Figo is offered through Costco, which gives an automatic 15% discount, and if you insure a second dog, that jumps to 20% off. Nationwide? We only received a 5% employer discount. Not even close. I wouldn't recommend Figo Pet Insurance. Costco made it seem fantastic, but I have been sorely disappointed. Previously with Nationwide Pet Insurance, premiums were higher but dedicated customer support existed. I could easily call and receive answers from one of their professional and courteous representatives. I also received a higher percentage of reimbursed claims. With Figo, filing a claim is done through AI. When I had questions about a denied claim, I called customer service because Figo's AI isn't equipped to answer questions. The representative spoke so quickly. Even when I asked the rep to slow down for comprehension's sake, everything was handled at the same rushed pace. I called at another time for different reasons and received the same rep with the same hurried style. The extra star is for when claims are approved: the reimbursement process doesn't take long. Also, Figo charges lower premiums than other companies. Rating them a one-star came to mind because their process seems more complicated than Nationwide's and less claims are being approved through Figo. If I downgraded them to a one-star after filing more claims, it wouldn't surprise me. read more

Figo's claims process is a joke. If your dog has ever thrown up and it's documented, they will basically deny any future GI-related claims, no matter the cause. They use any prior note in your pet's history to permanently exclude entire categories of care. Even worse, if your dog was ever misdiagnosed and you actually prove it, they still don't care. Claims continue to get denied moving forward as if the incorrect diagnosis is set in stone. There's no real consideration for context or correction. It doesn't stop there. Itchy skin? Expect future dermatology claims to be denied. The rep said good luck getting coverage for anything remotely related to cancer later. It feels like everything becomes a "pre-existing condition" no matter how minor or unrelated. Unless you insure your dog before literally anything ever happens, this coverage is a waste of money. My dog is dying of cancer, and when I finally needed Figo to actually help, they covered $40 of a $400 vet bill after I'd paid $65/month faithfully. I pay over $110 every month in premiums, yet the maximum annual coverage is only $10,000. I purchased the policy with Figo for my healthy 3-months-old puppy; Included wellness benefits (preventative) in the coverage. a) Figo only covered a very limited amount for the vaccinations and wellness exam that I specifically chose to pay the premium for ($165 out of $548.84). b) When I took Charlie to be examined for a few skin issues that I thought could've been problematic (after the waiting period was over!!!), Figo found a way to not cover it because I told the doctor that they appeared 4-5 days ago, and 5 days was apparently prior to the end of the waiting period. The fact that I said 4-5 AND that I waited to take him to the vet AFTER the waiting period was over didn't matter, I guess. c) But the last drop was the denial of half of the charges for the diarrhea appointment. To deny the coverage for the test for parasites while the puppy is having such severe diarrhea is absurd! And the medication the vet prescribed was not "medicated" enough, it was too "natural" for Figo, so they didn't cover it as well. This is a scam. They do not pay claims. I've been with them since my dog was a puppy. and she now needs surgery at a little over two years old. She is not able to breathe with any elongated soft pallet and laryngeal paralysis. She was diagnosed in December 2024. They are trying to say this is a pre-existing condition, but it is news to me because no one ever told me she had these things. It took a while for me to figure this out, and she had to be sedated. I got Figo because they were connected to Costco. I thought it was probably an acceptable company because Costco would have vetted them. I was wrong!! My dog had an ear infection and they classified it as a "dermatological episode (!), ie. an allergy and ,therefore, not covered. I know allergy is a pre existing condition for my dog and don't expect coverage but an ear infection?? They classify that as an allergy also. I called a couple of months ago and the representative told me that that had been an error but today when I called I got a whole new story!! All I can say is BEWARE!! They say they have a 30 day guarantee. If not happy you can cancel for a full refund. After reading many negative reviews, and my overcharging, I decided to cancel. High Premiums & Crazy Hike at Renewal Figo increased my premiums by 40% and 31%. Now over $310/mo for two healthy dogs. I renewed my policies for a new zip code in March 2025 for a 5yr 2mo old dog and a 7yr 3mo dog. The monthly premiums increased less than $10 per policy due to a new zipcode to $118/mo and $114/mo for each dog respectively ($232/mo total). That's fine. However, upon autorenewal in May 2025 (only 2 months later) Figo is now increasing the premiums to $165 and $149 per month citing age, breed, and zip code. There was no change in zipcode since the March renewal, no change in breed (obviously), so the only cited reason by Figo that did actually change is age... By two months! How on earth do they justify a 40% and 31% increase in cost for a 2 month increase in age!? These are two healthy dogs / breeds with no health persistent health issues and who are not particularly old. I understand Figo has the right to increase premiums by whatever amount they desire, however their cited reason does not make sense to me. Only reason they get two stars and not one is because they paid claims when I submitted and did not scam me. However, we will be cancelling because nearly $4,000 a year is absurd and I am afraid of how much they will jack up the price next time if we stay. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS INSURANCE! BEWARE of predatory and misleading policy documents/practices. Figo denied our claim even after submitting a complaint to the Illinois Department of Insurance. We switched our pets insurance from Pets Best to Figo in January. While I understand they have lengthy waiting periods for orthopedic, we were grossly mislead in the policy documents provided to us. Specifically, the Amendatory Endorsement for Part III: Coverage, which states "If Your Pet was previously covered under an Independence American Insurance Company group pet insurance policy that was in effect immediately before the effective date (no gap in coverage) of this Policy, credit toward satisfying the Pre-Existing Condition Waiting Period and other Waiting Periods will be applied for the period of time the Pet was covered under the prior Independence American Insurance Company group pet insurance policy. Submission of the prior policy declarations page and/or the verification of premiums paid through payroll deduction may be required." We were previously covered under Pets Best, another offering by Independence American Insurance Company through a discounted rate given by a members only organization. We provided our declarations page from Pets Best as proof and thought nothing of it, until one of our pups required emergency surgery on C2/C3 because of herniated disc that ruptured into deep veinous sinus in March. Thinking we were covered, we submitted a claim and it has been nothing short of a nightmare dealing with this company. At first it was explained that we weren't covered under that amendatory endorsement because we are not employed by Independence American. I argued that the endorsement doesn't explicitly state this and that the wording is misleading as group policy can refer to a number of offerings including offerings through a member organization or association. Then we were told to try to submit their ortho waiver and see if it would go through and help. We were then told by multiple folks on the phone that they weren't familiar with the amendatory endorsement and that we should try to submit their ortho waiver. Submitted the ortho waiver after the fact and it was returned and deemed unusable since Figo could not get confirmation from our vet that they saw our pup in the allowed +or- 30 days of policy inception. We've gone through hell rehabilitating our pup after a $13k surgery that we thought we were covered by insurance on, but that wasn't the case. Fast forward to today, after filing the IDOI complaint, going through two official appeals, and we were told there is nothing more that can be done. We were also told in letter that the amendatory endorsement states that the previous policy must be underwritten by independence American Insurance Underwriters...I'm confused where the policy states that in the endorsement as what was quoted above is directly from their letter of denial. This company is attempting to dodge our claim at all costs. While I understand this orthopedic policy is in place for folks who suddenly get insurance and then have a claim and then close out the insurance policy after payout, we are not those folks. Our pets have been insured since we have had them in our care and we have been responsible, or so we thought. Financially we were switching because Pets Best increased our premium per dog by more than 250%, so we read through sample documents before we made the switch. *Updating my former glowing review to warn others to stay away now.* Figo was acquired by Independence Pet Group in 2021, and the quality of customer service as well as price stability have absolutely tanked since then. The company I signed up with back in 2016 is not the Figo you'll deal with today, unfortunately. In the intervening years, I watched my premiums increase by 60% or more, despite promises that changes to underwriter companies would reduce premiums (or at least stabilize the rate of increases) for customers. They chose to chase exponential profit growth over all the things that made them special in the first place, so you should expect them to behave accordingly. They consider many things preexisting -- it's an expansive and exploitative practice across pet insurance, so they are hardly unique. That doesn't make them good people, though, and I was initially drawn to the company in 2016 because they seemed to actually care more about pets than other companies. I think that was true for a while, but it's clear that new leadership has moved them in... another direction. My genuine advice is this: Create a savings account just for vet expenses, and start adding what you can every month. $50-$100, if you can swing it! Barring catastrophic health emergencies, you will almost always come out ahead, especially now that Figo seems comfortable hiking prices up every time your policy renews. Another option is to check if your vet offers payment plans that would help you manage covering high cost treatments or procedures. If you can get pet insurance early for a beloved companion, that is your best bet to ensure you have a shot at coverage over the life of your animal. If that's the route you go, I strongly urge you to check out other companies, like Nationwide or ASPCA, rather than giving business to Figo. read more

I spoke to someone this morning about my claim for an accident that happened on Halloween. The claim isn't even under review yet! The lady told me that their claims typically take 2-4 weeks to process. I asked her if my credit card charges me in interest for the bill that's almost $7k, if they pay my late fees and she said no, maybe I can call the hospital my pet was seen at and they could pay my fees. ?? On Sept. 25, Michelle from PetCloud/Figo support tells me that first time claims require 14-21 days to review but that doesn't start when the claim is filed (Sept. 12) but instead the clock starts when they have obtained all med records from vet (and they went back asking for more and more, two or more times - most recently on Sept 23) - I think it's a ploy to stall paying. FIGO is terribly slow to pay - shop around for better service. Btw, the support people all try to kill you with kindness but cannot answer when claim will be paid and have no recourse or power to escalate. They're WORTHLESS!! read more

This opens the door for you. 2) Write Costco a letter and include copy of your complaint with consumer rights division. 3) Hire a consumer rights attorney and have them file a lawsuit.
