We found them in google search. I called them. They sent me the same text message 3 times about contacting them in a website. I went to website, filled out the form with all my info. I got again several text messages to open my email and confirm my info AGAIN email and reply to their email. Just a couple of weeks ago I was a victim of Identity theft doing exactly this type of things so I expressed I didn't feel comfortable and Ken got very VERY NASTY out of the line personal text messages . I don't understand why I have to send them my info so many times so many different ways, then they sent me several emails, many text messages all withing minutes!!! I read their reviews -most excellent ones -so they might be a legit company but if this is the treatment before even trying to get any pic of the job or come over for an estimate...I can't imagine the treatment once they are hired. read more

OK only because he took a small job (garage and patio) when other contractors wouldn't. I realize now that I probably paid too much, but I am just glad it's done. Communication about what the word "finish" means was unclear. Please keep reading...I live in IL. by the way NOT CA. Tips for anyone who might hire the "doctor": Get it in writing - everything. Buy some $3 tarps and cover up everything ahead of time because they won't prep even though a document included with the proposal states "items will be covered as needed" language. Note: I spent a full day cleaning up (scraping, vacuuming, and later scrubbing) drywall compound residue and dust left behind, including on a brand new ceiling fan. The installers appeared to be on a time crunch - to get the job done and move on to the next. I, the customer, provided two fans for the installers, who worked excessively long hours in oppressive heat. I felt sorry for them. They appeared to do good work, but I am not an expert. They left a huge mess. Prepping and cleaning up was clearly not their job. Tips for the "doctor": Show up in person before the job is done, not later to do damage control. I guess there is no profit in prepping and cleaning up jobs, but your customer reviews would be much better if you did and might bring in more business in the long run. Investing in some tarps and fans and adding a few more hours to the job would help everyone, and people would feel much better about handing you the large check. Earn it. Do not hit on single female customers via text and offer "a significant discount if your dating the owner Lol" especially after laying eyes on the customer's beautiful young daughter doing yoga. Not just unprofessional, but pretty scary and creepy. And it's "you're," not "your". read more

Ken be an adult and don't twist the facts.......the house was never rented. Your crew left spots and specs all over the kitchen, dining room, and living room. We will leave out the rest of my complaints. The issue wasn't even the cleanup I had to do after your crew came in, or your brash attitude when they finished and I had to deliver a check immediately. I asked you multiple times if they really wanted to work during a polar vortex. My issue was you were truly unprofessional when I told you the issues I had regardless of the fact that it was 2 weeks after the job was done. If you would have just sent someone to clean up the mess you left behind this would have never been an issue. You rushed me to pay your guys who finished the job early, but failed to clean up the floors they speckled and furthermore I have never had a contractor leave trash behind. Your customer service sucks and trust me I will never use you again. You can spin things however you want, the fact of the matter is when you do good work, I am sure you are great. Needed some drywall installed after a roof leak. I reached out to several contractors and Ken replied right away. No one else responded at all. Ken gave me a price based on photos and a description, I assume what I needed was pretty basic. Ken offered to install the missing insulation if I supplied it, and he told me what to get. After insurance approval I called for an appointment, they came out in just a few days. Installer wore a mask, used dropcloths everywhere, did a good job and cleaned up afterwards. To all, I gave an honest review for the Wall Doctor 8 months ago and I'm still pleased with the WORK but I just saw a rebuttal to my original review by the owner Ken. I'm not surprised that he took the time to blame me for his mistakes but I am left in awe over his account and utter blindness to my issue with how the deal went down.. I don't care if it's 25cents. A contract is a contract - a deal is a deal and Ken changed the deal. I decided to walk away because it was the best thing for me and Ken. I looked at other review and saw he rebutted other "less than favorable" statements made by previous customers. If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's a duck. I wish you well Ken. You could benefit from some coaching on customer service, public relations and maybe a few conversations with someone who has LCSW or PhD after their names. read more

You decide! I was told by Ken that my wallpapered walls would be cheaper to paint if they applied oil based primer and filled the gaps with mud (drywall goup). OK, set the appointment and 2 men shoed up. They spent 8 hours applying the products and painting. They told me they would have to come back the next morning to finish the job. Part of our contract was for them to paint the woodwork around the 2 windows. They returned and told me they were finished. I went into the room and the window frames were not painted. They called Ken and were told there was a misunderstanding and that they needed to paint the woodwork. Ok, this happens. They left and the work seemed good at the time. During all the applications and detailing, they were using just the lamp we had in the bedroom, no other light source. The afternoon sun finally came out and all the stripes from unfinished mudding were visible as seen in the first pic. At night with the bedroom lamp it was worse. The mud wasn't even feathered. I called Ken and he said he would take care of it so he asked my schedule. I told him Friday I would be there at 9:20 AM so he said, "I will rearrange things and have someone there." On my way home at 9:10 AM on Friday I get a call from Ken saying, "The guys are working 21 miles away and won't be there until 12:30 or 1:00 and he would keep me posted. He also asked if that was "ok". I wasn't happy but I said yes. At about 1:30 I get a call saying it will be closer to 2:00 so I expressed my unhappiness that a whole day has been shot. Ken replied in an email (quotes), "I am doing the best I can...I can't have guys sitting waiting until 9:30 start... they need to be producing@ OUR time of 8am". Oh, so what I was told earlier wasn't true! They showed at 1:50 and for the next 5 plus hours they were trying to fix what was messed up. Luckily my wife viewed the room and said it was ok. The 2 other attached pics show the ripples in the paint and the bleed through in their work which they told my wife was painted with 3 coats. Earlier I had asked them where their work light was and they said they didn't have one, so I gave them MY drop light. They paint and put up dry wall mud and don't carry any of their own work lights? I find this amazing since Ken told me his people, "are professional!" As I told him, "There is never time to do it right the first time but there's always time to do it again." The next day "I" spent 4 hours finishing a job that I paid quite a bit to have done. Would you recommend them? I am NOT located in CA, I live in Geneva, Illinois!!!! read more

We were really happy to have found Ken at Illinois Wall Doctor and were hopeful he would be our new painting/wall/trim person - his rates are reasonable for this area and he actually called me back, unlike many contractors. But beware that you will get what you pay for! Unfortunately, a sour taste was left in my mouth early on when our quote explicitly stated that the wall that had been water damaged would be reinsulated and the dry wall replaced. When the gentleman (Julian, super wonderful) arrived to do the work, he brought no insulation and I went down to ask him about it. He said Ken told him not to install it. When I addressed that the insulation had not been installed with the owner he simply looked surprised and took it off the bill. He didn't ask Julian why it wasn't installed or offer to fix it. Painting was another doozy. I specifically requested that all the furniture be covered since it wasn't being removed from the room. Now what is on my office desk? Blue-green paint. And there is a huge, visible paint mark on my shower stall in the bathroom as well. Then we installed molding, which was another adjustment to the quote we were provided initially. We have 4in molding in our basement and I guess on the original quote they used the price for standard molding - another hidden fee. The final straw was the 1/4in round shoe molding after the flooring was installed. We didn't have that as part of the quote because we didn't know whether we wanted to have him do it or the flooring company. We trusted that his prices were reasonable. When we received the bill he charged us more per linear foot to install the 1/4in round than he did to install 4inch molding! We were blown away, but this was clearly our bad for not getting that added to the quote in writing. So then we measured what had actually been installed versus what was on the bill - he was overcharging us by many linear feet and wanted us to pay his installed price for all the stuff he scrapped! When I questioned it with him, gave me a spill about how he was an honest man in his business dealings, which is when I brought up him telling his worker bee not to install the insulation in my wall. He responded that he didn't remember telling Julian not to install my insulation and he was offended that I would suggest he was dishonest; if I didn't remit the full payment that he was going to turn me over to the state and if he got another message from me he was going to call law enforcement for harassment. Guess this guy doesn't like being called out! I sent the full payment, although he overcharged us, because I am tired of dealing with this character and I guess he needs the money more than we do. I've hired The Wall Doctors for multiple projects and I've not been disappointed. The pricing is fair, but even more importantly, Ken does what he says he's going to do and in the timeline he says he's going to do it. And if things happen - and they do - he communicates proactively and makes sure that you know the status of things. I find his professionalism refreshing and admirable. Ultimately, a good price and a nice guy don't necessarily make a job well done, but in the case of The Wall Doctors it does. In all 3 of my jobs with them (spanning 3 years), they work was done beautifully, and they took great care to protect my home. For the sake of your own comparison, they repainted my wood front door, they painted major sections of the interior of my home, and they removed a built in cabinet. read more

Awesome Business, we had to repair a rental home ceiling that was cut around 4ft by 3ft (Not 100% accurate) to fix a plumbing issue. Contacted Ken to get the job done. We don't live in the state so it was nice for Ken to go a step above to help us most of contact was done via texting. Sent a check for the repair Ken scheduled the repair with the tenant himself and send pictures of the finished work. They went over and above to help my family out. I needed some work done & quickly due to a VA appraisal/ inspection . The gentleman doing the work was professional & the job done was fantastic. The work was well below average. When concerns were addressed to the owner he didn't even attempt or offer to fix anything, he only made excuses and didn't look at the work. He simply did not care. No respect for your house or belongings. They used bleach on my hardwood floors from a mop they took out of my closet, without asking which is now ruined as well. They destroyed my bathroom ( a room not even included in the project) Several areas of lumps, bumps and dents in drywall. They never remover vent coverings or asked me to they just simply skimmed and painted around and made it look horrible. They threw their trash is my lawn clipping bin, which I removed and they threw it back in there again. They used several of my things without asking which makes me believe they didn't have proper equipment as well. This is a company you call if your trying to flip a home or a rental and you don't care about nice work . Do not call this company if you have a nice house and are looking for things done the right way. Also be aware that the owner will not try to fix any problems you may have. I now am hiring another company to fix what they messed up. read more

I've used Ken Greenwood's The Wall Doctor at 3 residences. He does impeccable work at honest rates. The most extensive job was a 2500 sq ft wall-to-wall painting, main floor wainscoting and crown molding installation (I think one of the pics is that property). A property evaluator estimated that that work increased the home's value by at least $15K. The quality of work was universally praised, even by MI Homes' Mayfair construction manager. I plan to consult Ken on a basement finishing and will definitely use him at my new Naperville home this summer. read more

This is the 2nd time I have had the wall doctors out to work on our home. The first time was for painting part of the 2nd floor and 30ft high walls. They did an excellent job at it...and we have though about having them re-paint the job another contractor did a year earlier. Just last weekend we had them out to put crown moulding on our entire first floor. They finished installing it on Friday and finished up the painting/cauking on Saturday. It looks amazing. It was a surprise for my wife and she absolutely loves it. Wish I could post pictures. We will definitely have them back to do even more work, possibly expanding our wood floors. I'll start by saying Ken's approach to serving residential customers is less than professional. As others have stated, he can easily go on the defensive and berate you if there is some disagreement. Also, he insists on texting you the terms and pricing which doesn't leave much of a document trail. The bigger issue I experienced was the carelessness of the workers. Ken's uses sub-contractors to provide services, and in my case, the painters must have been the low-bid for the week. It was a father/son team that left many scratches/dings on floors, walls, and furniture. The son actually cleaned off his paint tools with my garden host next to our garden. Nothing like a latex aftertaste on my sun ripened tomatoes! Plenty of good contractors out there, I would advise going elsewhere. read more

Where do I begin. First received a quote from Anthony and after attempting to secure a start date, the guy would not take my calls, emails, or texts. Got ahold of Ken (the owner) and was able to get a date secured only to have the quote change because when they quoted the job 6 weeks ago, their hourly charges had increased. It wasn't a big deal so we went ahead moved on. Originally I was told the job would take 3-4 days, but Ken allowed himself 7 days, which I was fine with. First day got pushed back a day and after 9 days, they still weren't finished. It took a full 10 days to finish. What was supposed to be 2-3 guys each day was one guy for 70% of the time. One of my bedrooms had to be completely repainted along with a 2 sets of cabinet doors that had paint splatter and paint that wasn't adhering. The other main issue I had was that the crew would start painting a room and before finishing the trim, they would move on to another room, creating a situation, where I couldn't put a room back together. This went on for a week before Ken was back on site and he had the crew finish a couple of rooms. I had to spend 3-4 hours on my hands and knees cleaning my recently refinished hardwood floors after I explicitly told them to be careful because of paint and drywall mud that had gotten into the grain of the wood. Now that the project is complete, I will say that the finished product looks good, but getting there was extremely painful. If there are certain steps that you would like the crew to do to protect areas of your home, I would make sure that you cover that with them. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have had them put down kraft paper covering 100% of the refinished floors. read more

I did a lot of homework before selecting a contractor to complete this job. I got five quotes, checked references on line, and asked for referrals from the insulation company we used who are the ones who tore up our bathroom to begin with due to condensation as a result of poor insulation at the rim joists. Ken was not the highest or the lowest quote I received. However, he was the most consistent and responsive with the best reputation. After the job was done - his quote matched the price I paid! Drywall Day: Let me tell you - the insulation guys tore up my bathroom. Their cuts were jagged, they had spray foam everywhere, they stapled plastic into every wall, and I felt terrible for the drywall people who had to put it back together. Ken sent two men to repair the drywall. They were quiet guys, but extremely respectful of my home and very professional. They replaced over 50 square feet of drywall that was sloped up to a ten foot ceiling. They even did some minor repair to the walls/window sill to prepare it for painting the following week. Their taping and skill with replacing the drywall put me at ease immediately that I made the right decision in choosing Ken for this job. These guys were really top notch. Painting Day: Ken let me know ahead of time that drywall and painting would be about a week apart. I was completely fine with this and I really appreciated him letting me know proactively about the scheduling. His excellent communication allowed me to have reasonable expectations of what to expect for scheduling and timing of the job. Painting went smoothly. Ken is punctual, polite, funny, and most importantly - he is very skilled! This is not exactly a tiny bathroom and it has a lot of obstacles like two large vanities, a shower, a jaccuzi tub, mirrors, etc. He painted the ceilings in the bathroom, water closet, and hallway. While the ceiling dried Ken prepped the walls. Ken was a true professional working with speed, efficiency, and a great attention to detail. The lines where the wall meet the ceiling were sharp and not wavy. I really dislike when I walk into a room and look up and you can see where an unsteady hand made wavy paint lines into the white of the ceiling - Ken's lines were crisp and just as I would expect them to be when paying a professional to do the job. Once the paint was up on the ceiling and walls it was also clear what an outstanding job the drywall guys did as well. You could not see a drywall seam - it is flawless. I recommend Ken for any painting and drywall needs. He himself is a true professional and obviously takes great pride in his work. Based on my experience with his drywall team, he only hires the best to work alongside him. I already requested to be added to his schedule to paint our nursery and put up a chair rail (preliminary quote is between $500-600 for that job INCLUDING paint and chair rail). Ken also does remodeling - I really look forward to using him for several tile jobs, vanity replacements, back-splash, etc in the future. read more

If I could rate this company zero stars I would. Terrible communication from owner, comes out to start a wainscot project and when everything was reviewed again, (had reviewed with him prior but he apparently didnt listen or care enough to make notes of what I wanted) he tells me he needs to leave to get additional materials. Right after leaving he sends me a text message that we'd need to reschedule the project. Who does that? I took time off work to have this done. I did follow up with him by phone, sent more examples of what I wanted, and I have yet to hear from him on a price. His response over a month ago when I inquired was that "they were very business everyday". Too busy apparently to follow up with customers who wanted to use them for work. I wouldn't recommend, and will never contact again for anything. read more

We had re-occurring seam break in an 18 foot high vaulted ceiling, the repairs they did were flawless and never returned. I have hired Ken twice in the past three years for paint in my home. This year I had Ken and his painters repaint our kitchen and family room to cover the botchy job that I did four years ago. The two painters started on time and spent over an hour preparing the site for prep: taping off, covering fixtures, floors, and furniture before painting. In only six hours, the two painters (on Ken's permanent staff; not subcontractors...a point worth noting) finished the job to superior results. If I took this on it would have taken me at least two weeks with questionable results. The pricing was reasonable given the peak season for painters. read more

We hired The Wall Doctors to remove a popcorn ceiling from our vaulted family room ceiling and paint it white. In addition, The Wall Doctors cut out dry wall and had an electrician prepare media to be moved over our fireplace. The completed job is excellent. Our ceiling looks smooth and no sign of it ever being a popcorn ceiling. Walls are excellent as well. The crew were polite and did a great job of cleaning up.
