I contacted Saper back in December of 2025, to inquire about their framing process and to figure out a rough project timeline. I had several similar projects completed in the past in another state, but Saper was unknown to me then. Specifically, I had one large piece of film memorabilia which needed some minor restorative work, and three additional autographed photos which needed custom framing and matting. Four projects in total. I called first and spoke to Jennifer, who gave me some history about the business, which was established 47 years ago, and their philosophy as it pertains to preservation. Jennifer assured me that they use only archival-quality, non-destructive materials and processes to ensure the best possible results. Additionally, I wrote an e-mail and received a detailed, friendly response from Roy Saper almost immediately. I wasn't able to bring everything in until mid-January of 2026 because of some medical issues I'd been having, but once I was able to meet Jennifer in-person she was able to help me to make informed decisions about colors, framing materials, and types of glass. The price I was given was fair and reasonable, and I was told that the projects should take about six weeks to complete, because they were still backlogged after the holidays, which is understandable. I did have one minor thing about the size of the matting that needed to be changed a day later, so I wrote another e-mail and once again received a very prompt and professional acknowledgement. Then, sure enough, six weeks later, I received an email letting me know that the projects were completed! I had some concerns about physically transporting them, however, so I called in to ask about what types of packing materials I should bring. Roy answered, and kind soul that he is, he offered to personally deliver the completed projects, which I graciously accepted. He wrapped all four projects with such love and care, and brought them to my house that very evening. When I unwrapped them, I was delighted to find that everything looked amazing! Jennifer was the one who completed the restoration of the one larger item, and she did a fantastic job. Meanwhile, Nathalie was the one who crafted the three custom frames for my smaller 8x10 autographed photos, and likewise did a splendid job. Every detail was perfect, with an artisan's touch and a clear mind for historical preservation. I could not be any happier with the end results, and I will not only sing their praises forevermore, I will also continue to bring al of my future business there. Can't believe I had no idea this was here -- I've walked or driven by this corner a zillion times. Both an art gallery and a framing shop, it's pretty palatial and a joy to peruse. Beautifully lit and full of comfy spots to sit and enjoy the art works. They've even got a couple small Picasso statues, and lots of lovely glass art, many of which seemed very fairly priced to me. read more

I'll be upfront - I don't like most art museums/galleries. I honestly think a lot of artworks are overrated, but I was pleasantly surprised at Saper. I live around the block from this gallery and had never been. They have over 2000 works of art by 150+ artists - some modern, some not so modern. I went to a networking event here and took in the Picasso exhibit, which to be honest, was less interesting than some of the other artwork in the gallery. The owner is very knowledgeable about all pieces and puts together detailed storyboards for most works, which is great. Admission is free and it's a lovely place to visit on a Sunday afternoon. read more

OK, so my experience with Saper Galleries & Roy have thus far been beyond amazing. Saper is one of the only galleries that feature a good number of Eric Waugh art, particularly his earlier pieces. An intense internet search kept taking me back to Saper so I contacted Roy to inquire a piece "Victory" which was sold but I wanted to see if he might keep his eyes open for me should he come across on of them available or similar style. To my absolutely surprise he contacted the artist who AMAZINGLY offered up the artist proof which is the only piece of the "Victory" he had. Roy contacted me with the news which I am still blown away by. I live in Washington DC and I will tell you no gallery (and there are very few left in business) would go to the extent Roy did - and this was a birthday gift to myself, the best ever. There is another review here regarding Roy's integrity and while I don't personally know him, I'm impressed so far and would like to inform this person that no art is ever guaranteed to hold any value, one purchases art for sheer enjoyment and not to add to one's 401K portfolio. Sadly I know this from experience, I purchased a Roya and a Pino back when I had more money than brains. Now 30 years later, my tastes have changed and I no longer have a McMansion to hold an extensive art collection so thinking they were "investment" pieces I have attempted to sell them and been offered almost nothing for them because art is not an investment unless you a purchasing an original piece from one of the greats (we all know who they are). You likely won't see lithographs auctioned at Christie's, sorry for the bad news. And even more tragic is that the younger generations are not collecting art so if there is no demand, there is no value other than your appreciation and the way it makes you feel when you see it. Additionally, museum glass is not a silver bullet for art losing some of it's quality. Every element of a house from the temperature of the heat to exposure to sun and many other elements will always cause some level of breakdown on the art. I think blaming Saper Galleries and calling them unethical is misplaced and unfortunate. For me, I'm super impressed with the knowledge, professionalism and customer service that I will recommend their services to anyone. Roy was even ethical enough to recommend that I have the piece framed locally to save higher shipping charges and potential damage to the piece during shipping, now please would someone who did not care about their customers or their business do this, no. read more

I have purchased many artworks from Saper over a period of at least 20 years. My experience has been that as long as you are buying art and having it framed at Saper Galleries, the owner Roy Saper is all smiles. However, if a problem arises with the artwork you have spent your hard earned money on, don't expect any help from Roy. I purchased several beautiful lithographs by Russell Chatham, and had them framed at Saper Galleries. The sales pitch was to hurry and buy one of the lithographs from a limited number released, because as the number remaining diminishes, the price of the same lithograph rises rapidly and dramatically. You can even go to Chatham's own web-site to see how expensive some of the earlier lithographs have become (as much as ten thousand dollars!). Plus, Roy assures you he will always take any artwork back at any time for a full refund as long as it hasn't been damaged. How can you lose - just hang it on your wall and enjoy the art with the knowledge it is increasing in value right before your eyes. Well, not quite. The Chatham lithographs he has sold for 20 year or more are unstable, meaning that certain colors (inks) fade upon exposure to ambient light in your home (even when framed with museum glass) so that other colors emerge and intensify. After a few years the color shifts are so extreme the lithograph becomes dominated by odd shades of blue and green and looks nothing like the lithograph you purchased. It also has no value. So those big values you saw on Chatham's website (which Roy uses to price the Chatham lithographs he sells and to show you how they increase in value) are meaningless. But, no problem - right? Roy promised he would always take back the artwork for a refund. Well try to get him to stand behind that promise. Roy will find reason after reason why the refund doesn't apply to your situation. But why should you need to rely on Roy's promise anyway. He sold you artwork that was unstable and should refund your money based simply on being an honest and fair person and businessman. Well, try to get a refund from him based on principles of honesty and fairness. I wasn't successful, and i bet you won't be either. So my message is buyer beware. In general, they do a good job of framing, and the framers are all nice and helpful. So use them for framing, but buy your artwork elsewhere. read more
