Once again, Gary is your man when it comes to Motorcycle repair and modifications. He took my stock CRF300 Rally, and installed a Big Bore Kit, new Full Exhaust, upgraded air box, upgraded suspension, and it all works and looks perfect. Lastly his pricing is extremely reasonable. Stopped by Import Motorcycle Specialist today for my boyfriend's bike to add some accessories and make a few adjustments to the weight and height, and we had a great experience. They were knowledgeable, helpful, and clearly knew what they were doing. They took the time to understand what he wanted, explained everything well, and made sure the bike felt right before we left. It's always nice finding a shop that treats you with respect and doesn't make you feel rushed. The service felt honest and professional, and you can tell they care about their work. Have been riding my motorcycle to work lately to save some money on gas, and started to notice a sound that turned out to be my chain. For an adjustment I was quoted around a hundred dollars at the main dealership, so I remembered a recommendation I had recently gotten regarding Gary at Import motorcycle Specialist. So I gave him a call and was pleasantly surprised with how cool he was to talk to. His quote was exactly one fourth of the price that I was previously quoted. In September Gary completed a 24000 mile service on 2018 Honda Gold Wing DCT which included Valve adjustment, front/rear brakes and oil/transmission fluid and filters. I've had no problems since this service riding nearly every day, all work seemed to be completed with care. Gary was busy and it took a little bit of time to get in, but be patient and you'll be awarded with great service. read more

Carburetor cleaning and tuning by Gary: I've been running with the choke on for a while now and been shopping around for cost effective and reliable motorcycle mechanic and found The One in Santa Clarita! Since I was initially planning to DIY this project-I got the spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter on hand and bargained if He could also replace them as well since it's already accessible- not a problem! very straightforward and prompt. I forgot how a sport tuned bike sounds like! Now having a blast with my 17 year old ZZR 1200. Money well spent and highly recommended, and a Marine- thank you for your services. read more

Geez, I didn't realize it had been eleven years since I last wrote a review of Import Motorcycle Specialist and Gary Petit. The service is still outstanding and Gary's work ethic cannot be faulted. I drive from Bear Valley Springs near Tehachapi for Gary to work on my bikes. He always goes the extra mile. He recently recommissioned a limited edition Triumph of mine from the 90s which required him doing research and dealing with Triumph directly. The bike may just run better than it did when new. He keeps my modern bikes in fine condition. He's friendly, his prices are fair and he is extremely good at what he does. I can recommend him without reservation. read more

I had a small gas leak so I brought my Honda to get looked at. After a few hours they called and let me know the source of the problem and that the parts needed were ordered. Once the part arrived from honda, my bike was fixed within the same day and I have to say it is running great. He even made my kickstand easier to put down. Highly recommend this business, will be using for my regular maintenance. Thanks again read more

Brought my newest bike (Yamaha Tracer 900 GT) to Gary for the first time. I had foolishly attempted to install my own new crash bars without professional supervision and ran into trouble. I brought the bike to Gary and he cheerfully showed me what I had done wrong, and how to fix it. I ended up having him install the crash bar, and do an oil change which was due anyway. The whole thing came out cheaper than just an oil change at other shops I've tried. My friend brought his KLR650 here with some rough-running problems. Gary took it in, found it was an issue with the carb diaphragm or something (I don't know anything about carbs), and got the bike out running again. Proof in the pudding, my buddy and I rode a 200-mile loop through Ojai, Oxnard, Malibu, and back to LA last weekend and everything was breezy. Thanks Gary!! read more

Thank you Gary for giving my BMW R9T it's first oil change. His service is very good and quick. He also adjusted my rear suspension to lower my bike a little so that I won't be on tip toe too much when stationary and accidentally dropping the bike. I surely saved a lot also than bringing it to an actual BMW service which were charging me double. read more

Known Gary since the Saugus Suzuki days. Found out he went off to open his own shop. (3 years later) very thankful I found Gary and his shop! Was hell dealing with any other shop! Been taking all my bikes there ever since! Best prices in town, excellent work and friendly! Gary has got me out of numerous jams. I text him like a crazed maniac needing him to fix my bike ASAP! Not once has Gary said I'm too busy for you or can't help me! Unlike most shops, the waiting weeks to get your bike in and once it does get in it takes forever...Gary gets you right in and out!!! Never will I take my bike anywhere else. Also if you have a problem and something does need to be ordered or Gary realizes how important it is to have your bike, he is a genius when it comes to MacGyvering something to get you safely on the road until that part does come in! read more

The great reviews are completely accurate. Just tried out this shop for the first time and Gary was awesome. I have an older BMW and asked Gary to go through the whole thing. Most shops would have come back with a long list, but Gary was very straightforward about what was needed, and what was not. In speaking with him, you can tell that he is a very honest person. I liked Gary (the owner and chief-mechanic) straight-away and he identified the new tires in my hands from 10 paces; Michelin Pilot Pures! Gary seems honest and no-nonsense to me and Gary is ex-Marines (with a specialty in VTOL aircraft repair). If he can work on Harriers, he's probably got a good bit of technical acumen and I am inclined to trust him with my GSX-R 750. Those Harriers are tough to fly, so they have to operate perfectly. Harrier mechanics have to be good! I value mechanics who have an attention to detail and also want to know that my mechanic is going to treat my bike as well as I would treat it...or even better. Gary keeps a clean shop and despite the slightly difficult-to-find shop location, he got the tires replaced in no time. The waiting-room was quite nice too, and Gary was friendly and conversational but always focused on the task at hand. I really appreciate his willingness to talk about his former Harrier mechanic job too (without giving away national secrets) as I found that quite fascinating. This was just my first visit, but it was also my way of sampling the service/work for next time. I will definitely be giving Gary more business in the future when it comes to working on my beloved Gixxer 750. I will tackle a lot with my bike, but there's a lot I can't/won't do and I am glad good mechanics like Gary are around. Finally, Gary's prices are very reasonable. That's a big deal too and it's noticed and appreciated. I'm thinking some improved-brakes for the bike next. :) Highly-recommended! --- UPDATE: Got some 90-degree valve stems installed by Gary. Fantastic job, but the most impressive bit is that he was able to pry-off a GoPro adhesive baseplate from the middle of my tach, after I busted skin on fingers trying to do it and failing. Gary came up with an ingenious method to pry it off and guess what, he busted skin on his finger too in the process. Ow. He's a trooper. 5 Stars! Dan read more
