Placed a pickup order and was told to pickup in thirty minutes. I showed up after thirty minutes and there were another 6 people waiting. I ended up waiting an hour. Many others came and picked up even though they had phoned in after me. One lady left even though she had paid. We've been going there 10-15 years, 3-4 times a year, always on NYE. This is one of my go to spots for solo and working lunches! The lunch specials are so good and very reasonably priced. Dinner portions and prices are good as well. I've made it a point to try something different every time I go and I've not been disappointed. I love that the fried wanton crisps they give with their soup are crispy and so good! At a lot of similar restaurants these toppings are stale and not good. Here, I eat those by themselves dipped in a bit of hot mustard. Every small thing, you have to ask and they will bring. Zero initiative. 4. The concierge table has two -three ladies non-stop talking in a foreign language. It's okay to talk but let diners enjoy peace of mind. 5. My egg plant was $12.99 and they overcharged me. It's is so annoying for clients who want to have a quiet sit down dinner with family Once it went over my head, I called for manager and explained is when hopefully noise went down. It was a horrible experience. These people don't get it. No doubt if they could improve this would be top Resturants in McKinney. Food is delicious. Order elsewhere and never pay cash for your food. Always use a card. I had cash from Christmas gifts laying around and made the mistake of paying the delivery driver cash. He left, with the $80 something I was told on the phone +an 18% tip. There was an order missing, and no receipt stapled to the bag like there usually is. There was an order missing. I called the restaurant, let them know an order was missing and I would come to the restaurant and pick it up. All I can say is the good reviews on here must be very, very old. So I know I've said everything from "I'll never be back" to preaching about the pitfalls of hot and sour soup here, but smack my butt and call me Judas because I'm betraying my words now. I had chicken set out for tonight. I had big plans for that bird. Oldest daughter threw a curve ball though when she came home and needed arts & crafts TODAY for an assignment. Really? You don't say anything until the last minute? Got to love kids. Or just be too tired to yell. So...after craft shopping the kids were hungry. So was the man-child and I've stated he LOVES this joint. Kids just wanted food, I was tired so he naturally won. My kids are freaking money suckers. The youngest is a pescatarian which just means she will find the most expensive thing on the menu and kids menus be damned! At 8 she typically costs more than the man to take to dinner, which is why I typically avoid it. There's no place around (except fast food LJS) that has grilled fish/shrimp on a kids menu. But wait....they do! That's right! On the kids menu they have "Hawaiian shrimp" which you guys know is that delicious fried shrimp drowned in sauce. The 8 year old likes GRILLED seafood (get a job) and was trying to decide on something else. The sweet lady who asked her what she wanted quickly replied "we can make just grilled shrimp and substitute it at no charge." Wait...hold the phone...No charge? That's my jam! It even came with fried rice and let me tell you, three skewers of four to five medium shrimp came and that little one INHALED it. 5.95. It doesn't include a drink, but dang, she can have mine. The older one is far less picky, ordering sweet and sour chicken and fries. She's the "chicken nugget & fries" kid God bless her. Helps balance out the little one. I got twice cooked pork and fried rice. I'll say if you are used to hibachi fried rice, skip it here. It's not that great. The pork was very tasty. I'd have taken a pic but man-child abs I shared and he inhaled it before I could snap it. We also got a large egg drop soup that all 3 of them ate (3.95) with leftovers and I got a cup of hot and sour. The hot & sour was WAY better than before and was both hot and sour thank goodness. The waitress was PHENOMENAL. She was incredible at refilling drinks and clearing plates. While I doubt I'm taking them out again until one of them gets a job, this will be a go to place for us now. read more

This place has been decent over the years but in the last few years the food quality has degraded significantly, portions have grown smaller the egg drop soup is inedible and the chicken dishes use the worst quality chicken.. I'd rate the food at below average but they have continually raised prices to the point when you're paying for top quality Chinese food but getting Panda Express or less quality. I'd suggest not eating there for a while so they get the message read more

Stopped by to grab something to go and I was impressed. I got the beef and mushrooms to eat at work for later. I'm usually skeptical about ordering beef from a Chinese restaurant because most places tend to use low grade beef, but I was pleasantly surprised here. The beef was a higher grade beef and it was very tasty. I ate some and then saved the rest for later. The food was good left over a couple of days later, so it was definitely a win. They charge $6 for delivery. But they don't tell you they charge $6 for delivery unless you do the math yourself and ask them what the extra $6 is for. They do not give you an itemized receipt when they deliver. I asked the delivery guy what the $6 was for and he said he didn't know but he thought it was for delivery. I asked him if it was his tip and he said "No." I called Imperial Garden to ask them what the $6 was for and they said it goes to the driver. They said the fee depends on how far away you live and they listed off neighboring cities I don't live in.... I told them I live 1 mile away. read more

This had been a fairly solid, if not basic American-Chinese restaurant through the years, but customers should now beware of their shady billing practices. I ordered takeout on 07/10/22 and the bill was surprisingly $71.44. I have never had a bill that high at this restaurant so I checked for an itemized receipt when I got home, but there was none. Next, I carefully went through their online menu item by item and actually had only purchased precisely $60.00 of food. Add 8.25% tax and my purchase was actually $64.95. Where did their extra $6.49 charge come from? I immediately called the restaurant back hoping they would correct their error, but they would not. The first explanation they gave was that this was due to a CC fee. I have ordered many times from this establishment and have never been accessed a CC fee. Also, there is no disclosure of such a fee online or in the store itself. When I poo-poo'd (pun intended) that claim, they very, very quickly said that some menu items have gone up. The immediate (0.5s) timing of the second excuse is telling. I bet there was a third excuse too, but we never got to that. Their current, online menu said I purchased exactly $60 of food. They effectively robbed me of $6.49. I made my last Imperial Garden purchase on 07/10/22 & hope that you will consider my experience when choosing from the many decent American-Chinese restaurants in the McKinney, TX area. Update: I went through all of this horrible restaurant's YELP reviews and found an amazing number of one star reviews that included 3 that also mentioned being overcharged including one from 2019 where the person was given the same story as me regarding menu prices. I have lived in Mckinney since 1996. I've been going to Imperial Garden since it opened. It is a Chinese restaurant that is FAMILY run. I have never eaten inside the restaurant, always takeout or delivery, the lemon butter shrimp is fantastic, it is a staple in our house. We've had take out and delivery several times and each time our food is packaged well and tastes great. The delivery times are usually quicker than quoted on the phone and portion size is good with enough left for a second meal. My husband loves their chicken lettuce wraps and I love to spicy eggplant.
