Walking around Manly one evening we noticed one place that seemed really packed compared to everything around. That place was In Situ, we took the crowd as a vote of confidence and decided to have dinner there the next night. We were not disappointed! The place is adorable, with lots of plants and a very upscale boho vibe. We were eating early, around 5 pm and many of the tables were already reserved so I would recommend calling in advance for a reservation. They have a generous happy hour from 4-7pm which had $10 cocktails, discounted beer, discounted appetizers, and half off pizzas. The lychee Martini was fantastic and the goat cheese pizza was the best pizza we have had in Australia by a long shot! It was sweet and rich and had a great mix of flavors. I would love to go back to try more items on the menu. read more

First time visit for a friends birthday on the weekend. $10 cocktails from 4-7pm and there is four to choose from! My favourite was the apple crumble and one similar to a lychee martini! A few food options are also half price during this happy hour period! We got to try the margarita and the double brie pizza! Both tasty with lots of toppings. Bar was busy when we first arrived but staff were churning out those cocktails like no tomorrow! Space is a bit small at the front which kinda added to the vibe. Good breakfast, good lunch, good dinner, good coffee, good cocktails, good tapas, good atmosphere. The big breakfast is certainly big, I struggled to eat it. The coffee is pretty decent and the service is acceptable. My favourite cocktails are the lychee martini, expresso martini and Edie Segwick (amazing). The bartenders look happy and are a whiz with cocktails (except one who makes everything taste like lemon). They are all males too, and typically nice to look at ;) This place has a good vibe and nice lighting, it is very versatile and good for all times of the day. The owners are young and have definitely tapped into a niche in Manly...this place has been going strong for a few years now. At night it can be a bit crowded and a bit noisy (especially if live music is on). I'm happier if I can get a seat but it isn't always possible. My main dislike is having to use the DISGUSTING toilets out the back that are shared between 4 or 5 businesses. And also the fact they changed their arancini balls so they aren't vegetarian anymore (major disappointment). This is good for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday eve. You feel like you are in a happening kind of place. I'm always sorry at closing time (when the clock strikes midnight). read more

A quaint, lil' side cafe away from the hubbub of Manly. It had started to rain so folks sought shelter inside. Finally, a cafe with a lovely outdoor spot had plenty of elbow room... that is until the clouds parted. While we only stopped for french fries, they were fresh and hot. Quite simply the best thing about in situ is its versatility - I'm impressed by the number of ways the restaurant/bar/café can reinvent itself. Let's start on a lazy weekend morning. Opening at 9.30, in situ provides its customers with delicious breakfast options. As is often the case, the menu is so full of tempting things that I can't even begin to choose. I get Eggs Benedict and a cappacino and am incredibly satisfied with my choice, although the assortment of pastries and baked goods under the glass are also looking good. Our large group sits under the trees outside and enjoy accommodating service and yummy breakfasts - the ideal start to a weekend! Fast forward to a week day afternoon; getting a coffee with a friend, grabbing a late lunch, whatever you please - in situ turns it on again. The coffee is great tasting, the service friendly and the quietness of the restaurant amazing. I spend an afternoon in an armchair with my laptop and a coffee, and feel thoroughly rested for it. An incredible price for some amazing concoctions. The Jalepeno Capricosa is a must, a Brazilian specialty in this case prepared by the barman of Brazilian heritage. With a tapas style menu at the time we were visiting as a group, deciding to share a few items. The Schezuan spiced calamari with lime Aioli has us fighting for the lions share. Insitu also Gruyere Arancini which you cant go past ordering! We were also pretty keen on the seared prawns which were super fresh and tasty! For a larger share option the Pizzas are a popular option, and we can see why - super tasty, crispy base. With many tasty flavour combinations the choice was difficult, we opted for the roasted pumpkin pizza, sprinkled with quinoa, cream cheese and a bit of a kick from the jalapeños! We accompanied this with a goats cheese salad, with a honey and balsamic dressing topped with poached chicken. The ambience is awesome - it's has a fun vibe to it, a few musicians playing some tunes and cool bartenders making their work look fun. After reading an article referencing InSitu as one of the nicer places to get coffee in Manly, we decided to have our brunch here. Though the restaurant looks a little small from the outside, it actually is pretty big and accomodates a large crowd. They have indoor, outdoor seating and a bigger backyard with awnings and umbrellas. I really like the rustic and classy decor. After perusing the breakfast menu, my husband and I decided to split a Big Veggie Breakfast, and got a cappuccino and cold coffee. The breakfast comes with a couple bread slices, butter, sauteed mushrooms and spinach, brown beans and two eggs. Just so delicious. Love the brown beans especially, they were a tad sweet and real good. Just a healthy meal! My husband loved his cappuccino and I liked my cold coffee. While leaving the restaurant, I noticed that they have a 1/2 off pizzas and tapas later in the day. So, we came back to this restaurant again later in the day to get a Cajun chicken pizza. So damn good, especially with the half off price. I asked the waiter to recommend a good cocktail (more of a dessert cocktail) and he highly endorsed the Apple Crumble Martini. I don't like apples or apple flavor, nevertheless ordered it. And ended up LOVING it. I very highly recommend trying this restaurant when you visit Manly. read more

We heard rave reviews about this place but had a really disappointing experience on NYD. We just wanted to grab a quick brekkie/coffee and move to our plans, but the place was so busy it literally took us an hour and twenty minutes just to get two smashed avos, coffee and juice and pay/leave. I understand places get busy but it ruined our days plans/other bookings because we'd though it'd be 30min tops. And the food was not good and it was pricey. Also we ordered smashed avo without eggs but it still came with them. We still had to pay for them even though we didn't want them and left on plate. I imagine it's a nice spot on a quiet day but guys, don't sacrifice quality for quantity, if it's too busy, cut back on capacity/tables. Deffo one of the cooler spots in Manly, but the problem is all of Manly seems to know it. At least, they do whenever I go, because they all pack in like sardines. With that said, it's always hella fun. And way too cool for school, think pretty blondes with salt-bleached hair, dudes in topknots playing guitars, bartenders with scoop neck t-shirts so low and short they're basically pecs-out crop tops, passionfruit martinis with a free shot of champagne kicker, and everyone getting happily, pleasantly drunk. I come here for breakfast and lunch regularly. Grab a seat in the courtyard out the back. While I think it is a bit pricey I'm giving it 5 stars because I can't fault anything about it so it's worth it. Food is always consistently delicious and the coffee is among the best in Manly. My favorite spot in Sydney, hands down. Yes, it's trendy and full of beautiful young people, so if that's your scene, you'll feel at home here. For me, that's not my usual crowd (because I'm an ogre, hehe, just kidding), but I did enjoy the nights I came out to In Situ because the vibe matched what I was looking for on those nights. Service was always really great, but the food was even better, and that's because it's reeaaaally good. I can honestly recommend everything on the menu, because everything I had was exquisite, and together, they are even better! Popped into this cute bar randomly not knowing anything about it and after about two minutes I couldn't figure out why I'd never been before. Deceptively spacious with carefully chosen decor, and a bar which hosts a wide selection of nice drinkables, the atmosphere was perfect for a chilled impromptu dinner whilst also maintaining the right ambience for that 'special occasion' feeling. We shared a few tapas plates, and honestly I wanted to try everything on the menu. My previous experience with tapas consists of one meal of rubbery, overly salted garlic prawns drowning in a sludge of butter, and some garlic rice; Not worth a second try. I'm happy to say 'in situ' has changed my mind about tapas. We had: Zuchinni flowers lightly and crisply fried with a creamy goats cheese stuffing; Perfectly cooked Haloumi with succulent roasted grape tomatos; Juicy and delectable salt and pepper squid (void of that rubbery texture which so often accompanies this dish when overcooked) with aioli which provided a necessary balance to the heat of the seasoning; And my favourite, A creamy tuna and avocado cevice with a red mango garnish to cut through the smooth flavours of the avocado and tuna, to leave a sweet tang. A nice glass of sparkling made this meal complete, and the last great touch was the music. One man and a guitar, singing soulful and superbly crafted covers of a variety of songs. Four of us visited for a late breakfast on a Sunday. It was busy out in the courtyard but not overly so. Shown to our table and ordered and received our coffees quite quickly. We ordered our main meal, three exactly the same and one different. We received the meal that was different and one of the others meals but that was it. No more food for our table and no wait staff came anywhere near us or checked to see if everything was ok to actually allow us to tell them that we were still waiting. We finally let them know but they still took a fair while to come back to us and let us know that it was not coming and that they had just re-ordered it. As our companions had already finished eating and we were ready to go so we cancelled the remaining meals. They were apologetic and they did waive the bill for what we had received which was a nice gesture. My preference would have been to receive the meals and pay for them but not to be. These things happen and they were nice about it but in terms of enjoying a breakfast with friends, In Situ was a massive fail. As nice as they were, forgetting a table, not checking to see if everything was ok and then pretty much going MIA leaves me with no choice but the pan the service at In Situ. The food that we received was ok, a fairly standard breakfast, perhaps costing more than it was worth but there was nothing wrong with it at all, there is just better elsewhere in Manly. read more

Great little place. We are into delicious food and non touristy spots, while traveling the globe. This little restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. Filled with cute Australians meeting up after work. Great vibe! The spicy shrimp pizza was fabulous, almost as delicious as the homemade eggplant dip and prawn salad! The selection of beer offered is ample. The list of cocktails goes on and on. I tried something with kiwi and vodka and it was actually very tasty and refreshing. We visited on a Friday night and were seated next to the live music. This guitar playing singer was top notch! Loved his choice of music as well as the fact that he was playing and singing at the perfect volume to allow patrons to carry on their conversations. The outdoor dining looked very cool and fun! Went here with my beautiful wife last night. Has a nice vibe with the live music in the front bar area. The service staff seemed somewhat frazzled as they were understaffed by about 2 people. First world problem I know, but our wine bottle took 15-20 minutes to come (after a reminder - they'd simply forgot) which meant we had our dinner without the wine.
