It was important to us that my daughter(16) could access the gym any time after staffed hours. Two employees assured me that she would have full access. (For clarity she just wanted to be able to go to the gym after work. Gym is unstaffed after 8pm and sometimes she was off at 8:45) She utilized the gym after staffed hours numerous times, until the other day she was not allowed entry. I went to the gym and let her in thinking it was a malfunction with her finger print. The next day I received an email with a list of penalties and fees for letting a minor enter after staffed hours. This information was not included in our welcome package and when I contacted the gym, the receptionist assured me she was a full access member. He was unsure of the issue. I was still waiting for a call back from a manager or the owner. Yesterday I went to the gym and was working out when the female owner interrupted me to give me unsolicited advice on where and how I was performing my box jumps. I kindly declined her suggestion . As she walked away she yelled "you'll break your shins doing that" I informed her that I am a personal trainer but thank you. Side note: she was literally walking around the gym without socks or shoes. I approached the male owner to discuss the issue and she just couldn't help herself. She just had to try and get her point across. Even after I told her I wasn't speaking to her. Carl said he could cancel my membership for me with out penalty. I am going to check tomorrow to see if it's been done.

Called to confirm this was true and I let the front desk woman know I was 29 and he was 21 and asked if there was any way he could work out. She said only 23 and older could use a free day pass but if we paid a day pass fee then he could work out. Once we got there she took a look at our IDs and turned us away saying only 23 and older can be guests. Not a big deal that gyms have their weird rules but would have been nice to know all the information prior to driving out there - not sure if the front desk woman had an issue with us working out there or she truly didn't know her own policies. Nothing on the website gives an indicator that 23 is the limit to be a guest. Other impressions: We went at 1030 am on a Thursday and the gym was full of older adults leaving a class and working out, but didn't see any younger adults there. Wasn't even offered a tour or anything while there.

If you want heavy weights, hardcore workouts, loud blaring music, lots of screaming and grunting,…read morePlanet Fitness is not the place for you. Nor does it necessarily want you. It doesn't cater to you. If you want simple cardio workouts with a lot of machines, some weights and strength training that doesn't get too heavy and a neat atmosphere, this is your place. It's cheap and caters to a more beginner's gym and mindset and that is the way it comes off in it's mission and purpose. It's "Judgement Free" zone slogan is hypocritical BS. With a 'lunk alarm' and a desire to have no 'lunks' that is totally judgemenetal and critical. So, that is a bit of hypocrisy. Hey, you might not want muscle bound, hardcore weight lifters and body builders, but if you you're going to want to be a 'judgement free' zone, you're going to need to not 'judge them.' Except for what seems to be a hypocritical farce of an attitude, for the most part, this gym delivers for newbies. It's $10/month with a simple commitment. $15/month if you want to be free from commitment and like $21/month for their plan that includes being able to workout at other Planet Fitnesses and use their massage chairs and what nots. I don't know, I go to the gym for cardio and to walk in place so when I get tired I just have to walk to my car when done. I know, right? I'm fat and lazy, but I'm slowly losing weight. This gym is good, if you're looking for these qualities. With the exception of their 'judgement free' zone, they do deliver on what they promise for the most part. They don't promise a lot though, so for the price, they're an ideal first gym or somewhere to go if you don't want to (or cannot) keep exercise machines in your home. The price is right in that regard. If you want a gym that caters to body building, have lots of classes to choose from, need a pool, there are better more expensive gyms around. But for what it offers and claims to offer, Planet Fitness is great and delivers.

I actually like the gym atmosphere but the district manager Amani, has some agenda to eliminate members and certain staff members. She has cancelled my membership twice now for incidences that are unfounded while ignoring my complaint that a underage female was in the men's locker room or that one of her employees hit the speed up buttons on the treadmill I was using. For reference I'm recovering from open heart and a spinal fusion surgeries that have made stability an issue at certain speeds of activity. The last incident a staff member asked why I was walking hunched over and looking in pain. I told her about the sciatic pain shooting down my legs and how excruciating it was. I did point out where the location was and that was my fault but you have to look at intent and circumstances of each situation. Even if there was wrong doing isn't there a warning or protocol steps like a talking to? To cancel my membership and ban me from all three Tri Cities locations seems excessive and punitive for a misunderstanding for a business built on no judgement. I've reached out to them a couple times to get a dialog going and no one from the company or HR has responded in any way.
