hopefully this will result in a refund and them being unable to charge me again but we'll see. read more
