We were looking for a martial arts program relatively close to our home as well as an instructor who would be a good match. It was hard to get my son motivated to do extracurricular activities after school, but since he was into the "ninja" phase, it was the perfect time. He was a bit timid at first, so we had to take him to a couple of trials before he agreed to join the group. Uncle Jon and Auntie Jana are so patient and easy to talk to. There was never any pressure for us to commit since we were not sure if our son would take interest. By the 3rd class, he was fully ready. He looks forward to martial arts every week. My son definitely needed the extra disciplinary practice. Uncle Jon makes it fun for the kids, but he also serious and makes sure the kids are on task. It is so amazing to see their growth and focus on the floor. We are happy that we enrolled him in this program. He is the Excellent Kids ages 4-6 program and attends twice a week. read more

I enrolled my 5 year old son at Impact Martial Arts, and given his age he was put in the excellent kids program. I am very pleased with the program and the entire staff who quickly become family. Uncle Jon (the instructor) teaches them different values which include - discipline, respect, focus, balance... they also learn about being a kind human. The classes are enjoyable for my son who gets bored quickly. I love the cardio exercises and mostly love how much my son is in to it. Uncle Jon and Auntie Jana are both great with kids. My son talks about Uncle Jon all the time and is always looking forward to the next class. Most importantly, I saw an immediate positive change in his behavior after a couple of sessions. Uncle Jon and the family here is so welcoming! I wanted my son to be more active. I gave him the choice of picking what he wants to do. Instead of forcing my child into something and making him miserable. He chose Karate so I researched on Yelp and the communication with Jon was what made my final decision to enroll my son. He responded quickly and answered any questions I had. The class that he is in is the Kinder Karate class. I like how they are given specific badges and its up to the parents to decide if they earn those badges. Instead of formality and just giving out badges. It teaches them to really earn those badges. They have worked on Focus, Teamwork, & Control so far. The class is well kept and clean. Classes always start on time so don't be tardy! I definitely recommend this place if you have a child eager to get into Karate. read more

My son has been going to IMA since January 2020. He started at 4yo and I was concerned he wasn't going to pay attention or keep up. I'm so happy we stuck to it because he's really starting to show progress. Not just in martial arts, but every day they learn about respect, compassion, control and so many other great characteristics. Through SIP, IMA continues to offer classes through zoom and it's a great way to incorporate exercise into our usual stay-at-home-routine. The instructors, Uncle John and Auntie Jana, come up with creative ways to keep the kids engaged and are committed to providing a similar experience to if we were onsite. For the past year, I have been stuck on what and how to put all of the positive words and praise that my family has for Impact Martial Arts. My daughters (9 and 13) began their martial arts journey with IMA a year or so ago and they absolutely love everything about Shaolin Kenpo...the dances (katas), techniques, kicks, punches etc. and look forward to learning more and more. It has made a huge impact in their lives thus far, not just with learning self defense, but socially, with confidence, mental health, awareness, and discipline. In the beginning, the girls weren't too excited to start a new venture in karate, but after their first class...they were hooked! As days, weeks, and months passed, it has become their "happy place": a place where they feel safe, welcomed, and where new friendships have developed. This all could not have been achieved without Uncle Jon, Auntie Jana, Instructors Jerique and Jelly, and the big boss Jaida. Combined...you get a balanced learning experience that will pull out the best of a student. My son and I have been looking for a martial arts school and instructor that would be a good fit for my son. After numerous "free trials", visits, and calls to numerous studios in the Tri-Cities area, we found Ripping Tiger Shaolin Kenpo. The instructor, "Uncle" John, is amazing with the kids. His patience, tone and just the right amount of discipline made my son's first visit amazing. His assistants were even more remarkable. The assistants (who, mind, you are barely older than the kids getting the instruction) showed a level of compassion, empathy and patience that many adults have failed to master. Uncle John made us feel like family and not "clients". I know how intimidating it can be trying to find the right style, instructor and energy. I would highly suggest, recommend, no, INSIST that you give this place a try, at least a call. read more

This place is the best. When we first started almost a year ago my son had so many balance issues and no flexibility. He is 4 almost five but looks like an almost 7 year old. Ripping Tiger Shaolin Kenpo has been an amazing experience for my children. My son has grown and matured tremendously in the last two years! This small family run school is the perfect environment for children (and adults!) of all ages. My daughter is 4 and still learning to listen and she has a blast with her kinder karate class. My favorite part is that the student to teacher ratio is great- your child will get one on one time and the patience is such a reward.
