I have been to different gyms, HIIT, yoga kick boxing you named it. But this one I sticked with for 2 years. Coach Arvin is the best I have worked with. He taught me how to boxing from fundamentals to techniques. He is so patient with me to correct my posture and standing. Not only does he teach me how to boxing how to sparring but also he teaches me how to follow the rule and discipline. Of course the self dense techniques. Lots of sweat and lots of fun and I am not looking forward to every class with coach Arvin. The buddies in the gyms are very friendly and the place is spacious and clean. I went here with my boyfriend after he found an article in the newspaper. He just wanted to check it out and I went a long for the ride. The place wasn't too hard to find its pretty close to 880, Marina exit. We were greeted in the front office area by a nice smiling young lady. She gave us the overview on prices, schedules, history of the trainers, etc One of the trainers offered to show us the gym. He just got finished training the kids class. When we walked in the gym we were both amazed how large it was. My bf has checked out a few boxing gyms and said this was the largest. He said they started an amateur team and we watched them train for about 5 minutes. They were covered in sweat. It was very nice not to have any pressure sales people. They were very nice and told us if we would interested in a free class just to drop by. I would highly recommend this gym. read more

I've worked out at 5 different boxing gyms in the bay area and before I discovered the Kennel I have to admit I was a serial gym ditcher. THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE TRIAL CLASS FOR KIDS... My apologies for the long review but we were NOT happy lol I took my son (9 yrs. old) to Kennel Boxing Gym after his trainer at Kings Gym schedule changed and was unable to continue training my son (we loved him btw). So I bring my son to attend the $15 trial class at Kennel and it was a horrible experience. The trainer, whose name I can't remember, she sat on a dang stool for a large portion of the class as she gave the kids instructions and then if they didn't do it correctly or weren't paying attention she made them do push-ups. Here's my issues with that: 1. If they are doing the drills or moves incorrectly then that more than likely means that they need to be taught or reminded on how to do it the correct way. 2. If you're going to make them do push-ups then show them how to do them correctly! None of the kids were doing them correctly but did she bother to get up off the stool and show the correct way? NO The class looked more like a summer camp to me. She had them doing activities that I had never seen in a boxing gym before...Relay race anyone? Yeah they did like umm...3 relay races. She allowed them to hit the bags for about 1-2 minutes and never once did I see her show the correct fighting stance or any of that. Since my son had some training already, I could see in his face he grew quite frustrated quickly with this...person, I can't bring myself to refer to her as a trainer. He's used to 1:1 training but we didn't have a problem with a group of 6-8 kids and thought it could be cool in a group environment. So that could be good for someone who is looking for their child to build their social skills. Anyway... We ran out of there and my son got out the front door before me, do I need to say we would never return or recommend this place? LOL... We are now with an amazing trainer who his original trainer recommended and knew would be a great fit for my son. I should've just asked him in the first place but I thought I'd try a place closer to home in San Leandro....BIG LET DOWN. read more

One of the absolute best decisions ever was signing up for boxing lessons at the Kennel Boxing Gym!!! Cancelled my 24-hour gym membership after just a few months into it, because one month at the Kennel is better than an entire year at a regular gym. Everything is great here; a lot of great members; very diverse, including both male and female boxers; however, what makes this place the ABSOLUTE BEST are the coaches! Super dedicated to working with you, and they are extremely knowledgeable of the sport. Never would have thought I'd be a good boxer, but...well...I am ha ha, thanks to the Kennel Boxing Gym of course =). This has been the best boxing gym that I've trained at thus far...and believe me, I've trained at a few in the Bay Area... I love the fact that the trainers are very passionate about what they do. They pay close attention to your technique, even though you're in a group setting. The skilled trainers are always there to guide, motivate, and also correct your boxing technique. It doesn't matter if you're a pro (in your imagination :P ) or a beginner, they are very reassuring and easy to work with. The monthly fee is pretty reasonable as well, considering the caliber of training you receive. There's no crazy contract to sign either and they really don't want to steal all your money and run...like the other gyms!!! I would definitely train her on a regular basis, however - I am approximately 323 miles away now. I have searched near and far in the San Fernando Valley area for training that matches The Kennel Boxing Gym...the only thing that has come close is private lessons at a boxing gym! :( Really wished I would've found you guys sooner! A truly dedicated boxing gym. After my first trial class I immediately signed up. Whether you boxed before or just a beginner, the classes will seriously test your strength and conditioning. The atmosphere is also on point, as everyone is there to put in work. Another plus is that equipment is always open, no waiting. I went with the 6 month membership that gives you access to the gym at all times+boxing classes. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Awesomest (if thats a word) Boxing Gym to be a member at. You have people here of ALL ages, BOTH sexes, ALL races, ALL sizes. The coaches are very encouraging, works with you anytime of the day you're there. (EXCEPT between 1-3pm they kicked me out cause coach was hungry and needed to go home and eat). But you Dont have to be in the class to come in to work out and use equipments. you Dont have to be in class for the coach to drill you and give you tips and corner you in a spar. NO King of the Gym mentality here, there's Pro fighters here and guys that haven't put on a pair of gloves in their Whole life time, EVERYONE gets along, Pro fighters or experienced fighters help out new comers like they get paid. 5 stars!!! read more

My close friend started training here and at first I wasn't quite sure if I could do it,but then I started my first personal training session on my birthday(yes I said it on my bday) of 2013 and it was the best I have ever done! Arvin is one of the best trainers I have ever had he does not make you feel uncomfortable nor is this place intimidating. They cater to your needs an what you are trying to achieve whether it be weight loss,toning or even learning how to box. As the year progressed I could see and feel results and that was the best part,but because Arvin also trains pro and amateur boxers he had to focus on them I was kinda bummed until he paired me with Ron and I was still happy because they communicate with each not just pass you on to the next trainer and have to explain everything all over again. Ron already knew what my goals were even though they Ron and Arvin has different styles you will never get board they keep you sweating and give you push that you never thought you had and you even end up surprising yourself. Now hitting close to two years I couldn't say that I have been happier than to train at the kennel and to have great motivation that keeps me moving and to push me to limits that I never thought I could do. Selena has been kicking my ass all up and down this gym. I've taken many boxing classes before, but this is my first time ever having a woman as my coach and I must say that it became 10x harder versus a guy. I've gotten better with my stance, formation, breathing, etc. and I thoroughly enjoy the 1.5 hour workout. The bootcamp is the most intense and strenuous that I've ever experienced in all my years of working out and I love every painful and exhausting minute of it. So I've been looking to join a boxing gym for a while now to get in shape and saw The Kennel Boxing Gym was near my house so I decided to stop by one afternoon to check it out. I was approached by one of the coaches who showed me around and told me that there is a class that same day and I could come and try it out. I went back and tried out part of the beginner's class and got some one on one attention working on my stance and jab - I was hooked! I went in the office and they explained to me the fees (which are quite reasonable) and the equipment I would need. So I signed up and bought some hand wraps and gloves from them too. Been doing the classes for a week now and it's been awesome! You really get a good workout. I have parts of my muscles that are sore the next day that I never get working out at 24hr. If your goal is to lose weight and get in shape this is definitely the place to be. Also, the trainers and coaches are really good because they pay attention to you and teach you the right form and technique. Its a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere and everybody is willing to help you out when you ask questions (which I do a lot). I had no idea that there is so much to learn in boxing - footwork, proper punching technique, movement, etc. Just hitting the heavy bags can be fun too if you want to de-stress! read more

I have looked for a boxing gym that offered a class for weightloss, without so much revolving around the technique. I am about to finish my 4 week boxing bootcamp and I am literally in LOVE!!!! The exercises are different every class, techniques get built up as you go along and just the right amount of motivation from the instructor. No one is in your face yelling at you... I wouldn't like that. Extremely comfortable workout environment, spacious layout and plenty of equipment. A++ PS. i've tried a lot of gyms in the area. This is the best gym I've been to! Walking into 24 hr fitness, Ballys, Golds etc. I've always had that "tough guy" vibe from everyone in those gyms. Here at the Kennel, it's like a big family! Everyone helps each other and you never feel embarrassed to ask for help. The trainers are always on the floor working with us and encouraging us to get better. I walk in the front door and feel appreciated fr coming. When I miss time, I feel missed by everyone. My 1 year anniversary with the gym came and I got an email stating their appreciation and happiness with my business. Has any other gym done that? NEVER! I recommend this gym to EVERYONE! I've started going to the Kennel a little over 3 years ago, at first I was scared not because of the gym but myself. Being there just felt right, the coaches & staff always make me feel welcomed, encouraged me, motivated me, and made feel that no matter your size or ability is that fact that I was there trying that made me feel that I enjoyed going every time. I myself had some health issues that have kept me from going as liked, the members are all great people, great environment all around. I decided to put my son in the beginner Boxing class, when he first started he was scared because he didn't know what to expect.The instructor was very patient, hands on , she showed him; Punching, footwork, physical training, & the mental benefits my son has evolved in . I have watch my son grow so strong because of his trainer he has. It's been over a year now and he goes to his training class 2 times a week, plus he goes to the gym on his own 2 more times a week, (4days a week total). He enjoys his trainer, loves her advice, and that she is patient with him. My son walks 4 of 5 days from school for 1.5 miles to get to the gym, just because he enjoys going to his class and training with the trainer. My son is stronger physically but more importantly mentally. I really disagree about the " based on the KIDS trial class" review that was posted here. Take into consideration this: IT'S A KIDS CLASS KIDS WILL GET BORED DOING SAME THING EVERY TIME IT;'S A KIDS CLASS PUSH-UPS ARE NEVER ALWAYS DONE PERFECT BY EVERYONE IT'S A KIDS CLASS TEACHING THEM THE BASICS TAKES TIME NOT ALL IN 1 HOUR CLASS IF A TRAINER IS TO HARD ON THE KIDS, PARENTS COMPLAIN. IF THEY TO ARE BEING SUPPORTIVE, THEY NOT DOING THEIR JOB. REALLY?? I am creating a Yelp account specifically to spread the word about this gym. The trainers at the Kennel have done an incredible job of building a boxing gym that is both accessible and challenging to all skill levels. Men, Women, young, old, beginners, professionals and all points in between can be found on the huge floor of this gym training at all hours of the day. The classes remain fresh and challenging (I still find this to be true even after attending regularly for over a year now), the trainers are friendly and accessible, and the members do a great job of keeping up an upbeat, but focused environment. If you are looking for a challenging workout or just looking to develop your boxing skills, the Kennel Boxing Gym is an easy recommendation. Personal note: I was a fan of boxing and wanted to try to learn more about the details of what is happening in the ring, so I attended a walk-in class with absolutely no experience. This review is primarily based on the Strength & Conditioning class offered at the Kennel Boxing Gym. This class offers an intense workout utilizing dumbbells, weighted bars, slam balls, and battle rope-incorporating them in a multitude of different exercises that will leave you sweating and exhausted. You will definitely feel like your entire muscles have been worked out at the end of each class. The class is taught by Coach Emerson and I really appreciate his coaching style and training methods. He pushes you to your limits but also understands that each individual has their own fitness level and experience. When I first started the class I struggled with some of the activities due to pain in my lower back. Coach Emerson took the time to show me exercises that I could use to help strengthen my back. He makes sure that your fitness goals are met and mixes things up each class to keep things fresh. Some of the conditioning exercises include burpees, tire flips, squats, bear crawls, and planks. I've left a review before about their staff, facility and their classes...but this is for their personal training. I began training for Tough Mudder Tahoe 2012 in April of 2012, sat down with my trainer Brian Jugarap and he forewarned me of the level of difficulty that he was going to push me at, and how I had to follow a strict diet. I was prepared, mentally, but not physically - Brian fixed all of that. I didn't follow the diet, but that was my own personal problem, but physically, I lost 30+ lbs prepping for the event. For 5 months he pushed me to my limits and turned a 30 minute private session 4x week into a sweat fest of pain, fatigue, and wanting to not go the following day. As the event grew closer, I was more and more confident I could finish and he even took the time to work out with me outside of our training in order to help me. You can't find that kind of service at 24 Hour Fitness, or Bally's. You find that at the Kennel. Want another reason to join? yes, the personal training is expensive, but much cheaper than most. Can everybody afford it? Maybe, maybe not. The question you need to ask yourself...how much is your health and fitness worth to you? Get off the couch, and hit the gym...if their classes and training don't make you excited to get back into shape...then maybe working out just isn't for you. This is home and the folks running this gym are like family (including the dogs Champ and Tux). Back in 2013 I came to this gym via word of mouth and looking to develop a different and much, much, much needed workout regimen. My friend hooked it up with my first pair of wraps and the following week I took my first class. It was hard... I even questioned if I should come back and sure enough I cut the bull shit and kept coming. Life tip/friendly reminder* Starting brand new is bumpy. Show up, come with the right attitude and be consistent if you want results. With great guidance like the coaches and staff, that's really all you need to make progress. Take this coming from someone that did not know how to jab at 145+ pounds standing at 5'1. Then, advancing to the intermediate class and entering a competition at 115 pounds. To this day, I am still in amazement that all this time has already passed and so much growing has happened. I can firmly say that I'm a product of this gym working under majority of the coaches in rotation. Shout out to Dennis, Jordan, Joel, JR, Emerson, Coach Arc and Coach Arvin! That being said, all have a good eye for technique and know how to push you passed quitting being an option! Walking out of the gym knowing you accomplished a class, a sparring session or simply hitting the bags has to be one of the highlights of my week. Last but not least, I want to add that the Kennel really puts on for the community! A few years back they allowed my organization to fundraise funds to go to the Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines, and even donated gym passes for event to also raise funds for the Indigenous communities being displaced. On Thanksgiving day, they even hosted an event to support victims of the devastating NorCal fire. I really have nothing more to say, but great things. After reading the reviews, this place really lives up to its reputation. I've been coming here for almost a year now and enjoy it every time.
