I had been wanting to work with a personal trainer and came across The Factory Gym a few weeks ago…read more After realizing that it is located in my end of town that made me take the plunge as they are not only close to my house but offer personal training as well. I called and talked to the general manager, Tarek who was so very helpful, answered all my questions and encourage me to come in a take a tour of the gym. I had no idea that the gym has been there since 1984 about as long that we have lived in the south-end, across from the post office on Allmond Ave. The space is open with free weights, machines, a training area with all kinds of equipment to perform every exercise you could ever do. The staff are very friendly, plenty of parking right out side the door, men and women's locker rooms, a breakroom, healthy food options and a small kitchen. There are many bodybuilders who work out in the gym but everyone has been friendly and helpful if I have questions. Tarek hooked me up with Kayla, one of the trainers. You have to be a member of the gym to train there but they take Silver Sneakers so that is cool. I paid the gym directly for my training sessions and they cut you a deal if you pay for 8 sessions up front (one free). Kayla has been fantastic. As a body builder herself I feel confident in her workouts. She pushes me and I'm sore after our workouts but she is intent on preventing injury while building strength, mobility and balance. We had a couple of conversations prior to our first visit and she has tailored my sessions to work on my issues. I have finished 7 of my 8 sessions, going to the gym twice a week meeting with Kayla and what she wants me to focus on outside of our sessions together. She went out of town and sent me two workouts to do while she was gone. We will meet this week for our last session. I have been impressed with the facility, the staff and especially my trainer Kayla.

Whether you're a beginner or an advanced yogi (or somewhere in between), there are options here for you at this magical place in Beechmont. The introductory offer cannot be beat, and it quickly made me realize how awesome this place and the people are. Every single instructor is fantastic, and they can help you with modifications as you grow in your yoga practice. Need a break? Take one. I felt felt intimated in many yoga classes before, but not here. It is so welcoming. The space is spacious without being huge, and classes are never huge. I really cannot say enough about how much I love Supreme Peace. There are a variety of packages and price levels, and you can see the full schedule online. They also do a number of workshops and trainings. (If you've never done yoga before and want to start, they do a series for beginners.) There are some parking spots along with plenty of street parking. Supreme Peace is very community focused, and I am so thankful to have this amazing place in my community. If you're looking for yoga, you can't go wrong here!!

We didn't have a traditional yoga class set up. Instead we did a body love workshop. Our instructor was Jodie and she was very welcoming. There are cubbies and hooks at the back entrance for coats and shoes. In the next room there is seating and tea options should you want something to drink. There is also fresh water you can pour into a cup. The main room is pretty big and 16 of us fit comfortably in a circle. Jodie had us write down negative things we hear, heard or learned over the years that we needed to expel from our life. It was a total cleansing and many of the ladies shed tears as they realized they had things to dispel from their spirits. I plan to come back to check out the actual yoga class and will update the review on that. The room is comfortable, the pillows and rugs we used were good quality. I can see that there were blocks and mats available for use too.

When you pay your monthly fee, your money is going to a whole host of programs. For example... * This YMCA (Southwest) has preschool that is heavily subsidized. Let's be honest - who is likely putting their children in subsidized preschool? Probably single mothers. And it's one of the best preschools in the city. * The Southwest YMCA also has an adult daycare for individuals with special needs or stroke victims, etc. Also heavily subsidized. * The YMCA on 10th and Chestnut has a homeless shelter. Completely subsidized. * The Northeast YMCA does a lot with the blind and water safety. * Safe Place is a division of the YMCA, and it is 100% subsidized. Go read up on what Safe Place is. It'll blow your mind. I could go on, but you get my point. When you get a membership at ANY of Louisville's YMCAs in the city, your money is going to support the above. The Southwest YMCA, I mentioned what it has. As well, it is a gym. And it's a great gym. The Southwest YMCA has the following: * Indoor pool * Childcare so your kids can be entertained while you workout * A rock climbing wall for the kids * Tons of classes like Zumba, Yoga, and Spinning * Basketball court * Free weights * All your standard gym equipment The Southwest YMCA is pretty big. It's not huge, but it's big enough. It gets busy after work hours and just before work hours. If you're looking for *JUST* a gym, then the YMCA may not be for you (although it will serve that purpose). However, if you're looking for your money to go further than just paying for you to be able to use a gym, then sign up at the YMCA. It's a great charity, and I'm glad to pay a monthly membership.

Now they work on a contract bases so her initial contract was for 12 months (this was all at the beginning of the spring/summer). She sprain her ankle but of course kept paying no big deal. Fast forward to recently she was ready to go back but not do boot camps and train with Joe on a more personal level. Him trying to "look out" (I guess) was only supposed to charge $300 but over a period of 3 months (the new contract was 3 month contract not a year). And him and her discussed this face to face and he asked her what her budget was. Come time for the money to come out last month here comes out the whole $300. Of course we was both like wtf?? She hits him up like why is $300 coming out of my account? He (Joseph) totally gave her the run around. Said oh we had a miscommunication, it was $100/session or some bogus excuse. Now Joe why would I got from paying $50-60/month to $300/month. She's not an athlete, she's not training for a marathon or any other sport. MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE. He's like ok need to get in touch with Chris Vaughn, then he's like idk what's going on I wasn't there... blah blah blah. Then her and Joe finally have a sit down and he's like "imma be honest you're probably not gonna get your money back..." HUH? WHAT?? Mind you they hadn't even had a sessions yet... NOT ONE! They threaten to like sue Angel if she closes her bank account down this and that. Finally he says I talked to Chris I went to bat for you. This and that we can renegotiate and go back to boot camp prices which will be only $100/month. Just for 3 months. Of course basically saying we're not gonna let u totally off. WE'RE GONNA GET OUR MONEY. She signs it. Takes a picture. Fast forward to this past Monday they take ANOTHER $300 plus the $100. SO NOW OUT OF $700. STILL HAVENT HAD A SESSION! Long story short Joe and Chris communication is off! This place is for the birds. Might be good for athletes, but other than that, THATS IT!!! Aspirations Fitness Institution. Customer service is not good. Communication is not good. Kim (the help) SHES BEYOND RUDE! I don't even bash especially another black owned business but they totally acted like they didn't care about lost money. Or anything else for that matter. Except GETTING THEIR MONEY!! A total nightmare.
