He spent about two seconds trying to pull the tooth out normally and then decided to use his jackhammer to break the tooth apart even though that's going to be hard to recovery for me. Top it off he was in so much of a hurry to get to the airport for whatever flight he was taking out that he forgot to call in the painkiller to my pharmacy prior to leaving. I have been using Dr. Gesek since I moved to Jacksonville 20 years ago and his technique is excellent. He doesn't always have the best bedside manner, but he can get a tooth out quicker than I've ever seen any other oral surgeon do it (and I worked in dentistry for over a decade. When you are in a lot of pain with a tooth, bedside manner really doesn't matter all that much.... You just want that tooth out as quickly as possible. The office staff and assistants at the Riverside office are great. The front off staff are all sweet and the assistants do have a great bedside manner. I've been to his office in Orange Park once and I won't return there because the front office staff and assistants are rather rude. So, go to the Riverside office! He then proceeded to blame me for doing something that was not on the referral form given to his office and stated that he cannot do the surgery to fix it either!!! Dr. Gesik is probably one of the worst oral surgeons I have ever seen. He is so rude, cold and unfriendly, and just makes you feel like you are bothering him with even being in his office. I had the worst experience ever at this office. I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment. After sitting an hour after my scheduled appointment I went to the window to ask if I should reschedule. Next the sweetest lady came out and convinced me to stay since I was there for a consultatio. 0 Star. I had a quick surgery done with Dr. Gesek in August of 2020 and it was a terrifying experience. It was painful and beyond scary, I cried the entire time. And to top it off he did the surgery so quickly and sloppily that I could not get a biopsy on my cyst and he also left part of the cyst in my face and it grew back! Which caused me to go through a year plus of wondering and figuring out that I had a new cyst and that led to a 2nd surgery with a new doctor who said the 2nd surgery was only because Dr. Gesek didn't get the entire cyst out the first time! While Dr.Gesek did a wonderful Job, (so Far) I have to say the communication of the workers are a bit negligent. Prior to actually having my wis teeth pulled there was a lot of lack of communication when It came to the practice. To be exact , my prior appt taking X rays they told me on the day of surgery that I'd be put to sleep, and that an Rx order would be sent to my requested pharmacy so that I would be a bit sedated/not in pain the day of surgery (they never specified what meds to be exact & I filled out all the details in the paperwork that exact day before Appt ). On the morning I had wisdom teeth pulled however, I wasn't put under but was given anesthesia & after my surgery had to wait 24hrs, YESS 24 HOURS in Pain and all for my prescription to be ready at another Pharmacy because my local pharmacy had the meds I needed on Back order . Got my wisdom teeth removed on June 11th as i was signing the papers it said i would be receiving both anesthesia and nitrous however after sitting in the chair for 45 minutes to an hour just waiting on the doctor half the numbing agents were already wearing off and the first thing he says is that "we aren't doing anesthesia". Didn't even ask me if i wanted it or not he just chose to do it to get me out faster, however because of this i felt basically everything even my teeth getting ripped out and when i was verbally telling him that i was in pain and could feel it he disregarded and started getting annoyed and more aggressive with how he was removing my teeth. In my opinion i should not have been shaking uncontrollably and crying from pain in the middle of the procedure. This was the most traumatic thing i've ever experienced in my life and i believe he should have his license revoked. Not only that they were aware that i had an hour drive back home and i received absolutely no pain medication whatsoever. Also, the fact that they went out and told my mom that i "did good" and was "perfectly fine" is crazy because why would yall lie abt the pain and trauma that yall forced me to go through. I walked in asking for a consult about getting wisdom teeth extracted. One of which was impacted. They were willing to work me in within a few hours. I turned down that offer, I came back the next week at a better time. During my consult Dr. Gesek and the staff were very kind, helpful, and patient when it came to my million and one questions. They helped me make a decision about anesthesia and all the questions I had about it. Soon all of my worries were gone. I am a fairly over weight woman and I was told I would not able to be put completely asleep. Instead I was told I can choose a "Twilight Sleep." It is when the body is suppressed and the mind is completely awake. You feel no feeling at all. You can talk to the doctor and know everything that is going on but at the same time you are completely relaxed. It was an amazing experience. The day of the surgery (April 14) I was brought to the room where it would all go down. The nurses asked if I had any more questions. And I did. They also confirmed a few things about my health that we went over during the consult. They immediately put the oxygen mask on my face and checked my blood pressure. Then, the doctor came in and started the IV medication that would initiate the Twilight Sleep. Maybe a minute later I felt the medicine taking effect and they began the surgery. I can remember everything about the surgery. At one point, Dr. Gesek did become under pressure a little because he could not see or get to my wisdom tooth, and he got a raised tone with the nurses but they readjusted and it was all okay again. The surgery took all of 15 minutes, I would assume. As soon as the surgery was over, I was immediately taken to the recovery room. I was there ALONE for about 30 minutes or so. I am already a type of person who can not stand to be alone so I was definitely upset. Although, nurses did come and check on me multiple times. When they said they were going to bring my ride into the room, I remember screaming "THANK GOD." lol. I was handed some prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medication and given a list of precautions. Then, escorted out the back door to my car by a lovely gentleman. The recovery was much easier than expected. To begin, I was called by the office later on that same surgery day and asked how I was doing which I thought was really the kindest thing ever! The first day was gravy. I was awake all day, by choice, until that night. I slept just fine with a little pain medication. The third day was probably the worst. By that time, I was at the peak of swelling, jaw stiffness, and pain level. The swelling went down, I would say completely by day 5 and the stiffness was gone by 95% the next day. I went in for my follow up appointment (April 21) and was told they would be giving me a syringe to take home so I could irrigate food out of the surgical sites. They looked inside and I have already completely healed with no way to even tell that I had teeth removed. So I was told I was good to go. I was just happy I could use a straw again. Haha. 10/10 would definitely recommend seeing Dr. Gesek for any tooth extraction. Make sure to follow ALL directions and take the medications EXACTLY as prescribed and everything should be a piece of cake. Lastly, sleep when you can. I was stubborn and didn't sleep much. So I got mad and left. Then they called and I blessed them and told them I would leave them I would leave them a bad review. After an hour and 3 phone calls to the office she goes home. 4 hours later on her way to work she stops to get her prescription. No record of it. The incompetent staff has called it in to duval station. The other side of town. After being told in the office and 3 more phone calls St. Johns Bluff and Beach. Since its pain medication it can't be transferred. So now my wife is late to work and is in pain and driving 45 minutes out of her way. **Update** Today is day 7 business days since I have sent over my paperwork to be filled out by Dr.Gesek. I follow up with them 1st thing this morning and spoke with Joy at 8:43am, she stated that Brittany the office manager wasn't in today to have the form filled out I was told that I was going to receive a call back and my forms filled out by Brittany on Friday NEVER received it. Originally I was told by Julian that it will be completed in the next 3-5 days apparently as of Thursday the 16th Julian no longer is with the company but it's well over that. Call back spoke with Joy this morning and I again explained myself for the 15th time what I needed for my employer. She had the audacity to say well your talking to me now. 1st and foremost what other way am I to communicate with your company besides the phone. 2nd are you the doctor that is treating me or a receptionist? 3rd the doctor exact words to me in our last appointment was it will take 3 weeks for you to eat and talk normally again. The career field I'm in requires me to talk very exclusively which at the moment I am unable to do. My mouth still hurts and a portion is still swollen. I was truly appalled by her comment when I have been tirelessly have been told this will get done and it hasn't. She then goes on to say let me talk with the doctor and I will call you back. I said I have been told that over 4 times now and never received one. Am I really going to get a call back? She then proceeds to catch an attitude and starts heavy breathing like I'm bothering her and says yes I will be calling you back and if you do not answer will leave a voice mail. I even informed her I need this information by today. Side note everytime I have been calling and been speaking with Joy since Thursday she has an attitude and soon as I say who I am she said to hold on. Proceed to place me on hold before I can finish what I am saying.Then 12:31pm comes it's been a few hours since I spoke with Joy and no call back I then speak with Ashley and requested to schedule an appointment to come and speak with Dr. Gesek she ask what for. I explained again she then says hold on then says he is on lunch, I left him a voice mail to ask what he would like for me to do. I will give you a call back as soon as a get a response. Again I tell her I keep being told that and NEVER receive one back. Can I please received an ETA for this call back? She said a few moments when he comes back from lunch. It's gotten so bad till the point was going to get my orthodontist involved who referred me to them. I explained to him what going on and even ask him is it possible for him for him to help. He stated to go to the office and demand the manager (who was not there today), so he stated the assistance manager, and if you can't get the person then request to speak directly to Dr. Gesek and be very stern and professional about it and call them on my way to advised them I was coming. He stated that if you don't get this handle by 4pm call back on the emergency hotline and I will contact him myself (they know each other personally & have been in contact about my treatment). I did that of course and spoke with Joy again at 2:43pm to ask to speak with the assistant office manager her response is they don't have one. So I demanded to speak with Dr. Gesek again she places me on hold and then I get the automatic message that noone was available to take my call. I then went to the office requested to speak with Dr. Gesek directly for the 10th time and I explained it's for theses forms I need filed out for my employer. She told me to go to my car and I will receive the call when he is available because he is seeing patients, okay. I received a call back from Lesile still trying to tell me the same BS that me and the doctor didn't discuss. I requested again I want to speak with Dr. Gesek. He finally gets on the line and recap our last conversation with him he goes on to say that he never said I wouldn't be able to talk normal again for the next 3 weeks, just that you won't be able to eat and open your mouth normally again for the next 3 weeks I would of never said that in my life. I said sir I wouldn't of repeated the information back to you if you didn't say it. He goes on to say well no employer is going to give you 3 weeks off for a wisdom tooth extraction. I had to recap with him letting him know it was more than my wisdom teeth removed although he the one who did the surgery on top of that my mouth still hurts in addition to numbness and swelling. 2nd you are not my employer you can't tell me what benefits they offer when I received instructions from them directly on what I needed you to fill out and have sent over. On my first visit Dr. Gesek was extremely rude. He cut me off when I tried to tell him I was only having two teeth extracted. He stated will you just let me talk! I should have known better then to not let him work on my mouth. But foolishly I did. Since, I have had nothing but complications constantly and I even brought in pictures to show Dr. Gesek an inflamed red bump near my gum where he extracted my lower wisdom tooth and he dismissed my concern saying it was nothing and was normal to look that way. I truly was in disbelief after he stated this. I am concerned that Dr. Gesek's pride is affecting his view of reality. Now, after an infection, abscess, a month of constant pain and 4 post op visits I am now securing a different oral surgeon to figure out why I am still in pain 30 days after Dr. Gesek removed to wisdom teeth. I made this decision after Dr. Gesek said the only resolution would be to do more surgery on my mouth to see if there is "something else" in there. he must be crazier than he looks! To top it all off, Dr. Gesek's office billed my insurance twice for my procedure and over charge my insurance for one of my extractions which was normal, stating it was impacted and partially bony when it was not. I was referred to this practice to have a molar removed. They worked me in the same day. I soon met Dr. Gesek who was more interested in making fun of my primary dentist's name than talking about the tooth he was about to remove. He injected me with novocaine and after a wait started the procedure. My tooth was not numb! Dr. Gesek seemed to think I was just anxious but I was, in fact, in severe pain. After a process of pulling and more shots then pulling then more shots the tooth was finally out. At that time he informed me the next time he worked on me he would sedate me. What? HORRIBLE experience. This man began to extract my tooth when i was telling him it was not numb. He then told me to stop being a child and stop screaming that he wasn't having that in his office. Stay away! I went in for an infection and when I got there their old and outdated equipment wasn't even working and couldn't take an x-ray. They sent me home with no prescription or anything. I had to go straight over to my general dentist to get antibiotics until I could be seen by a real oral surgeon with equipment from this millennium.
