In the quaint little town of San Anselmo, CA (which happens to be tucked in between San Rafael and Fairfax) lies "Imagination Park". For those that choose to visit, this is a very tiny park with only a couple of benches for sitting. Do not expect to see a playground nor is there even a water fountain or public restroom. And keep the dogs at home as this is not a pet-friendly park. The space itself is equivalent to that of a backyard of a standard house. Located right off of San Anselmo Ave. and tucked right in between Magnolia Ave. and City Hall Ave. in downtown San Anselmo, this park eventually came to life back in June 2013. This idea was spearheaded by film director George Lucas who directed mega blockbuster films such as the entire Star Wars Saga, the Indiana Jones franchise as well as American Graffiti. It is very easy to find as the location itself is just steps away from the San Anselmo Public Library as well as the Town Hall. I came here on a warmer than normal summer day on 7/15/2023 at around 4:10pm. After parking my SUV just a block away, I was awed with the beautiful collection of pink/lavender flowers with the plaque that reads Imagination Park directly above it. But the real treat here is the life-size statues of one of Star Wars most recognizable and beloved characters, "Yoda", And directly on the other side is a statue of Harrison Ford who played "Indiana Jones" in all 5 of the movies spanning from 1981-2023. While you're here, its nice just to let your imagination run wild (hence the name "Imagination" Park) and just appreciate how influential George Lucas is in all of his movies. He actually used to have a residence in San Anselmo before relocating to the more private and open Lucas Valley. So for all you movie fanatics young and old, do yourself a favor and check this place out if you're in the area. My rating, a unanimous five stars. read more

Once again, I've warned you my fellow Yelpers and random visitors perusing the Yelp app, don't set your expectations too high when it comes to the size of the park. It's situated next to the San Anselmo Library, extremely small and not what you imagined (no pun intended). There are two statues here - Yoda and Indiana Jones, don't expect anything else. Be respectful when visiting this park. It's a lovely hangout spot like one of the Yelpers mentioned, go get some coffee and sit here and reminisce, or do whatever you want to kill time. It's definitely not a park with monkey bars and swings for the kids, so carry on. No hiking and no trails. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood and chillax. If you want a bench to sit on, if you have a penny for 'making a wish' at the fountain, or you want to contemplate the icons: Indiana Jones and Yoda, this is the spot. Very lovely park with shade and benches. Dogs aren't allowed--parents should feel better about allowing their wee ones to run on the paths and grass (not saying that I haven't seen dogs in there, though). The flowers are beautiful! Great spot to teach kids about flowers and plants and let them work off some energy. read more

This park is located right next to city hall. You can see it from the street. They have street parking nearby. It's a cute, little spot to just lounge. They have multiple benches you can sit on surrounding the fountain. You can also sit on the grass - there were some families there laying on the grass with their blanket - super cute. The fountain has Indiana Jones & Yoda - I love oddities like this! So that was a plus! Love the location & overall a pretty cool park. read more

Hm. This park wasn't here last time I went through downtown San Anselmo. Well, here it is, and it's a nice addition to the scene. Because this town was all developed a hundred years ago, plopping a park down into this area is impossible, and it's nice that the town actually had an opportunity to do just that. Imagination Park is best described by what is not here. No playground, no BBQ pits, no picnic tables, no jogging track, and no hot tubs. It's mostly a place to relax, read, meet up with friends, and take a breather from spending your children's inheritance in the cute expensive boutiques on San Anselmo Ave. The unique feature is the fountain featuring statues of Indiana Jones and Yoda; George Lucas wrote these stories while living a few blocks from this spot. (I was hoping to write an entire review of this park in Yoda-speak, but I've never seen any of the movies he starred in, so I can't try to do it authentically. Yeah yeah yeah, "Do or do not. Cute little park located in San Anselmo. I expected this park to be a lot bigger but it's very small, with little to NO shade. The yoda and Indiana Jones statues are probably the only excitement you'll find here. Other than that there's lots of benches to sit and enjoy the sound of the fountain or watch the kids run around on the grassy area. read more

a little history: the site was an old furniture store, purchased by a local movie director and donated to the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce. With a little force the building was knocked down and a beautiful park was installed, complete with statues of the world's most handsome archeologist and his Jedi sidekick. When the building was knocked down, I was amazed how quickly the park was constructed, complete with a beautiful fountain, mature trees and bushes. the experience: I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon, the sun low in the sky as children played and danced in and around the fountain. It really is a beautiful park. The grass was fenced off, but a sign read "letting the grass take root till July 3rd". No big deal. No shade for the bench by the fountian in the late afternoon on a hot day, as all trees were planted on the NW corner of the park... bummer. What the town's folk say: Residents and store owners love the park. A few folks have said it's too small for kids to play, no playground...... I suggest the head across the street to Creek Park for tons of grass, a real creek and shade trees. By George, It's a wonderful park! read more

I think it is great that a park was put in among the fun shops of San Anselmo. I always liked this tiny town. This park makes it even neater. I see some folks complaining on Yelp that the park is too small and boring. It is small though it is large enough to be able to sit away from traffic and enjoy a good weather day. It is great for bringing coffee over from across the street. The park is clean, has wooden benches and pretty flowers and a grassy area. It improves the town center and is much nicer than many city parks. The neat Yoda/Indiana Jones bronzes on a fountain are fun! read more

Visitors may be slightly misled by the term "park." It is very small. You could stand at one end and walk to the other in about ten seconds. The pros: There is a nice fountain, with statues there of Yoda and Indiana Jones. The park is quiet, well maintained, and there are several benches for reading or relaxing. It would be the perfect place for a picnic. It is right at the center of downtown San Anselmo, where there are plenty of shopping and dining options. The cons: No swings. No slides. No jungle gym. This isn't really a con. Just know that this is a certain kind of park, and if you have young kids they may be all done with it after the excitement of the statues wears off. Look, if you're a Star Wars or Indy fan, you must go. If you want a quiet place to hang out, this is a good spot for you. If you're looking for a slide or a volley ball net, you won't find it here. read more

I would like to know who green-lighted this park design? This park is dull and the sculptures (likenesses of Yoda and Indiana Jones) look like they might have been ordered from a catalog sight unseen, perhaps made in China in mass and maybe, in imitation bronze. Seriously, are two fictional characters the best choice for lovely San Anselmo? The fountain is the worst feature but in addition the benches are not special at all and, the time I visited, were in full hot sun and there was no shade in which to sit . I was not impressed with the landscaping; it is unimaginative and the grass was yellowing and needed to be cut. The drinking fountain is the most interesting thing, a slightly unusual design with polished brass heads. Although, it was a very hot day and I was thirsty, I did not feel like drinking from the fountain... it is too close to the Indian Jones/ Yoda fountain and I could not shake the feeling that I would be drinking recycled water from there. I heard awhile ago that George Lucas was planning on building a park in San Anselmo and I was looking forward to something beautiful and unique, I mean with his money and connections and supposed talent, I expected something GREAT. I guess I missed any talk of the design so I was gobsmacked to see just how rinky-dink the finished design is. Better suited for a tacky theme housing development NOT San Anselmo. The thought occurred to me that perhaps Lucas wanted to install something cheap and slapdash to fill the space until he can ink a deal to build a building, then the park can go without too much loss on his part. The park surely is not something anyone would expect to, or even want to last... I'm very disappointed. Not much imagination went into the design of "Imagination" Park. The building that was torn down was actually very interesting. Now with the water shortage, all those dull plants, grass and ugly fountain will require a lot of water...what a colossal waste. Update: I just read in the IJ about a recent fundraiser for this park. The article states the fundraiser raised $8,000.00 and that the park will cost $40,000.00 per year to maintain (what!!!). Also goes on to say that 2 tour buses had already ventured into San Anselmo to showcase this insipid, namby-pamby waste ( my words). Okay San Anselmo merchants, you need to find some Indiana Jones and Star Wars trinkets to sell to the tourists ( I'm sure George can hook you up). read more
