We've been with Waterworks for almost two years now and we've been at every single Hayward location (Foothill, Hesperian, and now Whipple) mostly due to scheduling reasons and being somewhat equal distance to most of them. After a bit of a snafu with the constant HVAC closures at both Hesperian and Whipple, as well as a very professionally handled customer service escalation (shoutout to the amazing support from Alicia) and additional support from a swim manager (thank you Michelle) we can now happily give Waterworks an updated review! I've have now had my son in lessons with both Tay and Zane and couldn't be happier with our son's progress. We've cycled through many instructors through all our time at Waterworks but Tay and Zane have truly been the best match for my child (and we really have had cycled through 4+ instructors before due to high turnover) and we truly hope Tay and Zane are going nowhere anytime soon! My son's confidence has soared since working with both these instructors and I can't wait to see him swim even more independently. Daydreaming about him joining a swim team one day! He went from being in tears out of fear before every swim lesson to eagerly plopping himself into the pool and looking forward to class every time. And even when he does get nervous, both Tay and Zane know how to help him take deep breaths and practice other coping skills to feel less nervous. Waterworks tends to be on the more expensive side but not that much different in pricing than other swim schools in the area. Most importantly, the indoor pool is a perk as I've had friends recommend some of the local swim clubs but since they're all outdoor, the seasonality of swim wouldn't work for us. I just tell myself we are paying more for the year round access to indoor swim lessons. We have been coming to this waterworks location for almost a year and my son has made amazing progress with his instructor Edgar. First, the swim school offers many swim packages from private to semi private lessons and how you chose to pay, whether through class packages or recurring monthly payments. It's easy to schedule classes and also make them up. They have plenty of instructors that are skilled and fun ! They have a swim lane at the city sports club and it's ample enough space to run multiple lessons at a time. The lesson times are very flexible as well, as early as 8am to 7pm, depending on your instructor's schedule. My wife, son and I all took lessons at the City Sports Club in Hayward. Everything was going well until I logged in to schedule my son last make up class. For some reason it was removed and no longer available. I tried calling Customer Service they said it was removed because we did not have a paid class left. The way the make up classes work with the paid classes is very confuing. They said if I paid for 1 additional class they would re activate our makeup class. So in other words I have to pay on top of what we already paid to get the class back. This is so wrong just give people the lesson thar they paid for. I will share my experience in the following categories: tl;dr flexible on schedule, a bit pricy, but I like the 1on1/semi private classes for child beginner/newbie can build solid foundation and accelerate learning. 1. Location : There are several locations close to me, we go to the Foothill one. Sometimes we go to Hesperian if our coach takes a day off. So that's convenient. The Foothill location, you don't need to go thru the men's or women's bathroom to get to the pool, so make dad-daughter, mom-son team less uncomfortable. 2. Teacher : It really depends on who you pick and your expectation, but you can always try scheduling with different teacher to find the suitable one. We love our teacher. 3. WaterWorks Website for scheduling: We enjoy the flexibility because sometimes we can just cancel and schedule make-up. Makeup classes do have expiration and they have sooner expiration if you are in a lower tier (depends on how much $ you spend with them in a year) And there are some rules and restrictions here and there, but the cool thing is their customer service (whether it's through online chat, or email or phone, you get your questions answered) . So we get those rules sorted out and we'll just avoid any restrictions next time... 4. Price: The semi private price recently was raised a month ago, but if you buy a lot of hours up front, you still get some discount. 5. Swim Hours: One semi-private is 20mins each. 1 coach to up to 2 students. It is kinda expensive, but if you look at other classes that are 30 mins, but 5-8 students, you can only get maybe 6 min of swim time/instruction time, I would still do it with WaterWorks. There is a lot of prep work and post-swim shower we have to do for swim classes, so I would rather spend a bit more $ and more time to make sure the child gets a lot of practice when we go to the class(es). read more

Can I just say, Edgar & Carson exceeded all our expectations. When we first started 1 year ago, we were so nervous because our son, Nolan didn't have a good experience with swim lessons at a young age and we think that left him traumatized. He never wanted to get his head wet, let alone out his head under water past his chin. After his 2nd lesson, Edgar had him under water. From that point on, we knew we were in the right place. The care and sensitivity to understanding our concerns carried with Edgar and over to Carson as well when we had him go 2x a week. Honestly, by month 3, our son was an experienced swimmer who dominated in back stroke. He loves Edgar and Carson because they make it so fun for him amd less scary. His confidence in swimming has grown exponentially and we couldn't thank them enough. Eventually Edgar needed to change his schedule due to school conflicts and we transitioned over to Zane. Zane was just as amazing and he strengthened his breast and butterfly by explaining why the steps and motions of the strokes matter. My 8yo daughter worked with three coaches - Xiry, Nick (who has since left) and Tiara. She knew the basic strokes and all three coaches did an excellent job of getting her to the next level, tightening up each stroke and teaching flip turns. They also started doing drills with her to improve consistency and speed. All three are excellent with kids and have an eye for detail. What I love most about this place is the flexibility with scheduling, competitive pricing, and the skilled and friendly instructors! It took trying out 3 other instructors before finding Mayet, so don't hesitate to switch if one isn't working (one kept arriving late since we were first of day). The company is organized and keep us informed of changes. They're strict about measuring the chemicals in the pool and even halting if it's off. Both my kids has been going to Waterworks for about 2 years now. We love both Kevin G and Xiry! Kevin G is our 5y.o's coach. We've seen him progressing so much from being afraid around the water to be fully comfortable in the water now. He can now swim independently across the swimming pool. Kevin G has been a phenomenal instructor for my kid, his teaching style is firm, gentle and also structured. He's very hands on, and my son listens and looks up to him. My son is now very confident with his swimming skills and it's amazing to see him to be at this state at such a young age! Our daughter is 2.5 yo and just started with Xiry. She's progressing very well so far, and getting more and more comfortable in the water. Xiry is very gentle, and kind, and my daughter always look forward to see her in her swimming class. We started taking our 4 year old nephew here a month ago. We are so happy we found waterworks swim school in Hayward. We were taking him to this other place Alameda Recreation Parks and they were very unprofessional. There was no way of knowing what he was learning every week. They had a different teacher every time we took him and we weren't even inform. They also didn't have enough teacher. They couldn't teach the private lesson we were paying for due to the short staff, however they neglected to contact us and cancel. We showed up and had to go back home. My nephew was super upset. My 4-5 year old was enrolled in weekly-ish swim lessons for about 8 months and made really great progress. When he started, he was comfortable in the water, but could not swim independently at all. By the end, he was able to swim across the pool flipping back and forth between belly and back. He made particularly good progress with Elijah and Max. The program, like everything, has pros and cons. Everything else we looked at was super full and/or much more expensive. Also Waterworks offers switching day/times and make ups as needed, which was huge for us. On the downside, lessons are short - only 20 minutes, which isn't great if your child takes 5 or 10 minutes to warm up, which is why we decided not to enroll our younger daughter. Ideally, I would recommend enrolling in private classes with your favorite instructor at your ideal day/time. But if that's too expensive for you, as it was for us, you can look semi-private classes at a less popular time and you may often get private lessons for a semi-private price. Also if you have flexibility in your schedule, you can make the most of your make up classes by cancelling and restarting your recurring lessons - just make sure you understand the policy on make up lessons first (I recommend calling)! read more

My son's went for over a year, I will say the instructors are very patient. My youngest just started and so far good. When instructors call out Waterworks will try and find a replacement which has had to happen a few times, sometimes they can not. My only real complaint is that the lessons aren't long enough. They are only 20 minutes long. The classes should be at least 30 minutes. Other swims schools lessons seem to be between 25-30 minutes long. This was our 4th attempt to bring my kids to a class and no prior notification of the class being closed. I even verified with the office the day before that it was going to be opened bc it has been saying closed. She said she spoke with the MANAGER to report back to me that it will be open for sure!!!! It's 40 degrees in the morning and I'm dressing my kids taking up time and my kids are constantly let down with this sorry excuse of a swim school. My daughter took swimming lessons when she was 5yrs old together with 3 other girls for a 30 minute session per week. (So if you do the math, each kid is just getting about 7.5 minutes of attention from the instructor.) She didn't like it as they were only staying at one spot while waiting for their turn to go with the instructor. I also noticed that the instructor was impatient and doesn't really care about the kids. We never came back after completing her full sessions and even after paying for another set of sessions. This summer I took my 7 yr old daughter here (waterworks) for 8 sessions and I couldn't be more happier with the result! I'm happy at how I can manage her schedule based on our availabilities. After the 8 sessions she's now able to swim, dive and float on her own! YES! All these after 8 sessions! She's finally comfortable in the water. I'm so glad I enrolled her here! hands down the worst school ever. We tried multiple times to schedule classes for 2 of my kids and the last several weeks were told the swimming pool was closed. On top of that, they were trying to tell me they couldn't schedule my boys in the same class though slits were avilable. We got an email reminders saying they were charging us for classes they hadn't even taken yet because of auto billing. The day of their class, we were told class instructor was being replaced with another and to go to the school. I show up and the front desk person at the gym says they cancelled all classes. No call or email stating anything! This company has no courtesy to their customers, no sense of logistics or organization. Who the hell does business like this? If you want time wasted and money taken, by all means join them. If you value your time, stay far from dealing with them. Their website is joke, nothing on their is guaranteed. Stephen is THE BEST. Our toddler has been working with him for around six months (he started at three, now he is four) and he loves Steve. Steve is really kind, very encouraging, a nice person, and a great teacher. Instructor is very good. Three stars for teaching skills. However my biggest problem is that they are scheduled 20 minutes back to back, they don't have time before or after which makes the lesson shorter. I have had 48 classes so far none was over 18mins(yes I time each class). And if you arrive early abd you are the first lesson, instructor will never start even one minute earlier, so finishing 2 mins early is not fair!! read more
