Not what I remember as a child. I'm glad my kiddo had a good time but like... I'm pretty positive it was cooler when I was younger. I was pretty underwhelmed. Tons of broken stuff. I know it's a place for kids and kids are destructive but it didn't seem like there was an attempt to upkeep stuff. There was a new area being worked on though! And the gift shop / store had really inexpensive stuff. Like really cool products but for a good price. The thing I found I price matched on Amazon and their gift store was $4 cheaper. The one thing I'd like to point out the most though is that this is a place and build for CHILDREN, and there was a giant pride flag flying in the front of the building. I do not believe it's necessary in the slightest to show ones alliance or stance with a flag that represents sexuality. People can do what they want with their own lives and live and let live if no one hurts anyone. But displaying such a sign at a children science center is just not necessary. read more

Very spacious, and sort of minimal science museum. They seem to have a lot of different kinds of exhibits such as brushing teeth, grocery shopping building and some learning opportunities as well. Plenty of restrooms and hand sanitizing stations throughout. I don't know that I saw many staff members walking around, but felt that if I needed help, I could find someone easily. The space was very clean, and it seemed as if they took care of their exhibits. We came on a weekday so it wasn't too busy either. There is an elevator for accessible access. Plenty of parking as well. In the parking lot around the back if you can't find any in the front.we were here for about two hours, but could have stayed longer if we wanted to. read more

Probably one of the BEST kids museums we've ever been to. We were in Lansing for the week, and we decided to stop by before heading back to Detroit since we are members of Cranbrook Science and they share reciprocity with Impression 5. So glad we did! My kids had a blast and there is so much to do! My kids had a blast learning about energy, gravity, nature, etc and when my little one just wanted to play - the toddler area with the slides and water tables was great! So many great exhibits and everything is hands on. There is also a lunch area (bring your own lunch as they only have vending machines with snacks) and a nursing station for moms and family restrooms. You can totally spend an entire day here! The 3 hours I had allotted wasn't nearly enough, and we can't wait to visit again! read more

It was a great 2 hours of following there active boys, until my feet hurts., there were a few item they want working when w e are there, but when we mention to the front desk, they said it will be taken care of right away. Thst was nice. I just need a wheelchair, do I can just sit there and watch the boys play. They sure loved it. When it's warmer, we'll definitely do it again. read more

10stars is what I would rate this place, if it was an option. The WIDE variety of attractions, outstanding gift shop, cleanliness of all areas including the bathroom, and workers were excellent! I'd say the only down side is the small single elevator and the possibility of parking being an issue, but neither were a problem for us bc we went during the week while schools were in session for others. read more

Nov 2019...What a great attraction for young people we have here in Lansing. This interactive museum is much larger than you expect, with lots to do and see. We were amazed to find live music, lots of helpful staff, clean well maintained exhibits, party rooms and a fantastic gift shop. We are really impressed and highly reccomend this museum to locals and visitors who are looking to entertain young ones...age 5-15 ( my opinion) in a fun interactive environment. Love this place and we use to have a good experience until today. I was followed and stalked by a staff members in regards to my mask "not being safe enough" even with it over my mouth and nose the entire time. Creepy stalker vibes from the staff doesn't make me feel welcome. If this place lightens up and stops stalking members it would be more enjoyable. read more

We are visiting from Toledo and this place blew us out of the water. Our 3 1/2 year old loved it here. We ended up spending over 2 hours here and she didn't want to leave. Great way to use an old building and let the kids be kids and learn. read more

Fun for all age! Of course my 7 yo boys loved it but my 11 yo daughter also enjoyed it. My daughter was able to relate to some topics she learned from school in the MI nature center and tech area. The store has lots of fun stuff. As parents we were able to have fin and learn as few things along the way. Win for all of us! read more

Great children's museum with a sectioned off 0-4 room so they can play with out getting bothered with big kids. A new two story water play area. Bring extra clothes since they do get wet. My kids had a blast playing all over with the different areas. They have tables set up so you can enjoy your lunch you brought there. read more

So happy to have this in Lansing especially as a great place to take Grandchildren. I really like the activities for Toddlers. My only suggestion would be to have better instructions at the various activities for older kids, we skipped quite a few because we were unable to figure out what to do. read more

Pretty awesome destination! Two floors of hands on fun for kids, including giant teeth to clean, a grocery story with scanners, a water play area, two life size building areas, a rocket builder/launch pad area, a nature center, a laser/light exhibit and so much more! There's also a 4 and under play area with a playscape and water table that's phenomenal! I took my four year old kids and we spent three hours but still didn't get to everything! A couple of hints for you to consider: 1. Take an extra set of clothes- your kiddos will get wet! 2. Parking is limited so get there early or be prepared to walk 3. You can take your lunch in but seating is pretty limited 4. There is a store inside right by the admission desk that will catch your kiddos' eyes 5. We were in town for a tournament and decided to make a stop at the science center. The kids loved it. Every single part. The adults? There was plenty of places to sit and watch the kids and the exhibits were highly engaging and welcomed parent participation. The highlights in my opinion were the bubble exhibit, the optics, and the airplanes. Everyone left happy and it was a memorable experience. Would highly recommend!!! read more

Impression 5 Science Center - "Makers Place" - Museums Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

We love it at impressions5. The 0-4 room is our favorite part there. The water table is huge and filled with many different toys. They switch out some of the objects and toys in the room regularly so it's not always the same thing. Even outside of the little people room there is places for younger ones to check out. It makes for a nice affordable day trip since you can bring a packed lunch in. Also a nice bonus that they offer a reduced rate to those who bring in their EBT card. I love this place! I used to volunteer in high school and it was the greatest thing to see the little kids come through to play and learn at the same time! This is truly a Lansing institution. When I was a child, our class took a field trip here. It was great. The best part was the exhibit of a large open mouth whose teeth were about the size of my head. It was so huge that you could climb through it! Loved it. I haven't been back in a while but, I've heard great things about the changes that have been made. I hope it's still around when I have kids! read more

Caveat - it's been about two years since I've been there, and for all I know they might've done a lot with it since then. So, I'm 27 and I like to pop into this museum every now and again. But it does make me a little sad, because it had a lot more funding when I was a kid and thus all the exhibits were in working order, and they had a couple of great exhibits that are no longer even there. I don't want to discourage people from going there by any means, since it is still very educational and a good time and your kid won't notice many of the exhibits are broken, but this place is kind of symbolic of the economic and educational decline of Lansing. Side note: the Planet Walk on the Rivertrail is actually done by Impression 5. If you're up for a nice long walk on a sunny afternoon, it can be fun to take your kid on the trail from Mercury (behind the museum) to Pluto (all the way out in East Lansing). read more

This is a very fun museum for ages 10 and under. We didn't realize it was geared towards younger kids. Also thought we would get in for free with our reciprocal membership but ended up paying just under $20. If you have young kids this is great but don't expect the older ones to be too excited. Make sure to find the picnic table outside and the little sidewalk that leads up to it. Honestly this little magical corner was my favorite. I wish I would have gotten a picture. We took a lunch with us and I'm glad we did because there was no cafe. There is however a couple vending machines. read more

As a science and children's museum director from New York State, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit this place and talk with members of staff about all of the recent upgrades and planned activities. They've expanded their space downstairs to create a gallery dedicated to changing exhibits (currently featuring "Hot Wheels"...a great choice for this GM city!) and will soon be adding a new 2-story water exhibit. They've carefully kept the character of the old (refurbished) factory building to create some really great spaces for exploration. The "First Impressions" space is a must see for families with young children. It features a new multi-level climbing structure and water table. The rest of the museum is geared to kids ages 5-12. I'm a big ole kid, okay? I still wear t-shirts with cartoon characters on them, love me some Froot Loops and Looney Tunes, and have a blast when I go to Impression 5. I remember going a long time ago as a very young child and I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread (we got to make slime and silly putty) , and well, it is. The last time I went was a few years ago and I took the summer school class I was teaching on a field trip. Impression 5 is an interactive science museum and caters to the young and old, with all kinds of exhibits like "How does it feel to be blind", or the giant bubble room where you can blow big bubbles. It's a great way to kill off a couple of hours on a Saturday or to amaze your nieces and nephews with something cool and educational at the same time. Even my jaded high school students got a kick out of Impression 5. read more

Impression 5 is a wonderful place to take kids of all ages. Most of my experience is with the 2 and under crowd. This is a great place for parents with young kids to flock to provide your little ones with an awesome time! The 4 and under room has an amazing indoor play set with "fast slides," a smart board, puzzles, sensory table, infant area and water table!! If you are doing any of the water activities be sure to bring a change of clothing!! The rest of the museum is geared towards older kids, but we still love to visit the bubble area, large light peg wall, building areas and the visiting exhibits. The new water area on the main level is geared towards older kids, but mine enjoy watching and launching ping pong balls into the water. Being your lunch, as there is no food available and is a hike from local cuisine. Space for eating is limited, but your kids will probably be okay eating picnic style..! We participated in the Summer Sprouts Program and loved it! Super excited to see what Fall sessions have in store. If you need a gift for a child, check out the gift shop... it is full of some of the coolest, educational toys for kids of all ages! We love Impression 5! read more

They actively clean the toys and water shoes here. Kids water area great place for the little ones to play and cool off. It's air conditioned unlike the rest of the place on the day we went (May). Lots of hands on activities for kids of all ages, fun and science oriented stuff. Housed in an older building with old wooden floors in an area with other surrounding city venues and museums. My 2-1/2 y/o son really enjoyed himself (as evidenced by the screaming fit that takes place while departing) and I can see myself going back multiple times as he gets older. Probably during more cooler weather though once he's too old for the a/c'd kiddie part. read more

I thought this was one of the coolest places on earth when I was 6 or 7. A lot has stayed the same throughout time, and I'm glad they they are continuing to educate children in the area. I'm also glad to see that the giant mouth is still there. I've taken my little brother here several times, and he's really enjoyed it. Easily among the best ways to enjoy $5! Much like the scene in Step Brothers where Dale and Brennan make bunk beds, I was excited by being able to participate in "SO MANY ACTIVITIES!" This is what an interactive museum should be like! Impression 5 touches on many aspects of science from biology, to physics, to chemistry and engineering. I probably enjoyed it as much as my Little Brother, but thats only because I'm a career scientist. I feel they make the displays as educational as they are enjoyable to interact with. Who ever designed this place gets it! We have only been to one similar museum, the A2 one, odd since we live in metro Detroit...and we haven't been to the one IN DETROIT. I digress. This place has much of the same but some really cute things we had never seen before as well. The kids loved taking care of the oversized teeth with the giant toothbrush and other dental tools, bubble fun, light play, nature, music, and more! They also have staff doing experiments with the kids on site. It's probably most appropriate for ages 2-7. We had a great time and for twenty bucks for two adults and a kid, I'd say it was worth it, especially if you live near Lansing. read more

I grew up coming here. There are a lot if the same exhibits as when I was a child. I'm so old I remember going to the location off of Pennsylvania. Reasonable prices. Fun for the little kids and even adults. Not as large as similar museums in larger cities but great entertainment for a few hours. read more

So if you live in the Lansing area DO NOT allow your kids to attend Impression 5s day or week camps. My son took one of the day long camps. There was not enough adult supervisor and the adults that were there didn't care about the kids and weren't watching them. My son was getting bullied by another kid, managed to not knock his lights out and went and calmed himself down...when he asked to call his parents (more than once) he was dismissed. A couple hours later, a kid not being watched "slipped" and hit his head on concrete and it cracked open with blood going everywhere. All the kids were freaked out but my son hasn't seen anything like that before and was massively freaking out. They noticed he was crying and really upset but instead of I don't know CALLING HIS PARENTS, they took one of the staff and made them sit next to him the rest of the day. So when we picked him up, he was sitting in the corner by himself and looked like he had been crying all day. Thanks Impressions 5. And their version of trying to make it up to him is to apologize to him. Yeah that's gonna help. read more

A museum with entertainment for babies from birth to one year? Who knew? Please note, I ONLY went to the room for infants-4 year-olds. This museum has many other sections, and per the map they all look neat, but my little guys are barely walking, so we stayed in with the little ones. The room for infants to 4y.o. is great. No shoes allowed, so check your socks for holes before going, and bring a change of clothes because they have a water table to play at (they provide smocks & crocks to keep you & the little one(s) dry, but let's be real- spare clothes may make the trip home more comfy)! There's a big wooden play structure with 2 slides & a bunch of climbing sections. There is a corner with a bunch or soft mats with tunnels & funny shaped sections for kids to crawl along. A tiny house structure with a play kitchen complete with table, chairs & china/setup for a pizza meal, tea & cake! There a many wall mounted toys for kids to play with, and fun, interesting ideas we could implement at home for education & fun (like using salad tongs to search through cut & curled ribbons for alphabet letters) I wish I lived closer so we could go more often. It's not the biggest children's museum I've been to but it makes great use of its space. We love the members events. It's wonderful that they have an infant toddler room. I have taken my two boys, ages 6 and 7, here many times in the last few years and they always have a great time! The facility is very clean and welcoming to children of all ages, even us adults! They have done some remodeling and this only benefits the center. My boys favorite room is the bubble room! We have also been her for a couple of birthday parties and these are also a lot of fun. We took our 2 year old over the summer and she loved it. There's a lot to do and explore, definitely worth the price. The only down side is that during the summer it gets very hot in there, and there's only one room with AC. After exploring other areas of the center, we would take "breaks" in the little kids play area to cool off. Definitely a place better suited for the winter... if they have heat, that is. read more
