This is a story of a leaky shower. After literally years of hiring various well regarded plumbers and handymen to try to remedy it, it always leaked again - usually in less than a year. When mold showed through the ceiling of the room below the shower and the mold remediation contractor cut through the ceiling it was clear we needed to consider replacing the shower and much of the subfloor. Serious perusing of reviews on yelp led me to JRW. Just one phone call made me hopeful. First they re- grouted the shower pan/wall connection so it could be used until they had an opening in their schedule a few weeks away to replace the shower. Finally the big day came. Joel (the owner) sent me photos (it was a tenant occupied home) everyday and explained every step of the way what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He respected my decisions. He also picked out materials subject to my approval - and I always said yes because his choices were excellent as well as in budget. I had been concerned of the impact of a big project with workers in and out every day for a week or so on the tenants. I needn't have worried, the day after it was complete the tenant emailed me unsolicited and said that the workers did a great job: excellent workmanship, seemed trustworthy, respectful of the tenants and house, cleaned up everything and though they hope no more issues arise, they said if workers are ever needed there again they would hope it's the crew from JRW. Two small issues arose unrelated to this project (sticky door and gutter issue) and Joel took care of them for a minor charge. Most mom and pop landlords will tell you- the dreaded call from a tenant that something is broken causes you a few minutes of angst trying to figure out who to call to get it fixed. I have used JRW several times over the past 8 years and I have been very pleased because they always did a great job for a reasonable price! Joel, Ed, and the others are a pleasure to work with. The first job was a master bath remodel, which came out beautiful. A few years later they replaced our 2 sliding patio doors and went the extra mile when they found out that the wood under one of them was rotted. We had a leaky faucet in our garage that needed repair. After calling multiple vendors, Joel was noticeably more responsive and easier to chat with than the others. Call Joel! The problem was, we didn't know who Joel was, we just knew we needed someone since our kitchen ceiling had fallen onto the kitchen floor overnight and JRW was the first company we found. Joel and crew came out, fixed the hole and now the repatched ceiling is hardly noticeable. So next time we needed someone, we called Joel again and then again to paint the family room and retile the fireplace. This time I called for him to totally remodel the bathroom. This was a start-over-from-bare-walls job. Joel, Mark and Ed turned the gross, ugly, worn-out blue bathroom to a light, bright room that is beautiful and elegant. Like other customers said - he tells you when they'll be there and that's when he shows up, or he calls to let you know. I had a design in mind and knew what I wanted and he guided me through the process telling me what materials I would need. I wouldn't change anything in the finished room (except make it twice as big - but even Joel and crew couldn't do that). So my advice? Call Joel. read more

I needed to have electrical work done to my master bath when I sold my home recently and didn't have an electrician to call. After leaving messages for a couple other electricians and not getting a call back (!!!), I found JRW and called with a few questions I had. Joel called back within an hour and was extremely friendly and helpful. I explained to him what I needed done (as stated on the home inspection report). He suggested I double check with the buyers and the inspector, since the required work as written on the report was not clear, and he didn't want to come out to my home and charge a service call if it wasn't required...which I really appreciated! For years we've had this odd PVC pipe that led the AC condensation over the basement floor to a drain. Well, we started using that space for some home biz use and needed the concrete floor cut to bury the pipe. Excellent service. Called JRW to replace a sliding patio door. The job ended up being much more as there was clear and obvious water damage/wood rot when they removed the old door. They handled the whole situation perfectly. It became a much bigger job than anticipated but they were able to complete it, and did so in a timely manner with fair pricing. Joel and his team transformed my basement in about two weeks, from a dark creepy space with giant wall-holes and moldy baseboard to a bright and inviting space that my teens are thrilled with. We have a great team of service professionals for the cars, pets, etc. but we didn't "have a guy" for renovation and odd jobs.
