Israeli Breakfast at Ima Deli
Cal S.

I've been wanting to try the relatively new Ima Deli on Fort St for a while now, and my birthday yesterday provided the perfect occasion when a friend very kindly took me out for lunch. We were immediately taken with the unusual menu, which features Israeli and Middle Eastern dishes. After a bit of umming and aahing, I chose the Israeli breakfast, which came with labneh, olives, pickles, tahini, free-range eggs and homemade ciabatta. It was delicious, however not quite enough bread to mop everything up. My friend chose the Malawach, which is like a fried puffy pancake which comes with egg, tomato, sour cream and a mildly spicy sauce (I'm ordering this next time!). Other options include latkes, shakshuka, rotisserie chicken and a cabinet full of colourful salads. The food came out promptly - essential when you're sneaking out the office for lunch - and the fresh juices we ordered were delicious too. There is pavement seating outside on the revitalised Fort St which would be perfect on a hot day, although as it was drizzling we sat inside. We were struck by how cavernous the inside area is - they definitely could fit a few more tables in, but as it wasn't very busy when we were there perhaps they don't need to. The space would lend itself well to private functions - not sure whether they hire out the space though. We left very full but decided to come back later in the week to sample some of the sweet treats on offer, and felt pretty happy that we work just 100 metres away.

We've been intrigued when walking past to see bread and rolls being made in the window. We were at the right time for lunch as we went by today so popped in. Much larger inside than expected and some nice decor ideas. Loved the cheese graters as light shades and eclectic mix of china. We appreciated the pitcher of sparkling water and the quick arrival of our orders. I had the soup of the day, silver beet and beef dumplings served with lovely chewy ciabatta. Mr had the shakshuka, a spicy sausage and tomato stew with poached eggs and toast , which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Great spot for Israeli food! Homemade breads and pita (watch them rolling dough in the front window). We were only able to check out the breakfast before we had to catch a flight, and the latkes were amazing! Would have loved to try the lunch or dinner menu.

I was a little wary going to ima, I didn't really know what I was in for, and to be honest I didn't always know what I was eating, but it was brilliant! We had a large group of about 12 of us and 3 were vegetarian and 2 were vegan and it wasn't a problem. Our waitress sorted out our entire meal and was very informative, and the food was great. Loved it would absolutely go back

We had a rez and were able to get seated ~5 min after arriving on time. Place was packed at 8:30pm on a Friday. Cocktails are delicious - really flavorful . Easy to order multiple. Orange Blossom Martini was good and easy; Jiddi Sour was unique delicious For food, Hummus and pide a great start. Bread is fresh, warm, and tasty. Lamb was delicious and filling. Carrots an excellent side - roasted well and the fennugreek sauce was on point. Chill vibe in what feels like an open atrium mall

I ask if we can leave our name on a waitlist somewhere and they say they don't do waitlists, so we have to just wait there on the side. Weird but again, no problem. 45 minutes pass by so I politely ask if there's an update to the table. The hostess literally yells "I told you guys the status of the table multiple times." And storms away. I'm from the States so I'm not sure if I was breaking some cultural rules, or something, but I was really polite when asking, and I only asked one time. I was never told the status "multiple times" and I don't know who "you guys" is. This place needs a reality check, the food was awful and service was miserable. I don't recommend this establishment to anybody.

Back then it was also caled the Cedar Café but it appears to be under new ownership and has got its game together. It's a great place to pop in and buy a big tub of hummus or some Turkish delight and stocks many other Middle Eastern products as well in the shop at the back. The cafe part is more a takeaway with a couple of tables, but the food is delicious. We do frequent other kebab places but this is my favourite - especially if they have the mini Spinach Borek rolls.

The produce is fresh, the hummus tastes authentic and they have the most amazing garlicky, lemony chickpea salad. It's a fantastic find for vegetarians, with a large range of vegetarian salads to choose from along with the fresh falafel. Meat eaters are well catered for too: none of this processed lamb-on-a-spit crap that the food hall kebab shops serve. And moist, flavourful chicken. The servings are big, the prices are low, and there is a shop at the back where you can stock up on baklava, dolmades and other Middle Eastern delights. There are a few tables available inside, and a couple outside in a small sectioned area overlooking Dominion Rd for those who can't wait to dig into their kebab. Otherwise this is more of a takeaway option.

Finally I asked 45 minutes later and she looked under the bench and said oh yeah here it is.My food was totally cold when I got it and I wanted to say something to her but she flipped her ponytail and turned away. I get that it was just forgotten or whatever but there was no apology offered at all. Fatima's is a great takeout option for a filling and tasty feed. They offer pitas, as shown below, chawarmas and salads. The pitas are a tightly filled wrap with most of them offering chicken, lamb or tofu for the protein. If you're feeling adventurous give the 'Catch of the day' a go to have fish or if you are a fan of mango and avocado, opt for the 'Pacific Pita'. To be honest most of the time I choose the Fatima's favourite with Lamb and no cheese. Its my favourite and I can't get enough of the combo of the tomato relish, aioli and chilli together. This place is great as they cook their meat to order and use fresh ingredients, giving you a nice hot pita or charwarma. So far all the proteins have been cooked to the right degree. Ive had a chawarma once, its better if you don't have a huge appetite as they are smaller but the bap bun is a nice difference from most eateries. If you are eating with someone share a side of the koftas. Who doesn't love little balls of fried potato. Served with their sweet chilli aioli it's so unhealthy but soo good. My only small issue is I wish their chicken was Free Range, as their chicken options look delicious and i think they could widen their demographic offering FR Chicken. Great 'Quick Bite' on the run or if you live near by and can't be bothered cooking. Huge fan of Fatima's and yet to be disappointed. Service is quick, online ordering is also on offer. Over the weekend, two friends and I were invited to dine at Bodrum Market in Westfield Newmarket's…read morenew rooftop dining precinct. It was a fantastic lunch, thanks to the lovely food, cocktails, ambience and service. Bodrum Market is run by one of my favourite hospitality companies - Nazar Group. Founded by Alex Isik and Nigar Ivgen, they own restaurants all over Auckland, including Feriza's, Miss Istanbul, Ottoman Mezze Lounge, NOA Chargrill + Burger, Devon on the Wharf, Mozaik Caffe, Deco Eatery, Casablanca and Bodrum Kitchen. All of their restaurants bring a slice of the Mediterranean to the table - featuring Turkish, Greek, Moroccan and Middle Eastern dishes... so we were really excited to check it out! Walking in, we absolutely loved the interior of Bodrum Market, which is inspired by Istanbul's Grand Bazaar and the streets of Bodrum City. While I have not yet been to Istanbul (it is on the list!), I immediately felt transported to an exotic city! We were seated in one of their booths, which overlooks the dining area and bar. If you dine at Bodrum Market, you must order a cocktail! We tried three which were all refreshing and delicious. My top picks are the Bombay Masala Talkies - Gin infused with masala tea, butterfly pea flower syrup, lemon juice and Mediterranean tonic water; the Sultan Treat with Russian vodka, rose petal water, fresh pomegranate, lime juice and pomegranate molasses; and the Aam Pana Cooler with Tequila, orange liqueur, raw mango puree, roasted cumin powder, lemon juice and lemonade. (Seriously, typing this now makes my mouth water!!!) And now for the most important part, the food! Bodrum Market is offering diners an authentic experience by serving four different cuisines - Indian, Italian, Turkish and Latin American Asado, just like the traditional food markets of the Mediterranean. Their aim is to showcase unique flavours from each of their teams' homelands. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peak through their kitchen and admired their Wood-Fired Pizza Oven, Asado Grill and Doner Kebab machine. There are many options on the menu to suit a range of palates, and I recommend sharing if possible so you can try a few dishes. We trusted the team to bring us a few of their favourites from each of the four cuisines to try, including Olives and Feta with almonds and dates, Chicken Lollipops with chili sauce, Grilled Octopus with new potatoes, paprika butter, garlic aioli and parsley, Beef Short Ribs with Chimichurri sauce and Prosciutto Pizza with fresh rocket, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and Parmesan. We loved that everything was super fresh, flavourful and tasty, plus every dish was full of colour. Our favourites were the Beef Short Rib - lathered in a beautiful Chimichurri sauce and the meat was melting off the bone! The Chicken Lollipops were also a highlight, and we surprisingly enjoyed the Grilled Octopus... must admit those tentacles freaked us out a bit! For dessert, we tried their Loukoumades - light and fluffy Greek honey puffs, drizzled in chocolate sauce and served with pink fairy floss, ice cream and pistachios. You will definitely want to save room for this dessert! For a further sweet treat, head outside to the entrance of Bodrum Market to admire the displays of Baklava, Chocolate Baklava and Turkish Delight - definitely recommend buying a few pieces for the ride home. Thank you Bodrum Market for a FAB dining experience - we cannot wait to come back! x
