Absolutely gorgeous area with trails along the Tiburon waterfront. I came midday, midweek, and found plenty of free parking. I love that there is a statue of Blackie, so sweet and special! The flowers were beautiful, being mid spring it was California iconic with all the poppies abloom! Twinkle and I enjoyed a very nice stroll, and she met some friendly dogs along the way as well. I cannot wait to come back here many, many times! Bring a jacket, it is chilly with the breeze coming off the water! read more

Expansive space, well paved area with beautiful city views by the ocean and plenty of seating areas to enjoy the water. The bike/walk area is combined. There is a clean bathroom on the premises. Well kept with birds on marshland and small wildlife along with local fauna. Nice spot to have a picnic and the trail goes straight downtown. read more

I have never been to the town of Tiburon before. As I was driving into town, I noticed a large dry pasture with a life size horse sculpture smack dab in the middle. The pasture had paved walking trails and a paved parking lot that ran near the edge of the shallow water inlet. So my curiosity was peaked, I beelined it over to check it all out. The parking was free and unlimited for the day; day use only. The Railroad Trail begins at the parking lot and loops into the town. The trail is paved and is for walkers and bicyclists. No cars are allowed on the trail but I saw one car haphazardly enter. It didn't get very far. A police officer happened to be nearby and promptly stopped them as did panicked pedestrians. There is a security presence even on the weekday that I visited. The pasture is along the trail. The horse sculpture is in tribute to Blackie. Blackie was a beautiful swayback horse. He was a calvary horse then became a cutting horse at rodeos. He retired at 12 years old and lived at this pasture for the next 28 years until his death in 1966. Nearby the sculpture is a memorial for him. But I noticed the plaque near his sculpture stated his year of birth as 1926 while his memorial plaque had the year 1933. On the other side of the pasture and parking lot is access to the water inlet. Against the gentle lapping waves, the views of Angel Island and the distant hazy San Francisco skyline is quite beautiful. I didn't have much time to spare since I was on a schedule, so I didn't stay long or venture to far down the trail. For sure next time, I would carve out time to walk the trail and view the remnants of the past while soaking in the views. read more

Lovely park with a nice trail that goes along the coast to tiburon. There are bathrooms, plenty of benches, garbage cans and everything is clean. From the main parking lot, it's about 2.5 miles to tiburon. There's a paved trail that is good for biking, running or walking. There are some magnificent views of the bay and San Francisco at some places. The parking lot has two parts and are free. It can get very crowded like today, so it can be easier to park in the neighborhood or closer to tiburon that is connected to the trail and park. read more

Blackie the sway-backed horse is a beloved Tiburon icon. Our younger daughter loves horses and has read the book about Blackie, so we stopped by on our drive out after visiting the town and Angel Island State Park yesterday. The horse stood in this pasture for the last couple of decades of its forty years, and is now commemorated with a metal sculpture. I loved that the sculpture is also sway backed like he was! Plenty of parking in the lot next to the pasture, and it is easy to get to as it is right off of Route 131 which connects Tiburon to Highway 101. read more

After brunch on a beautiful, clear, warm Sunday, the outdoors beckoned the girlfriend & I. It was a lazy Sunday & brunch was weighing heavily on both of us, so the beckoning was for more of leisurely stroll than a challenging hike. Blackies Pasture fit the bill perfectly. Tucked into a corner of Richardson Bay, right off Tiburon Blvd., is an open grass field & a bronze statue where Blackie still stands. Beyond the couple small parking lots & Blackies Pasture itself, a paved trail follows the shoreline over 2 miles all the way into downtown Tiburon. After luckily being graced with immediate parking, which isn't always the case here, we set out on the trail. It's mostly flat with gorgeous views of the Bay the whole way. The warm sun, a light breeze off the water, we took it all in & nearly walked the entire length of the trail before heading back. Before getting back to the car, there was a pit stop at a restroom that was very well-kept for a public park & a water break at a water fountain that was 1 the best functioning water fountains I've come across in a long time. & finally, there was a quick visit with Blackie to say hello to the horse that was so beloved so many years ago. Blackies Pasture is a wonderful & relaxing place to enjoy the outdoors. As a chaser to our brunch on a lazy Sunday, going for a walk in Blackies Pasture was also a lovely digestif. read more

I didn't know this park also had its place on Yelp . . . I've known about Blackie's Pasture ever since I first moved to San Rafael in late 1988. Occasionally, me and my two roommates would go down here and walk to downtown Tiburon and back. I don't live in Marin anymore, and I miss this park a lot. Tiburon is a rich little piece of paradise right on San Francisco Bay. Well, Richardson Bay to be accurate, but the tip just past downtown *is* on SF Bay. If you could design a park that would be totally Tiburon, you'd probably come up with what you find at Blackie's Pasture: right on the waterfront, easy access to the main road, always good weather (at least it seems like it's always good), lots of place for whatever suits your fancy, even a little uphill hiking if you wish. Great view of Sausalito, also a good view of San Francisco (no GG Bridge view). And there's even a statue of a humpbacked horse, so you know who Blackie was. It appears that the town loves this park, too. I've seen dogs running, soccer games playing, kites flying, friends picnicking, joggers jogging, bikers biking, three french hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree (just kidding about the last three items). We took our 1-year-old here, and she had a ball (literally; we'd kick the ball to her, and she wouldn't know what to do); then she met some cuuute puppies. When I was doing ministry in Mill Valley, I always thought that this would be a great place for a water baptism - be public about your faith while getting immersed in one of the most scenic suburban places you can imagine. Parking? Well, this took a star off. The parking lot is large for Tiburon, and is usually close to full. Then you walk a ways to get to the green. Or you can park across Tiburon Blvd., and it's only a few steps to the green -- that is, a few steps across a very busy 2-lane state highway with Beemers being driven fast by maniacs. C'mon down, there's no gate keeping us normal folk out. read more

For some reason, in the two and a half years we have lived in Marin, we haven't made it out to blackies pasture! Finally went out there with the kiddo and her friends for a play date. This place is perfect for walking, running, biking, scootering or just a picnic by the water. The view is stunning! I absolutely loved my walk and my daughter had so much fun with her friends. There is a nice playground for the kids as well, and lots of benches to hang out on. I am going to have to go back with my dogs, they are going to love the walk! read more

BLACKIE WAS A HORSE! He was also a beloved member of the Tiburon Peninsula communities. This pasture land was where Blackie was "retired" at the age of 12 from his illustrious career as both a Cavalry Horse in Yosemite and a Rodeo Cutting Horse. He lived here happily for another 28 years. Children and adults stopped by to pet him and to feed him apples & carrots - - all tossed together with love. He was a beloved part of this community. Blackie was deeply missed when he passed away at the age of 40. He was buried in this pasture and from then on it was known as "BLACKIES PASTURE." A simple cross & small plack, plus a life-size bronze statue, commemorate Blackie as the town's mascot. Today this Pasture is known for its beautiful outdoor trails for walking, running and biking, for its soccer field, for its beautiful views . . . . and especially for its memories of the friendship of a horse named Blackie. Every time I stop here to walk the trail, I try to always go over and lay my hand on Blackie's back. It somehow makes me feel like I am being touched by the great love this animal meant to this community. I'm going crazy on the vista reviews....firm believer that one should explore his surroundings, become familiar with them in order to appreciate the variety in landscapes and textures when viewed from different angles. And with this huge big Bay of ours to brag of (and an ocean to boot), 'tis a shame to the one who thinks the word hermit is parity to Hermitage... Brief history lesson: Blackie was a swaybacked cutting horse whose primary claim to fame was the fact that he, an equine (yep!), swam across the Bay, from south Marin to Crissy Field in 1938. All true. After retiring, this horse stood in what is now his pasture, for 28 years. A gorgeous, gorgeous view, and sometimes quite windy too But the wonderful location and the great location makes for any solid after -dinner stroll (A "post amuse bouche", if you will, as organic as it gets), or a pre-sunrise jog. I just enjoy coming here for the views. Oh, and great conversation as well, being the bubbly-pit and human Asian incarnation of Curious George, rolled into one, that I am. It's simply stunning. If you wanna complete the whole loop, give yourself some time to do so... this area is not that small! read more

This is one of my absolute favorite places to spend a beautiful afternoon outside. The views across the Bay are spectacular. The park is well maintained with many benches and picnic tables. There are also some open field areas perfect for throwing down a blanket and having a picnic. My wife and I like to walk the path down to Tiburon and have lunch at one of the restaurants overlooking the bay. It's a great way to spend a casual Saturday. There is a good deal of free parking, but it can still be difficult to find a spot on the weekends when the weather is nice. If you're in the area, you should definitely stop by. It's free, and you won't regret it. read more

It's beautiful. Like most of Marin County. However, unlike other parts of Marin, this one is a piece of cake to get to. You park right off the main road and you're here. Piece of cake. No windy roads and wigged out GPS. Other Marin parks are well worth visiting but this is where I go when I want convenient. My only (very minor) complaint is the sun is always beaming on you. Hardly any shade. This place is wonderful but best enjoyed early morning or evening IMO. read more

We went out to purchase a bike at REI and the great associate at REI directed us to Blackies Pasture for a family bike ride. The trail is absolutely gorgeous - you can see the San Francisco Skyline, Angel Island and the Golden Gate bridge throughout most of the ride. The trail itself is very clean and has depots with doggie bags for quick pick-ups. =) My son had a great time riding here on his new bike since the trail is fairly level and pretty wide and accommodating to foot / bike / dog traffic. He also loved the playground which is by the water and has a great view. I can't wait to return! read more

How lucky am I to have this in my backyard?! Having grown up in Marin, I've had many experiences/memories along Blackie's Pasture. Apparently, the place is named after a much beloved horse (hence, the horse statue by the parking lot). Nowadays, it's just a beautiful park and running/hiking path with incredible bay front views (Golden Gate Bridge, SF skyline, Sausalito, etc). On any given day, you'll see runners, hikers, moms with baby strollers, children with kites, etc. This place is a golden playground for kids of all ages! A friend and I came here the other day for a run. She's currently training for her first 1/2 marathon. Running from Blackie's parking lot to downtown Tiburon and back is exactly 5 miles. It's a scenic run and not too hilly. The whole trek should take you no more than an hour. That being said, 5 miles is still 5 miles - so I was huffing and puffing by mile 4. If you're not the running type, I'd recommend doing a more casual walk along the path. This will give you a better chance to stop and smell the roses (while taking in spectacular views of the Bay). For those of you who don't like to run, there's plenty of grass for soccer games and/or picnicking. If you ever wonder why folks in Marin pay the crazy mortgages they do, it's because places like Blackie's Pasture are in their backyard. It's hands down one of the most scenic running/bike/hiking paths in the country. read more

Run Run Run Run Run Run Run-- You wake up in the fog encased city, stretch, yawn, anticipate Blackies Pasture... You get in your car and drive up 101 and turn in to the parking lot (bonus points because their is an actual parking lot). The air is fresh, the people are friendly, and the running is good! I start my run on the path by the water and head in to Tiburon, then loop around and come back. On my "loop" I always see bike riders, other runners, people doing Yoga on the side, its a very friendly trail. read more

What a wonderful spot to spend a few hours. Great parking area with plenty of parking if you arrive early enough. Fantastic paved trail along the beautiful bay. Lots of benches to stop and enjoy the view. Bathrooms in multiple spots. And two great playgrounds to accommodate all ages of children. The grassy fields are well kept and are great for family and pups to play. There are also drinking fountains along the way so if you forget water you'll be okay. The entire area seems very well kept and there wasn't a lot of trash or debris laying around. It can get crowded but everyone is very friendly. They were working on one of the fields when we were there but it didn't hinder our morning trip. All around I would recommend this park for anyone who I looking to get outdoors in the Tiburon area. read more

I end up here most weekends for an hour or two, chilling on the beach and watching the fog roll in. Running, biking, rollerblading, walking, dog-walking...a multi-use area. Blackies Pasture with the Tiburon Bike Path running along side. A fantastic area. It is about 2.5-3 miles into Tiburon along the path, it continues on from there. Really a great walk. There are sandy/clay shoulders for running, and a paved path for bikers/rollerbladers in the center. The path is lined with poop bag stations, we did not see any poop the entire walk that was not cleaned up! That is amazing, responsible dog owners who take pride in this beautiful area. Benches line the entire route. Large parking lot right at Blackie's Pasture, with road parking along the bike path. Just up the path is a children's play gound that is fenced in. Bathrooms, garbage cans and water fountains with doggy bowls line the route as well -- this is a really well thought out recreational area! The bike path runs along the water, with access points along the way to get to the beach/water. Just South of Blackie's Pasture, 800 yards or so is another field with small rolling hills, even though the sign says "leash law enforced" there were a dozen +dogs off leash running around and playing. I cannot wait for a little warmer weather to bring a bottle of wine, a picnic lunch take a leisurely stroll, have lunch, let Rufous run around till his tongue hangs down to his knees, then walk into Tiburon, have a cocktail or two or three...then stroll back. Views are amazing, tons of great bird and people watching, some exercise, what is not to love. read more

If you need to see and feel like you life has you down. You should go to this park. Is close and you can see the city and the mountains and ocean all at one. I went here and I saw many birds. People playing and kids laughing. This is so beautiful. Unfortunately you can't see the sun go down but you can see the reflections of the sunset. read more

Blackies is my free therapy. Amazing sunrise or sunset, so much drama with the fog coming over the hill. great, running, biking, rollerblading, doggie path, everyone on the path is super friendly, great gravel strip on either side of the pavement for you runners out there with joint issues. Great for kids, as it's flat and there is a barrier between the path and the street. Many a bench to stop at to sit and contemplate life. read more

Cool green area with memorial and statue dedicate to Blackie, part of a longer trail going into Tiburon that is a dual walking path/bike path. Also includes plenty of trees to climb, mud flats, a wildlife refuge, and space for running around. If you walk far enough, great bridge views. This place was pretty cool. Parking's a bit hairy and you gotta watch out for the bikers trying to steal the entire path. read more

McKegney green is the Sports field towards the south east of parking it's a wonderful place to play. Beautiful, dog friendly park right on the water. Definitely a popular weekend spot but we had no problem finding a spot in the overflow lot. There is a path along the water that a lot of people were enjoying, next time we need to bring our bikes! Has paved road alongside sand/gravel path winding along the bay from the north off Tiburon BLVD (Hwy 131) to Belvedere Island where it loops around ending in downtown Tiburon. Childrens playgrounds, modern restrooms, green grassy hills, a fitness par course, tennis courts off one side next to road, fun bayside or on the path skating, blading, or biking.
