Sure I can find similar places closer to home (Bridgeport), but I will head all the way north to visit this tiny shop. I have yet to try the wine bar they have opened- but it's on my list! I often come here for myself and for gifts for friends. The two tables of wine $12 or less is my usual stop. so terribly disappointed! came with a friend for an evening of appetizers and drinks (which is... well, what they specialize in). we waited no less than 40 minutes to have our order taken and another 20 minutes to be served bottled beer. bottled beer. 20 minutes. after not seeing the waiter for another hour, we left without another drink. it did not help that the charcuterie portions were infinitesimal and the prosciutto tasted very close to the smell of a high school biology lab. in fine spirits' saving grace was, of course, the spirits. its too bad we had to wait a week to drink them. read more

What the hell is up with wine shops?! This is my second scathing review of a wine shop that I've written on Yelp! I decided to go here because it's in my 'hood and I'm a wine freak, but I was so upset that I left in a heartbeat. I walked into the store, and again, like many of my other reviews, no one greeted me. The store wasn't crowded, the people were just rude! I was there a good ten minutes and no one even acknowledged that I existed. I waited around to see who'd say something, but no one did. Out the corner of my eye, I looked to see if anyone saw me, and yes, they definitely saw me, they just didn't say anything. They were even offering a blind tasting and offered some other guy to do it! When I looked at the guy handling the blind tasting, he then asked me if I wanted to do it. I mean, how do people get customer service and retail jobs if they suck at working in the customer service/retail industry! It boggles my mind all the time. How the hell are any businesses getting any...business?! I hope In Fine Spirits changes its tune quickly. What I saw today really isn't working for me. And it's too bad since they have a great selection of shit! I mean, awesome wines there! But I wouldn't dare buy from there since they were so crappy to me. The wine, food, service, and atmosphere are all superb. The vibe is sophistication-without-attitude. The wine flights are first-rate and thoughtful: you can actually learn something about wine by trying one (on a recent visit, I tried a Loire Valley flight--excellent). Their by-the-glass selection is amazing. The food is tasty and well-presented. As far service goes, there may be a less-than-stellar server here or there, but the bartenders and hosts more than make up for it. I recommend it highly. read more

Not bad, nice, friendly bar staff. My drink of choice is anything with a louche - pastis, raki, absinthe, etc. So I saw they had absinthe fountain service, and I knew this was a place I wanted to try. I thought they may also have pastis, and they did, and it was an excellent French pastis. However, I believe they only had one, and I found it odd there was no Pernod or Richard in sight (I could be wrong, I didn't ask and I was very happy to try a new pastis). This place is good and all, but I have yet to find a place in the US that really knows what things like pastis and absinthe are all about - they only had 2 different absinthe's and one of them was not a real absinthe (absinthe is the most misunderstood beverage in the history of the universe) - and when the bartender poured me a pastis, he just poured it neat in a glass, which I suppose is ok (I've had it served completely incorrectly at other Chicago establishments), but they should of given me a small pitcher of water on the side - the whole point of any drink like this is the louche, and the drinker pours the water to taste. The Sirene absinthe that they did have was decent, but not great, very pine-y. But that's not their fault - the actual fountain service was fun - although I don't need the sugar and the spoon, just the dripping water, however it was reasonable priced, but unless they increase their selection of absinthes I see no reason to do this again. This place does have many fine looking whiskeys and I will be back to try some out for sure. I went on a thursday afterwork time and it seemed like a great time to go, not crowded at all and attentive staff. read more

I am glad I have this great wine store near where I live. It makes for an easy and fun stop on my way home from work, or when I am out running errands, to grab great wine. It's seems like their philosophy is affordable, tasty wine with no pretense. I dislike Lush for this reason - they look way down their noses at any stupid wine consumer that comes in their store. But not In Fine Spirits. Just good wines that are very accessible. read more

We probably spend way too much money here. I love the selection of inexpensive reds and whites all under $12. Michael's descriptions of the wines are always right on. You can ask questions and know that they will help you pick the right wine without steering you toward the most expensive one. read more

"In Fine Spirits" is an excellent example of the importance of supporting local, small businesses. Besides an interesting , varied, and reasonably priced selection of French, Italian, Spanish, South African, South American, and California wines, the staff does an exemplary job of steering customers towards choosing wines meeting both their palates and pocketbooks.
