And honestly, Sequim does this switch better than almost anywhere. One minute you're side-eyeing bison that look like they've seen too much civilization, and the next you're wandering a certified organic lavender farm tucked into the rain shadow of the Olympics, where the sky feels like it's been turned up to "HD saturation." Jardin du Soleil especially leans into that pastoral reset button: rows of purple stretching out under that big Olympic Peninsula light, goats and chickens doing their indifferent farm philosopher thing, and then the full dessert arc--lavender lemonade into lavender ice cream like the place is committed to you leaving slightly fragrant and emotionally recalibrated. It's also one of those rare "free 99" experiences where the admission price is basically just your willingness to slow your internal clock for a while. The real currency there is sun exposure, quiet footsteps through the rows, and the faint hum of bees working overtime. Sequim in general feels like it's built on contrasts like this--wild edge of the Olympic Peninsula on one side, and then suddenly you're in this cultivated, almost Provençal pocket where everything is trying very hard (and successfully) to be calm. You were free to wander around the farm, partake in the U Pick Lavender option, nibble a few lavender poundcake samples at the tent, quench your thirst with some drinks, patronize the store with a ton of lavender stuff (I bought lip balm, poundcake mix, sugar, BBQ rub spices, chocolates,soap and room spray). The best part, however, according to the kid, was the duckpond in the back. The shop owner was super friendly when my son inquired as to why this place was called the "Duckpond" as he soon found out why - a turtle (forgot the name) and some ducks all share the vast huge back yard as one big happy fauna family. My son was lucky enough to be able to feed the ducks with some feed that was available for the Lavender Fest visitors. Everyone was super friendly and the grounds were very pretty. This was our first stop outside of Port Angeles en route to the heart of Sequim and we decided to give Martha Lane a try. We are so glad we made the trek to this delightful farm just a few miles from Port Angeles. Martha Lane sits off the main highway on a dusty road and there were a few tight spots where one car would have to back up a bit to yield to the other but once you got down the dusty lane, it was a treat to feast the eyes upon a large grass lot (which we parked). We did not have to pay for parking or admission as this was part of Lavender Fest 2015 so we lucked out. We sampled the lavender cookies, the lavender lemonade and the lavender ice cream - all were fabulous, to me anyway (the kid did not like lavender-flavored anything) and it was all served out of the lavender shed on the premises. We took a few photos in the lavender fields and wished we could patronize the cut flowers to take home but we were only traveling through and doubted that Hawaii agriculture would allow us to haul back fresh flowers from Washington. The lavender shoppe was a quaint little house filled with treasures of lavender art, trinkets, perfumes, lip balms, candies, sugars, home decor and everything pretty! I am planning on returning to Sequim for another round of Lavender goodness, and when I do, Martha Lane will be on the list again!

The were two flavors when we were here: lemon custard and white chocolate. The lemon is the obvious winner though the taste of lavender was super subtle as opposed to the white chocolate. There wasn't much happening in the lavender fields during our visit, but we enjoyed browsing the gift shop. We picked up some chocolate lavender ice cream, lavender shortbread cookies, and a jar of lavender goat milk cream. It was quiet--we were the only customers on this Wednesday afternoon, a stark contrast to the next lavender farm we visited, which was much more crowded. Leashed dogs welcomed!

We didn't venture out to the farm, but still saw various kinds of lavender in pots near the store. There's a very small parking area, probably only 3-4 vehicles would fit. The farm is only open during the summer to the public. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5 is because of the prices in the store. They wanted $10 for an average size spice bottle that had lavender, black pepper, etc. The sales clerk seemed to be bored out of her mind, clicking pens over and over and heaving big sighs bent over the counter.
